Anko gasped, pulling herself away. “Orochimaru…!” She gritted through her teeth. Orochimaru sighed. “Anko-sensei! Thank goodness you’re awake!” Koroshi laughed. “Don’t worry, Orochimaru isn’t going to hurt you anymore.” Anko looked, dumbfounded, from Koroshi to Orochimaru. “I did it to protect you, Anko.” “You left to protect me?” Orochimaru nodded. “I knew that if I took you with me, not only would you be in danger all the time, but you would be unhappy, and I would be unhappy with you constantly in danger. I did all of this to protect you.” Anko looked down at her hands, which were fisting themselves in the blanket. She had to listen to him. Everyone deserved second chances, right? Well, at the very least, she would hear him out. What would it hurt just to listen to what he had to say? He began talking, and her feelings came flooding back to her, crashing her against the shores of her mind. This had not been what she had expected.
