Chapter 13


~”Naruto what has gotten into you? I’ve never seen you this upset before.” Iruka asked with concern as he and Kakashi had managed to drag Naruto into his private office. The blond was now slumped in a chair, his golden haired bangs falling like spun gold over his face as he looked down at the ground. Iruka could still see the trembling in his body and was very worried about him.

~”Don’t get us wrong Naruto, we are upset about the whole mess as well, your life as well as Sasuke’s were in danger and that is nothing to take lightly, but it was an unfortunate accident, some smart ass kids probably thought it would be cool to mess around with Professor Orochimaru’s snakes but when confronted with the actual snakes they panicked and ended up letting some loose instead. Luckily no one was hurt.” Kakashi added, trying to sooth his long time student and friend, Naruto was like a brother to him and it did not set well with him that he as well as Sasuke had come close to being harmed.

~”That’s bullshit and you know it…..” Naruto gritted out threw clenched teeth. Anger making his voice gruff and gravelly. He still didn’t look up at them and his body still shook.

~”Do you guys honestly think that Professor Orochimaru doesn’t have a CLUE about how those snakes got out? I mean come on! Everyone who knows anything about that bastard, knows how anal he is with his stupid snakes, he takes better care of them then himself, he always keeps them well housed and tamper proof, special shatter proof glass, tanks that have state of the art heating and temperature controls, do you honestly think that he would of housed them here if he had not made damn sure that NO one could get to them? I think the bastard knows something, he may not be behind it, although I wouldn’t put it past him, but he has something to do with it or knows who does.” Naruto added in a growl as his fists balled up and turned white from all the anger he had in him.

~”Come on Naruto, he’s a well respected Professor and scientist, what reason would he have to lie about some one breaking into his office and letting his snakes out? What reason would he have to let them loose?” Kakashi asked him.

~”But you don’t think he let them out randomly do you Naruto? You believe he purposely had the deadliest snake in his office deliberately put in your back pack don’t you?” Iruka asked, his voice laced with confusion and worry about Naruto’s state of mind. This was crazy.

~”I don’t know Iruka sensei, I know it doesn’t make sense, trust me I’m not stupid, I know how this sounds, but I feel it in my bones, this was no accident.” Stated Naruto, still not facing them, still looking down at the ground, body trembling slightly.

~”That’s ridiculous Naruto, why would he want to harm you or Sasuke? And how could he have known Sasuke would open YOUR back pack?” Iruka asked incredulously, he just couldn’t fathom anyone doing that, let alone Professor Orochimar. Yes the man was creepy and a bit high strung and Iruka didn’t really care all that much for him, after all the man did not inspire friendship and socializing with ones peers. But this? Iruka just couldn’t wrap his mind around the idea that he would deliberately try to kill if not severely maim and incapacitate any of the university students.

~”He wouldn’t……Sasuke wasn’t who he wanted to hurt, like you said, it was MY backpack.” Naruto answered looking up at them at this point and it was then that, both men noticed that there was tears streaming down those big blue eyes of his. This whole time that he was trembling it was not out of anger, although they were sure it had a huge part in it, but it was pain. Those eyes that looked at them both, held so much fear, pain, confusion and sadness.

~”Regardless how it happened, it was supposed to have happened to me………not Sasuke…….do….do you know…….how close I came to loosing Sasuke today? I….I….I don’t know…..what I would of done….if something had happened…to Sasuke……I…I can’t loose him….I would die without him.” Naruto stuttered in a broken voice as sobs racked his body and he slumped into Iruka’s open arms.

~Both men looked at each other as Iruka held onto Naruto with all he was worth and did his best to sooth the distraught boy. No young man. Neither had seen Naruto cry like this since he was five. Naruto didn’t cry easily, not even with broken bones or busted ribs. He was either shouting in anger or excitement. The boy was easy to rile, but so easy to please as well. It took a lot to make him sad, at least sad enough to shed tears and this? This worried them. They knew that both boys were close, as close as brothers if not closer, but this was something else. There was something about how Naruto looked, how he had spoken about loosing Sasuke that told both men that there was far more emotions than friendship here, something A LOT more. They just wondered if Naruto knew of it or had no clue of how he truly felt for the person who was not only his dearest rival, but best friend/brother.

~Neither said anything as Iruka made soothing noises and held Naruto tenderly as he let the boy he loved like a son, cry into his chest and sob like the little boy he once was. As for Kakashi, he was at a loss for what to do, he wasn’t much for comforting. Naruto had broken bones, had been injured in many matches and fights as he taught him martial arts, but this? He had never had to deal with a emotionally hurt Naruto and this scared him. He envied Iruka the ability to sooth and comfort. Although he was not good at it, it didn’t mean Kakashi didn’t feel for the blond and wish he knew the right words, the right moves to make all his pain go away. He would take every broken bone, every bruised rib, busted lip and any other physical pain, if it meant he could keep Naruto from ever hurting like THIS ever again.


AN-ya short and not much action but this is where the feelings start to show. I mean I have to get Naruto to realize he cares for Sasuke as more than JUST a friend/brother like figure. We already know Sasuke cares for Naruto more than just friends. Anyway, may seem OOC but I think Naruto would cry if he thought that he had come THAT close to loosing his most precious person, even if he has yet to realize how precious Sasuke really is to him.
