Inevitable

“There’s always that one person that will always have your heart

You never see it coming ‘cause you’re blinded from the start

Know that you’re that one for me

It’s clear for everyone to see

Ooh, baby, oh

You will always be my boo.”

“Put your lips like this, okay, dobe?”

“Like this, S’uke?”

“No, like this.” A little raven sighed, showing the little blonde beside him on the floor what he was talking about. He puckered his lips and then pointed at them, urging his little friend to understand what he was trying to demonstrate.

When the blonde finally got it right, Sasuke leaned forward and pressed their mouths together clumsily, his cheeks feeling hot as he stared into Naruto’s blue eyes.

“What’s this called?” Naruto mumbled against him, tilting his head in curiosity and fisting a hand in Sasuke’s shirt to pull him closer. The raven was still staring at him, and it was making him nervous.

“Niichan called it a kiss. He said that if I gave you my, um, first kiss, that you would be mine forever.” The raven babbled, leaning forward more until Naruto collapsed back onto the floor with a startled sound, which was followed by a soft giggle.

“Forever sounds like a loooooooong time.” Naruto grinned, tangling one of his hands in Sasuke’s hair and smoothing down the spikes at the back. His grin slowly faded as the minutes ticked by, his hand eventually falling away to rest by his own head. “Do you really have to move, S’uke?” He asked, dropping his eyes to the ground and rolling away so that his back faced his best friend.

“Father says we have to.” Sasuke sighed, sitting up and checking the time on his ninja clock. It was almost five in the evening, which meant Naruto’s parents were going to come in a little over ten minutes. He sighed again and turned his head towards Naruto, feeling a slight cold sensation seeping into his stomach. “Naruto.” He said weakly, prodding the blonde with a finger.

“’m not asleep.” Naruto mumbled, lifting his head to look back at Sasuke with an eyebrow raised. He opened his mouth to ask what he wanted, but the other boy moved forward and crawled over him, his eyes moving frantically over his face.

“Promise me forever.” Sasuke said desperately, leaning down to give him another ‘kiss’. The voices downstairs were getting louder, and there were two more of them.

Naruto’s parents were here.

“Promise me, dobe! Promise I can have you for forever!”

“I promise, S’uke.” He mumbled noisily, his eyes welling up with tears as he hugged Sasuke as hard as he could with his small arms. He clenched his hands in Sasuke’s shirt, unwilling to let go when the footsteps on the stairs stopped in the doorway.

He knew it was his mother by the smell of her sweet perfume wafting through the air.

“It’s time to go, honey.” She murmured, almost slowly, like Sasuke and he were trapped in a tunnel and her voice was just at the end of it. Sasuke clutched him tighter before getting up and reaching for the pendant around his neck-the crest of the Uchiha family-tugging it off with a sharp snap.

“You keep this on until we see each other again, okay? You can return it then, dobe.” Sasuke nodded, putting the pendant on Naruto and frowning up at the blonde’s mother. She tilted her head in question. “He’s mine now, Kushina-san! Tell Sakura for me since I’ll be gone!”

“I will.” Kushina promised, smiling sadly as she grabbed Naruto’s hand and guided him down the stairs.

“I promise, Sasuke! Forever!” He heard Naruto yell back up to him, and a smile broke out over his face.

Forever seemed like a good idea.

--Ten Years Later--

Searching for colleges was a hassle, even with his parents trying to get under his feet and choose one for him. He didn’t care about the private colleges, or the scholarship to Yale or whatever.

He wanted to go find his best friend.

So there he was, still in his pajama pants at Tokyo University’s orientation, glaring at his older brother like he wanted the man to burst into flames. Itachi was currently talking to a silver haired man about his classes and trading smirking glances with a blonde man handing out fliers for a frat party.

He didn’t want to be here.

“I look forward to having you in my class, Sasuke-kun.” The silver haired man nodded at him, and the raven realized for the first time that the man had an eye patch on.

Itachi started to walk away with his papers, which included his class schedule, room number, and a dozen other things he’d need later. All that left for them was for Sasuke to pack his things up and just go.

“You want to check out your room next?” Itachi asked, checking the room number and heading towards the double doors that lead outside. Sasuke rolled his eyes and followed him outside anyway, shoving his hands into the pockets of his hoodie. It was the beginning of September and the weather was cool, but there was a breeze that made him shiver and pull his hood up.

Itachi lead him to a building just down the street from the main hall, then up a flight of stairs to the third floor. There were all ready students moving into the rooms, their parents sitting out in the hallways. Sasuke scowled at them as Itachi and he passed, because the thoughts of his parents always sickened him.

They had taken him away from Naruto, and now they were ignoring his hopes for skipping college until he found said dobe.

His room was number turned out to be 316, and there was all ready someone there.

Actually, there were three someone’s there, talking loudly to each other and making so much that noise that Sasuke wanted to turn around and go back home.

“Fuck, man, I can’t believe you’re on a different floor than us!”

“Kiba, you’re being loud again.”

“He’s always loud, Shika.”

“So troublesome. I’m going to my room.”

A pony tailed boy came out of the room, his eyebrows twitching with annoyance as he walked past Sasuke and Itachi without a second look.

“Go on and take a look, little brother. I‘ll call mother to tell her we got you all set up.” Itachi murmured, pushing the younger raven towards the door, backtracking himself and heading down the hallway. The two other boys in the room were laughing now, almost like at his expense. He scowled again and pulled his hood over his eyes to hide his face, and walked into the room.

The first thing he noticed was how messy the other side of the room was. There was manga strewn about, mixed in with the anime DVD’s and random magazines. He kicked some things aside and went over to his bed, not realizing that the other two occupants had gone quiet.

Sasuke sat in his bed and bounced on it a few times, then sighed and let himself fall back. It was a little lumpy, but at least he even had a bed.

And it smelled like Febreeze.

“So, hi?”

Sasuke grunted at the voice, making sure whoever it was knew he was listening. The voice sounded vaguely familiar, like if you changed some aspects of it, it would sound like a long forgotten memory that he knew he should’ve remembered.

“I’m guessing you’re my roommate?”

“Hn.”

“Asshole.” Another voice whispered, and Sasuke didn’t care enough to get up and punch one of them. He felt relaxed, and a little sleepy, actually. He’d spent the whole night before tossing and turning over dreams about his MIA best friend and didn’t get much sleep.

His roommate was talking loudly again, just to piss him off.

“We need to find Hinata and Sakura-chan later, man. I’m gonna ask her out again.”

“She doesn’t like you, dumbass. Give it a rest. Go out with Gaara or something.”

“Would you shut up about that?! No one knows about that yet!”

“Except now ‘they’ do.” Sasuke smirked from under his hood, feeling slightly better about his roommate now. At least they wouldn’t have any problems when the raven found Naruto and slyly talked the blonde into crazy make out sessions and possibly (hopefully) even crazier sex.

“Got a problem with that, asshole?!”

“No. I’d be a hypocrite if I did.” Sasuke sat back up and brushed off his pajama pants, wondering what was taking his brother so damn long. He’d been talking to their mother for ten minutes now, and Sasuke was starting to get antsy.

“Well, there you go, blondie. A new boyfriend!”

“S-Shut up, Kiba!”

“Oh, wait, that’s right. You’re waiting for him.”

“Don’t talk about that in front of strangers!”

“Face it, Naruto. He’s not coming back for you.”

Sasuke’s breath froze in his lungs, every cell in his body revolving around his roommate’s name.

Naruto.

“Yes, he will. You don’t know anything! I still have his pendant, asshole, and you know how expensive it is!”

Naruto.

“Anyway! Hey, roommate, what’s your name? I can’t keep calling you roommate.”

“Don’t change the subject, asshole!”

They were still arguing when Sasuke came back to his senses, fingers clenched in his pant legs. Naruto was his roommate. Naruto was waiting for him to come back. Naruto remembered what Sasuke had told him when they were only seven years old.

“You keep this on until we see each other again, okay? You can return it then, dobe.”

“We need to find Hinata and Sakura-chan later, man. I’m gonna ask her out again.”

“He’s mine now, Kushina-san! Tell Sakura for me since I’ll be gone!”

“If Sakura even so much as touches you, I’m going to kill her.” He growled without thinking, too caught up in the memories to realize that Naruto didn’t know who the hell he was yet. Sasuke was all ready climbing onto his roommate’s bed, reaching for the chain that dangled innocently around his neck, decorated with the Uchiha family crest and a swirl. “You promised me forever, dobe.”

The chain came off with a soft click of metal, falling into his hand weightlessly. He smirked as he returned it to its rightful place on his neck; feeling at peace for the first time since Naruto was lead out of his room by Kushina’s hand.

“Sasuke?” He breathed, scrambling to make it so they were face to face and not stomach to face. “Sasuke, is that really you?” Naruto asked again, reaching up with trembling hands to pull the raven’s hood down, eyes widening at the familiar head of hair he saw under it, even when the face was rougher than he remembered. “Holy shit, it is you.”

Sasuke wanted to throw himself at the blonde; bury his head in his shoulder, cry, and just breathe him in.

Naruto choked off a sob and threw his arms around Sasuke’s neck, burying his face in Sasuke’s shoulder and breathing in his familiar scent. When thin arms wound their way around his waist, he laughed and rubbed his cheek against the toerh boy’s jaw.

“Wh-What the hell happened to you, bastard?! You were all blushing and freaking adorable when we were kids! Now you’re…I don’t even know, but I like it!” Naruto babbled, pulling away to check his friend out again. Sasuke smirked and did the same, taking in the blonde hair, the whiskered cheeks, and the blues eyes that’d been haunting his dreams. “I didn’t realize how long we’d be apart when my mom took me home! Silly kid me thought it was going to be a few weeks, not ten years!”

“Naruto.” Sasuke breathed, pushing on Naruto’s shoulders until the blonde collapsed onto the bed, Kiba scrambling out of the way to avoid them. Naruto made a sound of surprise before he started to laugh, both of them drowning in memories.

“Get out, Kiba.” Naruto grinned, running his hand down Sasuke’s back and committing it to memory. The raven was so much smaller than he was, which was saying something. He’d been so big when they were kids.

“Put your lips like this, dobe.” Sasuke smirked, leaning forward until their noses were brushing.

“Like this, Sasuke?”

“Yeah. Just like that, Naruto.” Sasuke sighed, finally pressing their mouths together with practiced confidence. Naruto laughed and reversed their positions, pinning the raven with his body weight.

“Am I still yours forever, S’uke?” The blonde grinned down at him.

Sasuke smirked and pulled him into another kiss, tasting Naruto on his tongue and feeling him through the thin material of his pajama pants.

“We promised, didn’t we?”

“Yeah. “ Naruto agreed. “We promised.”

For the sake of anyone who asks, Itachi planned this from the beginning, they just didn’t know it. That’s why he conveniently left Sasuke alone.

Anyway, review?
