Smiles

A/N: First story is titled 'Smiles'.

---

Sakura had been happy to hear the news, hugging me as a tight and and as gentle as she saw fit. Now that she and Ino were now genuine friends, she made a special bouquet of Jasmines for me from the flower shop she worked at. Her smile probably kept me awake for a good while...

Naruto, now a father, was also excited for me, because he knew I needed this; he could tell that I hadn't smiled like I had then for a long time. But, in a moment of wisdom, he even told me not to say much more... but I guess I didn't believe... My smile was too big...

Kakashi actually placed that orange book of his down and gave me a genuine smile from behind his mask and exposed eyes. The last mission we had embarked on together left him with a scar above his good eye that needed to be treated, leaving him partially blind for a few days or so. He laughed, supposing his taking the hit for me was a better idea than originally planned...

Neji smirked, as did Shikamaru, Sasuke, Shino (to my surprise) and Tenten. They all meant well though, and flashed me a smile as they patted me on the back, even Shino.

Everyone supported me, even Kiba who thought I was strange for wanting this in the first place. But, once he layed eyes on me, his toothy smile soon turned to a hearty laugh, much like Chouji's and Asuma's.

Gai and Lee did their characteristic big smile, acompanied with glistening teeth, even though it was cloudy. Hinata and Ino, who both could hardly restrain themselves from pummeling me (I believe Hinata was a little drunk at the time) had to pull the green beasts off of me as they bear hugged me until I could no longer breathe.

So, it came as a surprise to me when I fell to the ground that night, the blunt edge of a kunai having broken my cheek bone and its other having dug deep into my belly. The word 'sin' echoed the loudest amongst others in my ear as I fell, muttered with so much disgust that it, alone, made me wish to vomit. I wanted to cry, but my body was frozen like the sidewalk I lied on, too afraid to make a noise that could bring him back. But, when I heard the sandals return to the crowd of boots, I rolled over on my side, towards the destination I had been so eagered to reach, and cried.

I remember, however, one more smile that day, the one thay most assuredly saved my life. On his way to his apartment, roughly an hour after I rolled over, down the path that I had, too, taken, Yamato saw me rubbing my bleeding, bulging belly. He knew, then, what I was so eagered to tell him. But, with a smile, he said it'd be okay...

He'll make me a mother again some day.
