Chapter 9

O_o update!! And oh...you guys are going to hate me in a little while...BUAHAHAHAHA! -evil maniacle write laugh-

Black eyes slowly opened and he looked around. The hospital wing. He frowned and looked to his arm. I.V. He followed it up. Sailene drip. Looking around the room he noticed the twins were no longer in the same room but Kabuto was working in the corner. He sat up and winced but managed to get all the way up. He removed the I.V. after stopping the drip and stood, slowly, to walk over to his assistant.

"What have you found?"

"They have birthmarks. Or what I assume are birthmarks. They showed up after you...they happened to show up yesterday." He was working and only paying half attention to his master. "Do you remember the dots Kimimaru had above each eyebrow in the center of his forehead?"

"Yes."

"Well, it seems the twins have them as well."

"Have they started showing signs of the transformation?"

"Not yet, but I think they will soon enough." Kabuto had to stop because a sudden pain shot through his left arm. He was amazed they were able to even give him a left arm after having to do what he did. "I also think they might be able to use the sharingan younger than possibly even Itatchi. Look," he moved out of the way of the microscope he had been staring down. Orochimaru stared down the lens, adjusting it slightly and his brows furrowed.

"Who's are these?"

"The two on the left are the twins and the two on the right are Itatchi's and Sasuke's."

"The twins are moving faster...." he stepped away, his eyes closing, his brain moving a mile-a-minute. "Estimated rate of change?"

"Seven hours." Orochimaru moved for a paper and his hand flew over it.

"We are sure it was Kimimaru's DNA and not someone else's?"

"Perfectly sure." The only time Kabuto had made a mistake was once. Everything else that could have been considered a mistake or failure was planned for carefully if the outcome he came to could not be reached. Not to mention he'd checked the DNA every time he took a sample of the girls blood. It was Kimimaru for sure.

Orochimaru looked over to Kabuto and frowned. "When was the last time you slept?" Kabuto seemed to think a moment.

"I don't remember Orochimaru-sama." His master turned back to his notes and continued writing.

"Two hours. After that, I want you back in here with both of them."

"Hai." He bowed and left. Orochimaru looked up from his notes to watch Kabuto walk out. He would never admit it, but after having to use Kabuto's body, he felt rather bad for the shinobi. Pushing the feelings back down, he continued what the other man had started.

Grass country. Horrible. After four days of absolutely horrid weather, they were finally seeing a rather sunny day. Five teams had been dispatched on this mission. Team Kakashi, Team Kurenai, Team Gai, Team Azuma and sadly enough, Team Ebisu. Of course Sasuke objected and so did Naruto. The blond hadn't asked for this many shinobi but alas, Tsunade wouldn't budge. While heading through Fire country, Shikamaru had devised a plan. They would split up and meet on the very edge of Grass in four days time. Well, it was day four and they were just getting to the meet up point.

Kakashi told them to stop and they did. All four of them went low and searched. Ahh. There was the trip wire. They stepped over it and headed into the woods. There sat the other four teams. Naruto shook his head. Of course Konohamaru would make it through, in fact, he was the one that probably set the trip wire. As for Sasuke, he looked wretched. He'd been put with Ebisu's team. No one on Team Kakashi wanted him so...it was the lesser of two evils. Ino's team or Ebisu's team. He chose Ebisu's team. That also meant that there were five people on that team but hell, what was one more? Shaking his head, Naruto sat down and looked around.

"Oye, who are you?" He pointed at a strange looking woman. Everyone looked over, except Shikamaru's team.

"Our new team member."

"N-nani?!" Naruto looked at Ino and his jaw dropped. "But I thought that-"

"Circumstances change Naruto." He looked over to Shikamaru who was just pulling out a cinnimon stick. Th blond shut up and turned to look at the woman again. She had a veil, about one inch wide, across her eyes and it was white. There were two blue clips holding in in place on either side of her head. Her hair was red, just as red as Gaara's actually and her face had odd make up, or what he thought was make up, on it. She wasn't dressed in ninja gear either, but rather long, flowing robes. The only things that looked even remotely ninja about her were the sword at her side and the weapons pouch at her waist.

"Can I help you Naruto-san?" He jumped and looked up. He could feel her gaze on him.

"Why do you wear that white thing?" The woman just smiled.

"Because I'm blind." His mouth fell open and he stared, awestruck. Everyone who wasn't on Shikamaru's team did the same thing, except maybe for Gai, Kakashi, Kurenai and Ebisu.

"Why are you a shinobi then?! I mean...if you're blind then-" his words were cut off by something poking his neck. He hadn't even seen her move! First she was sitting there and he thought he was talking to her but now, she was at his back with a kunai at his throat! She leaned down by his ear and he shivered.

"Does that answer your question Naruto-san?" He just nodded. She stepped away, putting the kunai she'd drawn back into her pouch and walked back to her seat. She wasn't even using a blind walking stick. How odd.

"How did you know where I was, other than the sound of my voice?"

"Some secrets should not be told Naruto-san, am I correct?" She looked from him to Sai and back again. He just growled and stopped talking, crossing his hands over his chest in a very Naruto pout. Sakura and Ino burst out into a fit of giggles and Kakashi just patted the blonds shoulder.

"What are we waiting for?" Everyone looked to Sasuke. Everyone knew he wasn't hanging on by much. In the time he'd come back, everyone came to the sense he didn't care about anyone more than those two babies. Of course, it hadn't been kept so top secret the Rookie nine didn't know but it was amazing Tsunade let Ebisu's team know.

"Rest Uchiha. Unlike you, the rest of us just had a hell of a treck through Grass and with the weather, we deserve it." Sasuke was up and ready to plant a fist in Shikamaru's face but was stopped by Ebisu's hand.

"We need to move out." Shikamaru looked up and let a frown pass his face.

"If I wasn't ordered to I wouldn't even be here. I don't even like you and it's utterly troublesome."

"And since he's gotten us this far without any casualties, I think taking his advice would be the best course of action." Sasuke looked to Neji and growled. He couldn't do anything but sit down.

Over the next two hours however, Sasuke underwent a series of grueling questions. Shikamaru was thorough in what he asked and when he sat down, looking at a map, he started drawing with a red marker. When the plan was made up, and where the could almost garuntee Orochimaru's hide out was, they moved out. Ebisu and Kakashi worked out a deal, Sasuke had come with Ebisu's team this far, it was time Kakashi took him for the rest of the mission, then, on the way back home, he'd be handed back over. The copy nin didn't argue but took Sasuke rather willingly. It was confusing because when they'd first been sent on the mission, no one on their team wanted Sasuke and now...Ebisu shook his head and his team departed for the west.

When Team Kakashi got to their destined point, they looked around. Nothing. They started searching but were stopped by foot steps. They scattered into the trees surrounding them.

"It's alright. It's just us." Shikamaru's voice. They just watched. Shikamaru came out, hands up and soon followed everyone else. Kakashi surveyed them and sure enough, it was them. Slowly, the five of them came out of the trees and looked at the others.

"There isn't anything here."

"To the eye." Everyone looked over to the strange woman and watched, as she walked passed them. In the blink of one eye span she'd formed eighteen seals and slammed her hands to the ground. They all watched as, out of nowhere, a giant door seemed to appear.

"How did she-" Ino held up her hand and walked up towards the woman.

"Thank you Tashiro." The woman just nodded and waited for everyone to catch up, then she started walking.

"There are traps everywhere that will alert those below so watch your step." Everyone just nodded. Naruto frowned. What was up with Tashiro? How did she know all of this? Shaking his head, he continued forward, watching his step as he went...but it didn't help. He'd tripped a switch. Everyone turned to stare at him and scattered. He was left to fend off a serpent on his lonesome. A big one. Very big.

"I don't like snakes."

"I don'ttt like humanssss." Naruto just stared up at the thing and frowned. It was familiar somehow. Shaking his head, he circled around the thing. The fight started and right off the bat, Naruto had almost been poisoned. When he was getting his ass kicked by the thing and it's tail, Tashiro stepped in.

"That's enough." The snake looked to her, bowed and dissipated. Naruto just stared at where the snake had been and then looked to the blind shinobi. He stood and waltzed right over to her.

"Why didn't you do that in the first place huh? I was almost poisoned! And how did you know that snake would leave when you told it too? What aren't you telling us lady?" He had started poking her in the chest. A very ample chest at that. When he was face first in the mud, she leaned over, grinding his hand behind him at a very odd angle.

"Do not touch me Naruto-san." She let him go, stepped over him and walked forward. Sakura helped him up.

"Who is she?" Sakura shrugged but the look on her face said she was wondering as well.

Visitors. Oh it had been so long since there had been anyone in this hell hole. Quite literally. With a push to his glasses, Kabuto headed down the long, seemingly endless hall way and stopped at a wall. After a few seals, a door appeared and he walked inside. The number in the scroll from grass had put the number at twenty one. That was a lot of shinobi for two babies. The one however, was expected. Looking around, the silver haired shinobi took off his white coat, tossed it aside, grabbed up his pen, notebook and tape recorder. With things in hand, he headed off to the other side of the room. This, was his private place. His secret haven away from Orochimaru and the sannin's every day demands.

Sitting on a rollie stool, Kabuto set his things on the table in front of him and rubbed the back of his neck. He hated kids. Ever since they'd been brought he'd been on babysitting duty as well as research. He'd had no time for his own private research. It annoyed him but he said nothing. He always said nothing. He valued his life and research a lot more than saying something stupid to someone who could very well snap his neck without a thought. Granted...it might heal over a few days time, but it was the simple point.

Picking up his pen and opening his notebook, Kabuto switched on a small light and rolled a little ways to the microscope he'd been looking down. With his free hand, he switched on his recorder and played the last bit of information he'd reordered.

The structures have started to deteriorate. If transfer is made, life expectancy can be estimated for one year. If deterioration speeds or does not remain constant, problems such as sickness involving cancers, blood diseases or muscle, nerve or tissue damages could occur. Damages in cells might be repairable but the cancers will take their toll on the host body and eventually kill it. If the parasite is not removed or transfered to another host in time, it will die as well. He stopped the tape and started writing down his findings under the scope.

He lost himself in his work only stopping when the pains in his left arm got to be too great. Then, he just rolled away from the table and over to a small fridge. There he pulled out a filled syrenge from the tray on the first shelf, uncapped it and proceeded to give the shot to himself. After a few moments, his left arm started to shake uncontrollably and the pain was almost unbearable but it subsided and he was left gasping, sweat starting to bead at his temples. Throwing the used syringe away and closing the fridge, Kabuto wheeled back to his table and continued his research. It seemed he needed to find a way to heal himself quicker than he expected. His research was no where near that limit. He just hoped his body held out until he could find the answer.

Well, not only hadn't they accounted for the maze and how many booby traps were in there, they hadn't accounted for all the snakes, pit holes full of spikes, poison gasses, trip switches that held more than a fair share of kunai and other weapons and last but not least, they hadn't accounted for getting caught in knock out gas and put into cells. Separate cells. Twenty one people in twenty one cells. And then some. Just the shinobi alone made twenty one, that wasn't counting the other prisoners that were in cells around them.

Then, they were all still suffering the lethargic affects of the knock out gas so trying to get out was going to be difficult. The only one out of their group that didn't seem to be as heavily under the effects was Naruto, but mostly everyone knew why. He was sitting against the back wall of his cell, rubbing his eyes and looking around. Everything as blurry and he got the feeling if he stood, it would make him dizzy, so he just sat. While he sat though, his brain started working. He was glad of that, at least something was working if not his body at the moment. Reaching over, Naruto touched the bars. Chakra infused. He looked over to Sai. His teammate was still out like a light. Well there went that idea.

Naruto's gaze caught sight of Sakura and noticed her hands were glowing. He couldn't make out what exactly she was doing because of the blurriness in his eyes but he got the feeling she might have been removing the toxins from her system. Sure enough, when he heard her cough she sat straight up and shook her head.

When his vision started to clear, Naruto moved towards the front of his cage and looked out. Other than the cells and a few camera's around them, there was not other security. He wondered if the camera's had sound? Blue eyes moving around the room, he spotted Kakashi. He was moving around but his movements were sluggish. This was not good. Looking back to Sakura, he noticed her at the front of her cage looking around as well.

"Sakura!" She looked over at him. He mouthed, 'cameras' and pointed. She nodded. Peeling off her gloves, she set both hands to the floor and forced chakra down. Naruto watched as the earth itself came up and encompassed the cameras and then a cracking noise told him they were shattered. When he looked back, Sakura was making motions with her hands, still not trusting sound. He just nodded and started looking around. He found a few pebbles but not as many as he needed. Picking one up, he aimed and tossed it right at Kakashi's head. The shinobi caught it and he nodded. The next went towards Sai. His teammate however, did not catch it. It bounced off his head. When it hit, Sai sat up and started swinging. Naruto frowned and quirked a brow. Sai fought in his sleep? How odd.

When Sai came to his senses he looked around at the glares directed at him. For the first time since they had met him, Sai had a little coloring in his cheeks. Neglecting to be shocked, Naruto tossed the last pebble he had. It went right for Tashiro. It hit her, not in the head, but bounced off her breast. Her head snapped up and he could have swore he watched her eyes glow under the small veil she wore.

"Who threw that?"

"I did."

"And me."

"Over here."

"Hello." She looked around and it seemed a thought passed across her face but she just nodded and rested against the back wall of her cell. Naruto turned to his team and started making hand signs. It was a good thing he'd at least retained one thing at the academy. Yes, his clone technique sucked horribly but that didn't mean he didn't half way pay attention to other things. Not to mention, all that time with Jiraya had to pay off in some ways didn't it?

Once a plan was made, with many interruptions from groans and grunts around them, Sakura nodded and went to work. Forcing chakra to her hands, the pink haired kunoichi grabbed onto the bars, ignoring the shocks she was getting and started yanking them apart. Once there was enough room for her to slip through, she leeched the chakra from her bars. It made her shutter. Once she was through, she headed straight for Tashiro's cage and did the same. She helped the woman out and quickly, very quietly, explained to her the plan. It took a very long time but eventually, everyone was out of their cages. It took even longer for everyone to come to their senses but it happened.

When everyone was finally free, they looked to the last cage. The one they hadn't opened. Sakura looked around her and then to Naruto. He just shrugged. She sighed, a small give of breath and nothing more, then walked over and proceeded to let Sasuke out. He'd been awake, watching them, his eyes the only thing giving away his fury. The teams moved out, Sasuke falling into step with Team Kakashi. The teams split up. They were sure there was a way to get through the compound silently, hoping it took just a little longer for whoever was watching their cages to figure out his camera's were dead. They'd been lucky enough to have as much time as they did because they needed it but they were all sure there wouldn't be anymore lucky breaks.

Team Gai headed for the east part of the compound, Team Kurenai the west. Team Ebisu headed for the south and Team Azuma the north. Team Kakashi's job: find the labs. Team Kakashi didn't have to go very far however. It seemed they were around the labs. Why would holding cells be around the labs? None of them wanted their questions answered.

They encountered some resistance but it was stopped immediately. But somewhere, a red alert was set off. Naruto and Sasuke both came out with a curse and looked around. People were running everywhere, files in their hands along with other things that could have been considered valuable. While they'd been searching the labs, they hadn't found anything that would have led them to the twins. When the coast was clear outside of their last stop, they all walked out and to the left. It seemed they were walking for a long time down and endless hall when something caught Kakashi's attention. He stopped and surveyed a wall. He frowned, his eyes crinkling with it. He motioned Sasuke over and they both activated their sharingan.

Everyone backed away quickly however when out of no where a door seemed to appear from the wall. They all stayed to the shadows and watched. Kabuto, they watched, mouths hanging low, appeared out of the wall, a white coat in his arm, notebook, pen and recorder in the other. He looked around, his eyes narrowing. He sent out a flare of chakra but he couldn't see anything. Sealing the room up, he turned and walked away. When they were sure he was gone, Kakashi walked straight to the door and repeated the seals Kabuto made. it wouldn't open. he tried again. After the third time, a voice had them stopping in their tracks.

"Unless you can mask your chakra to become mine, that door isn't opening." They turned slowly and watched as Kabuto stepped out of the shadows behind them. In his arms was a sleeping baby. sasuke rushed him but stopped in mid step as Kabuto held up a hand. Chakra formed around his fingertip and he placed it against Aito's neck. "You wouldn't want anything bad to happen to this little bundle of annoyance now would you Uchiha-san?"

"Put. Her. Down."

"I'm sorry Uchiha-san, I can't do that. Your days of instilling fear throughout the ranks are over." He just smiled and seemingly dissipated into the shadows. "If you want to see your precious babies then I suggest you head to the underground room. Go out of this hall the same way you came, take a left and then head down the stairs. I'll see you there." His laugh sent a chill down Sakura's spine.

There were no questions and ther were no arguments as everyone headed in the direction Kabuto gave. As they moved, they were joined by three of the other four teams. The only one missing was Team Azuma. No one thought about where they could be or what might have happened to them, they just went down the stairs. The stairs went on forever, and it was sad when even Tenten started joining in with Naruto's endless complaining. Four hundred stairs. That was a lot to everyone, except Gai and Lee. Of course. They considered it training.

The hall opened up immediately upon reaching the last step and the group was walking into an over large, cavernous room. There were bars around it, almost like one giant holding cell, or many of them joined together. It was different from the ones they were in and none of them wanted to ask what was being held in such cages. Clapping from behind them brought the groups attention spinning around. Everyone gasped. There stood, in all his unholy glory, Orochimaru. Sasuke hissed and stepped forward.

"I killed you."

"You thought you killed me." Orochimaru tsked and waved a finger. "Did you really think you could kill me Sasuke-kun?" His laugh made more than a couple people shutter. "I don't die that easily!" He hissed and looked at the group, golden eyes moving over them each, one by one. "It seems Tsunade wasn't in the mood for games." Sasuke stepped forward but Orochimaru held up a hand. "Kabuto."

"Hai orochimaru-sama." Kabuto stepped out of the shadows, two little bundles of sleeping baby in his arms. Both hands were glowing and Sasuke stopped. Sasuke gritted his teeth, eyes never leaving his girls.

"Give me back my babies." Finally looking over to the snake bastard, Sasuke's eyes swirled. Orochimaru had the sense to look down.

"Ah ah ah Sasuke-kun. With a snap of my fingers, their little lives are ended." The Uchiha growled and everyone watched his eyes turn and phase back to black. A noise at the other end of the cavern caught everyone's attention. Eyes turned.

Tashiro stepped forward, followed by Shikamaru, Chouji and Ino. They looked roughed up but Tashiro had her arms crossed over her chest and was smiling.

"Some trick, that. I could have swore I would have been eaten but you under estimated my team." Said team stepped forward.

"How did you get here? You were dead!" Orochimaru hissed at Tashiro and she just shrugged.

"We all have our secrets Orochimaru-san. Mine, are none of your concern." Team Azuma stepped forward another step and Shikamaru melted into the ground. Ino put her hands up and Chouji's body seemed to bulk a little more. Within seconds, Kabuto was releaved of both twins thanks to Shikamaru's shadow jutsu, Ino was trying her damnedest to invade Kabuto's mind and Chouji was holding both babies in his hands.

"I saw you killed!"

"You saw what I wanted you to see." Her gaze passed Orochimaru and looked straight at Kurenai. "Kurenai-san?" The woman nodded and started forming seals. Tashiro's gaze turned to Gai. He nodded and followed suit. The same happened with Ebisu and Kakashi. "The next time you sneak into Konoha Orochimaru-san, make sure you don't leave a trail ne?" He hissed and formed seals of his own.

Naruto and Sakura watched in almost abstract horror. Their hands moved faster than lightning. All three of them made the same seals, bit their fingers and hit the ground.

"What do you want brat?"

"Nani Sakura-san?"

"Thisss had better be goodddd Orochimaru." Tashiro just started laughing. The giant snake turned. "Tasssshiro."

"Manda. How nice to see you!"

"What do you wannt humann?"

"You're still serving that old bag of bones are you?"

"He servesss meee." The snake hissed and bent his head down to sniff the woman. She just pat him.

"Uhu. That's not how he sees it. Say, could I ask you a favor?"

"If there are virginal sssscarficesss involveddd."

"Sorry old friend no sacrfices."

"Then I cannott help you."

"I see." The snake backed away and looked to the Master Toad and the Giant Slug.

"Sssnakesss eat ssslugssss."

"Toads eat snakes."

"I eat...OHH!" Sakura just patted her summon and looked over to Naruto. He was staring at Orochimaru, eyes phasing between blue and red.

Tashiro sighed and walked out into the middle of the summons. She took up a pose and started forming seals. Kakashi, Kurenai, Ebisu and Gai all stepped forward and surrounded Tashiro. Naruto and Sakura looked down at them for a moment.

"Let the battle begin ne?" All in one, swift movement, the five in the middle sent chakra bursting to every limb in their body and let it flow to the ground. Orochimaru let out a loud curse and rushed at them. Manda was bounced away. Naruto and Sakura looked up to Orochimaru and they rushed him.

Kabuto was chasing Chouji around, trying to retreave the twins but it seemed that even though he was large, he was also very fast. Odd. Ino was out cold and Shikamaru was guarding her body. The rest of the rookie nine went to help Chouji. There was nothing they could do about Orochimaru. They might just get crushed. Or eaten. Mostly crushed.

The med nin finally came to the conclusion he was outnumbered and frowned. Out of his coat pocket he pulled a small device. On it was a giant red and green button. He pressed the red button. Everyone froze, even Orochimaru, but it was only for a moment. The bars around the room started sliding open and noises belonging to large creatures started falling from around them. Orochimaru cursed and retreated. Kabuto rushed Chouji and grabbed one of the babies. Chouji was forced to let go of her for fear of tearing her in half.

As quickly as the battle started, it was over. Orochimaru and Kabuto disappeared. No last words, nothing but a screaming baby in their grasps. Sasuke screamed. Actually screamed in what sounded like pure agony as he watched his child fade out into nothing. Tashiro cursed something elegant and yelled at everyone to gather around her. Eyes surrounded the group of shinobi, some red, some black, all of them glowing. The eyes were connected to giant, hulking creatures that would remind someone of a patchwork quilt.

Everyone except Sasuke had complied with Tashiro's hollered order. Kakashi was forced to hold the fury ridden Uchiha as Tashiro formed a few more seals and stomped on the ground with a foot. The creatures attacked in that instant and there were a few screams of horror and then...nothing. Someone formed a light and everyone looked to see Tashiro holding her arms crossed over her head. Her entire body was glowing a faint blue color. Sweat started pouring down her brown and a loud boom forced her to her knee. Every muscle in her body was strained as a series of loud booms sounded around what looked to be an enclosure.

"Transferring would be nice right about now ne?" Even her voice was strained. After she spoke, everyone seemed to start moving and she let out a small, hard breath. A series of poofs sounded and the party started depleting to nothing. Tashiro's brows drew together and she fell to both knees. Eventually, her hands fell and she was left on hands and knees, panting, trying to stay awake. With whatever she had left, she transported herself.
