A Promise
Chapter One_A Promise
“Show yourself…” The figure spoke up, stepping out of the shadows. Uchiha Itachi’s eyes trained onto the bunshin hiding behind the tree. “…Uzumaki Naruto…”
Naruto hardened his resolve and stepped out, facing Itachi bravely. “Are you here to capture me?”
“No…That’s not it. I just want to talk,” Itachi replied honestly.
Naruto stared at him, a bead of sweat trailing down his cheek as his stomach churned inside. Behind Itachi, two of his clones rushed in for a surprise attack. Without even glancing back, Itachi drew two kunai and threw them behind him, dispensing of the clones.
Naruto glared at him. “Do you really think I’m going to believe you that easily!?”
Itachi calmly lowered his hands, “It looks like you have a decent grasp of how to fight a Sharingan user…but I know you’re here alone. Why do you not flee?”
“Hah!” Naruto grinned confidently. “I can be one person, or a thousand! Besides, I can’t just run away! If I can just capture you, I’ll be able to see Sasuke!!”
“……why are you so obsessed with my little brother? He’s a missing-nin, right?” Itachi asked.
“It’s because I, at least, think of him as a brother…” Naruto answered. his expression dead serious. “…a hell of a lot more than you ever have…!!!”
Itachi just stared blankly at him, resisting a sad but amused smile that wanted to form on his lips. Even if Naruto did not realize the truth yet, he already had. Naruto let out a battle cry and started to rush towards him. Ignoring his recklessness, Itachi released a wave of black ravens that clouded Naruto’s sight and drew him into his world.
“You are already within my Genjutsu,” Itachi’s voice sounded through his head.
Naruto cursed, watching as the birds around him gathered and formed into Itachi’s body.
“I’ll tell you one more. I just want to talk with you a little,” Itachi repeated himself.
Naruto scowled, giving in but not letting his guard down. “Fine…then let’s talk. What do you want?”
“Just then…you said that you think of Sasuke as a brother,” Itachi repeated Naruto’s earlier words.
“Yeah…what of it?” Naruto growled out.
“…There was never anyone there for him. Soon, I won’t be either,” Itachi cryptically explained. “Someday…when this is all over…he’ll need someone.”
Naruto frowned, confused by what Itachi was trying to say to him.
Itachi sighed and closed his eyes, smiling ruefully. “Naruto…I have one final request. When this is all over…please…give Sasuke the sex talk.”
“WHA-!?!” Naruto shrieked, blushing and gawking at Itachi. Did the conversation seriously just go there?
“He was too young when they were alive. I doubt anyone ever explained to him how it works. You said you think of him as a brother…so then, do this one last thing for me and for him,” Itachi stated calmly, as if this was the most natural conversation to be having with an enemy. “Very soon, you’ll be all he has.”
With that, the genjutsu ended and Naruto found himself on all fours on the ground, shaking as his body readjusted to reality. “Wh…What exactly is going on…?”
He looked up at Itachi with eyes mixed in confusion and disbelief, receiving only a blank stare in return. “You were after me, weren’t you!? In that case…!”
“I’ll be going…” Itachi cut him off, unwilling to explain why they’d just had that discussion. He closed his eyes and formed a seal with one hand, dismissing his shadow clone. “I have important matters that I have to attend to.”
Naruto sat and watched the clone disperse, his mind racing from their talk.
He just couldn’t believe what just happened!
