In the Hall

Anko had her head pressing against the wall of the Chuunin office as tightly as she could get it. She was silent; the only sound was that of her own beating heart. Iruka came down the hallway. Before Iruka could say anything to Anko she placed her fingers in front of her mouth to form a ssshhh hand signal. Iruka looked a little puzzled.

“What are you doing?” he lipped to Anko.

“Eavesdropping.” She lipped back to him. Iruka’s face lit up and he quietly walked up behind Anko and placed his head to the wall as well. They were trying to hear what was going on because Genma was talking to some female Chuunin that typically worked on the second floor of the academy. It appeared that they were making plans for the evening but it was uncertain as to what was truly happening. Soon Kurenai appeared in the hallway. Fortunately for Iruka and Anko. Kurenai just looked at them both as if they were crazy.

“We’re eavesdropping.” Anko lipped to her. Kurenai lipped an “ooh!” then she joined them, now there were three of them trying to listen inside. None of them could hear very well, but they did determine that Genma was going to be with whoever was in there that night. It sounded as if a door were going to open; so the three of them quickly backed away from the wall and began walking down the hall. It was obvious that all three of them were supposed to be doing something, but none of them were doing anything. Anko knew she had a slew of work ahead of her that day so she went back to her office in order to try and get started. Most of the applicant exams were in place for the chuunin exam and Anko had gotten the first wave of mail sent out to the applicants. Anko hoped that she would have the rest of the mailing completed by late afternoon.

Anko also noticed she had several forms to sign on her desk. It all regarded new students in the academy. Both Anko and Iruka were in charge of signing off on all new students. It wasn’t long before Anko’s phone rang.

“Mitarahsi Anko.” She answered.

“What are you wearing?” the voice on the other end asked her. Anko laughed out loud.

“A red bra and matching panties.” Anko played along. It was Kakashi.

“That’s nice so how about you come over when you’re done today? You can show them to me.” Kakashi said.

“You know I’m not really wearing that right?” Anko asked slapping her signature on paper after paper.

“Now, why would you lie to me about your underwear?” Kakashi asked her, still playing with her.

“Because you know that half the time I don’t wear anything under my clothes anyway.” Anko said. Man, she was good.

“Yeah, I have nothing to say in response to that.” Kakashi said.

“Good, so I’ll come over after I’m done and I’ll show you what I’m not wearing.” Anko loved pinning Kakashi in situations where he wasn’t certain what to say next. And, she was very good at this.

“Okay, I’ll be waiting for you. So, what are you doing now?” he asked her.

“Putting my signature on god knows what and trying to send out another round of mail. I have to get the Chuunin exam details out to all the applicants this week. By the way, what do you want me to bring you to eat on my way over?” Anko asked.

“Nothing, it’s okay. I’ll cook.” Kakashi answered.

“Okay, well make sure the sake is cold, I’ll be over at around 4:30 or 5:00 depending on what happens here the rest of the day.” Anko said. Anko hung up the phone and went back to her work. She had made a lot of progress, so much in fact that she was slightly ahead of her own schedule that she had made for herself. It was strange because Anko seldom kept the deadlines she kept for herself. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that she was going to be spending the night with Kakashi again. Of course, it always began as her going over to his house for the evening and then she would end up spending the night every time.

Anko had finished every she had planned for herself and she took her mail to the mailroom to drop in the out box. Kurenai was dropping letters in their appropriate shoots for the jounins and other teachers.

“You’re going to Kakashi’s again arne’t you?” Kurenai asked, noticing how Anko’s face glowed.

“Yeah. I’m leaving here in a bit.” Anko answered her, dropping her huge wad of mail into the out box.

“You know, I’m not supposed to say anything. But, he’s crazy about you.” Kurenai told her. Anko looked at her.

“Are you serious?” she asked a huge smile across her face.

“Oh yeah. He thinks you are perhaps the most unique person he’s ever met. I think it’s because you don’t put up with anyone’s shit and you are the first person in a crowd to raise hell.” Kurenai told her. Anko smiled. Still she wasn’t used to the attention, the adoration, the praise; and so she wasn’t certain how to act.

“Have you been spending a lot of time with Asuma?” Anko asked.

“Yeah, I see him just about everyday. You and I will have to get together and talk sometime. I bet you’ve got all the dark secrets I’m just dying to know.” Kurenai said.

“Oh, sweetie, we simply must talk sometime.”
