No One Expects the Spanish Inquisition

Better to Reign in Hell then Serve in Heaven

Chapter 12

No One Expects the Spanish Inquisition

“I can walk you know.”

There was no answer just as the other fifteen times he had tried to get the other to put him down. In fact the only thing the man had said since he appeared at his doorway was a simple “don’t move”. Naruto for his part knew when to listen and had gone through the embarrassment of being picked up like a sack of potatoes and carried off under the man’s left arm.

It really was not that bad, that is, once you got over the embarrassment of being carried. Ibiki walked slowly and with confidence that gave him a rolling gait. Aside from the pressure on his stomach which really was not that bad considering those scars were currently pink and simply sensitive, it was a very smooth ride. Anytime he tried to move around a bit to get more comfortable he found the other adding a slight pressure to his side as a clear warning not to move.

Naruto was thankful enough that he was allowed to be facing the direction they were heading. It was also rather interesting how Ibiki was able to stroll through the heavily crowded streets that seemed to open up to the large man. He could smell the fear coming off a few of the villagers and even a few of the ninja they passed by as they looked in their direction.

They entered an official looking building filled with the bustle of ninja that moved silently in their different tasks. Talk was expensive in the special interrogation and torture squad. Their leader Ibiki required a measure of professionalism and efficiency above all else. There was no higher honor to any of the ninja that worked there that Ibiki had chosen them specifically for their job.

The room had been prepared exactly as Ibiki had commanded it. A bed much like the one he had left at the hospital in the windowless room. There were no chairs or niceties to bring the room cheer. Just the cold white sheets that Naruto was laid down on and the luminescent light coming from a bulb directly above his head forcing him to turn his head to the side for not to be blinded.

Naruto watched as Ibiki left the room leaving him alone to stare at the cold gray stone walls and the only door leading in and out of the room. He shivered from the cold and wished that the other had waited long enough to let him change out of the hospital gown and into some real clothes.

He really hated waiting. After the first five minutes waiting on Ibiki to come back it was clear that it would take longer for the other to return. Seeing no satisfaction in fretting about what was to come Naruto allowed himself to drift off to sleep. That was how Ibiki and his group of his top four assessable interrogators found their detainee as they entered the room.

“There is no use pretending to sleep around us. I know you woke up the moment you heard the door being opened.”

“Habbits, especially when sleeping in unknown places.”

“You don’t trust your own village’s ninjas?”

He stared at the only ninja who had spoken since entering the room. All four of the unknown ninja were covered from head to toe in black so that they would be unrecognizable to him out of the room. This would be true to anyone but those possessed by a demon beast. He could smell them and the sound of their voices, though the cloth in front of their face distorted it, would also be recognizable if it came to it. He kept his eyes on the ninja as he spoke.

“I trust people to do what they think is right no matter if I agree with them or not.”

“And how is what the one that injured you right?”

This question from Ibiki as he moved towards the head of the bed while the other spread out taking positions around the bed so that Naruto would not be able to see them all at once unless he looked up directly at the light above him. Rather then play their games he looked straight at Ibiki’s eyes not willing to show weakness.

“He did what he did out of pleasure. He wanted to hear me scream and in pain.”

“For what purpose?”

“A sick person like that does not need an excuse, being born is an excuse enough for his type?”

“What type exactly was he? Did he wear a ninja plate?”

“No, but you would no him if you saw him. Not many people look like a giant plant.”

There were no more questions for a moment as the ninjas above him fell silent. It was a clear indicator that they knew something about the man that had done this to him. The question was if the silence was good or bad for him. Finally one from the foot of the bed spoke up.

“Was he wearing anything unusual?”

“He wore a long, dark cloak bearing red clouds and a red interior with a chin-high collar. He also had a ring on his right hand with the character for “Gen” on it.”

“Did he tell you anything about himself?”

“He said he was part of a group called the Akatsuki.”

“What did he want with you?”

“He though I might know where Orochimaru’s Lair was.”

“Why would he think you knew something like that?”

“Kabuto apparently left his mark on me when I was fucking him.”

“You fucked Kabuto?”

“Yeah, the guy asked for compensation for showing me around the academy and it was not like I had anything to really give him to say thanks for so I fucked him.”

“Is there a reason Kabuto…”

“Kabuto’s loyalty is not the issue here. His master would not partner with the Akatsuki.”

Ibiki was quick to cut that flow of questioning. While he did not like Kabuto or his master Orochimaru, they were currently above his reach. Any dangerous questions about his loyalty to the village would be very unwise. He could not go to the Hokage with an intuition and that snake bastard knew well enough to never leave any trace of defiance.

He could only wait for the day that the Sanin would slip up though with Jiraiya back in the village, his presence might be the catalyst needed to uncover what exactly Orochimaru did in those labs of his. He had already sent men down there but never heard from them again. One did not question a Sanin in the village, their words was directly below the Hokage’s.

“Do you know where he is?”

“No, I passed out from the pain. He was not exactly the most open person you could find.”

“Did he say anything else about his mission?”

“Not really, I think he made contact with Kabuto though. He seemed very irritated about being turned away by him. He also mentioned that they sent ninja before to look for Orochimaru’s lair.”

“He said all this before torturing you?”

“Well he said all that the first time we met.”

“You met him more then once?”

“Twice. The first time he seemed to be in a hurry. When we met the second time he seemed irritated at first that I was not paralyzed.”

“Why would you be?”

“When he ended the first conversation he shocked my body with foreign chakra. He later said it should have lasted longer. I got the feeling that he had been planning to come back for me.”

“How were you able to remove it?”

“It’s just something I’ve always done for as long as I’ve known. My body heals unnaturally fast though there are limitations or I would have been able to get better a lot faster then this.”

“So it was just luck then?”

“I guess you could say that. Not many ninja have healing abilities on their own so it would have been safe to assume that I did not have them.”

“Why didn’t he kill you?”

“I’m guessing luck. He left me in my room to bleed to death.”

“The first time maybe, but the second time he would have known that you could heal yourself. So once again why didn’t he kill you?”

“I don’t know.”

“So far you have been frank with us. But you’re not telling us something. I’ll give you the first meeting due to Kabuto but that second should have resulted in your death. You witnessed a ninja who had no right to be on Konoha land, the Akatsuki are not stupid and would have slain you for your silence.”

“I don’t know what to tell you.”

“Tell me the truth.”

Hands slammed down on both sides of Naruto’s head as Ibiki moved glaring down at the boy. Naruto looked up back at Ibiki without a single flinch. He definitely did not look like he had a secret. He was young and reckless or else he would have told somebody about the intruder. He had been giving a fitting punishment for keeping the information to himself.

“Why would he be interested in you? You’re a Genin, not a danger to anybody. What make you so special that the Akatsuki have taken an interest in you?”

“I told you, I don’t know.”

“That is not good enough. If you are a danger to this village, I can not allow you to leave our custody.”

“I have done nothing.”

“That may be so but the Akatsuki have taken an interest in you and I will not permit them to come down on our heads for a nobody that can’t even answer a simple question.”

“You call it a simple question? Why am I not dead? I met the man twice. I can’t know what he thinks or why he did this shit to me.”

“Then, we will have to do things the hard way.”

Arms pinned his legs down as two of the covered ninja took hold of them while Ibiki took care to pull his arms up capturing them above his head. Naruto struggled not liking where this was headed. He yelped as pain shot through his arm as Ibiki squeezed his hands tight clear with his message that any resistance was useless. It left the two ninja that were not holding him down to do their work.

It was a simple genjutsu. They worked in unison placing one hand on his chest and the other at his forehead to insure the other come not break contact. It was a little harder to do with the material in place hiding their faces. They entered him to find… a cage. They were barely there for a few moments when they felt themselves being torn forcefully from the boy’s mind.

Looking down they felt the boy’s chakra fluxuating wildly. He knew how to dispel a genjutsu placed on him. He stared back at the both of them no longer caring about the light above him blinding his vision. It was a clear look that promised the same treatment if they tried that again.

“What did you see before he kicked you out?”

“A cage.”

“A cage?”

“Yes, a huge cage that stood before us impassable. It is not a Genin level jutsu.”

“He hasn’t used his chakra outside of turning it off and on to repel you two.”

Naruto looked down at the one who talked starting to see a pattern. There were five of them for a reason. Two to insure what he spoke was true being gifted with genjutsu abilities that could see inside a person. The two at the bottom were there to observe his chakra signs obviously being sensitive to chakra waves. That Left Ibiki to use cold calculated knowledge.

“Is this another ability that you have always had?”

“Yes.”

“Bloodline limits do not share co-dominance. One overpowers the other. What over natural abilities do you have?”

“Nothing really useful.”

“I’ll be the judge of that.”

“I can smell and hear things better then most.”

“None of that can be what the Akatsuki is looking for. What else is there boy? Why do they want you?”

“I want to help you I really do, I don’t like being targeted by madmen either but I really can’t tell you why he wanted me.”

“So you do have something that he wants.”

“…we’ve come to a stand still. I can’t tell you anything and you won’t believe me.”

“There is no stand still.”

A cloth covered his nose and mouth from above knocking him out a few moments after his body forced himself to breath in the chemicals on the material. The scent was sickly sweet and he found himself falling into darkness. His darkness was soon joined by the two ninja once again as they stood by the cage.

“Why is the cage still here?”

“It’s to keep him in.”

The two ninja turned not expecting to deal with Naruto now that he was knocked out. Then his words seemed to dawn on them.

“You don’t control the cage.”

“No I don’t, it was a present.”

“I’m guessing this is what the Akatsuki member was after. Or actually what’s in it.”

“Maybe, I refused to let him see it.”

“But he knows you have it?”

“Yes”

“What kind of person would give a present like this to a child?”

“I could not tell you. If it helps any the one who gave it to me is dead.”

“You don’t seem to be saddened by that.”

“I never really knew him.”

“So what is in it? I can’t see anything but darkness.”

“I don’t know what to call it. A friend I guess.”

“Can we see it?”

“I can’t order him around. I’m not his master.”

“This is your source of ‘natural’ powers isn’t it?”

“Yes, I borrow from him and he borrows from me.”

“What does he get in return?”

“Life.”

Naruto smiled a bit at them as he felt his body working the poison from his body. They gave him a small dose meant for the child he looked like. Even after he told them about his unnatural healing, it just showed him that they were not trying to hurt him.

“If we are done here I suggest leaving my body is about to come back online and I will boot you two out again.”

Laugher followed his words as the two disappeared from his sight and darkness returned to him. Kyuubi was being smart for once and not coming forward to gloat or mock him. Though with the amount of work the nine tailed fox was doing, Naruto had a good idea that the other was just sleeping off in the corner of his cell away from the bars. In the end it worked out well.

He woke up to find an argument above his head as the two ninja who vacated his head were explaining their conversation. It seemed that Ibiki was put off by the fact that they had not seen his friend and was telling them to go back in. To which they explained that any more of the chemical could cause severe damages and that they got the information that was needed.

“If that is so why didn’t he just tell us about it?”

“Because I don’t see how my friend can be useful to anyone but myself. He dies when I die. He can’t live without me.”

“It’s still an important thing that you left out.”

“Most people consider you crazy when you tell them you have a friend living inside you and have conversations with it.”

“Fine, but you’re staying here until I meet with the council on this matter.”

“Can I at least get a few blankets? It is kind of cold in here.”

“Fine.”

“…and maybe some ramen.”

“God damn it boy I’m the fucking head of the investigation squad not a nursemaid.”

“…and I’m a Konoha ninja not a prisoner.”

“I’ll send someone by with blankets and food.”

That was from one of the other ninja as they filed out of the door leaving him along again. Naruto frowned at the door before sighing and turning his head up to look at the bulb before him. Now that they were gone he kind of wished they hadn’t left. True they had been asking questions and were being all around cold and professional though he could not help remembering that laughter that he got out of one of them as they had left his head. They had been company at least.
