Chapter 14
MisatosPenPen: Nah, Itachi’s just kind of a jerk. But he redeems himself latter XD
Tweedleedee: Yep, everything’s a mess but it WILL work out, eventually. Madamdragon: It’s sad, they just got married and now this. Jessica: Everything will be ok XD Golden Kitsune: Well here’s more!!! ====================================================== Naruto was silent during the entire drive. He stared listlessly out the window, watching the familiar scenery flash by as they neared his father’s home. As soon as they’d arrived and parked, he climbed out and made for the door.“Dad?” he called, not sure where the older blond was. He knew he was home. Minato’s car was in the driveway. “Dad, you busy?”
Minato entered the foyer and instantly saw the distraught look on his songs face. He immediately gathered the young man in his arms. “What’s wrong? Did you and Sasuke get into a fight?”
“My father found out.” Sasuke entered the front door and closed it gently, approaching the father and son. “He ripped into Naruto pretty harshly. But it’s not his fault; my father’s just too pretentious to admit when he’s being insensitive.”
Naruto felt his tears gather immediately. Something about being in his father’s arms… It always made him just break down. “He… He disowned him, dad. Because of me… Because of who I am…”
He wrapped his arms around Minato and pressed his face against his chest, sniffling miserably. “It’s my fault. I never wanted this to happen… I never meant for it to.”
Sasuke stood a bit awkwardly in the foyer, not really sure what to do with himself. He had only really spent any time with Minato twice since he had met Naruto.
The older blond looked up at Sasuke, his expression was unreadable but he knew deep down that he didn’t blame Sasuke for anything. “Why don’t we go into the kitchen, I’ll make us coffee and we can talk, is that okay with you honey?” he asked, running his fingers through Naruto’s hair.
“Yeah, that’s okay, dad,” Naruto answered, stepping away. He backed up and grabbed Sasuke’s hand before heading to the kitchen. He didn’t say anything as he watched Minato prepare the coffee. He leaned against the counter, staring down at the marble tops, studying the patterns in it.
“I don’t know who I am anymore,” Naruto started, his lower lip trembling. “I thought I did, but this just… I feel so bad. It’s my fault…”
“It’s not your fault Naruto.” Sasuke’s arm was around his husband’s shoulders, pulling the man against him. “Don’t blame yourself and don’t think you have to change who you are. I love you no matter what you want. Don’t worry about my father; don’t let him get to you.”
Minato poured the coffee and began preparing his son’s just how he liked it. “You should listen to your husband Naru... he’s right. No one should tell you who to be. If Fugaku doesn’t see you for the wonderful person you are then he can go fuck himself.”
“But… But I don’t know who I am anymore,” Naruto whimpered. “I’ve never been comfortable as myself before, but with you I am… I don’t know what I want anymore… I don’t know myself anymore…”
The blond turned his head to look at his dad. “I don’t care if Fugaku hates me. He can hate me all he wants. I just don’t want to be the cause of him and Sasuke falling out with each other… No matter what you guys say, I know I am.”
Pressing his face into Sasuke’s neck, he let out a shuddering breath. “I’m so sorry, Sas…”
The raven sighed, accepting the mug of coffee with a small nod of thanks. He really wasn’t sure how to fix this situation. He wanted Naruto to know that it wasn’t his fault at all. He knew it would have come to it eventually. He wouldn’t have married Sakura, even if he had never met Naruto. He could have made it on his own and he would have.
Minato sat on Naruto’s other side, setting the mug down in front of the blond. “Tell us what we can do... I know you’re hurting right now but I don’t know how to make it better.” The older blond felt so helpless. Naruto had always been so confident, always knowing what he wanted, not caring what anyone else thought.
“I don’t know if there’s anything you can do,” Naruto whispered, pulling away from Sasuke. He cupped the hot mug between his hands and lifted it to sip at the strong liquid inside. “I think it’s something that I just… have to work through myself. I have no idea what I want anymore. Cross-dressing has been such a big part of my life for so long… I’ve always felt like I needed to do it, but I don’t really feel that way anymore. I still love it, but… I like just being me, more. Or, I don’t… I don’t know! It’s so complicated now.”
“Whatever you decide, I’ll support you baby, you know that.” Sasuke took a sip of his own coffee and sat back in the chair. “If you want to be male, female, or both... I don’t care as long as I’m with you.”
“I know you don’t care, Sas, and that’s what makes it harder. I know you’ll accept me no matter what I decide, which leaves it completely up to me. I know it has to be that way, but… Fuck, I don’t know.” Naruto sipped from his drink again and then stood, not able to sit still anymore. He paced across the tiled floor, his brows drawn together in thought.
“At one point, I wanted to actually go through the transition. I was entertaining the thought of surgery, but… I can’t even think about that now. I don’t want it…”
He stopped beside his dad and wrapped his arms around Minato, hugging him tight. “Why is it so hard, daddy? Why can’t I just… know?”
The older blond let his hand rest on Naruto’s back. He could only do so much for his son but in the end, Naruto would have to make the decision for himself. “I can’t tell you why life is the way it is. I know it’s hard and confusing but just trust your own judgment. Just because this situation is unfortunate, it still doesn’t make you wrong for wanting what you want.”
“What if… What if I want to do something drastic?” Naruto asked, drumming his fingers on the counter top. He was immediately up again, pacing the kitchen floor. “You both know me… I don’t like to do things half-assed. What if I… wanted surgery?”
He stopped and looked between Sasuke and his dad. “Not… Not the full thing. I’m not ready for anything permanent, not when I’m feeling so… conflicted. But what if I wanted to get implants?”
He ran his shaky fingers through his hair, worried about Sasuke’s reaction.
The raven sat there for a moment. It was something of a surprise to hear from the blond. He knew Naruto was conflicted with everything that was happening but what if the desire for surgery was only because of the stress put on him?
“Is it something you really want baby? I know you’re stressed right now, maybe you should think about it for a couple days, or weeks. I mean, that’s a big decision.” He stood and took Naruto into his arms. “I want you to be happy but don’t do something just because you think it might fix everything.”
Minato nodded. “He’s right honey. You know I support you in anything you do but take some time to think about it, if it’s really what you want, you’ll feel the same in a week.”
“Don’t you think I have thought about it?” Naruto sighed. “I’ve been thinking about it since I was like, thirteen years old… I’ve just felt so restless the past few weeks. I know I need something different, and I’m sure this is it.”
The blond grabbed his coffee and sipped at it. “I’ve been researching it for a while now, and this one is reversible… If I decide I want to get them removed, I can do that. But I don’t think I will.”
“I want you to do whatever makes you happy.” Sasuke sat back down, taking Naruto’s hand in his. “If this is what you really want, then I support you.”
“Whatever you decide to do, both of us will be here.” Minato leaned over, kissing Naruto’s cheek gently. “And as far as Sasuke’s father... just don’t let him get to you, if I know him, he won’t let the situation stay as fucked up as it is, he likes perfection and it seems like right now his family is far from that.” He looked at Sasuke when he said this. “It’ll work out...”
“I don’t want either of you to think I’m doing this because of Fugaku. I’m not. He just made me realize how uncomfortable I really am with myself. For so many years now, I’ve had ‘Naruko’. I am Naruko. I have so much invested in this… I feel most comfortable when I’m her, and… I just want to take a step forward. I haven’t in so long…”
He hopped up onto the counter and leaned back against the cupboards. “I’ve, um… I’ve already made an appointment for a consult with a surgeon. It’s in two days and I’d like it if you came with me, Sas.”
Sasuke looked up at the blond and just looked at him for a moment. “Of course I’ll go with you but... why didn’t you tell me?” He wasn’t sure what he was feeling. He knew it definitely hurt though; Naruto not telling him something so important.
“I just made it today.” The blond reached for Sasuke’s hand and squeezed it. “I was going to talk to you about it tonight, I swear. It just kind of… came out. I should’ve waited to talk to you about it first… so, I’m sorry.”
“I know it’s hard and I understand that you’re going through a lot right now. I don't blame you.” Sasuke’s hand curled around Naruto’s, squeezing a bit. “It’s getting late, we should probably go.” He looked toward Minato with an apologetic look.
The older blond nodded. “I understand; you two have a lot to talk about. He stood and pulled Naruto up as well, hugging his son and soon to be official daughter. “Call me anytime you need me. I know you do anyway but just know that I’m here for you.”
“Yeah, I guess we should…” Naruto agreed, hugging Minato almost fiercely. “Love you, Dad. I promise I’ll call if I need you. I will need you as I go through this. A lot.” When he pulled away, he brushed a kiss over his father’s cheek.
He didn’t say anything else until they were back in the car. He turned to face Sasuke and was about to speak, but figured they should wait until they were home and could take their time and talk.
Sasuke started the engine and began to drive; so many thoughts were swirling in his head. He knew they needed to talk; so much had happened that night for there not to be a conversation but he knew the blond wanted to wait until they got home.
Once he parked the car in the parking structure, he turned to Naruto, not letting the blond get out yet. “I love you... I just want you to know that. I hate thinking that you’re blaming yourself for what happened tonight. It wasn’t just you; please believe that.”
“I love you, too, Sas,” Naruto smiled. “It’ll probably take me some time to get over it all, so be patient with me, please. It’s not just this I have to deal with… I’m thinking about changing my entire life. No, our lives.”
Opening his door, he slid out. “C’mon. Let’s go have a drink and talk this out.” He waited for Sasuke and then headed towards the entrance. He was silent, all the way up to their condo and even once they got inside. He slipped his shoes off and then went into the kitchen to grab a bottle of fine scotch and two glasses.
“We might need this,” he teased as he carried everything over to the couch and flopped down.
Sasuke joined his husband and leaned back, taking the offered glass and taking a small sip. He knew Naruto was the one who was going to make the first move, so he waited until he was ready.
“I don’t want you to think I’m doing all this without considering how you feel. It’s a big step and I’m comfortable with it, but I want you to be, too. You married me as a man and to suddenly be married to a woman… Or, no I wouldn’t be a woman, I’d be… half…”
Sipping at his drink, he hissed as the alcohol burned down his throat. “Tell me how you really feel about it. You just keep saying you’ll support whatever I choose, but how do you feel about it, Sasuke? I mean, would you be comfortable if I decided to go through with the complete surgery and become a woman? Are you going to be okay with me having tits and a dick? Tell me.”
Sasuke sighed and set his glass down. He had thought a lot about how he felt; he had ever since he met the other. “When I first met you, I thought you were so beautiful. You looked so feminine and I love that in women, that’s why I was so attracted to you physically. When I found out that you were male... I don’t know, I still thought you were beautiful, in the same way I had when I first met you.”
He took a breath before continuing. “I don’t prefer one or the other when it comes to gender. I thought I did but now... I just want you. If you want this transition, then I’m not going to stop you. Either way, you’re still beautiful.” He smiled and leaned over, kissing the soft lips, his tongue running along the bottom lip for a moment before he pulled back.
“Thank you, Sasuke,” Naruto smiled, his eyes watery. He shifted and settled himself right in Sasuke’s lap, sitting sideways and looping an arm around the raven’s neck. “Thank you for being so supportive, and for loving me enough to take me either way. I… don’t know if I’m going to go through with the complete transformation, but there’s a big chance that I will, and I’m glad to know you’re on my side.”
The blond pressed a kiss to Sasuke’s cheek and then laid his against his husband’s chest, swallowing the rest of his drink. “It’s going to be hard. I know that, but I’m glad I’m finally taking a step in the right direction. If I hadn’t met you, I probably would have just continued living my uncomfortable life. But with your support, I know I can do this.” He chuckled, his lips curving into a small smirk. “Even though I’m scared shitless.”
Sasuke smiled and let his arms tighten around the blonde’s waist. “I can’t even begin to imagine how scary it must be. But I’m never going to let you go through it alone. I’ll be there with you through everything.” It was so comforting to know he had someone that he could be with, who he could tell anything to and knew Naruto would also do the same for him. It would be a long and hard road for the two of them but Sasuke knew it was meant to happen. He would do anything for Naruto and he would stick by that as long as he lived.
“Thanks, Sas,” Naruto repeated, lifting his head to press a kiss to Sasuke’s lips. He grinned wickedly and jumped up, grabbing the bottle of scotch and their glasses. “I think this call’s for a celebration!”
He laughed as he started walking towards the bedroom, tugging his shirt off and throwing it on the floor behind him. He tugged the button free from his jeans and pulled the zipper down, letting them fall to the floor. Stepping out of them, he continued down the hall, wiggling his ass and smirking over his shoulder.
“You coming or do I have to drag you in here with me?” he asked, his voice low and suggesting as he disappeared through the door. He didn’t have to look to know he was being followed. Sasuke was not going to stay in the living room and leave him all alone.
Climbing up on the bed, Naruto’s head was full of thoughts, of ideas as to how they could celebrate the fact that he was finally moving forward and changing his life – becoming what he should have always been. He would finally move forward and take control, with his husband by his side, supporting him through it all.
XX
Six months passed, very quickly, in Sasuke’s mind. Although it was quick, a lot had happened in that time. Naruto had started to see a therapist to make sure he was completely ready for what he was going to do. After about two weeks of seeing the woman, Naruto was written a prescription for hormones. The changes started out slow at first; Sasuke noticing Naruto’s voice changing quicker than anything else, at least physical.
There were some extreme ups and downs for the blond; it was like he was going through puberty all over again but Sasuke made sure to reassure the other as much as he could, or at least what Naruto would allow him. There were days when the blond wouldn’t speak to him for hours, days when he would get unpredictable mood swings; it was like he was pregnant... At least that’s what Sasuke compared it to.
After a couple more months, the hormones were starting to balance out and the blond was a lot happier. They had decided in that time that it would probably be best to start calling Naruto, ‘Naruko’; the name change would come later, at least legally. But Sasuke had agreed that it was the best thing to do considering he was already becoming a woman and wanted to be treated as such.
After three months on hormones, Naruto had made an appointment for a consultation with a surgeon for his top surgery. He was able to get a date surprisingly quickly and three months after that, he’d have breasts, something the blond was very excited and scared shitless about.
The morning of the surgery was quiet. It was still dark, the two having to get up at 4am to get ready and be at the hospital by 6am. Sasuke rolled over in bed as the alarm went off and pulled the other occupant closer to him, his arms wrapping around the slim waist and lips connection to a tan neck.
Naruto hadn’t slept at all that night. He’d tried, but he’d laid awake the entire time. Who knew being awake could be so… exhausting. By the time the alarm rang, he was ready to get up and get it over with. He was tired and hungry, though he couldn’t eat, and the butterflies in his stomach had been fluttering all night, leaving him feeling sick and shaky.
“Morning, Sas,” the blond whispered, tilting his head and exposing his neck to his husband. He took a few moments to just bask in the comfort the raven offered, until he couldn’t lie still anymore.
“I’ll put on some coffee for you…” He couldn’t drink, but he needed to get up. Pressing a kiss to Sasuke’s lips, he slipped out of bed and made his way towards the kitchen, raking his fingers through his hair. He’d been growing it out since the night he’d made the decision and they’d celebrated. It went a little past his shoulders now, but his goal was to have it as long as his wig had been. He’d always been attracted to longer hair.
Grabbing the coffee from the cupboard, he set up the coffee machine and slid the pot beneath it, turning it on. The smell immediately filled the room and his stomach grumbled, but he wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything, which really sucked. But what he would gain was definitely worth the small sacrifice.
Sasuke sat up in bed after Naruto had left. He felt bad that the man couldn’t sleep and he had tried to stay awake with his husband but Naruto had insisted he sleep. Sasuke agreed only because he knew he’d need to be somewhat conscious to take care of the blond once the surgery was over.
Standing, he made his way to the bathroom to relieve himself before heading into the kitchen, Naruto pouring a cup for him. The raven smiled and took the offered cup and sipped it. “Thanks baby... you should get ready, we have to leave soon. How are you feeling?”
“Um… Still scared shitless.” Naruto laughed nervously, tugging at his shirt. He felt so fidgety… “I mean, I was okay until last night, but knowing what was happening the next day…” He shrugged and leaned back against the counter. “I know it’s going to be okay, but… I’m gonna get my chest cut open this morning, Sas! That’s scary! But it’s okay… Kiba’s going to look after the bar while I recover… but you’re still going to check in with him, right? I mean, he’s good at making drinks, but he doesn’t know the first thing about running a business, and I’ve worked so hard, but… Okay, now I’m rambling…”
He raked his fingers through his hair and met Sasuke’s gaze. “Tell me again. Tell me it’ll all be okay. Tell me I’m overreacting, and that women go through this all the time…”
Setting down his cup, Sasuke took Naruto into his arms and pulled the blond against him. “Everything will be alright baby. I’m going to make sure of that... We made sure to find the best surgeon and he’s done this hundreds of times. And I promise I’ll be right there when you wake up. I’ll be the first thing you see.”
Naruto melted against the raven and dropped his forehead to rest on his chest. “Promise? Promise it’ll be okay?” Swallowing heavily, he pulled back enough to look at Sasuke and smiled at the concern, at the love he could see shining in those dark eyes.
“You’re right, it’ll be okay… And I better get ready.”
After giving his husband another kiss, he pulled away, reluctantly, and headed back to the bedroom. Stripping, he padded into the bathroom and took a quick shower before dressing in some sweats and a really loose t-shirt that would be comfortable for the trip home. As comfortable as he could be after the surgery. He’d also packed a little bag with extra clothes and some books and things to keep him occupied if he had to be kept there for some reason.
He was totally prepared, and yet, not prepared at all… The past six months had gone by so fast. Much faster than he’d expected. He didn’t regret his decision and he wasn’t having second thoughts about it. He’d talked things out with his therapist and he knew this was what he needed to do for himself, but it was still such a big step.
“My dad’s going to come visit me after the surgery, too. You know him…” He rolled his eyes, but was smiling fondly. “He’s all worried and stuff… He won’t be able to work or anything until he’s seen first-hand that I’m okay.”
Sasuke expected as much from Minato, the man was so protective of his son, not that Sasuke could blame him, he felt the exact same way.
He knew the day was going to be hard on both of them, Naruto obviously having the worst of it. After reassuring the blond a few more times, Sasuke made his way to the bedroom to get ready himself. They would need to leave within the next ten minutes to get there on time.
By the time they made it to the hospital, Naruto was a nervous wreck. He’d already called his father despite the early hour, just needing to hear his voice before going in. He’d almost cried, but blamed it on the hormones. He still wasn’t entirely used to them.
Dressed in his hospital gown, with his IV attached to a rolling post, he sat on the hospital bed. His eyes darted nervously around the room as he waited for the nurse to come and get him, to bring him to the OR.
His hands were trembling at his sides.
“Mr. Uzumaki-Uchiha.”
A tall blonde walked into the room, her white coat billowing behind her and her heels clicking on the linoleum. She carried a chart in her hands as she approached.
“Just Uchiha,” Naruto answered automatically, as he had been since he’d gotten married. “Actually, just Naruto.”
Tsunade nodded. “Naruto, then. How are you feeling? Are you ready for this?”
“As I’ll ever be,” the blond answered, his hand sliding across the bed until it met Sasuke’s.
“Good. I’m going to head to the OR to start setting up. A nurse will be here in a few minutes to get you. Any questions?”
Naruto shook his head and watched as she left. He let out a long, shaky breath and lied down in the bed. “I guess it’s time. In a few hours, I’m going to have breasts.” He smiled and turned his face towards Sasuke. “I’m doing it, Sas. It’s finally happening.”
The raven let his fingers run through the golden locks as he leaned down to press a kiss to the other’s forehead. “I’m so proud of you for coming this far, I know it’s been hard but I can tell you’re happy and that’s all I want for you baby.”
He knew it was going to be difficult sitting there and waiting until he surgery was over. He was already a nervous wreck as well but he had a nasty habit of not showing that side of himself, even around his husband he still didn’t like to be seen at his worst.
“I know you, S’uke,” Naruto smiled. “I know you probably won’t do it, but if you need someone to keep you company, you can call my dad. He’s going to be coming here, anyway, so coming a little earlier won’t be a problem. It would distract you. I know the waiting is going to be hard.”
He squeezed Sasuke’s hand just as a nurse came into the room. She started getting him ready to move, hooking his IV pole up to the bed. Naruto watched her for a second before turning back to Sasuke.
“Just don’t suffer alone. You don’t have to.” He leaned up for a kiss, lingering for a few seconds. “I love you.”
Sasuke let himself get lost in the kiss. Never wanting to let Naruto go but knowing he had to. It was so hard to see the love of his life being wheeled off into surgery, any number of things could go wrong... He was scared. “I love you too... more than anything.”
Reassured by Sasuke’s words, Naruto settled down again as he was wheeled from the room. The butterflies, the nervousness was still there but it wasn’t nearly as severe. He wanted this, so he was doing this. He was doing the right thing and he knew everything would be okay.
“You doing okay?” the nurse asked as she steered the bed into an elevator and hit the button for the floor they needed to get to.
Naruto tilted his head back to look at her and smiled. “Yeah… I’m good.”
He closed his eyes as the doors opened and they were off again. After about a minute, they slowed down and he opened his eyes as they entered the OR. A bunch of doctors were in there, waiting for him. They helped him onto the steel table and his eyes fell on a brunette, who he assumed was the anesthesiologist.
“Just relax, Naruto. You’re in good hands,” Shizune smiled, patting him on the shoulder before helping him get his arms through the gown. “Before you know it, we’ll be finished and you’ll be back with your husband.”
Naruto smiled and nodded, but didn’t speak. His throat had closed off and he didn’t think he could get any words out. So he just watched, watched as the doctors finished setting everything up.
“I’m going to put the mask on now, Naruto. We need to get started, but we’ll take care of you,” Shizune said in a soothing voice, and then slid the mask onto the blonde’s face.
Naruto took a deep breath and within seconds, everything went bleary. His body felt so heavy and he couldn’t, for the life of him, keep his eyes open any longer. His hazy blue eyes fell on Shizune and caught the smile there before everything went dark, and he was pulled into a drugged abyss. TBC
