Epilogue: Finding Truth
Sammuel closed the car door behind him, stuffed his hands in his pockets, and briskly walked to the door of the building he owned. His sandy brown hair flittering in the cool city breeze, and his orange polo shirt with tan khaki pants clung to his body in different ways as he walked. Now wearing blue colored contacts instead of the stuffy holier than thou glasses he’d worn before, he was starting to feel more like himself. Still not sure if he wanted dye his hair, as the upkeep for it was a bit more trouble than it was worth.
Opening the door he walked in and nodded to the secretary, stopping to lean against the chest high wood desk to flirt with her. The blond woman behind stopped typing and smiled at him leaning forward to show off her ample bosom. Giving her his winning toothy grin a red tint was added to her tan cheeks.
“Hello Mr. Tanner here to see Sarah today?” She asked
“You know it! Gotta see how my investment is going.” Sam answered, “and how many times do I have to tell you to call me Sam, Trinity?”
Her brown eyes looked away back to her computer screen, “that wouldn’t be appropriate Mr. Tanner.”
“So I guess dinner would be out then too.” He pouted, Sam was joking of coarse and she knew as this was their usual routine.
“I’m afraid I’d have to turn you down Sir, that’s even more inappropriate than calling you by your first name.”
He laughed, Trinity, always by the book when it came to proper etiquette at the work place.
“Now scat Mr. Tanner before I feel a need to press sexual harassment charges on you.” She warned him sternly.
He placed a hand over his heart and made as if he’d been wounded, “ack! How could you ever say such a thing to me!”
She giggled as he walked away with a wave of his hand and headed towards the back room. He knocked and waited for permission to come in. He peeked in and Sarah smiled at him waving him in further. He paused when he saw another man sitting in the chair.
“Oh, I can wait if-”
“No no, I was leaving. Thank you.” The man said.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t help you sir.”
“No it’s fine, I’m just glad that it’s all sorted out.”
With that he tipped his hat and left the room Sam took the guys seat and stared at Sarah expectantly.
She answered without even looking up, “even if you are funding me now I can not and will not break client confidentiality Sam.”
He sighed, “fine. So what’s been goin’ on? I’ve been over in Europe as you know.”
“Well other than being made a laughing stalk of my profession I’ve been able to help nine people.”
“Good, glad to know my money is doing good somewhere and not just satisfying a bunch of stuffed shirts.”
She chuckled, “speaking of helping people I’m going to go and visit an ex-client of mine.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yep, I totally forgot about her until I saw her on the news the other day.” Sarah replied tapping a bunch of papers on her desk to straighten them up.
“Oh you’re talking about that one girl who was attacked by her councilor right?”
“Yes that would be the one.”
“Damn when I saw that I wanted to go rip that guys dick off.” Sam said vehemently/
Sarah blinked at him, “well aren’t you the vigilante.”
He shrugged, “so why go to her, you feel bad or something?”
She sighed, Sarah supposed she could at least clue him in a little, “she was sort of like you and the nine other people I’m working with right now.”
“You mean talking about another place?”
“Not exactly but similar.”
“That’s all you’re going to give me huh?”
“You saw the news, did you see how that guy died?”
“The guy died?”
“Yes Sam, it was on the news this morning. Anyway apparently they had to bring in a martial arts guy to confirm their theory. I knew her, knew about her back story and life. She was never anywhere near a martial arts place. The way that guy died was a little crazy to me.”
“Well you’d know all about crazy seeing as who you work with,” Sam joked.
She glared at him, “well I better head out before I miss the train out to there.”
“I can drop you off on my way. My sis lives there, she called me and told me about it which was why I turned on the news.”
Sarah seemed a little torn if she should take him up on the offer.
“Ah, come on I’ll drop you off on my way to visit my sis and her kids. It’s not a crime.”
She sighed, “alright, but just this once.”
“No, problem.”
The two left the building together, telling Trinity to lock up in an hour. Getting in the car they chatted about everyday normal things as if they were friends. Sam making sure not to talk about his feelings and thoughts, Sarah was not on the clock. The two laughed at jokes told and funny stories enjoying the company as they went.
************Prior Dear Tanner************
She slowly woke to the sound of beeping, and her lungs being forced to rise and fall. Her mouth seemed wrapped around some sort of tube and the uncomfortable feeling of it stretched down her throat. Focusing on her eyelids she tried to open them but found they were taped down. A feeling of panic raced over her causing her heart to start pounding in her chest, the beeping became faster as well.
Where was she? Why couldn’t she move? What was wrong with her eyes? Why was there something shoved down her throat? What was going on?
She started to try to take her own breaths as she went into an anxiety attack, her mind racing over all the data her mind couldn’t process, and the fear of having no control over any part of her consumed her.
Distantly she heard people rush in around her as they shouted orders to each other to try and get control of the situation. Soon a strange relaxation pulsed through her and she calmed relaxing into the pillow and mattress underneath her. She listened as some one came close, a strong rose sent wafting over her, as the person carefully removed the breathing tube from her mouth. Taking a breath of her own she could feel that her mouth was dry, but she was relieved that she could breath by herself.
“We’re going to remove the tape from your eyes, but open them slowly, it has been a long time since you last used them.” She heard a soft voice say to her before delicate hands pulled the tape off her lids.
Once the tape was off she slowly opened her eyes to the room around, her face clearly telling everyone she was about to panic again.
“I, I don’t know any of you.” She breathed as fear gripped her once more.
“You’re parents are on there way, please stay calm.” A woman on her right said wearing pink her hair up in a severe bun.
Slowly she sat up, her body and arms shaking with the effort to do so. From over her shoulder came blond hair and the color of it made her panic even more. Something about the color was wrong to see falling over her shoulder. Tears began to fall from her eyes.
“Nakitta! Oh thank god baby you’re all right!” A woman’s voice exclaimed.
She looked up at the woman who’d said her name, the woman had the same blond hair but she didn’t recognize her.
“Who the hell are you?” She cried out yanking back from the woman’s hug.
The woman seemed hurt and turned away from her, then a tall man with dark brown hair came forward his green eyes soft.
“Nakitta, I’m your father and that was your mother.”
What? That didn’t sound right she didn’t recall having parents. She was so confused, and her hands went up into her blond hair and tugged. None of this was making any since, and it was all scaring her.
“You’ve been in a coma for about six months Nakitta.” the man spoke quietly.
“You’re daughter appears to have amnesia Mr. Reiker.” Another man stated and she looked up to see brown hair and brown eyes.
“A-amnesia?” She asked.
“Yes it means you’ve lost your memory. I have the perfect person for you to go to. She’s in the city though, so it’s a bit of a travel.”
“Is she the best?” her self proclaimed mother asked.
“Of coarse.”
“Then we will do it.”
She was finding it very frustrating that other people were deciding what to do for her. She wasn’t really sure if that should be going on. Looking around the room she swallowed hard and carefully laid back against the pillows. Seeing as she no longer remembered anything overly important and everything was overly confusing she would allow them to choose. Her head pounding she closed her eyes, but found that she could not sleep with people in the room.
“Can everyone leave?”
“Of coarse, “ the doctor stated even as her ‘mother’ argued with him.
When the door closed behind everyone she took the quiet time to go over what she had learned so far. Her name was Nakitta Reiker, she’d been in a coma -what ever that was-, and she had amnesia. She also knew that none of this made any damn since and didn’t feel right to her in the least, but as long as she knew nothing she couldn’t argue.
She sighed, amnesia was a scary place to be.
