The Chunin Exams Revisited
A month after the beginning of the Chunin Exams most of Konoha as well as several Feudal Lords, the new Kazekage of Suna and the Hokage watch the four teams standing in the center of the Exam arena. Two of the teams fortunate enough to have passed the first two portions of the exam are from Konoha while the other two teams are from Suna.
Raven stands in the aisle as he watches his team on the field below. ‘No mater the outcome I am proud of all of you. Do your best and pass or fail you‘ll always be fine Shinobi.’
“Kind of nostalgic isn’t it,” a voice he hasn’t heard in nearly three months asks him from behind.
“Hai,” he answers without turning to face the newcomer. “I heard that you held your team back from the last exams when you learned that I had done the same, Fei-sempai.”
Fei laughs at the accusation, as true as it may be. “You always could figure people out better then any shinobi I’ve ever met Raven-san.”
“Well this should be an interesting tournament,” a female voice behind them says.
“Hai,” a new male voice agrees. “I wonder whose team is really the strongest.”
Raven smiles as he recognizes the voices of the Kazekage’s two older siblings. “I’d put my squad against any Genin team from both Konoha and Suna any day of the week,” Raven tells the other three. “But if you’d like to make a bet I’m game, Temari-san and Kankuro-san.”
The wind using kunoichi laughs at the obvious boast but accepts the wager. “What are the terms?” she asks politely.
“Losers buy the winner’s team lunch,” Raven tells them with a grin. Though no one on his team has the same legendary eating habits as say Naruto or Choji they all still have rather healthy appetites
“Count me in,” the puppet master adds before Fei also agrees to the wager.
They all watch as the first combatants are announced. The two kunoichi face each other while the others clear the field. “This should be a good match,” Raven tells the others. “Rinoa and Kelala look excited.”
“Mitsuna-chan isn’t one to be taken lightly,” Temari tells him. “Few can stand against her jouhyou in battle.” Raven just smirks as they watch the match begin.
==============================
Rinoa and Kelala, in her Man-beast Clone Form, attack quickly with normal taijutsu as they force the Sand kunoichi to struggle to keep them both at bay with the non-lethal weapon. “Just give it up,” Rinoa taunts the girl as she feigns an attack to give Kelala an opening behind the other girl.
Mitsuna barely manages to avoid the sneak attack but is caught off guard by the smoke bomb tossed at her. Completely blinded by the thick black smoke she can only wait as she hears the words “Double piercing Fang Attack.”
“Told you that you should have given it up,” Rinoa teases the girl as the smoke begins to clear. The group roars with laughter as Rinoa holds Kelala while petting the puppy. Mitsuna lies on the ground struggling to get free of the rope that holds her tightly. “By the way sorry about using your own weapon against you,” Rinoa adds. “I kind of forgot my rope at home and had to use what was available. You understand.”
==============================
Siefer and Squall chuckle as they watch Rinoa untie the Sand Genin. “That just wasn’t right,” Squall tells his teammate as he tries to compose himself.
“No,” his friend agrees. “But that’s Rinoa for you.” “True,” his leader agrees. “Very true,” he adds as he holds out his hand to his teammate. “Wish me luck.”
“Good luck.” Siefer says as he takes the hand and shakes it. He watches as Squall walks towards the stairs before returning his attention to the field.
“Bad enough you associate with that Hyuga scum but now you’re friends with him,” a female voice says from behind him.
“Don’t waste your breath on the traitor,” a male voice adds.
“Fuck off you two,” Siefer replies as he grips the railing.
“What did you say traitor?” the male demands turning Siefer around to face him. Siefer comes face to face with the boy who is about the same height and build as himself. His long black hair is tied in a tight braid running down to the small of his back and his cold steel blue eyes glare menacingly through Siefer’s sunglasses and into his hazel brown eyes.
“I said FUCK OFF Keero,” Siefer growls pushing the boy away. “I’m not in the mood for this shit.”
“Hey you two,” another boy tells them. “Save it for your match.”
“Let it go Keero-kun,” the girl tells him. “He’s not worth being disqualified over.”
“You’re lucky Kari-chan’s here traitor,” he tells Siefer before walking away.
“Whatever,” Siefer replies turning back towards the field below, none of the others noticed the faint blue glow emanating from the palm of his hand before it fades away.
==============================
Squall faces the boy in front of him and bows respectfully to his opponent who just glares at him. “That doesn’t impress me Hyuga trash,” the boy sneers. “I’m still going to kick your ass and laugh as that traitor friend of yours gets his ass handed to him by my teammate.”
Squall just sighs as he takes his fighting stance while activating his Byakugan. The match lasts but a few minutes as the Hiroku’s Guarding Palm skills prove to be far below those of Siefer who is still improving under Raven’s guidance.
==============================
“You’d think Origumo-kun would have tried something different against Squall-kun,” Raven comments as the medics remove the boy from the field. “I mean honestly he and Siefer spar all the time so he knows how to counter the Guarding Palm just like Siefer knows how to counter the Gentle Hand.”
“The Hiroku boy was blinded by arrogance and prejudice Raven-sama,” Temari answers.
Raven hangs his head sadly at the use of his former title. “I was cast out of the Hiroku clan a few months back Temari-san,” he informs her.
“What?” Kankuro ask. “What happened Raven-san?”
Raven sighs as he tries to figure out how to explain why he was banished from his clan. Fei senses his former students discomfort and decides to answer for him. “Hiroku-sama banished Raven-san from the clan after he refused to stop courting Hinata-sama.”
“What?” both of the Sand Jounin ask simultaneously. “He threw Raven-san out for that?” Both men just nod as the siblings look at each other in shock. As hard and as cold a man as their own father had been they knew that he would never throw them out for dating someone he didn’t approve of. ‘Not that he took much interest in our love lives to begin with,’ they both think.
The only one of the remaining Sand Genin makes it through to the next Round when his teammate bows out before their match can even begin. The others fall to the remaining three Hiroku shinobi in what were admittedly fierce battles that left both combatants worst for wear. Everyone is given an hour for lunch which Raven’s team chooses to eat outside the walls of the stadium and as far from the other two Hiroku Genin as they can get.
==============================
A/N: Well things sure are getting interesting in this exam. How will it turn out? Will Raven’s team emerge victorious or will the Sand and Hiroku Genin prove to be too much for them to handle? Just one more chapter left so stay tuned to find out.
