What Dreams May Come
Chapter Ten
“Get in.” stated Tsunade to a baffled Sasuke, gesturing to the open car door.
“No”
“What did you say, brat?” she growled, her hand clenching in a fist as a vein started to pulse in her temple.
“Now, now, Tsunade-hime. The boy is confused and you aren’t helping. I know you are worried about Naruto but acting like this isn’t helping the boy.” said Jiraiya in an attempt to appease the frustrated woman.
Sasuke perked up at the mention of Naruto. Did these two know where Naruto was? Why were they worried? His eyes narrowed and he focused his complete attention on the two. Tsunade glared for a moment before releasing a heavy sigh. Leaning against the car, she gestured for Jiraiya to take over.
“Sasuke, did you know that Naruto left town?” asked Jiraiya.
Sasuke’s eyes widened, his cool exterior cracking. Left town? For good? Was it because of him? Sasuke had felt an ache in his chest all day. It had driven him to attempt to find Naruto. Hearing this, the ache flared to life once again. He fought to keep from reaching up to rub the area of his chest from which the ache stemmed.
“No, I didn’t.” answered Sasuke.
“He didn’t explain exactly what happened but we have watched over that boy since he was fourteen. We have seen his heartbreak and suffering. And to be honest, we are fucking tired of it.” said Jiraiya.
“He’s an idiot but he has waited a long time for you. I want you to bring me back my gaki. The person he is now is a mere shadow of who he should be. And gods help me, you are the only one that can do it.” sighed Tsunade.
“What do you mean? There more to it than that.” asked Sasuke. He was so confused. The conversation contained hints of something much deeper than what was said. These two individuals seemed to have a hidden agenda that went far beyond simply helping out a friend with his love life. Sasuke just couldn’t figure out what it was. What game were they playing?
“Its not our place to reveal all of Naruto’s secrets. If he chooses to tell you then that’s his business. We just need you to keep an open mind with him.” stated Jiraiya.
“That’s why we pulled you from class. Naruto left for a place he has hidden away. I don’t want him to be alone and the two of you need to talk. He wouldn’t welcome us, but I’m sure he would welcome your presence. Please are you willing to let us take you to him?” pleaded Tsunade.
She would have rather just stuffed the brat in the back of her car and dropped him off, hog tied on Naruto’s doorstep. However, in this case, a bit of tact might be wise. She was sure that neither would appreciate the gesture. Though, if hog tying Sasuke would bring back her spirited little brother, she would do it in a heart beat. She missed her Naruto desperately and damn it, it was about time he stopped moping around and started living again.
“I suppose…” answered Sasuke. He was still unsure about this whole deal but for some reason, the ache in his chest wouldn’t go away. He really needed to talk with the blonde. Desperately needed to talk to him. He wasn’t about to let those two know that, though.
“Great, get in.” she said.
“If I’m going to be away for a few days, can we stop by my apartment so I can pack a bag?” asked Sasuke.
Tsunade seemed to consider the request. Jiraiya snickered, she had been so focused on Naruto that she hadn’t considered that Sasuke would need clothes. He was sure Naruto would love to keep him naked in bed but he wasn’t sure if those two were up to that point yet.
“Fine, but don’t take too long, we have a long drive ahead of us and Naruto already has an hour on us.” she said as she pulled the car from the school grounds.
Sasuke let himself into his apartment. Grabbing a gym bag from the closet, he stuffed a pair of khaki pants and a pair of jeans into the bag along with a couple of lightweight shirts and toiletries. Pausing at the kitchen, he grabbed a few bottles of water and some granola bars, in case the old couple forgot to feed him. He had no idea how long this trip was going to be and thought it better to be prepared than not. Shoving his cell into his pocket, Sasuke locked the apartment and trotted down the stairs towards where Tsunade and Jiraiya were waiting.
“Took you long enough.” growled Tsunade.
Sasuke just ignored her and settled himself in the back seat. She sure was pushy. Yet another reason to dislike most women. Staring out the window, Sasuke felt his mind begin to drift. The passing of time seemed to fly by as the density of trees grew thicker, the deeper into rural Fire Country they went. Soon the highways faded into poorly maintained country roads. Sasuke’s thoughts remained with one person…Naruto.
“Hey, Sasuke?” asked Naruto.
“What is it dobe?” asked Sasuke as he sat down next to his lover.
Naruto grinned and settled himself on top of Sasuke, his thighs straddling his lover. Leaning down, Naruto pressed close until the two were nearly kissing, their breath mixing and mingling. Sasuke’s eyes became hooded and his breathing increased in tempo. Naruto sucked on Sasuke’s lower lip before kissing his way to a pink ear. Taking a deep breath, Naruto spoke.
“Take me out for ramen!”
Sasuke froze. Annoyance and lust mingled, and Sasuke grunted as he pushed Naruto off of him and stood.
“Hey, where are you going?” asked Naruto, a little pout forming.
“That’s just pathetic. Using sex to get me to take you out for ramen. That’s beneath you, Naruto.” snarled Sasuke.
“Sasuke…” whimpered Naruto.
Sasuke sighed. The blonde looked so despondent. His eyes held unshed tears and his lower lip was beginning to quiver. He really shouldn’t have snapped at him. He shouldn’t take his own frustration out on the blonde. Naruto had been acting a bit strange for the last few days and Sasuke didn’t want to push his lover anymore than necessary.
“Its fine Naruto. I guess I’m just a little disappointed that you felt you had to use such tactics on me after so long.” sighed Sasuke.
“I was just teasing, Sasuke. You know I love you. If you don’t want to go get ramen, its fine.” said Naruto.
“You know, sometimes you really act like a dobe.” smiled Sasuke.
“Do you forgive me?” asked Naruto.
“You know I can’t stay mad at you.”
Naruto nearly tackled Sasuke, burying his face in the pale neck. His body was shaking, Sasuke felt his eyes widen. Had it upset Naruto that much? It wasn’t like they hadn’t had fights before. This one was minor, all things considered.
“Naruto? What’s wrong?” whispered Sasuke, his hands coming up to rub the quivering body of the blonde.
“Its just…that look in your eyes. I thought you were going to leave me. I thought I would be all alone again.”
“You really are a dobe. I will never leave you. I don’t think you could survive without me to knock sense in you.” said Sasuke.
“I couldn’t. If you live to be one hundred, then I want to live to be one hundred minus one day so I don’t have to live a day with out you.” said Naruto.
“That has got to be the corniest thing I have ever heard. Where did you hear that?” laughed Sasuke.
“Hey, I read it somewhere and it was exactly how I feel about you.” said Naruto.
“You read something? I think this is a day for the record books. Naruto actually read something. The dead last student of his academy class actually read something.” teased Sasuke.
“YOU BASARD!” yelled Naruto, swinging a punch at Sasuke.
Sasuke effectively dodged the attack and dashed for the door, Naruto hot on his trail. Sasuke led Naruto through the streets of Konoha, not stopping until he reached the little ramen stand that Naruto loved so much. Naruto caught up to him and stopped as well.
“You wanted ramen, didn’t you?” asked Sasuke.
“Sasuke…”
“Idiot, come on lets eat so I can collect that payment you promised earlier.”
Naruto grew red in the face but settled next to Sasuke on the bench. Leaning against Sasuke, Naruto pressed his shoulder into his lover. All was forgiven.
“I want things to always be like this.” smiled Naruto, as he broke his chopsticks.
“Me too.” said Sasuke.
“Wake up, kid.” said Jiraiya.
Sasuke blinked. These dreams were driving him crazy. Some days he was so confused as to who he was. Which was the dream and which was the real? Both were beginning to merge together. They were coming much more frequent and that bothered Sasuke.
“Are we there?” asked Sasuke as he shook the last bit of dream from his mind.
“Almost. Naruto owns most of this land. And what he doesn’t own, Tsunade and I own through corporations.” answered Jiraiya.
Sasuke nodded and went back to staring outside. It was about two in the afternoon. They had been driving for at least four hours. The surroundings were deeply wooded and the road was made of dirt. Sasuke arched a brow. Dirt road? Just where were these two taking him?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Naruto sighed as he unlocked the gate. He had fenced in as much of his property as he could. The only way to Konoha was through this road which was located on his property. Pushing the gate open, Naruto pulled his SUV through before closing and locking it once more. Driving up the dirt road, Naruto parked his vehicle near the gates. He never drove any further. It felt almost like sacrilege and he was terrified of crashing into something. The remains of the village were in bad enough shape as it was.
Grabbing his duffle bag, Naruto flung it over his shoulder and began the walk through the main gates. His mind could still remember, in precise detail, how it had looked during his childhood. He had to fight not to throw up a hand to where the gate guards would be sitting. He could almost hear the hustle and bustle of the daily comings and goings of Konoha.
Making his way down the streets, Naruto passed by the decrepit stone buildings. Any that were made of wood had long since rotted away. The places that mattered to him were the only places that he would repair and rebuild. Hokage Tower, Ichiraku ramen stand, the bridge where Team Seven had met before each mission, and…the Uchiha manor.
Naruto stopped before the enormous house that he and Sasuke had made into a home. It looked exactly the same as it had when he and Sasuke had lived there. Naruto made sure. The only adjustments he made was the installation of a self supporting generator, which he replaced every few years, and any other minor details such as wiring and plumbing in order to make the place self sufficient. The furniture was always self designed and specially ordered. The place was literally exactly as it had been. Naruto was meticulous about this. It was one of the projects that had kept him sane through the years.
Walking through the rooms, he removed the white sheets to keep the dust from ruining the furniture. Tossing them in the wash room, which also contained a modern washer and dryer, Naruto grabbed his duffle and stepped into his and Sasuke’s room. He couldn’t bear to call it just his room. Grabbing the mattress from the bed, Naruto pushed it outside to air out for the few remaining hours of the day.
Slowly, he made his way through the rooms, cataloging what needed replacing and what would just need touch ups. He would make another visit in a few weeks to implement the adjustments but he could do the touch ups while he was here.
Grabbing a fishing pole and a bucket, Naruto made his way towards the small pond behind the house. He always kept it stocked with various fish. He had best get dinner ready first. He could worry about repairs later. Not that he was really hungry anyway but he knew he would never hear the end of it from Kyuubi if he didn’t keep himself healthy.
Naruto had thought himself pretty smart and tried to starve himself to death after he found he couldn’t poison, drown or cut himself. After all, Kyuubi could heal his body but if he had no nourishment then the damn fox was shit out of luck. Naruto wasn’t so lucky. As his own chakra waned due to malnutrition, he became less and less able to control the fox. Kyuubi took it upon himself to take control of Naruto and pretty much force fed him. Needless to say, Naruto was not happy. So much for outsmarting the fox. After that, Naruto grudgingly ate. He knew if he didn’t, Kyuubi would just take over and force him to.
Throwing out his line, Naruto sat on the small dock and dangled his feet in the warm water. This was the very spot that Sasuke had learned his very first Uchiha family fire jutsu. Sasuke had told him the story once and surprisingly, Naruto had cried for him. It seemed cruel to expect so much from a child.
Time seemed to slow to a crawl. A few fish later, Naruto began to doze. Leaning against one of the poles, Naruto allowed the laziness of the afternoon to sooth his aching soul. Being in this place was like a balm to him. One would have thought that it would be detrimental to his mental health but Naruto wasn’t one that followed the normal way of things. Packing up his gear and grabbing the fish, he started towards the house.
Freezing mid step and cocking a head to the side, Naruto felt warning bells go off in his head. Someone was trespassing. Sticking a few shuriken in his pockets and grabbing his katana, Naruto’s hands flashed through a series of signs and he was gone in a puff of smoke, leaving and empty room.
Sasuke stepped out of the car and looked around. A strange feeling churned through his stomach. This place felt so familiar and yet he knew he had never been here before. Decrepit stone walls guarded what looked like the remains of an ancient town.
“Jiraiya…” said Tsunade, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“I know Tsunade-hime.” said Jiraiya, placing his arm around her shoulders.
“What is this place?” asked Sasuke.
“This is the remains of the hidden village of Konoha. The village hidden in the leaves.” said Jiraiya.
“Jiraiya, we need to be going.” whispered Tsunade.
“Yes I suppose you are right. Sasuke, this is as far as we go. If you take this main street and continue until you see a large intersection, from that intersection take a right and continue down the road until you see a well kept house. That’s your destination. Though, I imagine Naruto will find you before you get that far. Remember what I said, keep an open mind with him. You are going to need it.” said Jiraiya.
With those words, Tsunade and Jiraiya climbed back into the car and drove off down the dirt road. Sasuke stood watching their car disappear. ‘I can’t believe I let those two talk me into this. There will be hell to pay if Naruto isn’t here.’ thought Sasuke to himself.
Grabbing his bag and pulling a cap on, Sasuke stepped through the gateway, unconsciously setting off alarm jutsus that Naruto had placed there. He slowly walked down the street, taking in the various remains of buildings. He noticed that the large tower beneath the mountainside was in surprisingly good repair. It didn’t look like most of the other buildings. In fact, it looked like it wasn’t more than a few years old. Looking onto the mountainside, Sasuke saw the carving of what looked like faces. They were so worn that most of the finer detail had been eaten away by time.
After taking the right at the intersection, the feeling of having been here before continued to plague Sasuke. Suddenly a shuriken planted itself in the ground in front of Sasuke. His heart stopped and he stumbled back tripping over his own feet and falling to the ground.
“Who’s there?” he called out.
“Sasuke?”
“Naruto?”
Naruto jumped from the tree and landed in front of his reincarnated lover. His brow was crinkled up in confusion. Sasuke was here?
Sasuke glanced up at Naruto. He was dressed in jeans and shirt but strapped to his back was a large katana. He looked more like a warrior than a teacher. What the hell was all about the attacking? Was he into something illegal?
“Sasuke, what the fuck? I didn’t recognize you with that cap on. I could have hurt you. What are you doing here? How did you get here?” asked Naruto rapidly as his hands checked over Sasuke to make sure he wasn’t hurt.
“I’m fine. You just startled me.” said Sasuke.
“What the hell are you doing here?” asked Naruto as he pulled Sasuke to his feet.
“I was worried about you.”
“Huh?”
“Do I need to talk slower so a dobe like you can understand? I…was…worried.”
“Heh.” laughed Naruto, bringing up his hand to rub his neck. A blush spread across his cheeks. Sasuke had come to him because he was worried. His Sasuke was worried about him. His heart leaped with joy. Then reality set in.
“Umm, how did you find me?” asked Naruto.
“Tsunade and Jiraiya pulled me from class and drove me here. Now its my turn. What the fuck were you doing throwing a sharp object at me? Are you an idiot? What if you had injured me?” growled Sasuke.
“Sorry Sasuke. I have to take care of this place. Its all I have.” said Naruto.
“Well, I’m here and they said you had a house up here somewhere. You are stuck with me until you leave. So, lead the way.” ordered Sasuke.
Naruto blinked. Sasuke here with him…alone. Now that the shock was wearing off, the actual situation that he was in began to sink in. The gods must either like him or hate him. He wasn’t sure which at this moment though. The vote was in the air. Sighing in defeat, Naruto led the way towards the Uchiha manor.
Sasuke gaped as they approached a large building. It was an ancient style of architecture but attractive. The building itself was in good repair although the hedges were slightly over grown. Again the strong sense of familiarity pressed hard on Sasuke’s subconscious. It was so strong in fact, that Sasuke stumbled against Naruto, his eyes never leaving the building.
This change in Sasuke didn’t go unnoticed by Naruto. Nor was it unnoticed by Kyuubi, who decided this was the perfect time to put his two cents in.
‘The soul remembers.’ Kyuubi said.
‘Shut up, I don’t want you butting in. I can barely think as is.’ said Naruto to himself.
‘Hmph, fine.’ grunted Kyuubi and settled back in his cage to watch the show.
“I, um, don’t have things clean yet so we will have to air out a mattress for you.” said Naruto as he opened the door and ushered Sasuke inside.
Sasuke took in the décor of the front room as he slid his shoes off in the foyer. It was a masculine style but it had a touch culture. The style was old but definitely attractive. Sasuke dropped his bag on the floor and walked through the rooms, trailing his fingers over everything he passed. He seemed lost in whatever little world that he was in.
Naruto was in near heart failure. His mind was still reeling with this turn of events. Sasuke was once again walking these halls. Sasuke was touching everything as if relearning every inch. Sasuke was…here.
Sasuke walked into the kitchen and froze. A small cough escaped his throat, which quickly turned into a snort, and then a full out laugh. He nearly doubled over in mirth. Naruto closed his eyes at the sound. The beautiful sound of Sasuke’s laugh. How many times had he dreamed of that sound? A thousand? A million?
“What’s so funny?” asked Naruto, his voice cracking slightly.
“What…what made…what made you paint the kitchen orange?” gasped out Sasuke after several moments.
“Hey, take that back. Orange is an awesome color.” smiled Naruto.
“Maybe if you are a dobe.” smirked Sasuke.
“I resent that.”
“Doesn’t make it any less true.”
Naruto felt his heart lift. This was how it should be. Grabbing the bag, he carried it down the hall, pausing before his room. He had to fight not to take the bag into the room that he and Sasuke had once shared. Taking one step forward, Naruto entered the guest bedroom and set about pushing that mattress out to air as well, while Sasuke explored the house.
Sasuke finished looking around and made his way towards the hall down which Naruto had disappeared. Pushing open a door, Sasuke walked into a room It was spacious and contained an ornate bed frame, several chests of drawers, and a large closet. Too large of a closet for one person. Tilting his head to the side, Sasuke wondered who’s room this was.
“What are you doing in here?” asked Naruto.
“Sorry, I was just looking. Who’s room is this?”
“Mine. I’ve set you up in the next one over and put the mattress out to air for a while. I was just about to start dinner.” said Naruto.
Seeing Sasuke in this room brought back memories. Most of them with an adult rating. He really didn’t need that now. Just the thought of Sasuke clutching the headboard while he pounded into him was enough to nearly send Naruto to his knees.
“Great, I’ll help” said Sasuke, stepping past Naruto and walking back towards the kitchen. Naruto breathed in deep as Sasuke passed, the natural scent saturated his nostrils and sent shivers down his body. This was definitely going to be a trying weekend, there was no doubt about it in Naruto‘s mind. Sighing, he made his way back towards the kitchen as well.
~Thank you for the reviews~
Gaara Yea I’m excited about writing more Itachi. I just love him =p
Xzanayu Sorry for the long wait. I had to give my other stories a little attention and take a little writing break.
Nickles well I didn’t want Tsunade to spill the beans and I don’t think Sasuke would believe her anyway. He will know all in good time but not til later.
satterb heh thanks for the praise, I am loving this story more and more with each chapter.
Akiru chan I try to update every three to four days but sometimes it just don’t happen or I need a break. I loved and hated your blood stained lillies story. Made me so sad at the end. But I’m one to talk. I think I have half my readers cursing me and the other half crying for Naruto.
angel I just hate that Itachi had to die in the manga. I pretty much stopped watching the anime after Naruto met Sasuke again after 3yrs. If Sasuke dies or goes completely evil I wont watch it. But if I find out Sasuke returns/ remains friends with Naruto ill watch it again…YES I AM A READ THE LAST CHAPTER FIRST TYPE OF PERSON! =p
sadie237 heh thanks. I liked the last chapter but not as much as I like this chapter. I was uncertain about Sasuke soloM b/c I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate but I really wanted it understood that its not that Sasuke isn’t attracted but its that he has a lot of feelings pulling him in different directions. His whole life has been turned on its ear so to speak.
Dacedarrien I’m sorry (T_T) and then I went and made you wait extra long for this chapter. I hope this one made up for it a little.
sharingan.swirl That’s what I am for. I had a reader once tell me that I write my characters like I know them more than just as an author but on a personal level.
AlysiaStorms well send an email to dbat@windstream.net and I will add you to the email list I have for ppl that want to be notified of updates. Thanks for reading and I hope you continue =D.
good chaos heh yea I love this story. Writing it makes me happy.
Sneakfox I know I made him so horrible but you have to consider all he has suffered. He is pretty much an emotional wreck. Now I have the weighty task of making sure Sasuke brings out the true colors of the Naruto we all know and love.
shadowphoenix143 Thanks for the review and I have added you to my email alert for the updates of this story. Keep reading and I look forward to more reviews from you.
AN: Took a few days break / worked on some of my other stories. Finished one so I’m happy about that and got another chapter on the other. Oh and the quote Naruto makes in the dream is from Winnie the Pooh and I don’t own that either. Its one of my favorite quotes of all time. ^^b Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this chapter.
Naruto sighed as he unlocked the gate. He had fenced in as much of his property as he could. The only way to Konoha was through this road which was located on his property. Pushing the gate open, Naruto pulled his SUV through before closing and locking it once more. Driving up the dirt road, Naruto parked his vehicle near the gates. He never drove any further. It felt almost like sacrilege and he was terrified of crashing into something. The remains of the village were in bad enough shape as it was.
Grabbing his duffle bag, Naruto flung it over his shoulder and began the walk through the main gates. His mind could still remember, in precise detail, how it had looked during his childhood. He had to fight not to throw up a hand to where the gate guards would be sitting. He could almost hear the hustle and bustle of the daily comings and goings of Konoha.
Making his way down the streets, Naruto passed by the decrepit stone buildings. Any that were made of wood had long since rotted away. The places that mattered to him were the only places that he would repair and rebuild. Hokage Tower, Ichiraku ramen stand, the bridge where Team Seven had met before each mission, and…the Uchiha manor.
Naruto stopped before the enormous house that he and Sasuke had made into a home. It looked exactly the same as it had when he and Sasuke had lived there. Naruto made sure. The only adjustments he made was the installation of a self supporting generator, which he replaced every few years, and any other minor details such as wiring and plumbing in order to make the place self sufficient. The furniture was always self designed and specially ordered. The place was literally exactly as it had been. Naruto was meticulous about this. It was one of the projects that had kept him sane through the years.
Walking through the rooms, he removed the white sheets to keep the dust from ruining the furniture. Tossing them in the wash room, which also contained a modern washer and dryer, Naruto grabbed his duffle and stepped into his and Sasuke’s room. He couldn’t bear to call it just his room. Grabbing the mattress from the bed, Naruto pushed it outside to air out for the few remaining hours of the day.
Slowly, he made his way through the rooms, cataloging what needed replacing and what would just need touch ups. He would make another visit in a few weeks to implement the adjustments but he could do the touch ups while he was here.
Grabbing a fishing pole and a bucket, Naruto made his way towards the small pond behind the house. He always kept it stocked with various fish. He had best get dinner ready first. He could worry about repairs later. Not that he was really hungry anyway but he knew he would never hear the end of it from Kyuubi if he didn’t keep himself healthy.
Naruto had thought himself pretty smart and tried to starve himself to death after he found he couldn’t poison, drown or cut himself. After all, Kyuubi could heal his body but if he had no nourishment then the damn fox was shit out of luck. Naruto wasn’t so lucky. As his own chakra waned due to malnutrition, he became less and less able to control the fox. Kyuubi took it upon himself to take control of Naruto and pretty much force fed him. Needless to say, Naruto was not happy. So much for outsmarting the fox. After that, Naruto grudgingly ate. He knew if he didn’t, Kyuubi would just take over and force him to.
Throwing out his line, Naruto sat on the small dock and dangled his feet in the warm water. This was the very spot that Sasuke had learned his very first Uchiha family fire jutsu. Sasuke had told him the story once and surprisingly, Naruto had cried for him. It seemed cruel to expect so much from a child.
Time seemed to slow to a crawl. A few fish later, Naruto began to doze. Leaning against one of the poles, Naruto allowed the laziness of the afternoon to sooth his aching soul. Being in this place was like a balm to him. One would have thought that it would be detrimental to his mental health but Naruto wasn’t one that followed the normal way of things. Packing up his gear and grabbing the fish, he started towards the house.
Freezing mid step and cocking a head to the side, Naruto felt warning bells go off in his head. Someone was trespassing. Sticking a few shuriken in his pockets and grabbing his katana, Naruto’s hands flashed through a series of signs and he was gone in a puff of smoke, leaving and empty room.
Sasuke stepped out of the car and looked around. A strange feeling churned through his stomach. This place felt so familiar and yet he knew he had never been here before. Decrepit stone walls guarded what looked like the remains of an ancient town.
“Jiraiya…” said Tsunade, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“I know Tsunade-hime.” said Jiraiya, placing his arm around her shoulders.
“What is this place?” asked Sasuke.
“This is the remains of the hidden village of Konoha. The village hidden in the leaves.” said Jiraiya.
“Jiraiya, we need to be going.” whispered Tsunade.
“Yes I suppose you are right. Sasuke, this is as far as we go. If you take this main street and continue until you see a large intersection, from that intersection take a right and continue down the road until you see a well kept house. That’s your destination. Though, I imagine Naruto will find you before you get that far. Remember what I said, keep an open mind with him. You are going to need it.” said Jiraiya.
With those words, Tsunade and Jiraiya climbed back into the car and drove off down the dirt road. Sasuke stood watching their car disappear. ‘I can’t believe I let those two talk me into this. There will be hell to pay if Naruto isn’t here.’ thought Sasuke to himself.
Grabbing his bag and pulling a cap on, Sasuke stepped through the gateway, unconsciously setting off alarm jutsus that Naruto had placed there. He slowly walked down the street, taking in the various remains of buildings. He noticed that the large tower beneath the mountainside was in surprisingly good repair. It didn’t look like most of the other buildings. In fact, it looked like it wasn’t more than a few years old. Looking onto the mountainside, Sasuke saw the carving of what looked like faces. They were so worn that most of the finer detail had been eaten away by time.
After taking the right at the intersection, the feeling of having been here before continued to plague Sasuke. Suddenly a shuriken planted itself in the ground in front of Sasuke. His heart stopped and he stumbled back tripping over his own feet and falling to the ground.
“Who’s there?” he called out.
“Sasuke?”
“Naruto?”
Naruto jumped from the tree and landed in front of his reincarnated lover. His brow was crinkled up in confusion. Sasuke was here?
Sasuke glanced up at Naruto. He was dressed in jeans and shirt but strapped to his back was a large katana. He looked more like a warrior than a teacher. What the hell was all about the attacking? Was he into something illegal?
“Sasuke, what the fuck? I didn’t recognize you with that cap on. I could have hurt you. What are you doing here? How did you get here?” asked Naruto rapidly as his hands checked over Sasuke to make sure he wasn’t hurt.
“I’m fine. You just startled me.” said Sasuke.
“What the hell are you doing here?” asked Naruto as he pulled Sasuke to his feet.
“I was worried about you.”
“Huh?”
“Do I need to talk slower so a dobe like you can understand? I…was…worried.”
“Heh.” laughed Naruto, bringing up his hand to rub his neck. A blush spread across his cheeks. Sasuke had come to him because he was worried. His Sasuke was worried about him. His heart leaped with joy. Then reality set in.
“Umm, how did you find me?” asked Naruto.
“Tsunade and Jiraiya pulled me from class and drove me here. Now its my turn. What the fuck were you doing throwing a sharp object at me? Are you an idiot? What if you had injured me?” growled Sasuke.
“Sorry Sasuke. I have to take care of this place. Its all I have.” said Naruto.
“Well, I’m here and they said you had a house up here somewhere. You are stuck with me until you leave. So, lead the way.” ordered Sasuke.
Naruto blinked. Sasuke here with him…alone. Now that the shock was wearing off, the actual situation that he was in began to sink in. The gods must either like him or hate him. He wasn’t sure which at this moment though. The vote was in the air. Sighing in defeat, Naruto led the way towards the Uchiha manor.
Sasuke gaped as they approached a large building. It was an ancient style of architecture but attractive. The building itself was in good repair although the hedges were slightly over grown. Again the strong sense of familiarity pressed hard on Sasuke’s subconscious. It was so strong in fact, that Sasuke stumbled against Naruto, his eyes never leaving the building.
This change in Sasuke didn’t go unnoticed by Naruto. Nor was it unnoticed by Kyuubi, who decided this was the perfect time to put his two cents in.
‘The soul remembers.’ Kyuubi said.
‘Shut up, I don’t want you butting in. I can barely think as is.’ said Naruto to himself.
‘Hmph, fine.’ grunted Kyuubi and settled back in his cage to watch the show.
“I, um, don’t have things clean yet so we will have to air out a mattress for you.” said Naruto as he opened the door and ushered Sasuke inside.
Sasuke took in the décor of the front room as he slid his shoes off in the foyer. It was a masculine style but it had a touch culture. The style was old but definitely attractive. Sasuke dropped his bag on the floor and walked through the rooms, trailing his fingers over everything he passed. He seemed lost in whatever little world that he was in.
Naruto was in near heart failure. His mind was still reeling with this turn of events. Sasuke was once again walking these halls. Sasuke was touching everything as if relearning every inch. Sasuke was…here.
Sasuke walked into the kitchen and froze. A small cough escaped his throat, which quickly turned into a snort, and then a full out laugh. He nearly doubled over in mirth. Naruto closed his eyes at the sound. The beautiful sound of Sasuke’s laugh. How many times had he dreamed of that sound? A thousand? A million?
“What’s so funny?” asked Naruto, his voice cracking slightly.
“What…what made…what made you paint the kitchen orange?” gasped out Sasuke after several moments.
“Hey, take that back. Orange is an awesome color.” smiled Naruto.
“Maybe if you are a dobe.” smirked Sasuke.
“I resent that.”
“Doesn’t make it any less true.”
Naruto felt his heart lift. This was how it should be. Grabbing the bag, he carried it down the hall, pausing before his room. He had to fight not to take the bag into the room that he and Sasuke had once shared. Taking one step forward, Naruto entered the guest bedroom and set about pushing that mattress out to air as well, while Sasuke explored the house.
Sasuke finished looking around and made his way towards the hall down which Naruto had disappeared. Pushing open a door, Sasuke walked into a room It was spacious and contained an ornate bed frame, several chests of drawers, and a large closet. Too large of a closet for one person. Tilting his head to the side, Sasuke wondered who’s room this was.
“What are you doing in here?” asked Naruto.
“Sorry, I was just looking. Who’s room is this?”
“Mine. I’ve set you up in the next one over and put the mattress out to air for a while. I was just about to start dinner.” said Naruto.
Seeing Sasuke in this room brought back memories. Most of them with an adult rating. He really didn’t need that now. Just the thought of Sasuke clutching the headboard while he pounded into him was enough to nearly send Naruto to his knees.
“Great, I’ll help” said Sasuke, stepping past Naruto and walking back towards the kitchen. Naruto breathed in deep as Sasuke passed, the natural scent saturated his nostrils and sent shivers down his body. This was definitely going to be a trying weekend, there was no doubt about it in Naruto‘s mind. Sighing, he made his way back towards the kitchen as well.
~Thank you for the reviews~
Gaara Yea I’m excited about writing more Itachi. I just love him =p
Xzanayu Sorry for the long wait. I had to give my other stories a little attention and take a little writing break.
Nickles well I didn’t want Tsunade to spill the beans and I don’t think Sasuke would believe her anyway. He will know all in good time but not til later.
satterb heh thanks for the praise, I am loving this story more and more with each chapter.
Akiru chan I try to update every three to four days but sometimes it just don’t happen or I need a break. I loved and hated your blood stained lillies story. Made me so sad at the end. But I’m one to talk. I think I have half my readers cursing me and the other half crying for Naruto.
angel I just hate that Itachi had to die in the manga. I pretty much stopped watching the anime after Naruto met Sasuke again after 3yrs. If Sasuke dies or goes completely evil I wont watch it. But if I find out Sasuke returns/ remains friends with Naruto ill watch it again…YES I AM A READ THE LAST CHAPTER FIRST TYPE OF PERSON! =p
sadie237 heh thanks. I liked the last chapter but not as much as I like this chapter. I was uncertain about Sasuke soloM b/c I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate but I really wanted it understood that its not that Sasuke isn’t attracted but its that he has a lot of feelings pulling him in different directions. His whole life has been turned on its ear so to speak.
Dacedarrien I’m sorry (T_T) and then I went and made you wait extra long for this chapter. I hope this one made up for it a little.
sharingan.swirl That’s what I am for. I had a reader once tell me that I write my characters like I know them more than just as an author but on a personal level.
AlysiaStorms well send an email to dbat@windstream.net and I will add you to the email list I have for ppl that want to be notified of updates. Thanks for reading and I hope you continue =D.
good chaos heh yea I love this story. Writing it makes me happy.
Sneakfox I know I made him so horrible but you have to consider all he has suffered. He is pretty much an emotional wreck. Now I have the weighty task of making sure Sasuke brings out the true colors of the Naruto we all know and love.
shadowphoenix143 Thanks for the review and I have added you to my email alert for the updates of this story. Keep reading and I look forward to more reviews from you.
