A common enemy
13: 共通 の 敵/ Kyōtsū no teki/ A common enemy
“Madara forced you... didn´t he?” Sasuke asked while sitting down on a chair in front of the bed in which Itachi was resting.
“… More than you know Sasuke,” Itachi admitted in defeat. He had never meant for Sasuke to know what had happened to him… but it seemed that both his otouto and Naruto knew everything so there was no point in acting like the evil brother anymore.
The fear… The confusion, despair and shame had been nearly too much to bear… but he would never have dragged his innocent (Well not so innocent anymore) brother into this if Naruto hadn´t brought it up.
He had had it all planned down into the tiniest detail what he would have done before his time to die would come.
He had forced/threatened the council and Madara to spare Sasuke´s life, to leave him untouched and allow him to choose his own path in life.
He had kept Sasuke and Konoha safe from the distance and then he had tried to provoke his beloved bother into killing him and thereby making Sasuke look like a hero… the perfect avenger to anyone… even himself.
But then this happened… and Itachi didn´t know what to do from here. He would die within a day if he didn´t acquire the antidote from Madara… who would surely f*** him senseless and let him suffer on the verge of death for weeks since he didn´t bring back neither the cute Jinchuuriki nor Sasuke.
Kisame was dead… which meant he was all alone now. The blue skinned man had been his friend and the only one who had tried to keep Madara at bay as long as possible so Itachi wasn´t abused an humiliated on a daily basis.
“Why didn´t you tell anyone about this?” Sasuke asked. He noticed that his Dobe had regained control over his hunger after their little playtime with Itachi and was now paying attention to the Uchiha brothers´ conversation.
Naruto was the one who had brought the ball into rolling because of his vision after all. He had been able to access Itachi´s nightmares and told Sasuke about everything… The real truth was finally out in the open and Sasuke was happy that he didn´t have to kill the brother he had idolized during his childhood.
“I tried,” Itachi sighed. “The council already knew… and didn´t give a damn as long as Madara was kept at bay. They were more concerned with father´s plans to overthrow the council.”
“Your father wanted to become Hokage?” Naruto asked with a hint of outrage. “But the Sandaime was a fair and-”
“Our father didn´t wish to become Hokage. He only wanted to get rid of the deceiving council who wanted the entire Uchiha clan dead…like they wanted the death of your family… and you as well Naruto.”
“…” Naruto´s beautiful blue eyes widened in shock. “They wanted… our families… and us…dead? Why?”
“Simply because they weren’t able to control our family or yours Naruto. Your father and our father were friends… and together they wanted to get rid of the council who were isolating our family from the rest of Konoha.” Itachi said. Sasuke stood up and wrapped his arms around his Dobe while everything from his isolated past finally began to make sense.
The hateful glances from the council members, the way the other kids kept their distance from both him and Naruto during their time at the academy… o-k there had been the fan girls but they never really made a real move on him… they were more like annoying stalkers that girls with a real crush.
“The council of Konoha… and Madara… wanted to destroy our families because they were… to strong, to independent… and close friends?” Naruto asked. He leaned into his lover´s embrace while staring at the ceiling in disbelief.
How could the council do something like that? This was… evil and so wrong… to destroy two clans just to be able to keep their position at the board.
“Yes,” Itachi said. He struggled to sit up though his entire body ached from the pain of the bites, scratches and the poison.
The slashes on his now bandaged chest stung, his arms were still severely damaged and he felt dizzy from blood loss but still he willed himself to sit up to look at his little bother and his cute blonde.
“How did you manage to make them stay away from Sasuke?” the blonde asked. “I mean the council since I know what you had to do to keep Madara at bay.”
“…” Itachi felt a shudder of disgust run through his body when he remembered what Madara forced him to do. Sasuke and Naruto both felt sorry for the older nin when they saw the frown on his face.
“I told them that I would pay them a late night visit and play a little with their families if they ever touched what was left of mine,” Itachi said while looking at Sasuke´s surprised expression. A smirk grew on the younger sibling’s face which made Itachi smirk as well.
“You didn´t,” Naruto chuckled.
“Oh I sure did,” the older nin chuckled. “… So what now? Are you going to feed on me again before you kill me?”
“…” Naruto turned his face to look at Sasuke with a pleading look. “Teme?”
“Do you want revenge aniki?”
“Of course! I would love to hunt down that son of a bitch who bears the name Madara and tear him apart… and I would love to make my threat towards the council real,” Itachi hissed. “Would you grant me one last wish before you kill me? I want you to kill Madara and peferringly torture him quite a bit before he dies.”
“No,” Sasuke said which made Itachi frown at him. “You can do it yourself… but we’ll help you if don´t mind since we have a few issues with Madara and the council as well. No one messes with my family and gets away with it.”

Sakura stood in front of the council with tear streaked cheeks. She had told them her version of the current situation from where Sasuke had kidnapped her, how Naruto had heroically saved her and how Sasuke had taken Naruto away from her after messing with his mind.
She had made Naruto into the pure hearted knight in shining armor who had sacrificed his own life for her and Konoha.
Homura (head of council) took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose while thinking about the councils options.
Minato´s son had never been as troublesome as the Uchihas´, and Naruto had, even though he used to be a brat, never did anything that would indicate that he would abandon Konoha or would ever turn against them. On the contrary, the blonde boy had more than once been willing to sacrifice his life for their safety.
Perhaps the blonde´s friends were right about him… perhaps he really was some sort of a hero.
The Uchihas on the other hand were a different matter and Homura had never trusted anyone of them.
The Uchihas were a bunch of traitors, each and every one of them and it sounded reasonable that Uchiha Sasuke would try to destroy Konoha, kidnap the weak minded Jinchuuriki and force him to free the demon to bring more destruction to the world.
Homura recalled his last conversation with Itachi before the massacre. The Uchiha heir (Itachi) had brought his best friend along as support when he told Homura about Madara´s threat to attack not only the Uchihas but Konoha as well.
The council member hadn´t been impressed and since Shisui had shouted at him he had simply killed Shisui before threatening Itachi to annihilate ALL the Uchiha´s if the teenage boy didn´t kill of the traitorous clan in return for sparing Sasuke´s life… which had been a mistake or so it seemed.
He had of course had the intention to kill the little brat after the ANBU would have killed Itachi for the attack on the clan… but sadly things hadn´t quite tuned out as planned.
Itachi had escaped and joined the Akatsuki… he had returned with Kisame and threatened to destroy not only Konoha but Homura and his family if something happened to Sasuke which was the only reason why the little brat was still alive… and it was also the reason why Tsunade hadn´t been allowed to send any Chuunin (other than Shikamaru) to retrieve Sasuke after his deflection to the Sound.
“Thank you Haruno-san,” he told the girl.
“Homura-sama?”
“Yes?” he asked her.
“Naruto-kun… w-we wanted to get married… will he be allowed to return here? It´s not like he has any fault in any of this other than saving all of us?” Sakura asked though she knew she was lying because Naruto and she had never even begun to talk about getting married before he left… but she just had to have him… Naruto had to become her husband no matter what she had to do to make it happen.
“… You told me that Uchiha Sasuke would return here with Uzumaki-kun to collect the bounty for Itachi and Kisame, isn´t that right?”
“Yes sir.”
“Then when they return I want you to do something for me… and in return I will allow Uzumaki-kun to return here and I will arrange for him to get married to you right upon his return.”
“What do you want me to do Homura-sama?”

“What do you mean with no?” Itachi asked his brother. “Don´t you want to avenge our clan by killing me?”
“No,” Sasuke said while resting his chin on Naruto´s shoulder. “I want to avenge them but not by killing you. In my opinion you have suffered enough to make it up for what you did. You were only used as a tool… which is a shinobi´s purpose after all… No I want to kill the ones who are the masterminds behind everything.”
“You want to kill Madara and the councilmen involved otouto?”
“Not just kill them… I want to make them suffer like we did… though no punishment would fully make it up for our pain and loss,” Sasuke hissed.
“… Oh I don´t know little brother. I would say the Tsukiyomi and the ´Shisha no Koe` will be a good way to get a little bit even with them. How did you come up with a genjutsu like that anyway?”
“Hm you might have a point aniki,” Sasuke´s lips curled up in a devious smirk. “And the ´Shisha no Koe` was released when I was tuned into a creature of the night. Do you want to gain more power as well as eternal life Itachi?”
