Instincts

Hello everyone, yes it’s been awhile. I stopped writing for awhile because I got hooked on something else. I got into renovating my house. I’m not finished, but I have to slow down due to lack of money. But now I’m back to writing, though this one is really hard to write seeing it parallels the actual manga, and with the loop we were thrown this week (which I will not go into because I will not spoil anything)… well…… Back to this, I know it’s short, but I have to figure out which way to go ahead with it, so I hope you enjoy this little update and hopefully I’ll be back a lot sooner….

The Turning Away continued…
By Fyrbyrd

“The Council thinks that you are spending too much time with the Leaf Nin. He is being looked for by his own people, they want to contact them to take him back where he belongs,” said Baki as he met with Gaara.

“You can tell them from me that if he is turned over to his village, I just might find an excuse to find a new Council.”

“But they are the elders—“

“Baki, thanks to Lady Chiyo, I have been given a second chance at life. I am not going to waste my time listening to stuffy old folk who want to dictate what I do in my life. I may not house Shukaku anymore, but I still have my power with the sand that has not left me. I am protecting a friend who has become precious to me.”

“Protecting him? From what?”

Gaara merely turned his eyes on the man and said nothing. Baki bowed his head, he knew better than to try and question his choices. Even without Shukaku, the young man was still very powerful and he for one did not want to ever cross him. If Gaara wanted to protect Kakashi, then he would not stand in the way of it. He hadn’t seen the man in a while though, he had only seen the physician Gaara had brought in coming and going from where he knew Kakashi was housed. He was curious as to why they needed a healer, but not enough to try and appease that curiosity. If it had something to do with why Gaara was protecting Kakashi, then so be it.

“I will make it clear that they are not to disobey your orders, Lord Kazekage.” Baki left him there.

Gaara looked out the small circular window of his office. He knew he had said a little more than he had meant to say, but he would not let anyone disturb Kakashi, especially right now. He was very close to giving birth; Omi had ordered him to bed rest two weeks previously. The child was drawing chakra from him; she would be a very powerful child. He hoped that his would be the same. He was knocked out of his thoughts when Omi burst through the door, two ANBU right behind him trying to stop him.

“I’m sorry Kazekage. But it’s time.”

Gaara waved the men away from the healer and got to his feet. He and Omi hurried off to Kakashi’s quarters.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Omi had been forced to knock Kakashi out before he had run to the Kazekage’s office. He had been ordered to get Gaara as soon as it was time for the operation. Gaara was actually going to aide Omi in the delivery of the child, as Kakashi was still afraid of anyone learning about her. He had been restless to get it over with. He was edgy since he had heard that Naruto had left Konoha for even more training, but no one knew where he was. And it was too quiet everywhere else. As if there was something big about to happen. The quiet before the storm…

The pair came into the room where Omi had laid Kakashi ready for the c-section.

“What do you want me to do?” asked Gaara as he looked at the peaceful man on the table.

“We need to scrub up, and then I need you to give me the instruments I ask for as we have been going over in the past week.”

“You know I used to have a phobia about blood?”

“I heard, but wasn’t that your own blood?”

Gaara nodded and Omi shrugged, then they went off clean up, before starting the operation. Then they got down to the business of delivering Kakashi’s child. Gaara was able to work dispassionately though it was still hard to tell if he were put off by the blood or not.

Finally Omi had reached the point where he could remove the child. ”All right, now I will give the child to you to clean up and care for while I sew him back up. Are you sure you will be fine with that?” asked Omi.

Gaara nodded, and got the towel he would use to clean the child in, then Omi pulled out the small body and gently placed her on the towel, before take the scissors up to cut the umbilical cord and clamping it up. Then he allowed Gaara to take the child out while he turned back to the task of sowing the many layers back up again.

Gaara cleaned the little girl up as she squirmed and squalled. He checked her out to make sure that everything was all right with her, that she had no deformities or other problems, before wrapping her up and sitting down to stare at the tiny being in his arms. He was holding a new life just come into the world, the child of two strong shinobi, two strong male shinobi. If not for an experimental jutsu, she would not exist. And she would be his to care of for now, if only to keep her safe. One of those who knew of her existence would be very dangerous to her. But as Gaara gazed down at the tiny babe with a shock of white blonde hair, he knew he would always protect her, even if she was not his child, he would protect her as one of his own.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“What the hell do you think you are doing?” yelled Omi as he came into the room to find Kakashi fully dressed and apparently getting ready to leave.

“I need to go, there is something about to happen, and I can just feel it.”

“You are recovering from surgery I told you to take it easy for at least a month. Your chakra reserves may require longer than that!”

“I have to go,” said Kakashi tying his head band back into place over his eye.

“But Lord Kazekage—“

“Tell him I will return, but I must go now.”

“The babe, what of her?”

“She is with Gaara?”

“Yes, he dotes on her as if she were his own.”

Beneath his mask, Kakashi quirked his lips. “I will return.” Then with a poof he left Omi looking at nothing but smoke with his mouth open as if to say more.

“Stupid Leaf Shinobi didn’t even give her a name,” he muttered as he moved off to inform his master.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Iruka was headed back towards the children, glad that he knew that they were safe when he stopped to help a fallen shinobi, but as he turned and saw the Akatsuki member behind him, he wondered if he would ever see them again.

“Tell me the location of the Nine Tails Jinchuriki host or I shall destroy you.” Iruka just stared at the man, “Speak now.”

“I have no intention of telling you anything.”

“I see…”

The black rod that was coming at him was stopped, and right there before him was the one person he didn’t think he would see. “Kakashi.”

“Take that injured fellow with you and withdraw, leave this scene to me.”

“Roger.”

“Good luck Kakashi,” he said as he jumped away with the other.

Iruka took the man straight to an area he knew was looking after the injured, the sound of destruction everywhere.

“Iruka, get back to evacuating everyone will you. We have to get everyone out,” he was ordered. He nodded and hurried to his assigned area as he had with all the drills. As he moved he hoped that Kakashi would be careful, this was definitely no drill, it was the most dangerous situation the village had been in a long while.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kakashi fought against Pein with everything he had, he knew that he would die if he used any chakra again, but there was no other way if he were to save Choji and the village.

He thought of those he had lost and that he was to join them soon. There was nothing else there for him to do…

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being pulled back to life was not something he expected was going to happen to him. One minute he was telling his dad about his life, and the next minute he was back amongst the living. He briefly wondered if the curse might have been lifted from him and he would not have to worry about it anymore. He really hoped so. But his thoughts were pulled from that when he felt that he had to go to Naruto, that he was needed there, so he took off.

Bringing Naruto back to a hero’s welcome was worth all the grief he knew he was in for from at least two other people. But discovering one of them was in a coma… How could he leave now, if he had to? So far he had not felt any effects from the curse on him, perhaps it was really gone now, and he could only hope and wait and see.

With the knowledge of Danzo being made the Hokage he knew that his place was to protect Naruto. So far he had not seen Iruka or the children, and he knew he was not going to go and see them. As long as Iruka was with them, they were safe, his place was with Naruto and as long as he was able that was where he would stay. He could worry about everything else later.
