Hidden Meaning.

Hey, boys and girls. I’m just getting’ fired up here! OnBrokenWings, one of the best upcoming authors I’ve been able to find on this website, has inspired me to make a Naruto fanfic. In this one, Sakura’s all grown up, and so are Naruto and Sasuke and everyone else from the show. They’ve all grown apart, but now they’re back in the Village Hidden in the Leaves for a competition pretty close to the third level of the Chunin Exams. If there are any inconsistencies AT ALL, please, all you much more faithful Naruto fans need just correct me in a constructive manner, and I will go back and edit the chapter to fit what really happens in the series. I’m only to where Sakura and Ino are facing off in the Chunin Exam’s prelims. Sorry for anything I’ll miss. Starting now.

Chapter One: Returning Home: Sakura’s Deep Thoughts

Things were beautiful at one time. I never forgot the first time I ever laid eyes on Sasuke Uchiha, my very first love. I never forgot when Ino and I put it all on the line during the Chunin Exams. I never forgot the look Naruto got in his eye whenever someone put Sasuke and me in danger.

At that age, anything seems possible. Sasuke seemed wild and dangerous, but he was only seeking revenge on the one who had killed his family, causing him to be left alone as the only remaining Uchiha. It turned out to be Naruto who was wild and dangerous, where he had always seemed like a klutzy goof. Maybe everyone else in our village was right to regard him as an animal, as something lower than human.

But you had to respect the guy; the only reason he ever wanted to be noticed was because everyone generally avoided him and treated him like dirt. He acted like a hooligan all the time because at least people were looking at him and talking about him like he was any other child, even if it was just for a moment.

But he wasn’t. He wasn’t like any other child.

He was the one who housed the great fox-demon that had tried to destroy our village. It seems like such a burden now. Now that I know what real burdens are like.

It’s been almost ten years since I last saw my old teammates. I went on, to train myself in the ways of the other villages. I was hoping that it would help me balance my chakra more, and it would make me stronger. I became stronger and much more knowledgeable about the world that lies outside our village limits.

I’m reflecting on all of this just as I am passing through the gates of my home village because I am home. At last, I am really and truly home again.

Maybe things will go back to that same kind of beautiful that they were before.

I can hope for it… but I know it won’t happen.

A/N: Okay, okay, I’m starting out slowly, but I’m going to be gaining momentum as I go along. Btw, i wrote this a veryvery long time ago, and i would appreciate whatever constructive criticism you have. i'm not very familiar with the anime, but i am totally in love with the idea of sakura/sasuke. i think they have such amazing fluff potential!

Sneak Peek:

Chapter Two: Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke: Together Again

He was older now, but his face had definitely remained the same. His blond hair was longer than he had kept it as a child, but his blue eyes definitely twinkled with the same light and defiance that she remembered being his dominant quality. He stood to greet her, grinning and holding out his hand. But when she took it in hers, he enveloped her in a bear hug – which he could do now that he was a good deal taller than she.

“Wow,” she murmured, looking him over and brushing a stray strand of pink hair back behind her left ear. “Naruto! You look…”

“Old?” he asked her.

She smiled, letting her shoulders sag a little in defeat. “Yea,” she laughed, giving him a warm, friendly look. She looked around the bar “Where is he?” she asked.

“You mean me?”

She turned, gasping. “Oh, Sasuke,” she whispered sadly.
