“Sa-Sasuke.”

There was a high-pitched whine followed by a loud, throaty moan; silence followed for the briefest of moments before another cry came from the room.

“Oh God!” Came a loud cry.

The next few moments were filled with grunts and groans before one last scream bounced off the walls and finally, everything was silent.

Obsidian eyes stared up at the white ceiling as the house quieted down. Fluffy pillows were pushed against pale ears while loud rock music blared out of the radio next to the bed, but even these two things could not block out the noise. Eyelids finally closed as the silence continued and for a moment, he was at peace; until the alarm clock went off.

He fought the urge to chunk the annoying piece of plastic at the wall and just skip work. With a silent groan, he rolled out of bed and into the bathroom where he refused to look at his reflection, knowing how bad it must look.

Damn himself for being so nice.

Itachi stumbled into work that morning, glaring at his secretary as she chirped out a cheerful good morning. She paled instantly and he almost felt bad for her. Almost.

He found his office door without any more trouble and made it into the room, locking the door behind him where he then proceeded to drop down onto the black leather couch, and let out a sigh.

Two weeks.

He dragged a hand over his face as he tried to remember what he did to deserve this cruel trick that life had thrown at him. His mind drifted away, where it seemed like just yesterday he had gotten the call from his brother.

(Flashback)

It was still early in the morning, a few hours before lunch, when the call came in. He answered the phone and instantly recognized his little brothers calm voice over the telephone. He seemed to be holding back his anger from something and in the background; Itachi could hear Naruto screaming at someone along with the sound of sirens.

“What happened Sasuke?”

“Well, you know that lady that lives below us?”

Itachi smirked, “The crazy one that runs around with a bucket on her head and chases you around the building if you walk by her door too loud?”

“Yes, that one.” There was a moment’s hesitation, “It seems she was trying to cook something and she blew up her kitchen.”

“And that affects you how?”

Sasuke sighed, “The explosion also took out the floor of our kitchen and destroyed some of the living room.”

Now Itachi could clearly hear Naruto screaming in the background, “It’s all gone, all my ramen; vanished in a single poof of fire.”

“Naruto, calm down.” Sasuke said as calmly as he could and Itachi could practically see his brother trying to will a headache away.

“The apartment complex said that it’ll take a few months to fix and we need to find a new place to stay during the renovations.”

“No.”

Sasuke grunted, “And why not?”

“I see you enough at work.”

There was a brief pause and Itachi knew that Sasuke was thinking of his next step, “Fine, but if we have to go stay with mother and father, then I’m going to show father that picture.”

Itachi ground his teeth together. He should have known that Sasuke would have used that. “Fine, you and your little idiot can stay with me until the hole is fixed.

If he had known it was going to turn out like this, he would have sent his brother to live with their parents and would have taken whatever punishment his father deemed to give him. This was much worse than anything his father could have given to him.

Two weeks they had been staying with him.

And two weeks had passed without a descent night sleep because of the two screaming lovebirds who fucked like rabbits. Now he had bags under his eyes; (very un-Uchiha like). The idea had actually occurred to him that he should invest in a pull out bed and just stay at the office for the time that they were staying with him, but he pushed the thought away. It was his house and he wasn’t going to let them kick him out.

Of course, this could be easily settled if he just kicked them out in the first place but Naruto could charm anyone with his puppy eyes. Not to mention, Sasuke had already told their parents what had happened and his mother thought it was the perfect time for them to have a chance to get closer now. And Itachi was in no mood to deal with his mother when she found out that he kicked them out.

So now he was stuck in a lose-lose situation until a better idea presented itself.

There was a knock on the door and Itachi flung a cushion at the door, “Busy!” he shouted

“Fine, I’ll give your coffee to someone else than.” Came the answer from the other side of the door and he recognized the voice as the Marketing Director, Deidara

He stood up and let him into his office, before turning back to the softness of the couch. The smell of coffee drifted through the large room but did nothing to help wake him up.

“You look awful.” The blond said and flinched slightly at the look Itachi threw him. “Have you been sleeping well?”

“No.” Was the short toned reply.

“You know, maybe for Lent you should give up sweets at night, it will help you sleep easier at night.”

“What are you mumbling about?” Itachi asked as he finally reached for the cup of coffee.

“Lent.” Deidara answered, “You know that time before Easter when people give things up for forty days or so.”

The Uchiha sipped at his cup and allowed the hot liquid to run down his throat, “You take part in this?”

“I try.”

“What did you give up?”

The blonde-haired person shifted slightly, “Saying ‘un’ after everything.”

Itachi arched an eyebrow, “And how’s that going for you?”

“Harder than I thought, un.” There was a moment’s hesitation, "Damn it!"

Itachi closed his eyes for a second, wishing his headache away when an epiphany hit him. “Deidara, tell me more about this Lent thing.”

It was close to one o’ clock when Itachi had his secretary call Sasuke and Naruto to his office. He knew that they would be done with their lunch break by then and a little more willing to listen. After all, Naruto was the easiest to deal with when he had ramen in him; and if Naruto was calm, it was safe to say that Sasuke would be easier to deal with as well.

There was a knock on the door, before the two entered his office. He watched Naruto enter slowly before Sasuke pushed him in the rest of the way and shut the door behind them. Itachi glanced back at the computer and kept his face neutral as they took a seat in front of his desk.

It was silent for a while before Itachi turned away from his computer and cleared his throat as he looked at them, “Sasuke, Naruto, have either of you two heard about Lent?”

“The stuff in your belly button?” Naruto asked.

“No.” Itachi answered while Sasuke rolled his eyes, “It’s a time period that last for forty days before Easter. During that time, people give up certain items in their life. For instance, sweets, video games, anime; you get the idea.”

Naruto gasped, “Those poor people.”

“What does this has to do with us, Itachi.” Sasuke asked, his face calm.

Itachi stood up and walked around to the front of his desk, “Everything Sasuke. I have a challenge for you. One that requires you to give nothing to me, or anyone.” He leaned against the edge of the desk and eyed them.

“I want you to give something up for Lent.”

“What?” they both asked together.

Itachi gestured with his hand, “It’s simple really; you just have to stop doing this thing for forty days; a month and a half.” He stopped and smirked at them, “Unless you think you can’t do it.”

Naruto stood up quickly, “Are you saying that we’re weak and won’t be able to finish this?”

“If you can’t do it, yes.”

The blond huffed slightly, “I’m not afraid of a challenge. I’ll finish your stupid Lent challenge.”

Sasuke grabbed Naruto’s arm and yanked him down, “Dobe, shut up. You don’t know what he has planned. What if he tells you to give up ramen or something like that.”

This made Naruto hesitate and he sat down in his chair again. Sasuke turned back to face Itachi, “What brought about this sudden idea? We don’t even follow any certain type of religion, that’s more along Hidan’s thing.”

“Neither does Deidara, but he’s doing it. Think of it as a way to improve yourself in your work field; it will teach you patience and benefit everyone in the company. Since Deidara is Naruto’s superior, I think it only seems fair that he tries it as well.”

The younger Uchiha snorted, “Then why am I included in this?”

Itachi smirked, “Because I’m your boss and your older brother and I know what’s best for both this company and you. This will teach both of you self restraint and control.”

Sasuke glared at him while Naruto stared at the two, wisely keeping his mouth shut. During his time staying with Sasuke, he knew better to interrupt an Uchiha glare down; although, he already knew who was going to win this one. Itachi had determination set into his eyes and he wasn’t going to back down from this challenge.

“Sasuke, this isn’t a suggestion, it’s an order.”

There was a moment hesitation before, “Fine.”

The tension in the room lifted as Itachi circled around to the other side of the desk and pulled out some papers from a drawer. “These are the papers that outline what you will need to do, the rules you’ll need to follow, and what will happen if you can’t fulfill the task given to you.”

Naruto chuckled, “I bet I can last longer than you Sasuke-teme.”

“Whatever dobe.”

And with that, the unspoken challenge was set up between them as they left the office with the papers in their hands. Itachi leaned back in his chair and allowed the corners of his lips to twitch up into a smile. He turned back to his computer and his eyes scanned the document in front of him one last time while he heard his name being screamed throughout the large building.

In an office at the other side of the building, Sasuke felt his eyebrow twitching as he stared at the piece of paper in his hand. If there was any doubt in his mind about Itachi before, it had vanished now.

Itachi, was a psychotic bastard.

A blond head connected with the smooth surface of the desk and he ignored the look the Neji gave him.

“I hate that bastard.”

Itachi set his alarm clock that night and let his head fall to the pillow. In the next room there were faint scuffling sounds, before Naruto’s loud voice broke through the wall, “Hell no teme, don’t even think about it! I’m not dressing in a stupid Speedo and working with Sai for a week!”

His brother’s answer was softer and he didn’t catch the response, but there was a loud thump on the floor and Itachi could only guess that Naruto kicked his brother onto the floor.

“Then go sleep on the couch if you can’t restrain yourself.”

Silence fell over the house again as Itachi turned onto his back, and for the first time in two weeks; fell asleep.

A/N: This story attacked me in the middle of the night a few months ago, and I’ve been dying to work on it. Not to mention, I feel bad about leaving for my trip without one last post, so here’s a quick introduction to my newest story. If ya’ll seem to enjoy it, I’ll work on it over my trip and probably finish it, then have it ready to post when I get back home. The chapters will be short and will cover every day during the challenge; so their will be about 40 chapters or so, (40 days in Lent). Tell me what you think.
