Chapter 1 “While You Were Away”
Okay so I started writing this about a year and a half ago (you can tell how ODC I am about my work) looking back the first couple of chapeters aren't as good as I thought they were at the time but I tried to make some improvements. Sasuke may be a bit OOC for the first few chapters but I'm working to fix that ^^; This is a SasuSasu fic so if you have a problem with that then maybe you should try another fic. Please enjoy!

It was snowing and Sasuke had been training in the mountains after defeating Orochimaru. He had been searching for power in order to avenge his family. They had been brutally slain by his elder brother Itachi. He vowed he would never lose anyone important to him ever again. That’s why, after Itachi had come after his friend, he could no longer stay with them. But to everyone else it had appeared that he had left in order to seek out Orochimaru, but Orochimaru was now dead.
The wind was howling and Sasuke sat quietly in the snow. His peace was disturbed when, in the distance, he heard faint but shrill sound which he couldn’t quite place. Then it came to him.
‘Sakura?’ He thought. All the way out here? ‘No, it probably just the wind.’
A few hours later he was walking through a mountain pass when in the distance he saw the faint outline of a figure moving toward him. He would know that figure anywhere. It was Itachi. He put his hand on the hilt of his katana, ready to draw it at a moment’s notice. But Itachi walked by at a casual pace. When he approached he began to speak,
“I’m surprised,” he said mockingly. “After all this time. It seemed as if you two were so close.” He smirked and wiped something on his brother’s cheek. Sasuke barely felt the dibble of warm liquid slide down the side of his face. Sasuke just stood there in shock for a minute. Enraged he turned to chase after him, but his elder brother had disappeared. He then wiped his face and looked at his hand.
‘Blood? What the…?’
A few weeks later, Sasuke had decided to go back to Konoha. He was on his way back and was thinking about that what Itachi had said.

‘What the hell was that basterd talking about?’ He asked himself. Then he remembered the blood, ‘And why the fuck did he do that!?’
Sasuke entered the village. He saw a few people. A few stares were directed at him, but none of them dared say anything to the Uchiha, even if he had betrayed their village. The village itself had changed over the past few years. He left before they had finished rebuilding it from when Orochimaru had last attacked. They had even added the Godaime’s face to the side of the mountain.
He had walked into the forest they had trained in as gennin. After a while he came across a familiar pink haired kunoichi. He just stood there for a few seconds. Then he finally said,
“Sakura?”
Slowly, she turned around. They just looked at each other. She had matured since he had last seen her. No longer was she the awkward, clumsy, tomboyish little girl he used to know. No, her figure had filled out nicely and the rest of her face had caught up with the forehead she had always been so self-conscious about. Not that he had ever had a problem with her forehead in the first place. She still had the same familiar pink shirt that fit her curves perfectly, but her now white skirt flattered her newly acquired hips much better. Underneath of the skirt she had on a pair of tight black shorts.
They stood there in an awkward silence for a few minutes. Sakura was the first to break the silence.
“s…Sasuke-kun?” she whispered
Could it be? Was it really him? Yes it was. He was wearing his semi-traditional loose white kimono top that revealed his well toned chest and abs, and black hamaka pants.
At first she felt a huge sensation of joy and relief, but then she was overcome by a huge wave of grief and pain. She couldn’t look at him anymore. She started to feel sick. Slowly, she turned around. Her eyes began to well up with tears as she started to walk away. Sasuke was confused by this.
“Hey, wait up!” He shouted as he began to chase after her.
Sakura only walked faster. She couldn’t be with him. Not now, not anymore. Sasuke continued to chase after her until they were running down the hill. Only thinking about getting away from him, and not paying attention to where she was going, Sakura tripped on the root of a tree and fell. She quickly stood up and was about to start running again when Sasuke caught her by the wrist. She visibly flinched.
“Sakura wait…” he started but was cut off.
“DON’T TOUCH ME!!!!!” She screamed pulling her arm from his grasp and slapping him across the face. Sasuke stood there in shock. By the time he regained his senses, Sakura was gone. He was bewildered. That wasn’t the Sakura he used to know. Confused, he continued to walk toward the village. All the way wondering about what had just happened.
‘Why would Sakura react like that? Why would she run away?’ he mentally asked himself.
Then he remembered something. When he had grabbed her wrist she had flinched. He thought about it some more and vaguely recalled seeing the remnants of a scar on her wrist. Something was definitely wrong. Just what the hell happened since he left?
After a while he came across another familiar face. It was Naruto. He looked up at the approaching Sasuke, gritted his teeth and glared.
“So, you’re back,” the boy said callously.
“What’s it you dobe?”
Growling, “So, how long you plan on staying this time teme?”
He merely shrugged. Then there was an awkward silence between the two of them. The Uchiha was the first to speak.
“Hey… What’s wrong with Sakura?” Naruto clenched his fist. “I tried to talk to her, but she was acting strange and wanted to get away from me?”
“No Shit! SHE WAS RAPED YOU EMO SON OF A BITCH!!!” Naruto screamed, punching him with all his might, which caused Sasuke to go flying head first into the nearest tree. There was silence. Sasuke just sat there on the. ground trying to make sense of what his former team-mate had just told him. The words echoed in his mind. 'She was raped!' 'Raped… raped'
Very quietly, Naruto began to speak. “It was a few weeks ago, the same day I had gotten back to Konoha,” he paused, trying to contain his anger. “…She had gone out looking for you.” When he heard this Sasuke could feel his heart caught in his throat. “When she didn’t come back, they figured something must have happened. So they sent some anbu out after her. They found her in the woods at the bottom of Kikyou pass.”
Sasuke felt a jolt go up his spine. He had a flashback to that day on the mountain when he had heard that noise. Suddenly, there was Itachi, wiping the blood on his face. Her blood. He then pictured Sakura lying there, broken. The scene replayed itself over and over again in his mind.
He was brought back to reality when Naruto went on. “When they found her she was lying in a pool of her own blood. She was still unconscious. She was badly bruised and had a broken hip and dislocated her shoulder, but those were the least of it. They did everything they could. Tsunade-bachan managed to heal her body, but she hasn’t spoken since.”
Sasuke couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He was disgusted with himself. After a few minutes he turned and ran back into the woods.
‘Damn it!’ he thought seething with rage. ‘I was right there. I could have done something. If I had only gotten up off of my lazy ass I could have protected her! Damn you Itachi!’
Meanwhile, Sakura sat at the edge of a pond staring at her reflection. He probably hated her now. He would never want anything to do with her ever again. She had been defiled by the one person who had destroyed everything he loved. Everything he had ever known. Sasuke watched her from behind a tree. What was he supposed to say? Before he knew what he was doing he had slowly walked up behind her and gently encircled her in his arms, letting them rest on her waist. She felt a chill run up her spine and fear began to well up in the pit of her stomach, but it quickly disappeared when she heard a familiar voice gently whisper her name.
“Sakura…”
It was Sasuke. She felt cold. She couldn’t bare it any longer. She didn’t care if he hated her. At that moment she needed him. She turned around in his arms and buried herself in his arms as she sobbed into his chest. She was shaking. He didn’t know what to do, so he just sat there holding her in his arms. He had never been one for comforting. He didn’t know why, but it just felt natural.
After a while she had calmed down a bit. But she was still clinging to his chest. Sasuke began to speak in a calm tone. But one that was clearly suppressing anger.
“It was him? It was Itachi… wasn’t it?”
She went stiff. How had he known? How could he have possibly…? It didn’t matter anymore. There was no doubt about it. There was no way he’d ever… he had to hate her. She felt so dirty.
“g…Gomen,” she said trying to choke back her tears. It didn’t work. She began sobbing uncontrollably. He tightened his arms around her.
He knew it. That day, that scream, the blood, it was all Itachi. He tried to suppress rage growing inside of him. He had taken everything. His family, his childhood, his home, he had tried to take his best friend, and now this. He had taken the one thing that had rightfully belonged to him! ‘Wait, were did that come from?’ His thoughts were interrupted by Sakura broken sobs.
“…I’m sorry. Plea…please don’t leave,” she said hesitantly.
Leave? Why would he leave? No he couldn’t. He wouldn’t. Not after this. He wasn’t there for her when she had needed him most and he wasn’t going to let anything like that happen, ever again.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he said softly resting his chin on the top of her head.
She was shocked. Why? Why is he staying? Surly he didn’t want to be here. Why would anyone want to stay with a whore like her? Still, she was relieved.
