Mistake

Disclaimer: Naruto belongs to Masashi Kishimoto. Or else, I would have had Sasuke and Naruto fight constantly. In bed. Naked.

Warnings: (onesided) M/M, Solo, Voy, Humiliation, more or less NC, an angsty weak Naruto and an uber-asshole Sasuke. General OOC-ness all around (but hey, that's fanfiction for you)

Summary: Cliche story of Naruto professing his love towards Sasuke who flat out rejects him in a really cruel way. Set when the boys are older. Let's say, Naruto managed to bring Mr Uchiha back. Probably a one-shot *sigh*

Annoying little Author's note: I really hate myself for having Sasuke reject Naruto like this cause this is by far my favourite couple from the anime. Hell I hate this piece all together... but when you're bored at university lectures or on a five-hour airplane flight.. well your mind kinda wanders. I apologise if it seems that I stole some lines/ideas from other fanfiction but that means I really must have liked them to begin with right? Be proud! Oh yeah, flames will be used to light my cigarettes since I keep losing my lighters.

‘Demon! Stay away from us! Haven’t you caused enough trouble already?!’

The troubled brain barely registered the pain racing up his forehands. Hit number 23. Hit number 24…30…hit hit hit. Keep on hitting. Never stop. It helped didn’t it? Each punch he delivered to the unfortunate tree bled his own internal pain away right? Naruto wasn’t sure anymore. But he was one sure about one thing; he had to confess his feelings before they consumed him whole. He knew he’d go mad if he didn’t. He was already on the brink of insanity anyway. And confessing… was the hardest part. He had predicted the outcome long ago.

You’re nothing but a failure. See, you can’t do anything right. Always messing things up.’

The boy paused his training for a moment, tilting one blond head towards his other teammate. Sasuke, sullen as always, was sitting cross legged on the forest ground. He was methodically examining one kunai, testing its sharpness against an outstretched finger. Naruto noted with some satisfaction that the Uchiha’s finger was cut. So the bastard wasn’t so perfect after all.

‘Always a failure. Always a hated demon. Number one loud mouthed failure. No one loves you. No one ever will.’

“Argh, I’m exhausted!” he exclaimed in his loud, obnoxious voice before flopping ungracefully on the ground next to Sasuke. He brought his fists up before his tanned face, examining the bleeding knuckles. The raven-haired boy barely spared his teammate a glance.

‘Figures’, Naruto mused to himself as his eyes swiveled up to the abused tree trunk he had been hitting previously. ‘I could be incapacitated, bleeding to death with my guts hanging out and he still wouldn’t care.’

He attempted to bring out a reaction again. “Oi, Sasuke bastard. You hungry?”

“No.”

“But we’ve been here for hours! Aren’t you even a little hungry?”

“No.”

A characteristic whine was added. “But think of all that waiting ramen! Ramen, Sasuke, beautiful tasty ramen!”

“Fuck off, Naruto.”

Despite the internal struggle within him concerning the other youth, the blond bristled with anger. “Don’t you tell me to fuck off, Uchiha! Fine if you don’t want to eat, then you can bloody well starve out here to death. I’m going! Jeeze, what the hell crawled up your ass today...”

There was no answer. Naruto placed one bloodied hand on the dried, cracked leaves below him and hoisted himself up. He wobbled slightly, his legs already aching from the earlier training. The boy took one stride forward, determined to walk dramatically out of the clearing. He entertained an amusing visual of a distraught Uchiha begging pathetically for a bowl of ramen but that vanished when he abruptly stopped in his tracks.

It wasn’t as if he was being attacked. Far from it, dead silence surrounded him like a stifling blanket on a too-hot day. But his body had stopped without consulting the mind. Despite all the silly ideas that had been running in his head, such as what a bastard Sasuke was and how he’d love to kick Sasuke’s ass to the next hidden village, there was one thought beneath it all that made his chest ache. He had fallen for the Uchiha. Hard. It was a revelation that grew from the time Sasuke had ‘died’ saving him from Haku’s deadly senbon and those feelings steadily bloomed, unwanted, in the back of his mind. He ignored it at first, denied the fact and put it down to adolescent confusion. Lately, those emotions surfaced with alarming clarity. It scared him.

Was it that odd? Everyone loved Sasuke. What difference did one more contestant made? But Naruto knew that all Sasuke’s fanclub cared about was the Uchiha name and the good looks that came with it. They didn’t understand Sasuke like he did. He was his rival for heaven’s sake! And dare he call it, friend. He knew the ravenhaired boy better than anyone else.

Or did he? Maybe it was his love obsessed thoughts clouding up his judgment.

Of course it did. Sasuke, Sasuke, Sasuke. Everywhere he turned, that accursed name would refuse to leave his ears and mind. Precious Sasuke. Last Uchiha heir. Sasuke of that tragic clan. Sasuke, the rookie genius. Sasuke. Sasuke. Sasuke. Sasuke bastard. Sasuke-kun. How he hated that name and how he loved it. He was so sick of that name.

“What’s wrong, dobe?”

Naruto could feel the smirk beneath those words. His shoulders tensed. His obsession continued to speak to his back.

“Why are you standing there like an idiot? Waiting for the sky to crash on your head?”

It was nothing but insults from the Uchiha. All he wanted was to hear one compliment, words of acknowledgement. He knew it would be a cold day in hell if his teammate ever uttered the words ‘I acknowledge you, Naruto. You are worthy of my respect’. The blond inwardly snorted. A very cold day in hell indeed when pigs would be declared airworthy and Jiraiya would willingly swear himself into a life of celibacy.

But enough was enough. He had to let his feelings out. And what better time than the present, especially when it was just the two of them alone in the forest? Without Sakura and her annoying squeals of ‘Sasuke-kun!’ and without Kakashi’s ever-watchful eye hidden behind the pages of his perverted book. He couldn’t let his feelings be bottled up inside him any longer. For a brief second, Naruto thought he could feel the demon fox laughing at him from the confines of its cage.

“Sasuke…” Naruto pivoted his body, facing the other in a stance of uncertainty. Sasuke just stared at him with his trademark blank expression. “I have something to tell you.”

Now two slender eyebows rose, furrowing the pale forehead slightly. “What is it?”

“I…I…” Blast, he was stammering like a stupid lovestruck fangirl. Slowly, he took a step forward towards the other boy. Damn was there no easier way to say this? The heavy weight in his chest was unbearable. “I l-like you.”

Sasuke continued to beat him down with his cool stare. “Excuse me?”

“It’s more than that!” The fox-child suddenly blurted out. “I think I love you.” The whisker-marked cheeks flushed and he let his head drop, as if in shame. “In that way.”

The tense silence between the two was so thick that one could have sliced through it with a knife. It stretched out for more than a minute, occasionally broken by a soft rustle of leaves. Inwardly Naruto berated himself for spilling out everything so soon.

“Naruto…”

Said boy lifted his face expectantly. He looked at Sasuke and waited with bated breath, searching the handsome face for signs of love, compassion, understanding or even rejection. But there were none. The stoic mask was still there. Then the lips moved.

“Naruto… what makes you think that you are worthy enough to love me? Or worse, worthy enough for me to love you?”

Naruto Uzumaki’s world crashed spectacularly around him.

“I’m sorry. I won’t mention it again.”

He turned away quickly, willing himself not to burst into tears right then and there. Oh, but his eyes stung so badly. He could feel his heart shatter into one million pieces, piercing what little hope he had harboured within him. He was expecting the rejection, he had braced himself but it still hurt. He wasn’t expecting the harsh words, really he wasn’t. Not even the Uchiha could be so cruel, right? No he wouldn’t cry, not in front of him. He would go home, throw that sunny, fake smile to counter the heated glares of the villagers and then cry in the safety of his empty apartment. And then he’d show up for tomorrow’s mission in his usual loud, orange-clad self, scold Kakashi-sensei’s lame excuse for being late and continue to flash everyone that sunny, annoying smile of his. Except, he knew, the emptiness in his blue eyes would be slightly more noticeable this time around. It wasn’t as if anyone would notice. No one cared.

And suddenly, Naruto felt his body spinning. He was so engrossed in his musings of self-pitying that he did not notice Sasuke grip his shoulder tightly, pushing the blond hard against a tree. Naruto gasped from the impact, surprised and stunned. He slumped down and before he could force any form of reaction, he was rendered immobile once again. Thin wires, gleaming in the light, wrapped themselves around his shoulders and pinning him helpless to the trunk. The boy looked up, eyes wide. Sasuke stood before him, the ends of the wires twisted around slender fingers.

“Sasuke…what…are you doing?”

“I wasn’t finished,” the prodigy stated. “I want to teach you a lesson.”

“A lesson?” Naruto asked, confusion written all over his face.

“Yes. On how wrong that little confession of yours was. How wrong it is for you to love me.”

The Uchiha was now looking down at him with an aloof look of contempt. His lips were again twisted in that smirk, only now it seemed more strained and more warped. Seeing this, Naruto desperately wished to escape his new predicament. He squirmed against the new bonds, but that only made the wires bite mercilessly through his clothing and into his soft flesh.

“Sasuke, what the hell are you doing? Let me go, damnit!” he yelled angrily, baring his teeth in frustration. The rough bark was rubbing uncomfortably against his back with his every move.

Sasuke continued to stare down at him, the wires still glistening in his fingers.

“You fucking asshole, I told you I won’t mention it again! You don’t understand…it was a mistake okay? Just pretend it never happened-”

“No, you don’t understand!” Sasuke’s face now loomed before his own. The smirk had now transformed into an ugly sneer. “What makes you think you can just confess such a thing to me, huh? What makes you think that YOU out of all people, has the right to love me?” His heated voice dropped to a whisper. “What makes you think that you can even begin to understand me?”

'Demon! Demon! We don’t want you here! Go away, monster!'

Naruto was dumbfounded. That ridiculous Sasuke fan club professed their love to his teammate every single day. What made this any different, anyway? Was his confession really that bad? He apologized didn’t he? The bastard had no right to say such hurtful words! God, how they stung. He clamped his mouth shut, pressing lips into a tight line and lowered his head, cheeks burning in shame.

“I’m sorry… I’m sorry…” came the small voice. Again his self pitying. The confidence he had built up flawlessly for so many years steadily crumbled away. The outside Naruto would scream, thrash and demand to be released immediately. But now he had been stripped away to reveal the Naruto within, carefully hidden by the bright orange garb and the loud self-proclamations of becoming the next Hokage. The real Naruto was just a self loathing, lonely child. He could hear it clearly now in his mind; Kyuubi was openly guffawing at him.

Slap!

The blond’s face reeled sideways, already smarting from the indignant blow.

“Shut up! That’s not enough!” This wasn’t the composed Sasuke he saw everyday. This frightening Sasuke now had fine tremors running through his lean body. Naruto realized that it was thinly disguised rage.

“What did I ever do to you,” the demon-carrier murmured sadly. A lone tear trickled down his cheek. “I tried so hard… but you never cared. You always act as if you hated me, you always called me names. You never bothered to get to know me. You always treated me as someone inferior, like trash… and I don’t know what I did wrong…” He choked down a sob.

“You’re weak,” Sasuke spat out with disgust as he stood, spine ramrod straight. “Do you think I have time for this? For weak emotions like…like love? Hope? Compassion? Get real, Uzumaki. Hate is what makes one stronger, not love. You’re stupid if you think that-”

He was interrupted by Naruto’s insistent yelling.

“I’m the one being stupid?! You’re lost, Sasuke. You’re losing yourself in hate. And you know what? It’s pointless! Pointless! Don’t you realize that it’s exactly what HE wants you to do? Can’t you see you’re walking straight down the road that HE wants you to walk? You’re blind! You deny yourself everything and when you kill Itachi, then what? Then what will you do?! Live happily ever after with the fucking guilt of...”

Naruto gasped when firm fingers gripped his chin, strong enough to bruise. His head was jerked upwards to face Sasuke’s fuming one. The other boy opened his mouth wide to throw another retort at the blond but in mid expression, he quickly smiled. It chilled Naruto straight to the bone.

“So you love me huh? Is that why you’ve been acting so odd lately? Oh you think I didn’t notice? A shinobi is always observant of his surroundings, you know. Tsk tsk Naruto.”

Despite the horrible situation, Naruto shivered. Sasuke was leaning forward, whispering those words in a low husky voice. He could feel the other’s breath fanning against his heated ear. Mocking him. The blond turned his head, almost burying his face in the inky-blackness of Sasuke’s hair. The musky sweat-tainted scent the other radiated was intoxicating. It was wrong, oh so wrong.

“If you love me, as you bravely declared before then you should know that my other goal is to continue my clan’s lineage. Don’t you think that would be impossible if I ever decided to hitch up with you? I mean I don’t think that brain-dead Sexy-no-Jutsu of yours can compensate with pregnancy as well.”

Sasuke laughed at that and the melodious sound reverberated straight into Naruto’s body, causing him to shiver again. As quickly as Sasuke laughed, he abruptly stopped and drew back while he regarded the blond quietly with an almost contemplative look.

“You like it,” he said flatly. “You like it when I’m close to you don’t you? You’re sick, Naruto.

The demon-vessel refused to meet the Uchiha’s accusing gaze. What did he expect? Of course he liked it. But Sasuke was right. His precious clan would be officially dead if he returned Naruto’s feelings. Even if Itachi finally decided to have a kid…which he seriously doubted because the thought of the elder Uchiha nursing a snotty-nosed brat was highly laughable, the child would be shunned as a true heir on account of who exactly his or her father was. Naruto did not notice the other youth securing the wires around an underlying bough.

“Look,” Naruto finally choked out. Those thrice-damned wires were becoming downright uncomfortable. “Let me go. You’ve proven your point.”

“But I’m not finished with you!” And then Sasuke positively purred out. “Dearest Naruto-chan.”

Regrettably, the sound made itself straight to Naruto’s crotch. He shifted his legs and stared up at the Uchiha who, despite the suggestive name-calling, calmly dissected him with his characteristic dead-fish look.

“Let me go. I get it now. I’m despicable and I’m not worthy to even breathe the same air as you. Let me go,” Naruto ground out slowly. He had already sacrificed his dignity by spewing out his emotions in the beginning; it didn’t matter if he lost some more in verbally agreeing with Sasuke’s words. Truth was, his teammate was starting to frighten him.

Sasuke made no reply but instead began to slowly unbutton his shorts. Naruto plainly gaped.

“W-What are you doing, Sasuke?!” Goddamnit, his voice was not that high-pitched.

At this, he was rewarded with an almost maddening grin. “What’s the matter, moron? Why the distress? Haven’t you always wanted to see it?”

He could clearly see it now. The shorts clung desperately onto the Uchiha’s narrow hips, half threatening to fall off. In fact, they slid slightly downwards, aided by the pull of gravity to reveal more of the boy’s pale skin. But that wasn’t where his eyes were glued to. It was the flaccid flesh that was held carefully between the other boy’s slender fingers.

“What…what the hell are you doing?!”

Again he repeated his question and this time he received no answer. Instead he just stared at Sasuke’s hand. Naruto watched in fascination as the other boy delivered short, almost business-like strokes to himself. And under his practiced ministrations, Sasuke’s manhood began to swell. It was a sight he had dreamt about, alone in his bed. He had dreamt of being the one to make Sasuke harden like that. Of course, the current situation was nothing like that. Still, the sheer eroticism of the sight was causing Naruto’s groin to ache dully. He didn’t need this, he didn’t want it to be like this!

“Oh? So you like watching me,” Sasuke said, eyeing the bulge straining against Naruto’s cloth-covered thigh.

At this, Naruto’s present blush reddened even more if possible and he snapped his knees together, turning his head to look at the ground at his side. He cursed himself not buying new clothes; the orange trousers were smaller and a tad more tighter than they had been several years back making his problem even more obvious.

“Idiot! Look at it… I said look at it!”

Sasuke had brought his body forward, half leaning forwards as he grasped Naruto’s blond locks with the other free hand, bringing his head up again. Naruto’s gaze was brought up again and this time fell upon the other’s full erection. It was closer, too close and he could see every vein that lined the shaft clearly. Somehow, the smooth-looking skin shimmered in the light and again those fingers moved as they gripped it, tighter this time. The action brought forth a drop of precum to the organ’s slit and then a lone finger swiped across it, moistening the head with it. Naruto inwardly marveled how beautiful it looked, much like its owner.

“Is this what you want, Naruto-chan? Hmm?”

Again, Sasuke slapped him, not with his hand but with his cock. Though it was nothing like an open palm slap to the face, the gesture itself was degrading. That was Sasuke’s aim of course, Naruto was sure of it. Another slap was performed, to the other cheek, leaving a slight trail of precum in its wake.

“So what did you have in mind, Naruto-chan?” Sasuke’s voice never faltered, remaining monotonous and steady as he stroked himself slowly, right in front of the other’s face. “Did you expect me to say ‘I love you’ back? Or at least say that I care about you? Hah! Don’t make me laugh.”

Was this Sasuke? Naruto had never really seen Sasuke like this. It was a horrible distortion of character and he certainly didn’t like it despite the uncomfortable throbbing of his own erection. The dark-eyed boy continued with his dead voice, as if reciting a mission scroll.

“What sort of disgusting thoughts do you have of me? Who’s the bitch in your fantasies? I hope it’s not me, because if anyone deserves to be on his knees it should be you. Though it’s not as if I’m going to give you the satisfaction of that, you fuck-up.”

“Love is not disgusting, dammit!” Naruto shot back miserably with a trembling voice. It was not disgusting, it was not weak, it was the strongest emotion one could ever hope to feel! Who cares if it was between boys, or between girls or whatever, it was still love. It was all about a person you would do anything for to make them happy.

Sasuke paused and his upper lip curled into a sneer that marred his attractive features. “Perhaps love isn’t disgusting… but the sort of love you feel for me is. Don’t you get it? It isn’t about whether we’re both guys, it’s all about you, Naruto. Yes you, with your stupid yellow hair, and those stupid moves you call ninja techniques. You’ll never catch up with me, loser. You’re absolutely nothing to me. Not a rival and god forbid friends. I hate you.”

Naruto’s eyes widened but said nothing. No words were necessary, his face was an open display of hurt.

'Nothing. Failure. You’ll never be anything. Failure.'

“Now where were we…ah yes…” Sasuke once more gave out his empty smile. The hold on Naruto's hair increased, eliciting a soft gasp. "Now, now don't look so glum. I'm making all your wildest fantasies come true." Again that silky voice, the words dripping off the poisonous tongue like bitter honey.

Sasuke's strokes increased and he was slightly panting now. He was not doing it for the sole purpose of lust, it was merely his body's mechanical response from the action of his hand. The youth's held organ was now rigid-hard, bobbing dangerously close to Naruto's flushed face. It was hard to tell whether Sasuke gained any perverse pleasure from seeing the other so miserable; his face was still as blank as ever.

The Kyuubi-vessel's mouth was shut, corners downturned in a stark contrast to the usual cheerful face he wore. He looked on at the sight before him in despair. It was true that Sasuke seemed to eternally resent Naruto for forcibly bringing him back from Orochimaru's clutches and sometimes, there were signs of unveiled jealousy whenever Naruto progressed further than him in terms of power. Maybe it was because Naruto, not Sasuke, attracted attention from Itachi, he didn't know. But Sasuke did not need to know the reason why. He didn't even ask, which was just as well. It would only serve for him to hate the blond more. What exactly had he hoped from confessing anyway? Did it not occur to him that it would shatter their already fragile relationship? It was so painfully obvious now.

"Stop... please, stop..." the blond whispered, feeling the ache in his chest overcoming the ache between his thighs.

"No... please Naruto-chan..." He was being mocked again. "Let me finish... but I am so close now..."

The Uchiha's pants fell harsher now. His head dipped forward, black bangs shadowing the pale face and his fingers tightened on the other's hair, signaling his ascent.

'I wonder who he is fantasising about...' Naruto thought bleakly, ignoring the pull of his hair. 'Sakura...? Ino....? Maybe even Neji...? Neji with his good looks and strong potential as a ninja, something I could never become...'

'Demon go away, demon go away, demon go away, we don't want you here, demon go away...'

The sing-song chant was now bombarding into the blond's head heedlessly. His fingers twitched, needing to clutch his head to drive the jeering voices away but the wires were still unrelenting. Sasuke opened his eyes wide, the black irises stained slightly red. His grunt was barely audible as he climaxed. Naruto reflexively closed his eyes, feeling the long stream of semen hit his cheeks. With a dark chuckle, Sasuke guided the head of his softening member to Naruto's mouth, wiping the last drops of cum onto the slightly chapped lips. He shivered slightly from the touch of his oversensitive flesh before tucking it back into his shorts. Then, he straightened himself to admire the handiwork before him.

'Demon go away, demon go away, I hate you, you're nothing to me, you're not even worth my time, go away GO AWAY!'

An ugly mantra consisting of childish songs kept pounding into Naruto's brain, splitting his eardrums and hurting his brain. Intermixed, was the fox demon's unbearably loud laughter. The horrible racket rose to a resounding crescendo, drilling to the very core of his being and then everything abruptly stopped, leaving only thick silence. The boy finally lifted his head to look at Sasuke with dull, glassy eyes. He was smiling sadly and the facial action was not sitting at all right.

"Thank you Sasuke, for teaching me that lesson," the boy said with a broken voice.

It was as if a puppet-master was controlling the youth's mouth with invisible strings, twisting it and molding it into a twisted mockery of a smile and holding it in place with hooks. Tear tracks were visible, still trickling down his whiskered cheeks to mingle with the sticky semen. A small pearly drop fell from the tip of his nose and splattered on the fluffy collar.

"Thank you Sasuke for putting this demon back in his place. Demons don't deserve to be loved, y'know?"

A slight flicker of confusion filtered through Sasuke's smug features and even he had the grace to look mildly disturbed at Naruto's odd reaction. His lips pursed as if he was trying to withhold some form of expression from taking over his face but that was quickly smashed away. Instead he swiftly untied the wires holding the blond captive. Hands blurred in a quick formation of teleportation seals and and all that was left was a puff of smoke from where he once stood. Naruto's eerie smile dropped, blankly staring at some fixed point into space to his left. He could not stop crying.
