Kyusuke did his sandals up and looked at the clock. He’d put on his jeans and a navy blue shirt. “Dad! Come on, he’s gonna be here any minute!” The boy called almost as excited as his dad was nervous. This date served so many purposes for Kyusuke. Not only had the news sent Sai packing after giving his dad an ultimatum but it meant finally getting to see his dad interacting with Sasuke. The two seemed to intentionally avoid one another.

“Wow. I didn’t know you had anything blue!” Kyu grinned, his father exited the bathroom in a soft blue shirt and khaki cargo pants.

“Sakura bought it for me a couple years ago.” Naruto chuckled. “Are you sure about this Kyu? You don’t have to come.”

“Are you kidding? And let him be alone with you?! No way. I’m gonna protect you.” The tiny raven gave his father a pointed look.

Naruto laughed and shook his head. “You know I can handle myself kiddo. I’m a ninja and future Hokage.”

“You’re too nice Dad.” Kyusuke shrugged. Sighing Naruto just shook his head again at his son. When the knock sounded at the door, Kyusuke swung it open and grinned up at Sasuke.

“Hey Chibi, are you ready?” Sasuke stepped in and swallowed seeing Naruto in the soft blue shirt which seemed to bring out the blue in his eyes. “Naruto you look…”

“You say beautiful and I’m kicking you out.” He crossed his arms warning Sasuke.

“Good. You look good.” Sasuke blinked, quickly changing what he was about to say. “Glad I didn’t bring those flowers.”

“Yeah, you do know I’m not a girl right? Besides, Kyusuke is allergic to most flowers.” Grabbing his keys Naruto ushered everyone out and looked at Sasuke expectantly. “So where are we going Teme?”

“There is a street fair in the Aburame district. I thought it would be interesting.” His eyes widened as Kyusuke started bouncing. “Did you give him sugar?”

“What? No! I only give him sugar when he’s going to your place or to school, I’m not crazy.” Naruto followed Sasuke down the stairs taking Kyusuke’s hand. As they walked down the streets an awkward silence fell over the group. The little boy could only take so much before he was asking questions.

“How did you two get together?” He looked up at his dad.

“We were put on the same Genin team, team 7 and Kakashi was our sensei.” Naruto promptly answered.

Sasuke smirked, “Hn, we didn’t exactly like one another. In fact we hated one another.”

“We were rivals but we were still comrades.” Naruto responded indignantly.

“True, we did work well together. We didn’t even have to speak to work together.” Sasuke commented looking ahead.

Naruto laughed. “We did try to die for one another. You cried.” Naruto snickered.

“I did not cry and you were lying on the ground covered in blood.” Sasuke stiffened. Kyusuke’s head moved back and forth as if he were watching a tennis match.

“Who made the first move?” He asked suddenly.

Sasuke laughed outright, a sound that obviously shocked Naruto. “Your dad kissed me in class at the academy.”

“Nee!! Sasuke that’s not true. I was bumped into you. You’re the one who puckered up, Teme!” Naruto hollered face flushed.

“That was my first kiss.” Black eyes looked at Naruto from the corner of his eye. Feeling satisfaction spread through his body when Naruto flushed for a different reason.

“Mine too.” He mumbled. Kyusuke watched with something akin to awe. He’d never really seen his father like this. He seemed unguarded like he was relaxed and happy. His dad was a typically happy person, he could always see the bright side of things but this was different. His dad seemed different. Sasuke was different too. He was less gloomy.

They made it to the festival as the sun set and the lanterns lit the street. Venders lined the paths with all sorts of sweets, foods, and gifts. To one end was a small game area where you could win prizes. “Can we go play!?” Kyusuke bounced in excitement his eyes taking in everything.

“Sure.” Sasuke let his hand be taken and he looked over his shoulder at a smiling Naruto who was following at a slower pace. The first game had Sasuke throwing miniature kunai at a target. Each ring had a value and the accumulated value won prizes of various size and worth.

“Oh come one Teme! I can do better than that.” Naruto stepped up and before he could reach his wallet Sasuke had plunked down the coin.

“Then you try.” Sasuke challenged. Naruto scooped up the five kunai and threw each, hitting various places on the target.

Scowling at the target Naruto gave it a weird look. “There is no way. I didn’t even aim at that side.” He muttered letting Kyusuke pick what plushie he wanted.

As they walked away Sasuke laughed. “It’s rigged Naruto. To make it as hard as it could be. There are probably magnets strategically placed around the target.” The two men were gravitating to one another when Kyusuke forced himself between them and smiled up innocently.

“Let’s play that one!” He pulled his dad by the hand, this time toward a game where he had to land clay disks on a plate to win a gold fish. All three of them managed to land a disk, Kyusuke landing his disk on one of the smallest plates. This won him a fish bowl along with his gold fish.

“I’m gonna name him Sai.” Kyu decided sitting at a table while his dad got them a drink. Looking up at Sasuke he grinned. “Can I keep Sabaku at your house?” Sasuke raised a brow at his son.

“Why Sabaku?” He held up the bag to look at the fish which would be residing in his home.

“Because he’s got a reddish color, like Kage-Gaara.” Tapping the side of the bowl the young boy peered in. “And this one has beady eyes like Sai.” Sasuke burst out laughing and startled the people around them. Naruto came back with a raised brow and one berry orange smoothie and one iced green tea no sweetener.

When Kyusuke went to argue Naruto scowled. “You can share with me. You won’t drink one on your own.” He sat down next to Kyusuke. “What is so funny?”

“Your son named his fish.” A suspicious look passed over the whiskered face.

“He’s our son most of the time, why is he mine all of a sudden?” Turning to look at the tiny raven he queried. “Well?”

“Sasuke is going to keep one at his house and his name is Sabaku cause he’s red, kind of like Kage-Gaara and this one is Sai because he has beady eyes.” Naruto glared down at his son.

“You know how I feel about making fun of people Kyu. You can call the fish something else. There is a difference between naming something to be nice or naming it to be mean, and naming that one Sai for a mean reason is not ok.” Shaking his head Naruto frowned. “You will not be a bully. I’m disappointed in you.” Turning on Sasuke he scowled. “It wasn’t funny. You say I need to give him rules and boundaries. How about you help teach him respect and how to be kind?”

Sasuke looked contrite but crossed his arms. “Right.” Sipping his tea. “What next?”

Naruto looked around and smiled. “How about some more games?” Kyusuke nodded glad to have his father’s unhappy attention turned away from him.

“How about that milk bottle one?” Nodding Naruto once more took his son’s hand, smiling a little when Sasuke took the fish bowl so Kyu didn’t drop it.

Sasuke and Naruto took turns at each stall competing to see who could win Kyu a bigger prize. By the end of the night the boy had so much stuff he couldn’t carry it and Sasuke ended up playing pack mule while Naruto carried the lightly dozing four year old toward their apartment. They entered with the quiet click of the lock and Naruto pointed toward a table for Sasuke to set all of the things down on.

“I’ll see you Monday.” Naruto gave a soft smile. “Thanks for tonight Sasuke, it was… different.”

“It was weird.” Sasuke countered with a smile. “But in a good way.” Naruto smiled brightly but nodded. Sasuke was leaning in for a kiss and Naruto felt himself inhale. Suddenly both men blinked. Kyusuke was frowning at Sasuke his hand clamped firmly over the Uchiha’s lips.

“We do not kiss on the first date. Aunty Ino says only sluts kiss on the first date.” Suspicion entered his eyes. “I don’t know what that is yet, but I know my Daddy isn’t one.”

Clearing his throat Sasuke fought a smile. “You shouldn’t use that word.” He saw Naruto relaxing. “It’s not nice at all but you’re right, you’re Dad is not one.”

“I’m not so sure about your father though.” Naruto muttered to himself. Grinning when Sasuke snorted. “He’s right though Kyu, that is a word that will just get you hit. I’m going to talk with Ino about what she says around you.”

“Night Sasuke!” Kyu grinned waving. “We need to go to bed now.” He pouted when he was set on the floor and his dad walked his biological father to the door.

“I’ll see you later Sasuke.” Naruto wanted to kiss him but with Kyusuke watching he was sure it would open a can of worms he wasn’t ready for. He was also certain it was the wrong thing to do. One good night didn’t prove much. Yes Sasuke had worked hard to gain Kyu’s trust. Yes, Sasuke had risked his life and freedom to rescue their son; and Naruto would be forever grateful for that but those were all Kyusuke things. Sasuke needed to prove himself to Naruto now. With a nod the two parted. Sasuke moved down the hall and Naruto closed the door and began readying himself and his so for bed.
