Chapter 14
Warning - Character Death
As the last words died from his lips, Minato heard the heart monitor go beep that did not end. As he glanced sharply to the screen, there was a straight line where Jiraya’s pulse. He had let go of his life the minute he was sure that his great grandson was told the truth.
He was able to off load the heavy burden.
His last thought was to the one woman that he had love then and had always loved, Tsuande.
Finally, Tsuande, I’m coming to find you, I hope to see you in heaven. Wait….no, I know with all my mistakes ….hell will be where I go, so even death will not draw us together.
That must be the fate of the wicked.
Minato could only stare at the eyes that were shut closed with its edges leaking tears. His great grandfather had died in pain – all those years wasted. Now once again, he lost yet another family member. Someone that has leaded a tortured life, one filled with so much grief.
Shikaku had no words to say. He was too overwhelmed by the situation. He was awed at this man’s strength, his love and his story. He could not help think even with all the flaws of the man, this man had an incredible story and deserved all his respect.
He walked over to Minato and gathered his partner in his arms, letting the man sobbed out his anguish, his pain and his grief. All new and raw, and all like wounds that seem to cut deep within his heart. Shikaku had never need to comfort Minato it was always the other way round. He was the sentimentalist, and Minato was the macho man.
Awkward and unsure, he could not think of any words or any other action to smooth his lover’s mental state.
“Just hold me. Just hold me and promise never to leave. Promise me never to die before me. Don’t try to die…sob….sob to protect me. Don’t risk yourself for my sake….PROMISE! I can’t stand to be alone…sob…sob I don’t want to be alive and alone. If you die, I will follow. I will not live alone. I’m afraid of being alone. Shikaku pleas…sob…sob….please do not leave me!”
The nurses and the doctors finally called the time of death and Jiraya, one of the best Police Commander of Japan died of a heart attack, how ironic.
Outside the door, on by the edge of the wall was Danzo. He bowed his head in respect to his father’s mentor. The one man that Sai had ever consisted a father or respect from the bottom of his heart. The man that had smuggled his son out and delivered him ten minutes after the video tape landed on his door.
Sai was the same man that had to betray Naruto and Shikamaru to save his own family, when his cover was blown. He had died of guilt a year later. His wife let him go, because she could see the pain he was in. The misery he was, drowning himself in alcohol and antidepressants. She knew what it was like for him, because she felt the same way – if it was not for Danzo, she would have hated him for what he has done. She did not want to live on borrowed time. She was alive because two of the best detectives in the world killed themselves. The two men that were almost like brothers to her.
That was when their marriage became strained. Sai would shut himself up after retiring from the force, and began hating himself and became a hermit. He drank and smoked his life a way, yet it was as if he thought it was fitting ….. or maybe pay back if he end his life with a suicide. You know an eye for an eye. Funny, how depression could get to you like that, even when the owner of your “an eye for an eye” debt would never demand payment – even if they were alive.
As Danzo walked away from the door, he took his phone out.
“Mother, Jiraya died peacefully.”
“Good. Does Minato and Shikaku know the story on his behalf?”
“Yes. The man died as the last words was read. What will be our next step?”
“Now the clue to Hiruzen Sarutobi and your father’s involvement. Please send it to them, and Danzo? Never let them know it was you. We already cause too much grief to their family….let them not hate us anymore”
He sighed, he hope he could do this task his mother has given him. No matter how much it would cost him.
And boy, it will cost him everything he has.
