Crying

Hey everyone! I apologize because after I got this chapter completely written I didn’t really like it. I was afraid it mirrored Orochimaru’s attack on Konoha during the chuunin exam too much. However, this chapter is also a pretty major turning point in this story and you’ll see why. So, I’m really sorry if you all are disappointed in this chapter because I definitely am. If you stay with me I’ll make it up to you in chapter 16 XD

The Konoha morning was rudely interrupted. Anko was at the academy when she heard an explosion. She rushed to the nearest window and noticed smoke pummeling up from the edge of town.

“Iruka! Iruka! Iruka! What the hell is going on?” She screamed for her associate. Her mind was spinning, it raced in all directions. And then logic kicked in and she thought that perhaps Konoha was under attack.

“Anko! Anko!” Iruka called to her. He was running down the hall with his students tagging behind. Anko’s worst fear had come true, Iruka told her that Konoha was indeed under attack and that he was taking his students to safety. Iruka urged her to follow them. He tugged on her arm but Anko resisted.

“No. Iruka, take those kids and keep them safe…I’m going out there.” Anko hurried down the hall toward the main doors of the academy. Iruka watched her, worry clouding his eyes. However, there was no time to waste. No one knew who this was or what they wanted. He led his children out of the hall.
Once outside, Anko was on her guard. She moved carefully and slowly. She wasn’t 500 feet away from the academy when she was ambushed by 5 ninjas. Their country affiliation was unknown. Anko had her aggressive ways and she quickly managed to pick them off, leaving them in pools of their own blood. Anko didn’t really have an aim at this point. She was wandering around glancing quickly in all directions. There were fires around town and smoke was still abundant. However, there were no dead Konoha ninjas to be seen at this point
There was nothing but confusion all around Anko. She took off in the opposite direction only to start seeing what she didn’t want to see…dead jounins. There were still no marks on the enemies to be able to tell where they came from. This was hell; there were more fires in this part of town. Anko was attacked three more times but her skills and her hard assed attitude allowed her to kill all of them.

“Anko! Anko! Anko!” Anko spun around. It was Gai breathing hard and he was pale.

“Gai, what’s going on, what is this?” Gai was breathless and shaking his head.

“Doesn’t matter right now, we think they are all gone…you’ve go to get to the hospital now….right now.” Gai could barely speak.

“What’s going? What the fuck are you getting at?” Anko didn’t finish her sentence. “Kakashi…” she whispered. Gai shook his head yes. They took off toward the hospital.

“Myself, Kurenai, and Kakahsi were all together, we were ambushed but we were all fine. After the ambush, Kakashi took a pretty hard blow and he has lost a lot of blood. This was the second time Konoha had been ambushed. However, Orochimaru was responsible for the previous ambush, this one seemed pretty rushed, lacked organized thought, so it was concluded that Orochimaru may not be connected with this one.

“Take me to him.” Akira whispered. “Has Tsunade seen him yet?” she asked walking with Gai into the hospital.

“No, she hasn’t. She’s on her way. He’s sedated right now, so he won’t be awake when we go in.” Anko said nothing…she was thinking. A thousand thoughts rushed through her head. Gai took her to Kakashi. Anko walked in his room. He appeared unharmed, but the truth was that had lost blood…somehow, whether it was from some strange jutsu or some lash on his body. Anko went to his bedside. She gazed at him a long time, she ran her fingers through his hair and put her hand on his forehead. Then Anko did something she hadn’t done since she was a baby: she cried…and she cried…and cried. Her tears got wetter and harder and she cried louder and louder. Anko was one of those people that never cried because she simply didn’t know how. She was constantly feeling anger but now, she was feeling sadness…and it was a new emotion. Gai wasn’t certain what you say to someone who had never cried before so he just held on to her. Anko was shaking. She gritted her teeth, broke free of Gai’s grasp and stormed into the hallway….only to shove her fist right through the sheetrock. She felt blood on her knuckles but she didn’t give a shit. She wouldn’t stop crying.

“You know what? This is the story of my life! The very minute I make a decision…a positive commitment to something…it’s taken the fuck away from me! It’s taken away Gai! The gods out there must want me to be fucking miserable all the fucking time! They must want me to go through life hating everything and everyone! The minute I decide I’m going to become attached…the moment I decide I’m going to try to love…it goes the fuck away!” Anko grabbed her face with trembling hands and slid to the floor.

“What did you just say?” Gai asked her very calmly. Anko looked at him with round glassy eyes and a streaked, flushed face.

“I love him…I’m in love with him…I need him…because I love him.” she whispered to Gai. It was the first time she had said this out loud and it felt surprisingly…wonderful. “I love him, Gai. I, Mitarashi Anko love him, Hatake…Kakashi.” She said loudly. Gai was speechless for a moment. He had never heard Anko say that she loved anything.

“You know, he’s not going to die. No one’s going to take him away from you.” Gai tried to reassure her. “Honestly Anko, Hokage will probably just put some blood in him and when he wakes up he’ll be fine.” He finished.

“I know…I know he’ll be okay. It’s not that, it’s just that…today I was going to tell him. Today I was going to say I love you.” Anko said despondently.
Tsunade came in to see what exactly was going on with Kakashi. She couldn’t decide what had made him lose blood; he didn’t have a single mark on him, so it was jutsu induced. Tsunade would have to research it. The good news was that the situation wasn’t as serious as originally thought. Blood transfusion was the solution.

“Anko there’s really no reason for you to stay here at the hospital. He’s going to be sedated the rest of the day. And the transfusion won’t happen until later today.” Tsunade said to her.

“But, can I stay? Do I have to leave? I’d like to be here when he wakes.” She said.
“You can do whatever you like, if you desire to stay, then I’ll get you a pillow.”

“Thank you.” Anko said graciously.” Iruka had stopped by the hospital to get the scoop from Anko. He had sent his students with their parents and was en route to help in town. There was a lot of clean up that needed to occur from the fires. However, Anko had been his associate for too long to leave her hanging so he had to find out what was going on with Kakashi and he had to make sure that Anko was alright.
That night was the hardest night Anko had ever had. Partially because she realized that the man she loved didn’t know that she loved him. This weighed heavy on her mind and she wished so much that the dawn would come and that he would awake and life would return to normal. What was normal anyway? Anko’s idea of normal had always been waking up pissed off and going through the motions of living. Well, her life wasn’t that anymore and she had gotten used to her new found euphoria. Not to mention, Anko had gotten the man who was previously a closed book, to open up to her and only her.
