Summary: A confession. Sort of.



Pairing: Naruto x Sasuke

A/N: This is ‘Convictions’, the third vignette I’ve made. If there’s anyone out there with a Naruto request (extrememly detailed, mind you), this would be the time.



Here’s number seventeen.







Shimmer

Sasuke frowned at his reflection in the lake, hating his face, the scars on his neck from Naruto's fingers. It disgusted him seeing madness reflected back at him from the water's calm surface.



His frown only deepened as he plunged a hand into the folds of his top, scratching irritably at the tightened bandages tucked neatly around his rib cage.



Every time he moved, pain made itself known in his ribs, because he refused to let anybody heal the bruises. They were reminders of that day, when Naruto left him alive and simply walked away.



It still angered him that the moron had gotten the best of their fight.



"You should be resting, bastard."



Sasuke snorted and glanced in the blonde's direction, trying to ignore the way the sun lit his hair into splashes of fiery gold.



His sides strongly agreed with the idiot, but Sasuke was determined to stay defiant.



"I'm guessing they didn't discharge you." Naruto sighed heavily, planks creaking under his feet as he walked down the dock, coming to a stop just behind the raven. "You're injured, Sasuke. You need to rest."



"I'm not going back there with those...people." The word was spat out with venom.



Naruto sighed and dropped down next to him, all sunshine hair and blue eyes. Sasuke wanted to shove something in one of them.



"If you won't let Sakura-chan heal you, then at least take these." The bane of his existence muttered, thrusting his fist out, palm up, to reveal two, small, white tablets.



The other hand unbuckled the canteen from his waist.



"Please?" Naruto said softly, urging him to take the pills.



Sasuke grunted and took the pills from Naruto's palm, swallowing them both with a sip of the lukewarm water from the canteen. "You'll feel a lot better with those, bastard." The blonde teased lightly, nudging Sasuke with his shoulder.



Sasuke rolled his eyes and looked back down at his reflection, not surprised to see what he though he saw before gone. The scars he saw around his neck were just mere memories now. All that stared back was a face relaxed and at peace.



"Go back to the hospital and rest for me, okay?" Naruto whispered, finally standing up and offering a hand to his friend.



Sasuke took it without hesitation, letting Naruto pull him to his feet, their fingers lacing together on automatic.



Naruto grinned at him, all full white teeth, before leading him back down the dock towards home.
