What Dreams May Come
Chapter Thirteen
The meal itself was simple. The company, however, was complicated. Naruto and Sasuke ate quietly as the meal progressed in companionable silence. Unlike the previous night, the strain, although still present, was diminished due to the events of the day. Sasuke may have had a greater understanding of Naruto, but that didn’t mean his mind completely accepted everything without a qualm.
There were still many uncertainties that plagued Sasuke and he took comfort in the presence of the blonde. He wasn’t sure what type of relationship would develop between them, but he was more open to creating a deeper bond with Naruto. So many fantastical things had forced themselves into his perfectly ordered life and Sasuke was still uncertain how to deal with them. Even now as he sat staring at the uneaten food on his dish, he couldn’t help but recall the conversation with himself. Was it real or just a fantasy created by his mind to deal with all the new information that was flooding him?
“Sasuke?”
Sasuke lifted his eyes to meet Naruto’s powerful gaze. He swallowed in an attempt to remove the lump that seemed to have lodged itself in his throat. The intense blue eyes seemed to stare right through him, directly into his soul. It felt as if they were able pick apart everything that made him who he was.
“Sasuke, are you alright? Have I forced too much on you?” asked Naruto.
“No, it’s just…it’s just I am having trouble coming to grips with everything that I have seen. Sometimes I can’t distinguish between what’s real and what is only in my mind. That frightens me a little,” answered Sasuke.
Naruto sat in silence, watching as Sasuke’s eyes drifted downward once more. Biting his lip, he decided that in times like this, the best medicine was forgetting everything and he had just the elixir for the job. Rising from his chair, Naruto went to the cupboard and pulled out a large unmarked jug.
“What’s that?” inquired Sasuke.
“Very potent Nihonshu,” Naruto grinned mischievously.
“What are you going to do with it?”
“I’m not going to do anything. We, on the other hand, are going to drink it.”
“I don’t drink,” stated Sasuke.
“You do tonight.” Naruto slyly replied.
Sasuke felt a twinge of nervousness. He rarely drank. Spirits always seemed to affect him much more rapidly than most individuals. Itachi always laughed at Sasuke’s inability to hold his liquor, saying that he was a cheap date. If he drank the sake Naruto offered, it was highly likely that he would become very drunk, very fast. Could he trust the blonde to behave himself? Deciding that having the freedom that came with intoxication was worth more than the risks, Sasuke stood up and walked towards Naruto. Following him cautiously, Sasuke saw the blonde settling in a comfortable chair in the living room.
“Sit down, I’ll pour,” ordered Naruto.
Naruto watched as Sasuke sat on the sofa opposite himself. Sasuke’s nervousness was rolling off him in waves. Naruto couldn’t suppress the feral grin that widened across his face as Sasuke eyed the liquid being poured into matching cups. The sight of Sasuke wrinkling his nose at the powerful aroma that accompanied the Japanese sake was adorable. He looked like a little kid getting his first taste of his father’s secret stash.
Naruto rarely drank, as alcohol always failed to have the same effect on him as it did others. He didn’t know whether his tolerance was simply supernaturally high or if Kyuubi’s chakra eliminated the alcohol content. Either way, he couldn’t for the life of himself get drunk. If he drank extremely fast he might acquire slight buzz for a few minutes, but that too faded much faster than normal. In most cases, Naruto just avoided alcohol. No point in drinking the bitter shit if the desired effect was voided out by your body.
This particular brew was the only one that could get him buzzed easily. It was very potent sake. He suspected that there was more in the brew that simple rice wine but he had never bothered to find out what. It served its purpose and that was all that mattered.
Naruto took a swallow from his cup and winced slightly at the burn that always accompanied strong liquor. Gesturing for Sasuke to do the same, Naruto watched in amusement as he downed his entire glass in one swallow.
Sasuke began to cough raggedly as the sake burned all the way to his stomach before fading into dull warmth. Gulping in deep breaths of air in an attempt to ease the burning, Sasuke shot Naruto an evil glance. The asshole could have warned him that the vile elixir foisted on him would burn like hellfire going down.
“You could have warned me, idiot!” he gasped.
“Where’s the fun in that?” smirked Naruto.
Reaching over, he refilled both cups before bringing his own to his lips once more. Sasuke eyed the cup as if trying to decide whether the drink was worth the burn that would sear his throat. Already he could feel the warmth from the first cup seeping into his veins, dulling everything around him. The feeling was something akin to euphoria and Sasuke was in desperate need of something to take his mind off the strange occurrences of the day.
Picking up the glass, Sasuke once again downed the powerful brew. The burn was much less intense this time and the warmth in his blood intensified. His body was feeling really good. Worries and troubles melted away until all that remained was euphoria.
“Where did you get this stuff?” asked Sasuke as he struggled to maintain coherent thought through the fog that was slowly working its way into his mind.
“An off the wall shop in one of the poorer districts in Kyoto. The old man that runs the shop has been producing this stuff for years,” answered Naruto.
“I think I need to sit down. I’m getting a little dizzy.”
Naruto burst into laughter. Sasuke never could hold his liquor worth a damn. It seemed as if that was a trait he maintained in both lives. The two of them were certainly a pair. Naruto couldn’t get drunk and Sasuke got drunk faster than seemed humanly possible.
“You are sitting down,” Naruto chuckled lightly.
“I am?”
“Yep.”
“You’re right. When did I sit down?”
“How about another drink?”
“Yes that sounds good; I think I’ll have another.”
Naruto continued to pour and Sasuke continued to drink. At some point Naruto stopped drinking all together. The only reason he drank the first two glasses was to put Sasuke at ease. Sasuke was too far gone to even notice the fact that Naruto no longer joined him in the imbibing of the liquor.
“Thish stuff ain’t half bad.” slurred Sasuke after taking another drink of the sake.
Sasuke felt so good. This was probably the best that he had ever felt in his entire life. His mind was free of the worries that had been plaguing him since meeting Naruto. Naruto! Sasuke looked over towards where the blonde was seated. He looked so beautiful sitting in the chair, his legs crossed, his face bright with enjoyment, and his pink lips creased in a wide grin that showed off white teeth. Staggering to his feet, Sasuke wobbled his way towards the blonde, all the while attempting to figure out why the floor was so wobbly.
Naruto was enjoying himself immensely. A drunken Sasuke was just about the funniest thing he had ever seen. Who would have ever guessed that Uchiha Sasuke was a lightweight when it came to alcohol? Merriment danced in his eyes as he watched the brunette stand and sway back and forth in an attempt to balance himself, a feat that was extremely difficult when one is sloshed.
Sasuke was elated when he finally reached the blonde. To Sasuke it felt like he had walked a mile to reach the other. Naruto arched a brow when Sasuke stepped before him. Sasuke didn’t care, he wanted, no, needed to kiss those soft lips again. The memory of the kiss shared in the dojo was still vivid despite his alcohol fogged mind. His lips began to tingle from the memory. The chance to relive that kiss was in his grasp, all he had to do was take it.
“Sasuke? Are you alright?” asked Naruto, now concerned at the way the other was leering at him.
“Yesh,” Sasuke murmured.
“I think its time to put you to bed,” Naruto stated, a little disappointed in the drunken Sasuke. He had hoped for a more entertaining show.
“Hmm…I dun wanna,” purred Sasuke.
Naruto sighed and stood. Before he could grasp Sasuke’s arm to lead him to bed, Sasuke pushed Naruto back into the chair and straddled his legs. Naruto grunted as Sasuke pressed firmly against him. His body could do nothing other than react to the stimulation. The feel of Sasuke pressed firmly against him was like a little touch of heaven. Or hell. Naruto was unsure of which at this point.
“I’m gonna kiss you,” Sasuke drawled.
“What makes you think I’ll let you?” inquired Naruto.
Sasuke seemed to consider the question, more than likely having to put more thought into it due to the haze created by the sake. His eyes darkened for a moment before he leaned down, his breath mingling with Naruto’s.
“You will,” he whispered.
Naruto swallowed at the appearance of dark desire in the black eyes. Devoid of the pesky inhibitions, Sasuke was acting on complete instinct. His breath came in small puffs, carrying the scent of sake. His glistening, rose colored lips were parted and hovered just over Naruto’s own.
‘Please…kiss me…please.’ begged Naruto silently.
Sasuke seemed to understand and closed the distance between them. Fireworks went off inside of Naruto. Heaven, this was definitely heaven. No matter the outcome, this small taste of heaven was worth it all. The wonderful lips that moved across his own started a fire that boiled in his blood, more potent than any alcohol. Sasuke tasted of sake and midnight pleasures. Just this simple touch and Naruto’s mind was reduced to goo. Sasuke lifted his lips and Naruto was deprived of the touch he so longed for. He needed that touch again so that his long neglected heart would once more begin to feel alive.
Sasuke gazed down into the blue eyes that looked unblinkingly at him. His heart pounded in his chest. It wasn’t enough. One kiss wasn’t enough to satisfy this longing that pounded through him. He couldn’t have stopped himself from taking another even if he had wanted to. He wanted to savor the flavor of the blonde again. This was an addiction that he never wanted to be cured of.
The second kiss was not as gentle and sweet as its predecessor. Instead of light and delicate, this kiss was dark and deep. Naruto gasped as Sasuke pushed his tongue deeper. This taste was so much more potent, that he couldn’t help but respond in like. Grasping the back of Sasuke’s head, Naruto angled his face and took control of the kiss.
Thrusting his tongue inside the warm cavern of Sasuke’s mouth, Naruto released a groan into the kiss. This exploration of Sasuke was so addicting. He felt as if he could kiss him forever and never tire of the taste. The way Sasuke made him feel was so much more than simple lust or desire. It was a longing, a longing to be a part of him. Naruto pulled Sasuke even closer, trying to merge their bodies together so that they would never be apart again. His fingers plowed through the spiky blue-black locks and Naruto drank deep of Sasuke’s flavor. Only when the need for oxygen became too desperate did he pull away from the lips that continued to call to him.
Pulling back, Naruto gasped for breath. Sasuke’s lips, slightly swollen from the kiss, parted as he panted for his breath. Naruto leaned up to suck first the lower, then the upper lip, taking one last taste of paradise before pushing Sasuke from his lap. Sasuke stumbled to his feet, confused at being removed from the warm lap. Naruto stood and led Sasuke towards the bedroom. Sasuke leaned heavily on Naruto and followed him willingly towards the hallway.
Pushing Sasuke down on the soft mattress, Naruto pulled the socks, t-shirt, and jeans from the other, leaving him in only boxers, before pulling the sheet over him. Sasuke made a little sound of disappointment when Naruto pulled away.
‘Why is he leaving me?’ Sasuke’s alcohol drugged mind asked.
Sasuke looked up pitifully at Naruto and watched as he turned to leave the room. Desperate for the blonde to remain with him, Sasuke reached out and grabbed the corner of Naruto’s shirt. Clenching his fist around the soft material, Sasuke jerked his arm in an attempt to pull Naruto’s attention to him.
“Please…” whimpered Sasuke plaintively.
“I can’t,” Naruto murmured.
“Stay with me,” pleaded the brunette.
Naruto closed his eyes at the look of utter longing coming from Sasuke. It was so hard for him to pull away when such a needy look was directed at him. Naruto bit his lip and decided that he would deal with the consequences of his actions tomorrow. He pulled back the sheet and lay down beside Sasuke. Sasuke curled his body close to Naruto and released a contented sigh.
“Naruto…” he said in a hushed voice.
“Hmm?” hummed Naruto.
“I missed you.”
‘How many times will he take my breath away?’ thought Naruto.
Naruto felt the breath still in his lungs at the words. They were words from Sasuke’s soul that were unimpeded by rational thought. These words alone caused tears to run down Naruto’s face as he pulled Sasuke deeper into his embrace. Nuzzling his nose into Sasuke’s neck, Naruto breathed in the musky scent that was unique to Sasuke alone. Cuddling close, Naruto released a long shuddering sigh of contentment before drifting to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Naruto awoke to a feeling of warmth cuddled against him. Opening his eyes, he gazed lovingly at the sight of black spikes, mussed from sleep, lying against pale skin. The dappling sunlight danced across the Uchiha’s skin, and illuminated every inch that it touched with a soft glow. Sasuke was, for lack of a better word, perfect.
If not for the intense need to relieve the pressure in his bladder, Naruto could have stayed in the bed cuddled beside the raven for another eternity. However, the physical need outweighed the emotional need and with a sigh, Naruto untangled himself from Sasuke before making his way towards the bathroom.
After finishing his morning routine, Naruto snuck a glance at Sasuke. The crinkling of his forehead told Naruto that it wouldn’t be long before he awoke. Walking into the kitchen, Naruto prepared a drink that Sasuke would no doubt soon need desperately.
Mixing several herbs into a glass of juice, Naruto carried the glass towards the bedroom just in time to see Sasuke shoot from the bed towards the bathroom. The sound of retching caused a small twinge of pity in Naruto. This was going to be a very nasty hangover. The strength of that particular Nihonshu might let you get drunk faster but it left you with the mother of all hangovers the next day, or so Naruto had been told anyway.
Grabbing a cloth from the linen closet, Naruto dampened the soft cotton in cool water from the sink before pressing it against Sasuke’s forehead. The only reply from Sasuke was a pitiful moan that tore at Naruto’s heart strings. Sasuke sounded like he was dying.
“I have something that will help in the bedroom,” said Naruto as he offered Sasuke a hand.
Sasuke looked at Naruto for a moment before turning once more towards the toilet as another series of convulsions wracked the pale body. Sasuke shuddered as the heaving in his stomach settled for a moment. Gratefully, Sasuke took the glass of water that Naruto offered and rinsed the bile residue from his mouth.
Naruto scooped Sasuke from the floor and easily carried him from the bathroom to the bed. Once he was settled on the bed, Naruto offered him the glass of juice along with some aspirin. Sasuke swallowed and shuddered at the thought of anything touching his stomach even if it was just juice and aspirin. He really didn’t want to spend any more time collapsed next to the toilet.
“I don’t think I can drink anything,” groaned Sasuke as he buried his face in the pillow to ward off the light that filtered in through the blinds.
“Trust me. You will be able to keep it down. I added some ginger, amongst other things that will help calm your stomach,” smiled Naruto.
Sasuke weakly sat up once more, blinking back tears as the light seared a burning path of pain straight to his brain. This had to be the worst he had ever felt in his entire life. Once he was feeling better, Naruto was going to be on the receiving end of an ass whooping. Sasuke smirked a little at that thought. Yes, he was definitely looking forward to showing Naruto exactly how appreciative he was of being coerced into drinking that vile concoction.
Taking a sip of the juice, Sasuke was surprised by the taste. The herbs mixed in with the juice gave it a slightly tangy flavor. Taking a deeper sip, Sasuke snatched the aspirin from Naruto’s hand and downed them quickly. After finishing the glass, Sasuke was surprised to find that his churning stomach had eased. Collapsing against the pillows, he waited in anticipation for the aspirin to begin to work its magic.
Now that his body was no longer heaving, Sasuke was able to think. He went over in his mind the events of the previous night. His heart began to thump in his chest as he recalled a certain kiss he initiated with the blonde. He had kissed Naruto. Bright red flushed across his cheeks as embarrassment set in.
‘Oh, God.’ groaned Sasuke to himself.
“Naruto…about last night…” Sasuke began.
“Don’t worry, Sasuke. I won’t hold it against you. Though the next time you kiss me I would like it to be while you are sober,” teased Naruto.
Sasuke groaned and buried his face in the pillow once more, praying that the earth would swallow him whole. He was mortified at the memory. Embarrassment aside, Sasuke had to admit that the kisses of the previous night had to be the most erotic he had ever experienced. Naruto would no doubt continue to tease him about them.
“Sasuke, I know you feel like shit and that is my fault but since today is Saturday, I thought you might like to go back home and have a day to rest before classes on Monday. It’s up to you. It’s a long drive and you can sleep most of the way.” offered Naruto.
“Will that ruin what you had planned here?” asked Sasuke, lifting his face from the pillow.
“No, most of what needs to be done will require supplies that I don’t have readily available. I will come back in a few weeks and complete those repairs,” the blonde explained.
Deciding, Sasuke attempted a minute nod. “Alright. Let’s head back today.”
“Just rest for a little while. We will leave after lunch,” Naruto prompted”
“Ugh…don’t even mention food.”
“Don’t worry, by lunch time your stomach will be all better,” was the comforting reply. Naruto smiled gently before leaving the room to take care of the various odds and ends that needed doing before they left.
As Naruto worked, he thought of the difference Sasuke’s presence made in his attitude. He had originally planned to come here to mourn and lose himself in thoughts of the past, but thanks to Tsunade and Jiraiya, Sasuke had ruined those plans. Things weren’t as he had intended them, but that wasn’t always a bad thing. Sasuke was definitely difficult to handle, but that was the same for both incarnations.
‘No shit,’ growled Kyuubi.
‘So finally showing your face?’ asked Naruto.
‘I figured you and Sasuke could use some alone time,’ the demon muttered.
‘Very magnanimous of you.’
‘Shut up brat and stay away from that shit you drank last night!’ growled Kyuubi.
‘Why?” inquired Naruto.
‘That shit makes my mind fuzzy.’
‘Haha, that’s what it’s supposed to do,’ Naruto laughed.
‘So that’s what happens. Kyuubi gets all the benefits of alcohol. Lucky bastard,’ Naruto pouted.
Well, considering that Kyuubi sounded somewhat miffed this morning, it looked like he got the detrimental effect of the drink as well. Naruto grinned as an evil thought popped in his head. Closing his eyes, Naruto felt himself falling into himself.
Attempting to be as silent as possible, Naruto crept towards the dark cage. He couldn’t help but notice that the room was much more dim than usual. A slight rustling caused Naruto to freeze before creeping closer. Peering into the darkness, Naruto grinned wickedly.
“GOOD MORNING, KYUUBI!” he screamed into the prison.
‘You fucking brat!’ snarled Kyuubi as two fur covered paws were pressed over his ears in a futile attempt to ease the pain that radiated through his skull.
“You got my hangover,” Naruto reflected with a chuckle, his voice louder than necessary “I only had two cups how in all of creation do you have a hangover?”
‘Could you keep your voice down? My head is spinning,” was the whimpered response
“Never thought I would see the day when I’d meet someone that Sasuke could drink under the table. You do realize that this is just sad?” Naruto grinned.
‘Get out and leave me alone,’ The Kyuubi snarled before turning his back to the cheerful blonde.
Naruto shook his head and left the suffering creature in peace…for now. Still, this would prove to be such fun later. Making a mental note to bring the Nihonshu with him when they left, Naruto was already plotting more pain and suffering for Kyuubi. Oh the fun that could, and would, be had. Snickering, Naruto finished up his chores and set about closing up the house once again. Though he planned to return in a few weeks, it was better to seal things up nice and tight in case it was longer before he could return.
Walking into the kitchen, Naruto prepared some tuna sandwiches. He was almost finished when Sasuke walked into the room. He still looked pale and his eyes were red rimmed, but his skin was no longer tinted green and that was a definite improvement. Naruto grabbed the aspirin and tossed it to Sasuke before setting their lunch on the table.
Sasuke tossed him a ‘Thanks’ in return as he sat beside Naruto to eat.
Lunch was finished quickly. Sasuke cleaned up the kitchen while Naruto carted their bags to the vehicle. Sasuke did a quick check through the house to prevent anything being left behind.
“Ready?” asked Naruto.
“Yes.”
“Here, your eyes might be a little sensitive. It’s pretty bright outside,” piped Naruto, tossing a pair of dark sunglasses to Sasuke.
Sasuke was touched by the concern. His heart thumped in his chest. Putting on the glasses, he gave Naruto a small smile. The two headed out the door and towards the vehicle parked outside the city gates.
Climbing in the SUV, Sasuke watched as Naruto stood before the gates. It was almost as if he was praying. Did this place really mean that much to him? The fragmented memories didn’t seem enough to draw conclusive information from.
Naruto turned from the gates and climbed in beside Sasuke. He grinned brightly as he turned over the engine. The SUV rumbled to life and then they were gone. Once they reached the main road, Naruto stopped to lock the iron gate. Performing a few hand signs, a genjutsu went up and the driveway disappeared. Sasuke’s eyes went wide. How did he do that?
“How did you do that?” gasped Sasuke as Naruto settled himself once more in the vehicle.
“What? The genjutsu?” asked Naruto.
“Is that what you call it?”
“It’s an illusion. Anyone driving by will just see dense forest. I never was good at genjutsu but after a thousand years I think even the worst student can pick up a thing or two,” Naruto mused aloud.
“I see.”
Sasuke rested his head against the window and gazed out at the countryside. This area really was beautiful. He made a silent wish to return to this place with Naruto. It seemed like home to him. The gentle sway of the vehicle lulled Sasuke to sleep. A hand shaking him was the next thing he recalled.
“Wake up Sasuke. We are near your apartment.”
“I slept the whole way?” asked Sasuke as he rubbed the grit from his eyes.
“Haha, yep,” laughed Naruto as he climbed out and grabbed Sasuke’s bag.
Sasuke followed in suit and was surprised to find himself well rested and not the least bit hung over. This was surprising since sleeping in vehicles usually left him feeling groggy and irritable. Leading Naruto up to his apartment, Sasuke opened the door and froze. There before him sat his brother, yelling at some poor individual on his cell phone. Itachi glanced up before promptly hanging up on whoever had been on the other line.
“Where in the fuck have you been?”
~Thank you for the reviews~
Alyneese You sound disappointed. As far as proving, Sasuke may be in denial abit but he knows the truth. As far as pictures, I don’t think they would survive the test of time. The only reason that certain places are still around and not ruins are because Naruto actually goes and repairs what needs to be done so not to lose them forever.
guitarmania07 Thanks I am certainly glad that you are enjoying it. Keep reading and I will continue to do my best to make this as enjoyable a story as I can.
angel I watched both English and jp version but I really don’t want to continue watching til I know how it ends lol. I also hope you continue to love this fic. I had to make decisions with that last chapter. To tell Sasuke or let him continue to be driven mad by the past. In the end I gave in and had him told. Some of my readers have mixed feelings about it but I am ok with how it turned out.
Akiru chan I agree and that’s why I had such a difficult time with that chapter. We as authors have to just do the best we can and hope that our readers enjoy our stories. Its difficult to write emotions that you yourself have never experienced.
satterb It was a very difficult chapter for me and I was extremely worried about that chapter. Also I figured Naruto had suffered enough. Time to make things start to look up for him.
Xzanayu I loved that scene where Sasuke talked to his old self. Its actually one of my all time favorites. That’s one thing I always wondered. If we met our past lives what would we talk about.
BadDragonBran love ya doll.
Nickles I completely agree with you, scene with old and new Sasuke was wonderful. No need to make them suffer all the time.
Annieme Woot another slave to my literary spell. lol I’m glad that you are enjoying it. Its become far more popular than I would have ever imagined XD.
AlysiaStorms I’m glad you do. I like it when ppl pay enough attention so that when I make mistakes they catch it. Yea the two aren’t out of the woods yet. More to come.
Pixie Really? I haven’t read the HP books past Order of the Phoenix. I guess great minds think alike ^^. Don’t give me any spoilers of how the other two end.
Sneakfox well only if you get your date drunk on the first date.
good chaos yea it might have been a little bit rushed but I didn’t want to force out repetitious chapters. Better to have it all out in the open so Sasuke can begin to deal with his soul’s past as well as Naruto. Better to know that continue to drive yourself mad.
AN: I apologize for taking so long to get this chapter out. I had a slight bit of block. I know where I want the story to go but wasn’t sure how to connect point A with point B. Big giant thank you to my beta BadDragonBran for betaing this chapter. I hope everyone enjoys this chapter.
Staggering to his feet, Sasuke wobbled his way towards the blonde, all the while attempting to figure out why the floor was so wobbly.
Naruto was enjoying himself immensely. A drunken Sasuke was just about the funniest thing he had ever seen. Who would have ever guessed that Uchiha Sasuke was a lightweight when it came to alcohol? Merriment danced in his eyes as he watched the brunette stand and sway back and forth in an attempt to balance himself, a feat that was extremely difficult when one is sloshed.
Sasuke was elated when he finally reached the blonde. To Sasuke it felt like he had walked a mile to reach the other. Naruto arched a brow when Sasuke stepped before him. Sasuke didn’t care, he wanted, no, needed to kiss those soft lips again. The memory of the kiss shared in the dojo was still vivid despite his alcohol fogged mind. His lips began to tingle from the memory. The chance to relive that kiss was in his grasp, all he had to do was take it.
“Sasuke? Are you alright?” asked Naruto, now concerned at the way the other was leering at him.
“Yesh,” Sasuke murmured.
“I think its time to put you to bed,” Naruto stated, a little disappointed in the drunken Sasuke. He had hoped for a more entertaining show.
“Hmm…I dun wanna,” purred Sasuke.
Naruto sighed and stood. Before he could grasp Sasuke’s arm to lead him to bed, Sasuke pushed Naruto back into the chair and straddled his legs. Naruto grunted as Sasuke pressed firmly against him. His body could do nothing other than react to the stimulation. The feel of Sasuke pressed firmly against him was like a little touch of heaven. Or hell. Naruto was unsure of which at this point.
“I’m gonna kiss you,” Sasuke drawled.
“What makes you think I’ll let you?” inquired Naruto.
Sasuke seemed to consider the question, more than likely having to put more thought into it due to the haze created by the sake. His eyes darkened for a moment before he leaned down, his breath mingling with Naruto’s.
“You will,” he whispered.
Naruto swallowed at the appearance of dark desire in the black eyes. Devoid of the pesky inhibitions, Sasuke was acting on complete instinct. His breath came in small puffs, carrying the scent of sake. His glistening, rose colored lips were parted and hovered just over Naruto’s own.
‘Please…kiss me…please.’ begged Naruto silently.
Sasuke seemed to understand and closed the distance between them. Fireworks went off inside of Naruto. Heaven, this was definitely heaven. No matter the outcome, this small taste of heaven was worth it all. The wonderful lips that moved across his own started a fire that boiled in his blood, more potent than any alcohol. Sasuke tasted of sake and midnight pleasures. Just this simple touch and Naruto’s mind was reduced to goo. Sasuke lifted his lips and Naruto was deprived of the touch he so longed for. He needed that touch again so that his long neglected heart would once more begin to feel alive.
Sasuke gazed down into the blue eyes that looked unblinkingly at him. His heart pounded in his chest. It wasn’t enough. One kiss wasn’t enough to satisfy this longing that pounded through him. He couldn’t have stopped himself from taking another even if he had wanted to. He wanted to savor the flavor of the blonde again. This was an addiction that he never wanted to be cured of.
The second kiss was not as gentle and sweet as its predecessor. Instead of light and delicate, this kiss was dark and deep. Naruto gasped as Sasuke pushed his tongue deeper. This taste was so much more potent, that he couldn’t help but respond in like. Grasping the back of Sasuke’s head, Naruto angled his face and took control of the kiss.
Thrusting his tongue inside the warm cavern of Sasuke’s mouth, Naruto released a groan into the kiss. This exploration of Sasuke was so addicting. He felt as if he could kiss him forever and never tire of the taste. The way Sasuke made him feel was so much more than simple lust or desire. It was a longing, a longing to be a part of him. Naruto pulled Sasuke even closer, trying to merge their bodies together so that they would never be apart again. His fingers plowed through the spiky blue-black locks and Naruto drank deep of Sasuke’s flavor. Only when the need for oxygen became too desperate did he pull away from the lips that continued to call to him.
Pulling back, Naruto gasped for breath. Sasuke’s lips, slightly swollen from the kiss, parted as he panted for his breath. Naruto leaned up to suck first the lower, then the upper lip, taking one last taste of paradise before pushing Sasuke from his lap. Sasuke stumbled to his feet, confused at being removed from the warm lap. Naruto stood and led Sasuke towards the bedroom. Sasuke leaned heavily on Naruto and followed him willingly towards the hallway.
Pushing Sasuke down on the soft mattress, Naruto pulled the socks, t-shirt, and jeans from the other, leaving him in only boxers, before pulling the sheet over him. Sasuke made a little sound of disappointment when Naruto pulled away.
‘Why is he leaving me?’ Sasuke’s alcohol drugged mind asked.
Sasuke looked up pitifully at Naruto and watched as he turned to leave the room. Desperate for the blonde to remain with him, Sasuke reached out and grabbed the corner of Naruto’s shirt. Clenching his fist around the soft material, Sasuke jerked his arm in an attempt to pull Naruto’s attention to him.
“Please…” whimpered Sasuke plaintively.
“I can’t,” Naruto murmured.
“Stay with me,” pleaded the brunette.
Naruto closed his eyes at the look of utter longing coming from Sasuke. It was so hard for him to pull away when such a needy look was directed at him. Naruto bit his lip and decided that he would deal with the consequences of his actions tomorrow. He pulled back the sheet and lay down beside Sasuke. Sasuke curled his body close to Naruto and released a contented sigh.
“Naruto…” he said in a hushed voice.
“Hmm?” hummed Naruto.
“I missed you.”
‘How many times will he take my breath away?’ thought Naruto.
Naruto felt the breath still in his lungs at the words. They were words from Sasuke’s soul that were unimpeded by rational thought. These words alone caused tears to run down Naruto’s face as he pulled Sasuke deeper into his embrace. Nuzzling his nose into Sasuke’s neck, Naruto breathed in the musky scent that was unique to Sasuke alone. Cuddling close, Naruto released a long shuddering sigh of contentment before drifting to sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Naruto awoke to a feeling of warmth cuddled against him. Opening his eyes, he gazed lovingly at the sight of black spikes, mussed from sleep, lying against pale skin. The dappling sunlight danced across the Uchiha’s skin, and illuminated every inch that it touched with a soft glow. Sasuke was, for lack of a better word, perfect.
If not for the intense need to relieve the pressure in his bladder, Naruto could have stayed in the bed cuddled beside the raven for another eternity. However, the physical need outweighed the emotional need and with a sigh, Naruto untangled himself from Sasuke before making his way towards the bathroom.
After finishing his morning routine, Naruto snuck a glance at Sasuke. The crinkling of his forehead told Naruto that it wouldn’t be long before he awoke. Walking into the kitchen, Naruto prepared a drink that Sasuke would no doubt soon need desperately.
Mixing several herbs into a glass of juice, Naruto carried the glass towards the bedroom just in time to see Sasuke shoot from the bed towards the bathroom. The sound of retching caused a small twinge of pity in Naruto. This was going to be a very nasty hangover. The strength of that particular Nihonshu might let you get drunk faster but it left you with the mother of all hangovers the next day, or so Naruto had been told anyway.
Grabbing a cloth from the linen closet, Naruto dampened the soft cotton in cool water from the sink before pressing it against Sasuke’s forehead. The only reply from Sasuke was a pitiful moan that tore at Naruto’s heart strings. Sasuke sounded like he was dying.
“I have something that will help in the bedroom,” said Naruto as he offered Sasuke a hand.
Sasuke looked at Naruto for a moment before turning once more towards the toilet as another series of convulsions wracked the pale body. Sasuke shuddered as the heaving in his stomach settled for a moment. Gratefully, Sasuke took the glass of water that Naruto offered and rinsed the bile residue from his mouth.
Naruto scooped Sasuke from the floor and easily carried him from the bathroom to the bed. Once he was settled on the bed, Naruto offered him the glass of juice along with some aspirin. Sasuke swallowed and shuddered at the thought of anything touching his stomach even if it was just juice and aspirin. He really didn’t want to spend any more time collapsed next to the toilet.
“I don’t think I can drink anything,” groaned Sasuke as he buried his face in the pillow to ward off the light that filtered in through the blinds.
“Trust me. You will be able to keep it down. I added some ginger, amongst other things that will help calm your stomach,” smiled Naruto.
Sasuke weakly sat up once more, blinking back tears as the light seared a burning path of pain straight to his brain. This had to be the worst he had ever felt in his entire life. Once he was feeling better, Naruto was going to be on the receiving end of an ass whooping. Sasuke smirked a little at that thought. Yes, he was definitely looking forward to showing Naruto exactly how appreciative he was of being coerced into drinking that vile concoction.
Taking a sip of the juice, Sasuke was surprised by the taste. The herbs mixed in with the juice gave it a slightly tangy flavor. Taking a deeper sip, Sasuke snatched the aspirin from Naruto’s hand and downed them quickly. After finishing the glass, Sasuke was surprised to find that his churning stomach had eased. Collapsing against the pillows, he waited in anticipation for the aspirin to begin to work its magic.
Now that his body was no longer heaving, Sasuke was able to think. He went over in his mind the events of the previous night. His heart began to thump in his chest as he recalled a certain kiss he initiated with the blonde. He had kissed Naruto. Bright red flushed across his cheeks as embarrassment set in.
‘Oh, God.’ groaned Sasuke to himself.
“Naruto…about last night…” Sasuke began.
“Don’t worry, Sasuke. I won’t hold it against you. Though the next time you kiss me I would like it to be while you are sober,” teased Naruto.
Sasuke groaned and buried his face in the pillow once more, praying that the earth would swallow him whole. He was mortified at the memory. Embarrassment aside, Sasuke had to admit that the kisses of the previous night had to be the most erotic he had ever experienced. Naruto would no doubt continue to tease him about them.
“Sasuke, I know you feel like shit and that is my fault but since today is Saturday, I thought you might like to go back home and have a day to rest before classes on Monday. It’s up to you. It’s a long drive and you can sleep most of the way.” offered Naruto.
“Will that ruin what you had planned here?” asked Sasuke, lifting his face from the pillow.
“No, most of what needs to be done will require supplies that I don’t have readily available. I will come back in a few weeks and complete those repairs,” the blonde explained.
Deciding, Sasuke attempted a minute nod. “Alright. Let’s head back today.”
“Just rest for a little while. We will leave after lunch,” Naruto prompted”
“Ugh…don’t even mention food.”
“Don’t worry, by lunch time your stomach will be all better,” was the comforting reply. Naruto smiled gently before leaving the room to take care of the various odds and ends that needed doing before they left.
As Naruto worked, he thought of the difference Sasuke’s presence made in his attitude. He had originally planned to come here to mourn and lose himself in thoughts of the past, but thanks to Tsunade and Jiraiya, Sasuke had ruined those plans. Things weren’t as he had intended them, but that wasn’t always a bad thing. Sasuke was definitely difficult to handle, but that was the same for both incarnations.
‘No shit,’ growled Kyuubi.
‘So finally showing your face?’ asked Naruto.
‘I figured you and Sasuke could use some alone time,’ the demon muttered.
‘Very magnanimous of you.’
‘Shut up brat and stay away from that shit you drank last night!’ growled Kyuubi.
‘Why?” inquired Naruto.
‘That shit makes my mind fuzzy.’
‘Haha, that’s what it’s supposed to do,’ Naruto laughed.
‘So that’s what happens. Kyuubi gets all the benefits of alcohol. Lucky bastard,’ Naruto pouted.
Well, considering that Kyuubi sounded somewhat miffed this morning, it looked like he got the detrimental effect of the drink as well. Naruto grinned as an evil thought popped in his head. Closing his eyes, Naruto felt himself falling into himself.
Attempting to be as silent as possible, Naruto crept towards the dark cage. He couldn’t help but notice that the room was much more dim than usual. A slight rustling caused Naruto to freeze before creeping closer. Peering into the darkness, Naruto grinned wickedly.
“GOOD MORNING, KYUUBI!” he screamed into the prison.
‘You fucking brat!’ snarled Kyuubi as two fur covered paws were pressed over his ears in a futile attempt to ease the pain that radiated through his skull.
“You got my hangover,” Naruto reflected with a chuckle, his voice louder than necessary “I only had two cups how in all of creation do you have a hangover?”
‘Could you keep your voice down? My head is spinning,” was the whimpered response
“Never thought I would see the day when I’d meet someone that Sasuke could drink under the table. You do realize that this is just sad?” Naruto grinned.
‘Get out and leave me alone,’ The Kyuubi snarled before turning his back to the cheerful blonde.
Naruto shook his head and left the suffering creature in peace…for now. Still, this would prove to be such fun later. Making a mental note to bring the Nihonshu with him when they left, Naruto was already plotting more pain and suffering for Kyuubi. Oh the fun that could, and would, be had. Snickering, Naruto finished up his chores and set about closing up the house once again. Though he planned to return in a few weeks, it was better to seal things up nice and tight in case it was longer before he could return.
Walking into the kitchen, Naruto prepared some tuna sandwiches. He was almost finished when Sasuke walked into the room. He still looked pale and his eyes were red rimmed, but his skin was no longer tinted green and that was a definite improvement. Naruto grabbed the aspirin and tossed it to Sasuke before setting their lunch on the table.
Sasuke tossed him a ‘Thanks’ in return as he sat beside Naruto to eat.
Lunch was finished quickly. Sasuke cleaned up the kitchen while Naruto carted their bags to the vehicle. Sasuke did a quick check through the house to prevent anything being left behind.
“Ready?” asked Naruto.
“Yes.”
“Here, your eyes might be a little sensitive. It’s pretty bright outside,” piped Naruto, tossing a pair of dark sunglasses to Sasuke.
Sasuke was touched by the concern. His heart thumped in his chest. Putting on the glasses, he gave Naruto a small smile. The two headed out the door and towards the vehicle parked outside the city gates.
Climbing in the SUV, Sasuke watched as Naruto stood before the gates. It was almost as if he was praying. Did this place really mean that much to him? The fragmented memories didn’t seem enough to draw conclusive information from.
Naruto turned from the gates and climbed in beside Sasuke. He grinned brightly as he turned over the engine. The SUV rumbled to life and then they were gone. Once they reached the main road, Naruto stopped to lock the iron gate. Performing a few hand signs, a genjutsu went up and the driveway disappeared. Sasuke’s eyes went wide. How did he do that?
“How did you do that?” gasped Sasuke as Naruto settled himself once more in the vehicle.
“What? The genjutsu?” asked Naruto.
“Is that what you call it?”
“It’s an illusion. Anyone driving by will just see dense forest. I never was good at genjutsu but after a thousand years I think even the worst student can pick up a thing or two,” Naruto mused aloud.
“I see.”
Sasuke rested his head against the window and gazed out at the countryside. This area really was beautiful. He made a silent wish to return to this place with Naruto. It seemed like home to him. The gentle sway of the vehicle lulled Sasuke to sleep. A hand shaking him was the next thing he recalled.
“Wake up Sasuke. We are near your apartment.”
“I slept the whole way?” asked Sasuke as he rubbed the grit from his eyes.
“Haha, yep,” laughed Naruto as he climbed out and grabbed Sasuke’s bag.
Sasuke followed in suit and was surprised to find himself well rested and not the least bit hung over. This was surprising since sleeping in vehicles usually left him feeling groggy and irritable. Leading Naruto up to his apartment, Sasuke opened the door and froze. There before him sat his brother, yelling at some poor individual on his cell phone. Itachi glanced up before promptly hanging up on whoever had been on the other line.
“Where in the fuck have you been?”

~Thank you for the reviews~
Alyneese You sound disappointed. As far as proving, Sasuke may be in denial abit but he knows the truth. As far as pictures, I don’t think they would survive the test of time. The only reason that certain places are still around and not ruins are because Naruto actually goes and repairs what needs to be done so not to lose them forever.
guitarmania07 Thanks I am certainly glad that you are enjoying it. Keep reading and I will continue to do my best to make this as enjoyable a story as I can.
angel I watched both English and jp version but I really don’t want to continue watching til I know how it ends lol. I also hope you continue to love this fic. I had to make decisions with that last chapter. To tell Sasuke or let him continue to be driven mad by the past. In the end I gave in and had him told. Some of my readers have mixed feelings about it but I am ok with how it turned out.
Akiru chan I agree and that’s why I had such a difficult time with that chapter. We as authors have to just do the best we can and hope that our readers enjoy our stories. Its difficult to write emotions that you yourself have never experienced.
satterb It was a very difficult chapter for me and I was extremely worried about that chapter. Also I figured Naruto had suffered enough. Time to make things start to look up for him.
Xzanayu I loved that scene where Sasuke talked to his old self. Its actually one of my all time favorites. That’s one thing I always wondered. If we met our past lives what would we talk about.
BadDragonBran love ya doll.
Nickles I completely agree with you, scene with old and new Sasuke was wonderful. No need to make them suffer all the time.
Annieme Woot another slave to my literary spell. lol I’m glad that you are enjoying it. Its become far more popular than I would have ever imagined XD.
AlysiaStorms I’m glad you do. I like it when ppl pay enough attention so that when I make mistakes they catch it. Yea the two aren’t out of the woods yet. More to come.
Pixie Really? I haven’t read the HP books past Order of the Phoenix. I guess great minds think alike ^^. Don’t give me any spoilers of how the other two end.
Sneakfox well only if you get your date drunk on the first date.
good chaos yea it might have been a little bit rushed but I didn’t want to force out repetitious chapters. Better to have it all out in the open so Sasuke can begin to deal with his soul’s past as well as Naruto. Better to know that continue to drive yourself mad.
