They were rudely awakened by a loud clang against the metal bars of the jail cell. Naruto jolted awake, his eyes popping open as his body jerked away from Sasuke, nearly sending the raven to the floor.
“Rise and shine, sleepyheads.” An annoyingly cheerful Kakashi greeted them, a police club at hand, continuously tapping it against the rails. Naruto groaned. Right. They were in a jail cell. Kakashi’s brilliant idea. He sighed again as he sat up, flinching when he heard a groan from beneath him, his eyes coming in contact with Sasuke’s onyx orbs. He turned his eyes away, unable to make himself see the look of disgust that was probably on Sasuke’s face this morning. Last night was probably just pity on the raven’s part.
“Get off dobe.” Sasuke growled, pushing Naruto away. The words made Naruto flinch again as he tried to get as far away from Sasuke as he could. In the small space of the cot he couldn’t really do that, so Sasuke ended with an armful of blonde. Sasuke growled against his ear, whispering so that only the blonde could hear.
“Dammit move your knee, its pressing uncomfortably against my crotch.”
Well that was straight forward. Naruto moved his knee to accommodate Sasuke, but, having no where else to put his leg, he set it to rest on the raven’s hip, his legs opening so wide that he was plastered to the Uchiha’s side.
“Hn. Move dobe. Get up.” Naruto, the feeling of melancholy almost overpowering, did as he was told without responding and swung his leg until it landed on the raven’s side and he ended up straddling the Uchiha as he moved to stand.
“Now Naruto, don’t get too frisky. You have an audience.” Kakashi patronized mockingly.
“Shut it, perv.” He blushed, refusing to make eye contact as he had to plant his hands on the raven’s chest to
lever himself off the cot and off the Uchiha. Once he was on his feet again, he turned to look at Kakashi, trying to mask the sadness with a mock scowl, an unreadable look in Kakashi’s mismatched eyes. Kakashi opened the metal gate of the jail cell and stepped back.
“Breakfast is in the interrogation room. We have to talk a few more things out before you’re ready to go.”
“What time is it?” Sasuke asked.
“A few minutes to ten. Iruka wanted me to wake you guys up so that you could eat and get ready to leave. The helicopter will be at the hanger in a few hours, so we have to get ready.” Kakashi informed them. He would tell them everything later. But first they needed to eat and brush their teeth. Ugh. Morning breath.
Neji groaned as he was jarred awake by Kakashi’s annoying cheerful exclamation. He froze when he heard what Kakashi told Naruto. He felt Gaara stir next to him. How could he sleep through that?
“Get up Gaara.” Neji told the redhead, pushing against his shoulder. Gaara turned onto Neji, his weight pushing against the brunette. With a slightly muffled shriek, they went down, Gaara falling on top of Neji, the brunette’s wind knocked out of him. It was now that Gaara woke.
Neji groaned again, the redhead’s weight making it impossible to drag in a breath. Neji landed on his back, his legs on either side of Gaara, clutching the redhead to him. Great. He said he wouldn’t bottom for him, but the only thing stopping that was their clothing. His thighs hurt. He had slept all night with his legs open and now the jarring of the fall made him hate last night’s inevitable choice that much more. Gaara’s teal eyes opened and stared into his own off-white orbs, heavy with sleep.
“Neji?”
It was unbelievable to the point of stupidity how adorable Gaara looked. He looked like a lost 5 year old, making ...something constrict in his chest. He doubted anyone had seen this side of Gaara before. He could stare at that adorable baby face all day, but he needed to breathe.
“Can you get off me now?” Neji asked through clenched teeth, looking away, too self conscious of the fact that he had just woken up and undoubtedly had morning breath. Gaara groaned and started to push off him, but stopped.
“You can let go of me now, Neji.” Gaara said with a smirk. Great. Gaara was back and the adorableness was gone.
‘Ugh.’ Neji thought. This Gaara, the one that teased him unmercifully, was annoying when he wanted to be. He untangled his legs from Gaara’s waist, wincing as he was finally able to close his legs. Great. (Sheesh, he was sarcastic this morning) He was sore and he hadn’t done anything.
Gaara stood before him and held out a hand which Neji took gratefully, needing help to get up. He winced as his pelvic bones popped, his breath knocked out of him again. Gaara continued to smirk at him. Neji growled.
“This is all your fault.” Neji accused.
“You do know that that sounds very suspicious. What are you, a pregnant woman?” Neji gasped at the audacity of Gaara’s comment. He huffed indignantly and turned to walk away, trying to mask his limp as best he could. After a few minutes of placing one foot in front of the other, he was getting the hang of walking again. Neji hated the obvious looks Kakashi was giving him, and knew that there was a lewd smirk on the silver haired man’s face, though the turtle neck shirt over his nose covered it.
Iruka wanted to get them a home made breakfast, but had been too worried to leave Naruto alone—even though he was safe in the prison. So Kakashi got them food from the local McDonalds*TM*, ignoring Iruka’s protest of it being unhealthy. ‘Who cares?’ was Kakashi’s indifferent reply, trying to pacify his squawking husband after he said that.
After everyone had eaten, they were handed their gym bags full of their clothing and wallets full of cash, as well as a few credit cards. Kakashi pulled a lot of strings and called in a few favors to get Naruto and his friends access to a cabin that belonged to one of Kakashi’s friend. Kakashi went over the plan to get them to the helicopter and then what they would do after they got to their destination—they were going to stay at Genma’s cabin until Kakashi called so that they could be taken to another hanger to get on a plane.
Yet he didn’t divulge where the plane would take them or how long they were going to wait at Genma’s cabin…
