Chapter 16

Drugs Are the Best Medicine [Part Three]

[Sakura’s POV]

I thought I was going to DIE! I have never run so fast in my life, but Sasuke and I were both panicked at that point and I didn’t want him being by himself any longer than he currently was. And in order to prevent further alone time I had to get to the school as fast as possible.

I cut quickly around the corner where the school gate resided and slipped in and out, nearly tripping along the way. But I managed to tear across school grounds and cut through the courtyard where Sasuke and I previously were. Jutting around the side of the school building I crashed right into someone quite painfully.

Staggering back, I emit a yelp and hear a bark in front of me. I look up into thin, coal colored eyes and see it to be Kiba and shout in surprise, “Kiba!”

“Whoa, Sakura! What the hell, man?” He’s got his hands defensively raised after my unintended attack and blinks at me in perplexity.

Much to my relief he wasn’t alone either. Sure enough Gaara and Neji accompanied him just like Sasuke said and I thrust my palm out into Kiba’s face, inches from his nose. “Sasuke’s in trouble!” I blurt carelessly.

Eyes are all on me quicker than I could have stated so and I feel everyone boring holes into my head.

“He followed Naruto! He got into some car with some strange man and Sasuke followed after them! I don’t know where they’re headed, but I have a bad feeling… that Sasuke might be in danger! Please!” Kiba stares deep into my palm and immediately I explain, “This is Sasuke’s cell phone number! He told me to give it to you guys so you can call it and find him!”

“Where the hell did Naruto go?” Neji darkly asks, smoothly crossing his arms and looking about ready to kill.

“I – I don’t know. Sasuke got upset when he saw him skip school grounds in the beginning of lunch and followed after him.”

“And you followed after him?” Gaara quietly, but asks in a rather sinister way.

“Yea – I mean, I didn’t want Sasuke leaving alone so I went with him,” I struggle out under Gaara’s impending gaze.

The three boys are silent before Kiba pipes up, “You said Blondie got in a car with someone?”

“Yea,” I reply.

“What did he look like?”

I have to stop just as my mouth opens to think clearly about the man we saw. “He was tall, white skin and he wore purple eye make-up. He had long, black hair, but he was smartly dressed, like a business man.”

Gaara’s eyes avert to Kiba and murmurs, “Orochimaru.”

“Orochimaru?” I ask with a few questioning blinks, but Gaara’s gone in a flash and Kiba, Neji and I take off after him.

Neji looks over at Kiba and yells in the midst of our running as we squeeze back through the school gate, “Call that number now! Find Sasuke!”

“Right!” Kiba shouts in response, jerking me hard by my wrist and stares at the number for a few seconds, memorizes it and speed dials it into his phone.

Kiba releases my wrist and continues to run along side me, shooting the phone up by his ear and patiently waits for Sasuke to pick up.

[Sasuke’s POV]

I had trailed this stupid car for about ten minutes now before it finally parked in front of a nice-looking café. I squinted hard at the coffee shop because it didn’t look to be like the type of place that Naruto would be caught dead in.

The same man from before clambers out of the vehicle and makes his way for Naruto’s door, but the blonde gives it a violent kick open before he can pull it for him. Naruto gives him his best glare and the man only returns the look with that creepy smile of his. The man ushers for him to go inside and Naruto hesitates, pulling out his cell phone and glumly looking the cover over before disappearing into the shop.

Why was Naruto acting like he didn’t want to skip out on school? I mean, wasn’t it something he typically did?

For some reason he acted as though he was being forced.

Spying wasn’t really my thing especially since what Naruto did in his spare time wasn’t my business, but for some reason I couldn’t bring myself to turn around and go back to school.

There’s a sudden buzzing in my pants pocket that nearly gives me a heart attack. Jumping I fish around for my phone and an unfamiliar number flashes noisily across the caller ID. I feel enlightened when I realized that Sakura had made it back to school safe and sound and obviously got a hold of one of the guys.

Flipping open the phone speedily with my thumb, I hastily greet, “Hello?”

“Sasu-chan?” is an all too familiar voice over the other end I recognize as Kiba’s.

“Kiba!” I rather excitably shout, more than relieved to hear his voice that signified Sakura got back to school okay. “Where are you? Is everyone with you?”

“Yea,” Kiba quickly responds, “I got Gaara, Neji and Sakura with me. You okay?”

I look up through the window across the street, easily spotting Naruto and his strange “date” inside, sitting nearby. “Yea, for now.” I hastily lick my dry lips, “I take it Sakura filled you in?”

“Yea, Naruto hopped off with some guy. Gaara says it might be Orochimaru.”

With a few confused blinks I ask, “Orochimaru?”

“Aa,” comes Kiba’s slow response, as if he was hesitating in answering, “he’s a big-wig, kinda like your dad, but he’s got his own pyramid-scheme-thing going on.”

I’m quiet for a moment, thinking deeply as my eyes continue to watch the blonde’s every move within the café. “Does that mean Naruto’s in danger?”

There’s a few minutes of silence on the other end of the line and finally I hear, “He might be.”

I was about ready quickly hang up the phone, my instincts wanting me to bolt inside that restaurant and snatch the blonde up, but I freeze in my spot and rapidly utter forth my location. “Kiba, listen up, I’m about five blocks from the school… I’m across the street from,” my eyes squint to read the café’s small logo over the door, “Kaoru’s.”

I hear Kiba shout something, but it was inaudible, like it was far, far away and suddenly I realize that someone took the phone from him. I hear, “Don’t you dare go anywhere, Uchiha. Stay put till we get there!”

It was Neji.

My stomach then knots up rather uncomfortably at the hinted worry to Neji’s harshness. “Yea,” and I clap my phone shut.

I crouch for a minute, trying to recollect my thoughts carefully. Neji’s right, I needed to stay where I was for now. If what Gaara and Kiba said is true and this man is really dangerous, then me bolting in there like some hero was only bound to make things worse. It would be reckless and I really didn’t want to get myself roped up into more trouble – being kidnapped and taken for ransom was enough excitement for an entire lifetime.

But there was an indescribable, itching feeling that still egged me to go in there, whether I was making a scene by snatching up Naruto or discreetly sneaking inside to eavesdrop on their “lunch date” conversation.

I had to shake it.

My eyes widen when there’s a hard nudge in my back and my heart jumps up into my throat, thinking it was Neji and the others. But as my head turns over my shoulder, I’m sorely mistaken.

I stare up into honey-colored brown eyes and dark, fuchsia hair framing a fairly toned face. I blink once, twice and register that this was not who I was anticipating.

“Spying’s not very nice, little boy,” the girl, surprisingly intimidating, bellows over my head.

Spying?

“Heh—yea, Orochimaru likes to have his luncheons in private,” a very widely built man chortles, sporting a bright orange mohawk over his unusually round head.

The girl before him elbows him harshly in the stomach and he doubles over a bit, clutching his stomach, “Can it, fatass!”

Wait a minute… Spying… Orochimaru? Shit – they heard my conversation with Kiba! Are these people related to that man? Subordinates of his?

It wasn’t just the girl and so-called fatass; there were three others that accompanied them. There were a set of pale twins with white hair and small, dark eyes that were prettier than the girl, smiling at me with green colored lips. And lastly there was taller boy, about the same height as the fat one with dark skin and hair pulled back like Shikamaru’s. He had tattoos spiraling down lengthy, but thick arms and disappearing under his wrists.

“Maa, maa, Tayuya, calm down now. It’s not Jiroubu’s fault he doesn’t know how to keep his mouth shut.” One of the twins, letting me know they were both boys by the deepness of their voice, speaks up with an ornery smile.

“Yea, Tayuya-chan, Jiroubu-kun doesn’t know any better,” pipes up the other twin rather cheekily.

I felt my eye twitch.

“Shut your fucking traps, you goddamn psychopaths!” Tayuya growls out and flamboyantly thrusts her finger at them.

In between her colorful yelling, I manage to grit out angrily, “Who the hell are you people?”

The tattooed one steps up beside Tayuya and gives me this forced smirk and says, “We heard every word of your chit-chat with yer friends,” and makes a notion to the cell phone tightly clutched in my hand. I slip mentioned device slowly into my pants pocket, my eyes never leaving theirs.

I warily utter out my next question for them, “What do you want?”

“No interference, you fucking shit,” Tayuya spits at me and the tattooed man grips her shoulder tightly in warning for her to stay back.

“Don’t involve yourself in someone else’s business,” he just as bitterly forewarns me.

I give the man a harsh glare, but keep silent as I think over my options meticulously.

If I tell them I’ll listen and swear to keep my distance, they might let me go. If I tell them to mind their OWN fucking business [which is what I really wanted to do] then it’ll be five against one until Neji, Gaara, Kiba and Sakura get here. Then again I could always play their game and hope they leave to resume my own. That could work… But unfortunately there’s no telling that they WILL leave and I didn’t want to give this up.

Well, give or take they should be here soon, so I’ll take my chances.

“Maybe you should mind your own fucking business,” I snarl, surprisingly too angry to care about the precarious situation I might fall into.

Tayuya snaps, “Mind my own fucking business – Orochimaru-sama IS my fucking business, you cockbag!” She lunges for me just as I defensively bring up both arms and she’s jerked back by the lengths of her dark hair hard. The girl lets out a shriek of pain and shoots both hands backward in protection and then sends a glare at the tattooed man screeching, “Kidoumaru, you fucking piece of shit!! What the hell are you doing?!”

“Hey, cool it,” Kidoumaru shouts and she quiets, but doesn’t do it happily. “I’ll handle ‘em.”

Oho – a tough guy I couldn’t help but sarcastically think to myself, readying whatever plan of attack he had. I may not have been into many fights, but I was roughed up enough by Naruto and the gang to have a little more common sense about it now.

Taking two steps closer to me, he moves, throwing back his right arm speedily and pumps it forward for a punch and I barely managed to dodge it, throwing my opposing arm across my body to deflect it. As his arm swings away from the force of my block I skid forward, sliding my heel closer to him and move to strike in myself, driving my fist forward towards his jaw. There’s a loud clapping noise of my fist connecting with the palm of his hand and my eyes widen in surprise.

He moved so fast!

I find myself cringing suddenly from the forceful grip of his hand around my fist. He squeezed the knuckles so hard I thought my hand was going to crumble under the intense strength. With that weight sunken in he uses it to his advantage and shoves me back by my own fist, knocking me off-center. He grabs a handful of my hair and yanks me forward as he brings up his knee to meet my face and I briskly bring my forearm between us and block his leg, though my own arm still ended up hitting my face. Both arms distracted, he just wails one on my cheekbone hard and releases my hair so I fall backwards, dumbfounded.

I don’t even have time to wipe the blood from the corner of my mouth as I’m hefted off the ground harshly with a backward twist of my arm. Kidoumaru locks his grip around my arms, putting me in a painful restraining hold.

He pushes roughly down on the top of my head and walks me forward across the street towards the café. I slammed vehemently over the hood of a black car and I was sure it might dent under the pressure.

“Well, well, what do we have here?” I hear a slightly raspy, but deep and menacing voice drift over my head.

I try to crane my head up to see and I hear this follow after the strange, unrecognizable voice to be none other than a very familiar voice belonging to a blonde-haired dobe.

“Sasuke!!”
