Recovering Sasuke

this is my first attempt at a fic in quite a few years so it coul take a while to get back into.

“Naruto, where are you going?” Sakura asked as she watched the blond ninja come to halt several yards in front of her. She, of course, knew where he was going but she needed to hear it from him, for him to say that he was going to retrieve Sasuke from Orichimaru. She was being selfish, she knew, but she wanted him back so bad. But she knew it could bring harm to Naruto and it was only recently that the blond Kyuubi container had started being more manageable. But she knew that also had to do with Sasuke leaving.

He had left nearly a month ago and Naruto had only just gotten out of the hospital after that fiasco. Naruto stopped and slowly swivelled into her direction, he knew what she really wanted to hear and would gladly give it, but he knew she wouldn’t like it in the end. “I’m going to get him back Sakura, I love him too much to leave him at the mercies of that snake faced scum.”

Sakura sighed, there was her answer, the answer to the question she’d been unwilling to ask, Naruto loved Sasuke and she would have to deal with that she guessed. She nodded that she understood and just simply said, “come home Naruto please, just come home, you can always try again.”

When he did return home, he was battered and covered in blood. Tsunade was sworn to secrecy and life continued on. Sakura never asked what happened and she didn’t really need to try too hard to guess some of what had happened. She watched as naruto trained day and night, dragging himself through life, barely eating or sleeping. Just fighting. Fighting to get his love back.

3 years passed this way, occasionally Naruto would disappear from the village and he would come back more bloodied and bruised then he did the times before. Sakura feared for him, she made him eat and take some sleep but in the end she knew it was mostly futile.

 He had surpassed her years ago, passing Chunnin exams and then the year after the Jonin exams. The amount of jutsus he knew, she suspected, surpassed that of even Kakashi-sensei. He was on his was to completely fulfilling his dream of becoming hokage and yet Orichimaru was obviously better than he was.

Another thing she had noticed was the constant red hue to his chakra now. She knew before that had only happened when his was exhausted and he had tapped into the kyuubi’s chakra to finish the fight.  She had a feeling that this was only going to end up one of two ways. Sasuke back and in Naruto's arms or Naruto somewhere in a forest dead, by his or someone else’s hand. And she feared the day that would come.
