Bold font is jarring--intentionally so. It was designed to jerk the passive eye towards its text saying: READ ME. REMEMBER ME. I AM ALL THAT MATTERS.
I'm pretty sure it's possible for you to tell a great story without the misuse of HTML tags and markup semantics. And in the end, shouldn't the challenge should be in the writing--not the reading?

GAH!(falls backwards out of chair) Cliffhanger! Dang it! I want more! That was an excellent beggining and I'm so beyond hungry for the next chapter. Update and update soon, I mean it. If you don't update within two weeks I'm not gonna update "Why Orange?" or any other fic of mine for a month AND I'll let everyone know why I didn't.

The only excuse I might possibly take is the death of a family member or friend, hospitalization, or the kind of writer's block where you can't write anything at all and you need medication to get over.
