They didn’t talk about it. He ignored it completely even when it was so blatantly in his face. He knew it wasn’t his lover’s fault. If Naruto were a better person he’d let go. The truth was Naruto just wasn’t that good of a person. He’d come apart after Sasuke abandoned the village. He’d come unhinged after his best friend, the man he was too far gone on to see clearly, had attempted to kill him, again and again.

 

Shikamaru had been there though. Every time he came back empty handed, every time he woke up beaten within an inch of his own life for or by Sasuke Uchiha, Shikamaru was by his side. The Nara never had an ‘I told you so’ or ‘just give up on him’ waiting. Instead he’d offer ramen and silent companionship. Naruto never liked the quiet, it reminded him too much that he was alone but with Shikamaru the quiet was comforting. Soon that quiet comfort turned into soft kisses and eventually wanton moans.

 

The first time he’d smelt Neji on Shikamaru’s skin, Naruto had been sure he was hallucinating. He’d said nothing because they were on a mission together, fought for their lives and succeeded in their task. The problem was they stunk, every time they returned from a mission the scent was heavier. Naruto would have had to have been a real idiot to not have seen the hungry way Neji looked at his lover. The real problem was that as a team, Neji and Shikamaru were a good team. As far as surveillance and information gathering went, they were a team that was hard to beat. Despite that, Naruto still stopped putting them on missions together. Neither of the shinobi questioned it but Shikamaru had the decency to at least look contrite.

 

Two days ago the blond had no choice but to send the duo out once more and they’d arrived back only an hour ago, long after dark. Both had reported to him promptly despite Naruto having gone home to the house he shared with his Nara. They’d reported and Shikamaru went to clean up. It had to have been the fastest shower the pony tailed man had ever taken. He’d told Neji to shower and then informed Naruto that the Hyuuga would join them for dinner. Naruto had grit his teeth and nodded, silently deciding if Neji kept eyeing his lover like a piece of well cooked steak he would Rasengan his head and be well within his rights to do so.

 

Dinner was a rather quiet, tense affair with the two shinobi passing looks to one another as their Hokage and friend watched in frustration. Finally Naruto’s chair skidded across the floor. “ENOUGH! What the fuck are you two doing? And don’t lie to me. I’m not stupid!”

 

Shikamaru blinked. It had been so long since he’d been on the receiving end of Naruto’s temper that he was genuinely shocked.

 

“I’m in love with Shikamaru. We have been having sex when we are on missions together.” Neji spoke in such a factual sort of bored voice that Naruto almost thought the words came from Shikamaru’s mouth.

 

Gaping, Naruto sank into his chair. He’d known but he’d expected a little denial, a little shame, not such blatant honesty. Blinking back his tears, the Kyuubi container looked at his genius lover, “Why?”

 

“As trite as it sounds it just happened. The first time was after we had ingested a poison that made us out of our minds. It was in the report.” Shikamaru whispered, keeping his voice low and soothing. “Naruto I don’t wan…”

 

“OH SHUT UP! You two fucking was NOT in that report Shika. You two continuing to fuck was not from poison.” Glaring he looked at Neji. “Get out of my home and take him with you.” The anger and betrayal making him shake. It was taking all that Naruto had to control himself and Kyuubi.

 

Shaking his head, Neji stood and moved to stand in front of Naruto. “Neji!” Shikamaru knew the signs of Naruto’s slipping control and Neji was taking a huge chance.

 

Leaning over, Neji placed a deep hungry kiss on Naruto’s mouth, grinning into the kiss when Naruto stiffened in shock. “That’s not what we want. He doesn’t want to lose you, he loves you and I have wanted you but we did not know how to approach you.” Growling, Naruto yanked Neji in this time, dominating the kiss.
