Show and Tell2: Neji's Return

Ten Ten nervously entered the Hyuuga home the next day. She had never before been alone with a Hyuuga elder. Ten Ten knocked on the door and Hinata answered it. Ten Ten was there to get her alterations done on what was once Hinata’s kimono-style robe. Hiashi and Neji were training outside.

“Ten Ten, welcome dear.” Hinata’s mother said to her sweetly. “Come on, we’ll see just what we need to do to that.” Hinata’s mother motioned for Ten Ten to follow her.She led Ten Ten into the master bedroom of the Hyuuga home. Ten Ten’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. It was called a master bedroom for a reason. It was huge and covered with hard wood floors with an elaborate rug over them. One wall was nearly solid windows, so it in fact it wasn’t a wall at all. There was a huge walk in closet and a master bath that was nearly as large as Neji’s room. This was truly one of the most luxurious rooms Ten Ten had ever seen. Hinata’s mother led Ten Ten into the walk in closet. Ten Ten was surrounded by some of the most expensive clothes money could buy and the quality was incomparable. Ten Ten was beginning to wonder if she really should be with Neji. She was only to begin to realize just how rich the Hyuugas were and she was beginning to feel quite inferior to them. Her mother made enough money to support the two of them…but the Hyuugas obviously didn’t worry about money…ever. Hinata’s mother sat on the floor and pulled out a large box filled with pins, needles, thread, scraps of material and other sewing paraphernalia.

“Okay, Ten Ten take your clothes off and put your kimono on.” She instructed. Ten Ten blushed as she stripped down to her underwear in front of Hiashi’s gorgeous wife. She wrapped herself in what used to be Hinata’s kimono-like robe. The bright coral really did complement Ten Ten’s eyes and her skin color.

“Do you sew a lot?’ Ten Ten asked her as the only member of the Hyuuga house without white eyes looked her all over.

“Not really, my mother did. But I mostly alter things. A lot of these robes belonged to Hiashi’s brother and when he died, Hiashi took them since no one else would be wearing them. Hizashi was slightly smaller than Hiashi and so I let some of the seams out of all of these.” She answered. Ten Ten smiled.

“Oh, you’re so small dear. I always thought Hinata was small, but you’re thinner than she is. Hinata must have taken after me.” Ten Ten laughed at this. Hinata’s mother was by no means a larger woman and it surprised her to hear this.

“What are you saying? You’re not big. You’re very thin.” Ten Ten insisted as she felt Hinata’s mother tug at the sides of the kimono.

“Well, I used to be about your size, when I was married. Of course, two children changes all that. You lose the body that got you those children in the first place.” Ten Ten blushed because she couldn’t believe Hinata’s mother would say something like that to her. Ten Ten wasn’t certain what to say back to her. “So, dear, how long have you known Neji?”

“Since we were little…5 or 6 years old.” Ten Ten said. “Of course, it took a while for use to get together.” Ten Ten said.

“I suppose it did. I met Hiashi when I was 16 and I married him when I was 19. Okay, put your arms straight out.” She instructed Ten Ten.

“Thank you…for agreeing to do this.” Ten Ten said.

“It’s no problem. Besides, every potential Hyuuga needs a kimono. If you don’t wear a kimono before the council of elders they don’t think too highly of you.” Hinta’s mother said.
“Potential Hyuuga? Potential Hyuuga! What is this woman implying? Neji and I have been ‘involved’ for only 2 months!” Ten Ten thought to herself as she silently panicked. Ten Ten decided that she really liked this woman and she wished she could act just like her. Hinata’s mother was so graceful and so perfect. Ten Ten was now standing on the small stool in the walk in closet covered in pins where the alterations would be made.

“There, these lines will compliment you well.” Ten Ten looked at herself in the series of mirrors. She liked the way she looked in this. She felt beautiful. Ten Ten felt hands running through her hair.

“You have nice hair. Have you ever thought about growing these bangs out?” The Hyuuga wife asked pulling Ten Ten’s bangs away from her face and pushing them into her long hair. It was indeed a new look for Ten Ten. She had never before had her bangs brushed away from her face like that and it made her look like an older, more mature woman. Ten Ten smiled.

“No, I’ve always had bangs and…I don’t know I just never took the time to think about my hair. But…I like that, I like them away from my face like that.” Ten Ten said. Hinata’s mother pulled part of Ten Ten’s hair around her shoulders. Ten Ten looked like a goddess.

“Typically you would wear a plain white dress a little longer than this kimono underneath, or you could wear long pants. Wearing it alone is alright also. I think you would look nice with a longer dress underneath this. Hold on.” Ten Ten watched as Hinata’s mother dug through the extensive closet. She re-emerged with a plain white dress, pretty enough to be worn by itself. “Here dear, put this on and then we’ll fit your kimono over it. The white dress came to a V in the middle just like the kimono, except it was obviously cut higher than the radiant coral kimono. Hinata’s mother slipped Ten Ten back into the kimono…she was complete. The white edging hung below the kimono. Hinata’s mother tugged slightly on the edging around the neck line making it symmetrical. She stepped back to admire Ten Ten…she was beautiful. Ten Ten looked at herself. She hadn’t looked this elegant in her life. She smiled.
“What do you think?” she asked Hinata’s mother. The beautiful woman beside her glowed all over.
“You’re definitely Hyuuga material.” Ten Ten swallowed hard. She had trouble figuring this woman out. But Ten Ten couldn’t help but agree with her.
