Memories of the Future: Chapter 9 - Memories... (all alone in the moonlight...)

Sasuke watched from a distance as Naruto sat beneath a tree in his backyard. A cool breeze blew off the lake nearby and ruffled shining blonde locks. Sasuke’s heart began to pound when Naruto’s hand moved to his stomach, and he was beside the blonde in an instant.

“How’s your stomach?”

Blue eyes shot up to his face, and then a gentle smile flitted across Naruto’s lips. “You’re back.” A tanned hand reached for his, and Sasuke sat down beside Naruto, placing a warm kiss on those smiling lips.

“Tsunade-sama told me that you’d been sick. What happened?” he asked as he wound his arms around the blonde.

“I don’t know,” came the whispered answer. “It felt as if my insides were trying to burst through my skin, and the pain lasted for days. Whenever baa-chan tried to use her chakra on me, Kyuubi’s would flare and reject it. Even after the pain vanished, she was unable to examine me. And Kyuubi won’t tell me what the hell’s going on!” Naruto’s voice was filled with exasperation, and Sasuke’s arms tightened around him.

“Don’t worry, dobe. I’m sure it won’t harm you, whatever it is, since what harms you endangers Kyuubi.”

“Yeah. Baa-chan was worried that the seal had broken. But ero-sennin says it’s still intact.”

“That’s good to know.”

“How was the mission?”

“Long. And the thought that there are more Sound bases out there tires me.”

Naruto chuckled. “Well, you are the only one that knows them all.”

Sasuke sighed in disgust. It had been three years since he’d left Orochimaru and two since the Sannin’s death. After a year of being watched and tested, the elders were more than happy to send him on every search and destroy mission for the Sound bases that they could come up with.

But it was all worth it for the love he held in his arms. After Naruto had thoroughly kicked his ass for leaving in the first place, the blonde had forgiven him, and that was all that mattered to Sasuke in the end.

It still amazed him that Naruto had forgiven him so easily, but he recalled their battle at the Valley of the End. While it had been bloody and brutal and real, they’d come to an understanding of sorts. Naruto had known he had to leave, and though he’d denied it, Sasuke had known Naruto would come for him. And now that he was no longer blinded by the all-consuming need to avenge his clan, Sasuke was truly grateful that Naruto had never given up on him.

Sasuke buried his face in Naruto’s hair, breathing in the scent of strawberries. “Don’t ever leave me, Naruto. I wouldn’t survive.”

“No, you’ll live, teme. You’ll live because I went through too much trouble to keep your ass alive.”

Sasuke kept from rolling his eyes as Naruto chuckled at his own joke. No, Naruto would never leave him. Nothing short of death could keep them apart now. And maybe, he fiercely hoped, not even then.

Sasuke was brought from his memories at the sound of his office door opening. Yuki stood there, a searching look on her face.

“Hokage-sama, are you alright? I’ve been knocking for the past minute without an answer.”

“Hn.” Sasuke inwardly winced, knowing Yuki didn’t know how to interpret his monosyllabic answers despite the years she’d worked for him.

“That’s good to know, Hokage-sama. Now, this file of names for the jounin exams needs to be looked over and approved. Please do so immediately.”

Sasuke just stared at her for a moment. She’d understood that he was fine, even if that had been a lie? He hesitantly reached for the folder she presented him, and she smiled when he had a firm grasp on it. He opened his mouth to thank her, but was interrupted by a loud bellow outside his office from down the corridor.

“Yuki-san! Sakura-san needs you in the hospital! She says to get back pronto.”

“Tell her to shove it up her a- I mean, that I’m busy at the moment!” Yuki yelled back, surprising Sasuke at her crude language, of which he’d never heard before from the usually reserved young woman. Pale indigo eyes turned back to him, and Sasuke nearly choked at the desperate need that shone in their depths, need to be assigned something away from the hospital.

“Excuse the interruption, Hokage-sama, but Sakura-san needs-”

“Tell her that Yuki-san will be busy helping me for the upcoming jounin exams, and that takes precedent over her medical training,” Sasuke found himself saying.

The girl glanced curiously at Yuki before bowing and leaving the office. The dark-haired girl turned to him with a smile, and Sasuke had to keep his eyes from widening. When was the last time he’d seen the girl smile?

“Thank you, Hokage-sama.” He really didn’t need her help, and she knew that, but Yuki nonetheless stood by the desk, almost nervously, and he raised his brow in question. “Ne, Hokage-sama, I was wondering if you would mind if I left early for lunch.”

“Is there some reason that you need to take an extended lunch?”

“Not really, but I do need to speak with Kakashi-sensei, so…”

She trailed off, and Sasuke didn’t know what to say. He remembered vividly the night she’d gone out on a date with the old pervert, how shocked he’d been even though he hadn’t shown it. She’d denied it being a date, but then why was she meeting him? ‘To talk’ was innocent enough, but Sasuke suddenly had his doubts.

‘Why the hell do you care what she does? Her personal life has nothing to do with you,’ he told himself. But, honestly, this was the most curious he’d been about something in almost twenty years.

“That’s fine, Yuki-san.”

“Thanks, Hokage-sama!” Her bright smile stunned him, and Sasuke’s vision was overtaken by bright blue eyes and shining blonde hair. His heart constricted painfully in his chest, and only his unwavering control over his breathing kept a pained gasp from flying from his mouth. “Uh, I mean, thank you, Hokage-sama,” she mumbled as she bowed, and then Sasuke was left alone in his office.

The room was filled with the scent of lilac as Sasuke massaged the oil into Naruto’s stiff back. His fingers dug into the tense muscles just under that tanned skin, and Sasuke smirked at Naruto’s groans of pleasure. And then he just couldn’t help himself; he began to massage lower until his slick palms came in contact with his dobe’s firm ass. Naruto moaned loudly into an overstuffed pillow at Sasuke’s attention to his backside, his firm strokes pressing his quickly arousing member enticingly into the mattress beneath him.

They hadn’t had sex since before Sasuke had left for his last mission weeks ago, and Sasuke was starting to feel the effects of going so long without. It amazed him that he’d gone sixteen years without sex, but a week or so away from his beautiful blonde had him sexually frustrated to the point of mass destruction (he swore he’d fix the training fields behind the house come morning).

But seeing Naruto grind himself into the mattress below was testing Sasuke’s patience, and without realizing, the bottle of oil was once again in his hand. He dribbled more over Naruto’s ass and ran his fingers through it until they were liberally coating with the sweet-scented liquid.

Sasuke scooted back some until he was straddling Naruto’s legs and slowly lowered his head. Using the thumbs of both hands to spread his blonde wide open, he slipped his tongue out and pierced the soft ring of muscle before him. Naruto cried out in stunned pleasure and rocked back, impaling himself on Sasuke’s exploring tongue.

Sasuke pulled back and smirked when he received a disappointed whimper, but a slick finger quickly replaced his tongue, making Naruto gasp in pleasure again. He teasingly thrust it in and out of the panting blonde, waiting for the muscles to loosen a bit. Then he added another finger, listening as Naruto hissed at the slight burn. He thrust them in far and extended his middle finger to find the dobe’s sweet spot. A loud shout told him when he’d located it, and he backed off to finish prepping his lover.

There were no words between them as their lust and need took control, but Sasuke moaned in loud gratification when Naruto screamed his name as he impaled his blonde lover forcefully on his cock. This time their love was defined by the fierce rocking of the bed as Sasuke fucked Naruto into the mattress; the desperate pants for air each time Sasuke grazed Naruto’s prostate; the rattle of the head board as Sasuke grabbed the bars, using them to push even more forcefully into his dobe’s tight ass.

At some point in his aching need, Sasuke reached down between Naruto’s legs and firmly grasped the blonde’s weeping cock. Naruto shouted with the extra sensation, and Sasuke began to jerk him off in concert with his wild thrusts. Then Naruto’s body tensed, and the tight heaven encasing Sasuke became a pleasurable hell as Naruto’s inner walls constricted around him, ripping a pleased moan from his chest as he spilled his seed inside his lover.

Sasuke collapsed on top of Naruto’s back, slipping a bit in their mingled sweat, but when he moved to pull out, Naruto heaved up, and Sasuke landed on his back, staring at Naruto sitting on his groin. Then without letting go of Sasuke’s cock, Naruto turned around to face him, his eyes a slightly purple color from the use of a small amount of Kyuubi’s power.

“We’re not done here, lover,” Naruto leaned down to whisper in his ear, and then those inner walls squeezed him again, and Sasuke felt himself stirring for another round. Naruto leaned down again and ran his tongue over Sasuke’s chest, lapping at the droplets of sweat that had yet to evaporate, paying special attention to his nipples until they were erect and begging to be played with. Naruto grinned mercilessly and bit down on one while his hand came up to pinch and twist the other.

Sasuke’s head flew back at the dual sensations, and he could feel himself swell inside Naruto’s ass. Then those teeth were gone from his chest and fixed to his throat, and Sasuke moaned at the thought of Naruto marking him for the world to see. A brief pain ran the length of his body, and he smelled the coppery scent of blood, but Sasuke’s hands came up and forced Naruto’s mouth harder against his skin, wanting to feel even more pain if it meant that he was Naruto’s.

Then Naruto lifted himself slightly up Sasuke’s reawakened length and lowered back down in an agonizingly slow pace, moving his mouth to Sasuke’s lips and initiating a searing kiss that left the raven breathless.

Naruto pushed himself into a sitting position, hands on Sasuke’s chest, and he began to ride Sasuke at a fast clip, and Sasuke did nothing to stop him. The sight of his love above him, sweat trickling down his brow, teeth biting into the flesh of his lower lip, was enchanting, and Sasuke found the only thing he could do was guide his hands to those pistoning hips and help them come down ever more forcefully so he could bury himself deeper inside that tight heat.

Again, they both came with hoarse cries, and Naruto finally allowed them to fall breathless next to each other on the mattress that Sasuke was sure would need to be replaced some time soon.

“Well, that was a fun ride,” Naruto breathed, and Sasuke could hear the content smile in his voice. Sasuke himself was so unbelievably happy, happier than he thought he could ever be, and he couldn’t keep a genuine laugh from bubbling up in his throat. Naruto turned to him in surprise, his wide blue eyes burning into his. Sasuke’s laugh faded to a small chuckle, and he lightly breathed, “I love you, dobe.”

Both boys froze at the unexpected words. Though they were lovers, they were also ninja, and attachments were dangerous. They both knew how they felt without words, but now that Sasuke had spoken, it had become a very new and very real aspect of their relationship.

“What?” Naruto asked hesitantly.

Sasuke looked into confused, yet hopeful eyes, and his surprise and indecision melted away. He reached out to grab Naruto’s hand and brought tanned fingers to brush against his lips.

“I do, Naruto. I love you.”

A golden dobe was attached to his neck in an instant. “Gods, teme, I love you, too!”

Sasuke squeezed him back and buried his face in slightly damp blonde locks. It killed Sasuke to know that he could have had this happiness so many years ago, but instead…. He shuddered. Sasuke didn’t want to think about it. Right now, he needed to make sure that this happiness never left him.

“Naruto,” he whispered into silky blonde hair, “will you marry me?”

>*<

Sasuke stared at his ceiling blankly, wondering how long ago the sun had set, but not really caring as he tumbled backward into blissful, yet painful memory.

He didn’t know why, but everything lately just reminded him of his husband, and it hurt to no end. It hurt everyday to sit in that office, behind that desk, manage an entire village, and know that someone else should be there in his place. It hurt everyday to see his children, especially Ayame, and know that none of them could clearly recall what he so easily could – their father’s bright smile and overly loud personality; his warm kisses to their foreheads when he laid them down to sleep; his ramen eating contests that he’d graciously lose before secretly sneaking ten more bowls. It all hurt.

But what hurt the most was that Sasuke was alone again. Sixteen years hadn’t been near enough time to heal his shattered heart, and he didn’t think eternity would be enough either. Naruto was his soul, his sun, his other half.

The only things that kept him from taking a kunai to his heart were his children, the only things left of his husband besides the necklace lying cold on his chest. His children had been the only things that staved off fatal nightmares sixteen years ago when Naruto had died in his arms. He’d continue living for his children, but his hope that death came swiftly to take him to Naruto was never far from his thoughts.

“Why isn’t Hokage-sama down here eating?”

There was another person he couldn’t seem to leave. Yuki had become part of their family from the instant Tsunade had died. Sasuke hadn’t failed to see the similarities between the young orphan and his Naruto, even though the child had grown up indifferent and cold, more than likely a side effect of Sasuke’s own demeanor. And Yuki was Hinata’s child, who’d been his friend as well as Naruto’s; he couldn’t in good conscience let her die on the streets.

“He said he wasn’t feeling well.”

Though Yuki had been acting strange lately. First the injury she’d sustained some days ago seemed to have caused her slight trouble with her memory. And the faint that had taken her in his office was unusual, for she hadn’t lost very much blood. And now, she was so much more open and cheerful, her indigo eyes shining in true happiness like he’d never seen before. The expressions he would see on her face would have his heart beating erratically in his chest, his eyes and mind yearning for the hair to be lighter, the eyes to be bluer.

“Well, not eating isn’t going to help him.”

She seemed to be on much friendlier levels with his children than she ever was before, and he knew that Kei and Ayame were thrilled. Touya took after him more than he’d previously imagined, but he thought he saw the boy’s eyes soften in contentment every time the young woman was around. Yuki seemed to brighten the day more often than not recently.

“Oto-sama said he didn’t like Yuki-chan’s food.”

Sasuke kept from rolling his eyes at Kei’s choice in wording. He did like Yuki’s cooking very much, though it did seem changed from what it used to be, but tonight was a night for bittersweet memories that would affect his taste, making anything that touched his tongue acid.

Sasuke listened intently to the brief, yet heavy silence, but tensed in fear and surprise when Yuki’s voice echoed through the mansion.

“You march upstairs and tell that teme that he’ll eat this food if I have to shove it down his throat with a pointy fork!”

His children laughed as Yuki cursed and apologized, and Sasuke’s chest clenched painfully as he tried to draw scattered air into his lungs. It was so like what Naruto would have said, had said many times, in the course of their marriage. How? How did she act so much like him when he least expected it?

Sasuke turned on his side and tried to stifle the sobs that ripped through his body. Tears he shouldn’t cry fell hotly down his cheeks and into his pillow, and Sasuke wished vainly for darkness and sleep.

“With this ring, I be wed.”

“Dammit, I think one of the twins just kicked me in the kidney.”
