Love’s Heated Rivalry
Artemis: Sickness is down and gone soon, hopefully. Sorry about that. When I get that sick, I lose the will to do anything really but sleep and eat. Thanks to everyone who offered up information on basketball. And no, I’m not joining the basketball team. XD I’m a college student studying game design. We don’t have basketball teams here. Just nerd centered Halo shoot-off competitions. ^^
Anyways, plot line up till chapter 38 has been made! Problem is, this will have a sequel if I don’t choose to just continue it here. It’s now definitely a two parter, and the first part will end on a slightly sad note yes. But the ending of the whole story I guarantee you will be happy! ^^ The second part however, will not be less fluff more action compared to this first half. It will be a bit darker in element but also more depth and intimacy between characters and plot then this first half. Characters will be three years older, including Naruto who will also be slightly more grown up and not as naïve, but since he’s a blonde there will always be moments. XD Probably have to make it separate just to apply a NC-17 rating to. =P
But good news is, you’ll all get some good SasuNaru out of this whole thing. ^^
So…hope you guys are in for a story. ^^

Chapter 12: Love’s Heated Rivalry
“SASUKE, he’s trying to give me a noogie!!” Naruto screeched the next morning, glomping Sasuke at his table.
Naruto cackled evilly.
“Uh oh…” Naruto frowned at the burning omelet.
Naruto’s eyes widened at the site of it and panicked, “Someone call 911!!!!”
Sasuke groaned and banged his head on the table, looking at the Naruto that had glomped him. “Isn’t there some way you can get rid of the others?”
Naruto whined, looking at his other three clones with a slight pout. “But this is good, neh? Now I can cook, clean, and be with Sasuke all at once.”
“Naruto, if God meant for there to be more then one of you, you’d be a twin,” Sasuke tried to explain. One Naruto was enough for him, four was getting a little maddening. Especially when four Narutos glomp you in the morning shouting four different things.
“Call them off.”
“But Sasuke!” Four similar voices pouted in unison.
“Please! I just want my Naruto, not copies,” Sasuke begged with a slight pout. Yes, he was that desperate.
Naruto sighed and canceled the technique, three Naruto’s vanishing in a puff of white smoke. Sasuke pulled his Naruto into his lap and hugged him, expressing his gratefulness.
“Dobe, I just need you,” Sasuke assured him.
Naruto smiled and snuggled in Sasuke’s arms, jumping as the fire alarm went off. Sasuke’s eyes widened and he cursed, pushing Naruto lightly off him and rushing to the omelet that had caught on fire.
Oh well…looks like they’d be eating at school again.
During the past two days things had pretty much settled down in Sasuke’s life. Between school, training with Kakashi, and dealing with Naruto’s new favorite duplicating technique, he’d had little time to notice the change in him. The training both in physical combat and chakra manipulation had toned his school boy body…something he’d only noticed thanks to the female population. He was doing better in PE as well and even felt a bit more energetic, which was a good thing when dealing with two to five hyper Narutos. He’d also developed a slight habit of hugging Naruto…a lot. But Naruto didn’t seem to mind at all.
His relations with Gaara had eased a little as well, going from suspicious dislike to coexistence. Gaara was a part of his angel’s life now, helping pay rent and keep Naruto’s apartment clean. That in itself earned him some respect from Sasuke. He could finally visit Naruto at his place without spending most of the time cleaning. He’d also managed to maintain his head whenever he walked in on Gaara feeding on Naruto. But he still felt a little edgy when those two spent time together. Not that he was jealous.
Sasuke sighed and trashed the omelet, adjusting his arm warmers before grabbing up his school bag and Naruto’s. “Come on, dobe. Let’s head out.”
Naruto got up and nodded, hooking his arm around Sasuke’s and leading them happily out of the apartment and on their way to school. Shikamaru and Hinata were waiting as usual for their arrival, and afterwards most of the day went by uneventfully.
Sasuke stretched in his gym clothes, then stood and smirked as he watched Naruto attempt to do jumping jacks without hitting someone else with his arm. He could be such a blonde sometimes.
“Hey asshole. Can we chat?” Neji asked, walking over to Sasuke.
Sasuke frowned, narrowing his eyes on Neji slightly. This guy wasn’t exactly a friend to him and he still hadn’t totally forgiven Neji for hurting Naruto…possessed or not.
“What do you want?”
Neji glanced over to make sure Naruto wasn’t listening in and led Sasuke a few steps out of earshot just in case, “Do you know if… Naruto is busy tonight?”
Sasuke raised an eyebrow and coldly shrugged off Neji’s hand, “Why?”
“Well…I wanted to ask him out,” Neji replied, crossing his arms with a slight smile.
Sasuke narrowed his eyes, “Ask him out?”
“Yep. On a date, you know?” Neji grinned.
“A date?” Sasuke frowned, not liking the turn in this conversation.
Neji blushed very lightly, “Yep. Honestly, I’ve never really thought into stuff like that. But…I believe it was destiny that brought him to my side.”
“He’s not interested,” Sasuke growled and turned to head back over to Naruto.
Neji frowned and stepped in his way, “What…are you his spokesperson or something? Maybe he is.”
Sasuke grit his teeth and glared at the brunette, “Naruto is not interested in you, snake bait. Beat it.”
Neji narrowed his eyes, returning the glare, “Oh? So he’s only interested in a heartless bastard like you?”
“What are you saying?” Sasuke challenged, fisting his hands.
Neji smirked, seeing he’d struck a nerve, “Who do you think comforted the little angel when you crushed his heart?”
Sasuke growled out, trying to keep from punching this guy. He didn’t need a reminder of that.
“Naruto dotes over you, but all you do is take advantage of him. Knowing you, you’re probably using the poor kid,” Neji huffed, scowling at him. “I don’t like how you treat Naruto. He’s a sweat and caring person, and he deserves to be treated with love and respect. Not kept at a whim for your amusement like some dog.”
Sasuke growled and stepped forward, butting into Neji’s personal space with a dangerous glare, “Take your little crush elsewhere. Stay away from Naruto and out of our business.”
Neji took up the challenge, “Make me.”
The whistle blew just then, the Coach stepping forward towards the grouping of young men. “Ok, boys. Today we’ll be playing a few games of basketball.”
“OH! I’m on Sasuke’s team!” Naruto shouted, bouncing on his feet.
“Yes, yes, Naruto. We already know,” The Coach sighed, used to the blonde’s extreme amount of energy by now. “We’ll be dividing the class alphabetically by last name. A through N will be the red team and O through Z will make up the blue team. Which means-“
“I’m with Sasuke?” Naruto cut him off, blinking curiously.
The coach sighed again, “Yes. You’re with Sasuke.”
“YIPPY!!” Naruto cheered, glomping Sasuke to the grass, completely oblivious of the tension between Sasuke and Neji at the moment.
Sasuke smirked victoriously at Neji, who in turn glared at him angrily.
"Just watch. I'll win this game and Naruto," Neji whispered as he walked past Sasuke.
Sasuke tightened his hold on Naruto a little, keeping his gaze straight ahead. There was no way he would allow that.
“All right…everybody get ready. Let’s have a clean game, boys,” The Coach called out as everyone got into their desired positions.
Sasuke and Neji met gazes, eyes narrowing hatefully at each other.
“All right. START!”
Kakashi sighed, walking towards the gating on the roof and scratching his head. He just couldn’t figure his Iruka-chan out. Did the brunette enjoy playing hard to get this much? But it didn’t matter…he’d win the heart of his delicious dolphin for certain!
Stopping in the process of lowering his hand from his hair, Kakashi caught sight of Naruto and Sasuke’s gym class running about on the basketball field. Thinking this would be amusing to watch, Kakashi formed an invisibility spell and then spread his wings, flying over towards a tree near the court. Landing on a branch, he sat down and got comfortable, taking in the ‘battlefield’.
Most of the boys obviously didn’t know what the hell they were doing, while others seemed to have a fair grasp of the concept. Naruto was being harassed by a wiry looking kid while Sasuke seemed to be locked in an intense looking battle with that kid from before, Hyuuga Neji.
“Hah…to slow,” Neji taunted, snatching the ball from Sasuke’s teammate and running towards the basket.
Sasuke was hot on his trail, hands fisted tightly in growing anger. There was no way he was going to look weak next to Neji! He waited for Neji to break for the toss, then barreled into the brunette’s way, knocking the ball from the other’s outstretched fingers. It bounced along the court, both boys exchanging a hateful look as they made after it.
Completely ignoring the other members of his team, Sasuke snatched up the ball and twisted around Neji, making his way to the opposing basket. A mess of both teams ran to intercept them both, causing a huge blockage in the middle of the court as the enemy team tried to retrieve the ball from Sasuke while his teammates tried to block and stop them.
Sasuke cursed and moved quickly aside as Neji swung at him, giving off the feel that he’d been aiming at him rather then the ball. Gritting his teeth, Sasuke skitted back a few feet and took a luck shot towards the basket. The ball hit the rim and bounced into the backboard and off to the side, one of his teammates rushing in just in time to save it.
“Smooth,” Neji laughed, taking off after the teammate.
“Shut up!” Sasuke snapped, running after him.
Sasuke managed to break in front of Neji, moving to receive the ball. Neji furiously sped his pace up, ramming into Sasuke’s side and sending the other crashing to the ground. Intercepting the ball, Neji smirked arrogantly at Sasuke and followed the rush of boys back towards the other basket.
Naruto noticed Sasuke go down and escaped his blocker, rushing over to the other’s side and helping him up, “Sasuke! You ok?”
“Not now,” Sasuke snapped lightly, knocking Naruto’s hands off him once he was back on his feet. He felt his blood boiling over and he saw red. That was it. Clean game off, he was going to kill that bastard Hyuuga!
Taking off towards Neji, Sasuke snuck a little chakra into his feet to increase his speed. Yes, he knew he wasn’t supposed to use his new skills unless protecting Naruto or fighting an enemy, but fuck it…he’d face the lecture as long as he’d buried Neji three feet in the ground first!
Kakashi frowned at the sight of them. What a mess. He hoped Sasuke’s teamwork abilities were better then his basketball team abilities. Both he and the Hyuuga kid seemed totally engrossed in their little one-on-one war. They were both forgetting the rules of the game, and now Sasuke was using his chakra outside of a combat situation.
Letting out a sigh, Kakashi slumped and continued to watch and see what would happen next between the two of them.
Sasuke couldn’t hear the shouts anymore, only his heartbeat and breath echoing in his ear. His blood was hot and his muscles were aching from being strained without a proper warm-up first. His scraped knee and arm throbbed painfully, adding to the list, but was ignored as he thought only of crushing Neji and his plans towards his angel.
He swerved around a student just as Neji settled into a prepared shot, his eyes suddenly starting to hurt out of no where. Blinking to try and lesson the pain, Sasuke saw Neji shoot and lunged forward to stop him. He saw the ball leave Neji’s hand and suddenly he felt like he knew exactly where that ball’s path was. Raising his hand up to block, he aimed for where the ball was going rather then where it was.
Surprising everyone including himself, Sasuke successfully blocked the shot. One of his teammates snagged the run-a-way ball and made for their basket, shooting and making it in just as the Coach blew the end whistle.
“All right, boys! Enough for today! Hit the showers,” The Coach shouted, waving them off with his clipboard.
Sasuke stood there panting heavily, unable to believe what had just happened. Had that been luck?
“SASUKE! That was so awesome!” Naruto shouted, running over and tackling him to the ground in a hug.
Neji scowled softly, caught between exhaustion and defeat. He sent Sasuke a dirty look before heading off with the rest of the guys to the locker room.
Sasuke barely noticed, to busy with an armful of a ranting Naruto and the sudden exhaustion that hit him.
Back up in the tree, Kakashi’s eye widened slightly in surprise. Had he been seeing things…or had Sasuke’s eyes flashed red for just a second there?
There was something about this human…Kakashi was certain of it now. But he couldn’t put his finger on just what. But maybe he’d just jumped to conclusions.
After all, there was no way a living human could possess the cursed Sharingan.

NOTE: Forgive me if the B-ball part of this chapter isn't that great. ^^ Writing sports in action isn't my strongest point. And thanks again to everyone for being patient about me being sick and also helping with the basketball. ^_^

O.o Sharingan. XD Despite what Kakashi said about the no living human, Sasuke is alive. Explaination about Sharingan will show up later, given by Kakashi of course. Of course, that might not have been sharingan. Kakashi could have imagined it. *whistles mysteriously*

But he can still use lightning and yes, later on chidori. He hasn't learned Chidori yet though, I do tell you that. Gravitation rules, though I would have liked it better if it had been my Hiro/Shuichi pairing. =( *Hiro fan here ^^* Sasuke isn't as mean as Yuki though. *glares at Yuki with a pout* K rules! ^^

Kakashi frowned at the sight of them. What a mess. He hoped Sasuke’s teamwork abilities were better then his basketball team abilities. Both he and the Hyuuga kid seemed totally engrossed in their little one-on-one war. They were both forgetting the rules of the game, and now Sasuke was using his chakra outside of a combat situation.
Letting out a sigh, Kakashi slumped and continued to watch and see what would happen next between the two of them.
Sasuke couldn’t hear the shouts anymore, only his heartbeat and breath echoing in his ear. His blood was hot and his muscles were aching from being strained without a proper warm-up first. His scraped knee and arm throbbed painfully, adding to the list, but was ignored as he thought only of crushing Neji and his plans towards his angel.
He swerved around a student just as Neji settled into a prepared shot, his eyes suddenly starting to hurt out of no where. Blinking to try and lesson the pain, Sasuke saw Neji shoot and lunged forward to stop him. He saw the ball leave Neji’s hand and suddenly he felt like he knew exactly where that ball’s path was. Raising his hand up to block, he aimed for where the ball was going rather then where it was.
Surprising everyone including himself, Sasuke successfully blocked the shot. One of his teammates snagged the run-a-way ball and made for their basket, shooting and making it in just as the Coach blew the end whistle.
“All right, boys! Enough for today! Hit the showers,” The Coach shouted, waving them off with his clipboard.
Sasuke stood there panting heavily, unable to believe what had just happened. Had that been luck?
“SASUKE! That was so awesome!” Naruto shouted, running over and tackling him to the ground in a hug.
Neji scowled softly, caught between exhaustion and defeat. He sent Sasuke a dirty look before heading off with the rest of the guys to the locker room.
Sasuke barely noticed, to busy with an armful of a ranting Naruto and the sudden exhaustion that hit him.
Back up in the tree, Kakashi’s eye widened slightly in surprise. Had he been seeing things…or had Sasuke’s eyes flashed red for just a second there?
There was something about this human…Kakashi was certain of it now. But he couldn’t put his finger on just what. But maybe he’d just jumped to conclusions.
After all, there was no way a living human could possess the cursed Sharingan.

O.o Sharingan. XD Despite what Kakashi said about the no living human, Sasuke is alive. Explaination about Sharingan will show up later, given by Kakashi of course. Of course, that might not have been sharingan. Kakashi could have imagined it. *whistles mysteriously*

Everlasting Skies - Actually, someone else gets lightning. To me, Sasuke has lots of fire attacks compared to lightning attacks, and it fits better with the story. But he can still use lightning and yes, later on chidori. He hasn't learned Chidori yet though, I do tell you that. Gravitation rules, though I would have liked it better if it had been my Hiro/Shuichi pairing. =( *Hiro fan here ^^* Sasuke isn't as mean as Yuki though. *glares at Yuki with a pout* K rules! ^^

Rasengan22 - I take several elements from the manga/anime for inspiration plot wise of this story. ^^ And yeah, when things match up with the original story its kinda cool. ^_^ Sasuke actually doesn't have Chidori yet. He gets it later though. But he needs sharingan for it, after all. ^^ Jutsu paper split in half for Naruto? Oo Don't know. The angels fight like ninjas in my story. Heck, even Neji fought with the gentle hand style when he was possessed by the snake demon. Ya noticed? I try to make the angels the 'ninjas' of the story still. ^^
