Scene 13
“So Uchiha Sasuke has returned to his village.” Gaara sat behind the Kazakage’s desk flanked by Tamari and Kankuro. Shikamaru had hardly slept or eaten since he left Konoha.
“He begs you to help him. He knows about your friendship with Naruto and the allegiance between Konoha and Suna, but out of that allegiance, you must help the village free itself of Naruto and Itachi.”
“I hate to think Naruto’s fallen so far.”
“None of us could believe he’d do that to Sasuke. Sasuke of all people. Please send aid to Sasuke and Konoha.”
“Tamari, Kankuro, work with Shikamaru to choose the best shinobi to go to Konoha. Naruto would not allow me to follow my path of murder, and I shall stop him from going down the same path.”
“Thank you, lord Kazakage.”
“Why didn’t Sasuke kill Itachi when he had the chance?”
“He wanted to see Itachi executed. He decided that seeing Itachi pay for his crimes would be more satisfying than killing him himself. But I think the real reason is that he found it hard to kill his own brother. He suspected that even Itachi could not kill a brother. He expected Naruto to sentence Itachi to death.”
“I demand you eat and sleep before we begin. You will lead our forces in Konoha, I need you functional. Tamari and Kankuro will be your generals. Hopefully it will not come war, but we shall prepare for war.”
“Thank you, lord Kazakage.”
“But we cannot send a force for several months.”
“What?”
“We have our own issues to deal with first. I’m sorry. But we will do what we can as quickly as we can.”
“I understand.”
“Get some rest.”
