Sorry so short, look for another update tonight. Trying to get it finished tonight. Enjoy!

The trip to the port seemed to take forever and Sakura fretted over the examination she would be doing. Something in his eyes told her that Sasuke would run given half a chance. She didn’t want that, not when they’d just gotten him back. She also dreaded what the exam would mean… telling him the truth, about himself.

She had told Itachi what they planned to do and he agreed with both the waiting to see the status of Sasuke’s body and with the fact that he would run if able.

They stood together on the deck looking out over the cold water, “I can’t do it Itachi” she whispered softly and he cast his eyes to the side to see her profile, “I can’t lose him again. Not again.”

Itachi made a soft sound, “And you won’t Sakura. My word on it.”

She turned to look up at him, smiling at him in a way that made the sun seem pale in comparison.

“Does it worry you?” he asked, “Being with me?”

She blushed over the change of topic and shook her head,

“Not really. I know that you won’t slit my throat mid coitus.” she joked.

He arched a brow, “Not with you no.”

She went slightly pale and turned from her, “I was joking Sakura. Dark humor is always the best humor.”

They reached the port, Shino and Shika running ahead to secure rooms at the inn. They also made arrangements at the local clinic for Sakura to have access for her patient. Hearing that the apprentice of the great Godaime was coming, they gladly offered all they had.

Sasuke said nothing to her as he was led from the ship. The chakra ropes reinforced, keeping his own chakra minimal. The odds of his escape were slim now, but he knew when they reached the clinic, she would remove the ropes. He only needed to wait.

~

Naruto and Shino stood at the end of the hall, blocking the only door into the examination rooms. Sasuke was alone with Sakura only because they were fairly certain that he would not do her any serious harm.

He had been asked questions about the seal of late and they took this as a good sign. Perhaps he was seeing that they only intended to help him.

Sakura handed Sasuke the loose gown and gestured behind the screen, “Put this on please” her voice was cool, confident, nothing but professional. He had sat quietly as she drew several vials of blood from him, setting them aside carefully.

“Can you activate the seal for me?”

He said nothing, merely let the marring patterns sweep across the handsome features of his face. Sakura traced them lightly, sadly and then drew yet another vial.

“You can release now” she told him, turning her back to gather a small plastic cup.

When she faced him she looked freshly sun burnt. “I also need …erm…some… well .. You know”.

She shook the little cup at him and his dark eyes widened for a moment, she couldn’t possibly mean.

“I’ll need a semen sample to check your ability to reproduce, those with the seal generally can’t.”

She did mean!

He shook his head, “Kabuto never said anything about that to me” he said in a cold voice, no way was he going to fill that little cup for her. No way.

She put her hands on her hips, “Look Sasuke, Kabuto hasn’t said a lot of stuff about a great many things. Please do this. I can get the sample from you without your full cooperation but I would rather keep this friendly wouldn’t you?”

She’d once had a similar pep talk with the famed copy ninja during an exam. He’d seen things her way quickly enough.

Sasuke towered over her, snatching the little cup and stalking off behind the screen, “You could at least offer to help.” he muttered.

She chuckled, wounded male pride was quite predictable, “I don’t think you’d like it much after all was said and done.”

He grunted in response, “Are you going to stay in here?” he asked then.

She sighed, “No, I’ll be right outside. Sasuke… this is to help you. Please understand that.”

“I understand that I have become a damn lab rat for you.”

She let the door close behind her and leaned against it. How long would it take him? She supposed when he was finished, he’d call out to her, knock on the wall, give some clue.

She paced the hall for nearly fifteen minutes when she heard him bark from beyond the door, “Oi!”

She nearly sighed with relief, eager to know once and for all. She pushed the door open and stepped inside, closing it softly. She was almost afraid to turn around and take that cup from him.

“You can come out Sasuke” she said softly. She stiffened when a wave of chakra swept over her and a hard chest pressed against her back. His hand coming up to cover her mouth stifling any sound of warning she might have made. She struggled, but he was much stronger in this position.

She tried to focus her chakra into her hands to wound him, but he grabbed her wrists behind him in his free hand, pressing the wrists together constricting the flow of chakra. “I take you without your full cooperation but I would rather keep this friendly wouldn’t you?” he asked, his voice dark and mocking.

She shivered from the coldness of it. Sasuke dragged her towards the small window, too small to allow a human to pass through and therefore unguarded.

He smirked, “You are coming with me Sakura and you will see for yourself that I am quite capable of reproducing. And when they come for you, and I know they will, I’ll kill them both. But you little blossom, you’ll be just fine as long as you do what I say.”

Then for the second time in her life, he had hit that little nerve between neck and shoulder, and the world went black. She slumped and he wrapped his arm around her waist, drawing her back against him tightly, then hoisted her over his shoulder.

He strode to the wall and placed his hand near the window. His palm pulsed blue and he uttered a jutsu for silence and blew a hole to the outside world. He leapt through the opening and sprinted down a narrow alleyway. He could feel the signature of sound not far ahead. Good, with his own men he could lay waste to the pursuers.

He rounded a corner and came face to face with a bright teal eye narrowed. This person wore Akatuski robes. Sasuke let his chakra pool in his palm, the chirping of birds sounding all around them.

So much for stealth. His grip on Sakura tightened and he lunged at the blonde man.

Deidara leapt skyward avoiding the blast that would have leveled him. “I’m going to teach you a thing about art yeah” he said lightly.

Inside he was furious. He didn’t trust the little Uchiha at all, and had taken up a place near the window just in case the unthinkable occurred. And it had.

He flung a small bird into the air, and it swooped low, forcing Sasuke to defend on two fronts. Deidara lunged and kicked at him, even as his creation clawed and beat it’s large wings. All the while carefully avoiding Sakura.

“She’ll be hurt” Deidara called out, “Give her up.”

Sasuke growled, gathering chakra once more.

“Sasuke.” came the cold voice of his brother from above and he glanced up to see Itachi astride another clay bird.

Sasuke snarled, tearing his eyes away, “Come down and die Itachi” he spat.

And Itachi did.

He stepped from the back of the bird, somersaulted in the air to land in a neat crouch mere feet from Sasuke and Sakura.

“Fight me as a man then Sasuke” he goaded, “If you are so capable.”

The uchihas glared at each other, the sharingan swirling. He had not activated the Mangekyo which meant that if Saskue acted quickly enough he could take him.

“Teme!” Came the angry voice of Naruto and suddenly the narrow space was filled with scowling blonde fighters.

As Sasuke worked to dodge them all, one had cleverly stolen Sakura back. The clone vanished with familiar popping sounds leaving a pissed off shinobi facing him.

Sakura was in Naruto's arms, “Deidara” he snapped, “Take her.” He all but tossed her to the other man and Deidara caught her easily, holding her close as he leapt skyward, this time coming to rest on the back of a large bird.

“I’m missing a good fight yeah” he grumbled.

~

It didn’t take as long as Naruto had thought it would. They had subdued Sasuke by sheer force of numbers with his clones. Naruto would not risk the use of the mangekyou again and felled his friend with a stiff blow to the back of his head with the bade of a kunai.

The dark haired man crumpled to the snowy street. Naruto dragged him upwards over his shoulder and returned to the clinic with him.

Itachi at his heels, “We need the sample” he muttered.

Naruto breathed out a large cloud of steam, “I know that.”

~

Once Sasuke was settled in the bed, Sakura and Deidara came to stand over him. “Are you sure this will work?” she asked.

The blonde nodded, “Hasn’t failed yet”.

She blinked and grimaced, “What’s the point of creating something like that?” she wanted to know.

Deidara smirked, “When you live around a bunch of guys, you learn very creative ways to pull pranks.”

She shook her head, taking hold of the cup and setting it beside the table.

“Just tell me when I can collect it ok?” she asked.

Deidara chuckled, putting his hands together in a set of seals, “Wet dream no jutsu!”.

Naruto had laughed til his ribs hurt to hear about that one, Itachi merely shrugged.

No matter how odd and disturbing it was, it was a success.

Sakura, red faced and silent slipped from the room, a small cup in her hands.

Deidara staring at the ceiling. Once he’d initiated the justu, he’d remained in the room only to make sure she was safe.

They watched the Uchiha writhe and pant on the linens, his brow beaded with sweat. It must have been one hell of a dream, his hips rolled and when his body bowed off the bed, Sakura leapt forward at Deidara’s command. “This is it yeah.”

She shoved the cup under the sheet, looking the other way and trying to think clinical thoughts as she felt the cup slowly grow warmer. It was a thing she never wanted to repeat. Ever.

She stalked past Deidara, “I don’t even want to know.”

The moment of humor was soon lost however.

She had gone directly to the lab, running her tests in careful conditions. The proof was there before her, irrefutable.

Sasuke was sterile.

She felt tears gather at the thought of it, she carefully arranged the test results, knowing he would need to see them to believe them. It would be a huge blow.

She opened the door and stepped into the hall, “I was right” was all she said.

~

Hours later, she sat across from Sasuke, watching his face carefully as he read the results.

He shoved them away, “It’s bullshit” he said bluntly. She ignored Naruto and Itachi who flanked the door and rose to her feet, she walked around the table and knelt before Sasuke.

He stared down at her with wide wounded eyes.

“I can only wish it was” she whispered to him, reaching up to cup his cheek. He flinched as though she had burned him, but she slid her fingers into his thick hair, pressing their foreheads together, “Please Sasuke. Please believe that this is true. We can go to Sound if you want. You can confront Kabuto. I would never lie to you.”

She drew back to meet his eyes and then left him alone to consider all that she had just shown him. Itachi followed her into the hall, Naruto remained to stare at his friend. Silence stretched between them.

“If it is true” Sasuke whispered, “Would you mock me, for being so foolish?”

He lifted black eyes filled with fathoms of hurt to lock with brilliant blue. Naruto shook his head, “I wouldn’t” he said, “That isn’t what friends do. Friends try to help.”

Sasuke snorted “And what great hero of the masses would you do?” he asked. His voice laced with painful sarcasm.

Naruto sighed and turned to go, “Whatever I could” he admitted, silently adding, ‘if only you knew.’

~

Out in the hall, Itachi brushed past Sakura.

“Tonight” he said and continued on his way.

She nodded but he hadn’t turned to see it. She scrubbed her hand over her face, feeling drained and tired, leaned against the wall.

When she straightened, she swayed and Naruto caught her around the waist, “Easy there killer.” he said in a soft voice.

She looked up at him, “I’m so tired” she whispered to him.

Naruto nodded, lifting her up in his arms, “You should get some rest, you’ll need it” he told her, “For tonight.”
