Kakashi had been calling favors all night. Sure, some of the people had been pissed off that he had called so late, but they also knew Kakashi wasn’t a man that needed help—someone who could always handle himself and rarely needed others to help him with whatever he had to do. To say that Genma was surprised by Kakashi’s call at 3 in the morning would be an understatement. His boyfriend hadn’t been too pleased either, ut Hayate didn’t know Kakashi like Genma did.
‘What’s all this about?’ He had asked in a slightly frustrated voice.
‘Naruto.’ Was all Kakashi had said before calling in the favor. It hadn’t been much of a favor, really.
More like...blackmail material.
Kakashi had gotten his hands on pictures of Genma in a sultry costume covered in his boyfriend’s essence after a bout of kinky sex and had threatened to show everyone at the station. So...yea...definite blackmail material.
Genma was trapped and he knew it, so he was indulging Kakashi with an unlimited amount of time at his cabin in the woods in Maine. Kakashi also got Genma to fill the cabin to the brim with supplies for a month. If more was needed, one of the boys would call and Kakashi would call Genma. Then Kakashi would be able to track down Kyuubi and get him and all his goons and lock him away for eternity without having to worry about Naruto getting in the way. Of course, that was unless Kyuubi gave him a reason to pull the trigger. Chills had run down the spines of everyone in the room when they saw the murderous aura Kakashi was exuding.
Kakashi hated seeing Naruto so reserved, had lived so long with the blonde bundle of sunshine dull and withdrawn and it physically hurt the silver haired man seeing him like this. His chest contorted in pain and his heart felt as though it was being squeezed by an invisible hand. And it hurt Iruka. Iruka had suffered along the blonde for the majority of ten years and now that kind hearted school teacher was suffering again. And it was all Kyuubi’s fault. Kakashi would make sure the bastard paid for every hurting and endangering the lives of his loved ones.
While Iruka wanted Kyuubi dead, his thoughts weren’t so malicious. He just wanted Naruto to be safe and happy. If that meant that Kyuubi would no longer be alive, so be it. With that steel reserve the school teacher began making plans. He didn’t have any extra time saved at the school to day a few days off, so if he went with Naruto before announcing his leave he could lose his job. He was suddenly hating Kakashi for taking him on that week long vacation to Maui for their anniversary. He sighed. He couldn’t hate Kakashi. That had been one of the best times of his life. There was no use regretting things now. All he had to do was wait until Monday and tell the administrator he had to take leave for a family emergency. He just hopes he could make it to Monday.

Naruto was quiet the entire morning. Sasuke kept glancing worriedly at the blonde, wanting to know what was wrong—aside from the obvious. It could be that, he thought to himself. Naruto could be trying to ward off the fact that he was going to run away from his murdering brother. But…there was something about the way he refused to meet anyone’s gaze. Sasuke couldn’t take it anymore. If Naruto was scared, he would make him feel safe. It was just the silent agreement they had. He walked up to Naruto, who was sitting in a corner away from everyone, making himself small.
“Hey dobe.” Sasuke said the endearment in a casual way, but he didn’t miss the flinch that made Naruto’s whole body jerk, though he tried to hide it by moving into a different position.
“whats wrong” sounded a bit too…stupid at the moment and he didn’t know what else to say, so he stayed shut and just sat down next to him, giving him silent comfort. After a while, Naruto began to relax. Sasuke kept thinking about the many things that had been going on. Their belongings were already packed and stuffed in the trunks of the cars. They only had to wait another hour before they were to get in the cars to the helicopter.
He thought to last night. Everything that Kakashi had said…how Naruto’s own father had done that to him…how the blonde felt in his arms...the blue eyes staring fearfully up at him…
A light dawned in his head and he would have smacked himself if it didn’t look stupid.
‘Oh no.’ he thought dreadfully. Naruto had heard. He knew that they knew what happened to him. He looked at Naruto, the blonde unusually quiet and morose. Damn it.
“Naruto.” Sasuke was taken aback by the violent flinch the blonde gave. He looked as though he was waiting to be hated, yelled at, beaten.
Fuck.
This is what Kyuubi had done to him. Had broken him so much that he was unable to trust anyone.
‘Oh, God.’ Sasuke thought, a feeling of sadness washing over him unlike anything he’d ever felt before. He looked away, then back at Naruto, knowing the blonde was watching him intently, and would take any gesture as rejection.
“Naruto,” he began again, quietly, “We don’t hate you. We don’t think any differently of you now that we know. If anything we hate Kyuubi more.” The thought of the older blonde made his blood boil, and made Naruto wince again, a sound strangely like a whimper falling from his lips. “What was done to you, was not your fault.” He turned and gently took Naruto’s chin in his hand, making the blonde look at him. “Naruto, it wasn’t your fault. And...it wasn’t your father’s fault either.” The realization hit him like a ton of bricks, but the more he thought of it, the more he believed it. It wasn’t Minato’s fault. The man may have a twisted way of thinking, but... he understood why he did what he did…kind of…the only one to blame…
“The only one at fault here is Kyuubi.” He saw the blue eyes widen in fear, silent tears falling from his eyes.
Naruto had never really blamed his father, had never thought that what his father did was wrong. He was asked if he would take part in it and had said yes. He had been eight at the time, but he was old enough to understand...to an extent. His father had said that it was just an injection that didn’t work...but that he would get a lot of money for it. His allowance after that was proof of what his father said. But... Kyuubi...
“Sasuke.” He chocked out, his eyelids sliding shut, fresh tears falling down his cheeks.
“Dobe. We won’t ever think any different of you. You mean so much to all of us…to me.” The last was a whisper that he wouldn’t have heard if he wasn’t so close to the raven. His eyes snapped open in shock, his eyes meeting the sincere dark orbs of the Uchiha.
“Sasuke?” He questioned, not knowing how to react to what the raven said. But then those deep obsidian orbs locked onto his own and he couldn’t think, he couldn’t breathe. His heart fluttered against his chest, going a mile a minute and it was so completely different from the way it pounded last night…had it been only a few hours since Kyuubi returned?
He couldn’t escape the raven’s gaze, and he didn’t want to. He could see the Uchiha leaning towards him and his heart began to pound furiously against his ribs. He could feel the raven’s body heat as his thigh pressed against Naruto’s own, the blonde’s body shifting unconsciously towards Sasuke’s. He could almost feel the Uchiha’s breath against his lips. But he would never get to feel the raven’s lips against his own.
“Sasuke.” The voice stopped both men in their tracks. Sasuke growled, but instead of turning to glare daggers at Iruka—he couldn’t do that to Iruka….it was almost impossible—he sighed and leant his forehead against Naruto’s, his eyes sliding shut to avoid going cross-eyed.
“Yes, Iruka?” He asked in a voice that spoke of great strain.
“Come here please.” Sasuke’s body stiffened. Shit. That was Iruka’s no-nonsense teacher voice. He sighed again and did as Naruto’s uncle asked.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” An unreasonably incensed Iruka asked a confused Sasuke. The question took Sasuke completely by surprise. This was… confusing. And unexpected. The teacher never cursed. Never.
“We were talking.” He said with a perplexed tone, his brow creasing in confusion.
“No. You were kissing him.” Iruka’s furious whisper was matter of fact, leaving little room for discussion, or so he thought. Sasuke’s expression went from ‘...o...kay’ to ‘...so?’. Not that much of a difference, but the attitude was there. He had no idea where Iruka was coming from. The man must be insane.
“We didn’t kiss.” The raven said truthfully. Because, really, they hadn’t. Almost, but not quite. Iruka almost growled. He felt like bashing the little bastard’s head in. the insolent brat. How dare he lie to his face?! Kissing Naruto and denying it.
Now, you have to understand where Iruka was coming from. Sure, he was blowing things way out of proportion (and falsely accusing Sasuke of kissing the blonde), but Naruto had just had a traumatizing experience and such physical contact was bound to bring back horrific memories the blonde suppressed. Sasuke was supposed to be the one who protected him, not the one who brought up disturbingly traumatizing memories. However, Iruka, while being a wonderful parent for wanting to protect his child (in the fundamental sense of the word), was-in this instance-wrong.
“I saw it! Don’t lie! Don’t you dare take advantage of him Sasuke!” Iruka was forcing himself to keep his voice low, his hands at his sides were clenched in fists and he was trembling slightly with restrained anger.
“Advantage?!” Sasuke looked appalled. He looked like he was going to be sick. He was downright disgusted that Iruka would even think such a thing of him.
“How the hell can you say that! You of all people!” Iruka faltered for a second and was hit with a pang of guilt, but it wasn’t enough to dissuade him from justifying his actions.
“I can say that because it’s true. You’ve always been the one he’s gone to when he’s bad. He trusts you. Don’t take advantage of—”
“Stop. Don’t you dare say it. I love Naruto. I would never do that to him.” Iruka and Sasuke both froze, staring at each other, shocked.
‘What did he just say?’ Iruka thought disbelieving.
‘What did I just say?’ Sasuke panicked inside his head. What the hell had he been thinking by blurting that out?! He groaned inwardly. He was screwed. He was so screwed.
Iruka snapped him out of his thoughts of eternal demise. It wasn’t anything Iruka said or did—at least nothing big. Sasuke was waiting for Iruka to freak. To yell at him. To do something! But all the teacher did was smile at him. And that smile made Sasuke wary. He didn’t like the look of glee that got brighter and more pronounced on the older man’s face.
‘What the hell did I just get myself into?’ Sasuke thought dreadfully.
