Chapter 1
This Express Line Goes to Shit-hole
[Sasuke's POV]
Damn.
Damn. Damn. DAMN.
It was bad enough I had been plagued this morning with a surprise pop-quiz in AP calculus [which no doubtedly I passed] and early Christmas gifts from the mobs of girls that haunt my locker between classes. But I come home and find my room to be empty; cleaned out completely with a few scattered boxes here and there, mostly occupying the floor.
"What the...?"
I thrust the upper half of my body backwards out my door and yell down the hall shrilly, "Where the hell is all of my stuff?!"
I feel the rough texture of a hardback tap the top of my head. "Sasuke, language."
Smelling the waft of cigarette smoke, I scrunch my nose and glare at the man responsible for the unexpected attack. I'm met with a slightly irate Itachi, my brother, who had his face buried in a newspaper article and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth.
"Niisan, don't smoke in the house," I scold irritably.
He just grunts in my direction and slides past me down the hall. I follow him into the kitchen where my mother is packing away her best chinaware delicately, "Mom, what did you do with my things?" I was looking at her like she must've been insane to have packed my things within just eight hours.
"Oh, welcome home Sasuke-chan," she greets me merrily, setting down the bubble-wrapped plates and dusts her hands off. "I meant to tell you this morning, but you left early."
She's got this knowing smile, which can only mean she's very excited about the news she's readying to tell me. I shift my weight onto one leg and promptly place a hand on my hip, urging her to continue.
"Your father just put up a new site over in Konoha. That's where Itachi will finally begin to start working during his semester break until he's out of school."
"So?" I probe, not fully understanding what having a new location for the Uchiha Corporation and Itachi beginning business had to do with me coming home to an empty bedroom.
"So?" She looks at me as if I were absolutely THAT stupid not to understand. "So we're moving, you peanut head."
"WHAT?" I almost explode. Exploding like that would've been way out of character for me, but it was hard to hide my astonishment.
"Yup," she throws a slightly damp rag at me and I have to double up on my lack of reaction time to catch it before it hit me in the face. "Now go get out of your school clothes and help me finish up in here."
"Wait, hold on," I pause her cleaning with a quick raise of my hands. Itachi looks up at me amused and goes back to reading. I look back to my mother and say, "When did you plan on telling me about this?"
"Like I said, this morning, but you vanished before I could. Why you go so extremely early in the morning is absolutely beyond me."
"Sasuke goes to school early so he can escape the mobs of girls that wait for him every morning," Itachi smirks smoothly, fanning the newspaper and splaying it across the counter.
"ITACHI!" I yell embarrassedly, which earns a hearty laugh from my mother and I have to glare at them both for that reaction.
My mother loops one arm tightly around my neck and the other around Itachi's, "Aww, my boys are growing up so fast!"
I can't tell if this sucks or not. I really, really can't.
--
I kick the last box out of my room and down the hall before flopping on the bare bed that was to be left behind.
I had to say I wasn't too happy about leaving it behind either. There were many arguments throughout the day on whether we were going to take it, but the final judgment had been laid down and I couldn't take it. There were claims about not having enough room in the moving truck or something.
I flop backwards onto the squishy mattress tiredly and stare at my very blank ceiling.
I like this bed.
Before I can fall too deep into my muse, I can hear the voice of my mother yelling to me from the front of the house, "Sasuke-chan! Let's go, we gotta get outa here now!"
"Okay!" I call back loudly and grumble something incoherently under my breath and glare hard at my ceiling this time. I didn't want to move - and not so much move to a different town and house and school, but move quite literally, as in I didn't want to move from this spot I currently occupied.
"Sasuke-chan, c'mon!" I hear her yell again and I sigh, blowing up my bangs in frustration and give the ceiling one final glare before heaving my body off the bed.
I pick up the box that had been left stranded in the dark, bland hallway and move out. It was thrown in the trunk of our car and I comfortably settle next to Itachi in the other seat.
Giving our house one final look, I hear, "Sasuke-chan? Do you want to say good-bye to your friends at school?"
"No, mom, it's okay," I assure and wave her onward. I get a look from my dad in the front seat through the rear view mirror. I just nod to him and he revs out of the driveway noisily.
Itachi has his headsets on, blasting, and is lip-synching to me. I frown tightly and look away from him quickly, busying my eyes out the window.
Moron.
I've heard things about Konoha here and there at school. And then there's also something on the news about some new crime that's occurred, which doesn't give me a bright outlook on our transfer.
Actually, last I remember there was something on the news just last night about their crime rate going up seventy-five percent over the last year. Apparently there had been reports of several gang wars occurring throughout the last couple months and in my school there had been rumors of a school shooting over in Konoha.
I shudder at the thought of that being possible. My dad built a site in this town? He's insane.
There's a tap on the side of my arm and I dared not to look. And I wouldn't have had there been a succession of taps after about five minutes of ignoring him. I stare over at Itachi angrily who extends a hand to me beckoningly and curls the other towards his chest in a pleading sort of gesture, still singing silently to himself.
I sweatdrop and am about to turn away when he suddenly extends his arm further and quickly taps my cheek in a playful, slapping manner. I swat his hand away in mortification and give him my famous Uchiha-glare.
My parents are making small-talk in the front seat and I feel the need to ask as I push an annoying Itachi away, "Hey mom, what about Konohamaru?"
"He had football practice tonight, so we're going to swing by and pick him up by the school before we head out to our new house."
"Gotcha, gotcha," I nod and slap Itachi away for a final time. "STOP! Will you just stop it! God, you are so freaking annoying!"
"You wanted to say something else," Itachi sneers with a smirk, leaning back to his side of the car.
"I don't swear, Itachi."
Itachi laughs lightly, "You're a freakin' liar."
I just roll my eyes and glare out the window, slumping my hand into the side of my face as the car pulls to a quick stop. Our younger, adopted brother Konohamaru comes bounding up and swings the door open. He squeezes past me and settles between Itachi and me.
Good, maybe now the bastard'll leave me alone.
"How was practice, hun?" I hear mother ask him as I dig around for my mp4 player. Konohamaru begins a tirade of explanations, but I don't hear him as I plug the earphones in and crank the volume up.
Yes. Just the way I like it. Unable to hear a thing except for my music.
Casting my eyes back out the windows, I think on how this new chapter in my book was going to turn out. Couldn't make my life any worse, right?
I jump when an earphone is yanked out of my ear and I swivel to my right where Itachi is now grinning at me and Konohamaru is in hysterics.
"Oh my god, will you LEAVE ME ALONE!"
