The longest journey

This story contains spoilers up to chapter 269. I’ve just imagined what was next ;)


I don’t own Naruto characters, I just borrow them

I decided that for now chapters will be short, so that I won’t get too tired writing them ;)

That also means I will have more energy to write next one faster.

So little by little the story will continue.

It was lunch time and Temari was slightly irritated with Shikamaru. He was just watching the sky all the time.

‘Isn’t time to stop and eat something.’ She said.

‘Hungry?’ Shikamaru replied pretending that he cared for what she said.

‘Well we didn’t eat any breakfast’

‘Ok.’


They looked around and spotted a glade nearby. They went there and took out their lunchboxes. The silence came once again.

‘You aren’t very talkative, are you?’ said Temari with rather annoyed tone.

‘Why should I?’

‘You are supposed to be chief in this ‘team’, you can’t be one if we know nothing about each other’

‘Then what should we do? Che... Start with childish conversation, like what’s your hobby, what you like and so on?’

‘That wouldn’t be bad’

‘Baka onna... If you have to know I like watching clouds and I hate things that are troublesome like ridiculous conversations.’

‘How such arrogant became a jounin’ Said Temari, who looked pissed of after he called her ‘baka’.

‘Che...’ that was Shikamaru had to say. He continued his meal.


‘Don’t call me stupid, you are stupid here.’ She couldn’t stand his attitude ’Don’t you realise that we may encounter enemies during our journey? How we are suppose to fight together, I know almost nothing about your abilities, you know nothing about mine. On the top on that, you don’t seem trustworthy.’

‘Baka onna... we are on a mission together, so we are comrades. In Konoha we trust our comrades no matter if we know them well or not. I just treat you like one of Konoha nins and I must trust you from the moment we were assign to this mission. Isn’t it obvious? Che... baka onna’

‘Stop calling me stupid’

‘But you are... Che...’he sighted.

‘In case you don’t know, that won’t make you trustworthy.’ She said and turn away from him.

After a moment of silence he answered

‘And what would?’

She didn’t turn to him, so watching her back, he heard the answer.

‘Being nice? Saying anything, even stupid ‘good morning’ at the beginning of the day would do! You just walk as if this mission was the worst thing that happened to you! That piss me off! I can’t stand it! I have enough of it! Shit...’ she ended her outbrust.

Another moment of silence.

‘Listen...’ Shikamaru tried to said something but he spotted that her hand touched her cheek. A tear? Bah, he hated when such things happened. Such situations are the most troublesome.


‘Let’s see...’ he thought ‘Firstly, she is frustrated. Reasons... probably she is worried about her brother and thinks that I don’t give a damn about him. Bah... baka onna. What’s more, she don’t know me and I don’t know her too. That is I don’t know her as a person, because I do know her nin techniques. I’ve checked the data we have about her. She seems a good nin. What with this attitude, what is she trying? Make friends with me? Nope. I don’t think so. She is a bit too selfish. She use ‘I’ too much - ‘I can’t stand it!’ and so on. Is she a moron that just has to be praised all time, like Naruto no baka used to? Che... women are troublesome. But I guess I should talk with her more often. If she thinks that would help. Bah... this will be troublesome, but I have to try. Baka onna... I’d rather have Chouji and Ino here. They are both baka’s but at least reliable baka’s... Shit, what am I thinking? As if she wasn’t reliable. I told her I trust her... Shit.. I’m not...she was right, we aren’t comrades. She is a nin from Sunagakure. Shika no baka...‘


‘Listen...’ he continued after a while when he was sure he won’t embarrass her watching her tears ‘ can you turn around? It’s hard to speak to someone’s back’

She looked at him totally calm already.

‘I’m... sorry... okay?’

Now, she was amazed.

‘That’s just the way I am. I didn’t mean to insult you. I like being quiet and I thought that you won’t mind since you have your own business to think about. I try to be more... I just try to be a better companion. This is going to be a long journey so we must cooperate. And being positive towards each other includes that.’

She noded, although she didn’t seem to believe him.

‘Che... bak... that is... about trust. Yeah trust. We need it. And it has to be mutual. So I must tell you some things about my style of fighting, before there will be any fight. I hope there won’t be, but just in case.’

She started talking, but she didn’t know why. She was still mad at him.

‘You use shadow jutsu. Not very useful in close range fight... In general it doesn’t seemed very useful, offensive that is, as far as I remember your fights.’

‘That’s more like it’ Shikamaru smiled ‘ You spoke once again, a thought you won’t talk to me anymore.’

She also smiled a little.

‘I’m not a baby. I just got carried away.’

This much Shikamaru already knew.

‘May I know why?’ He asked, as he thought that will sound good.

‘Doesn’t matter... I’m... also sorry’

He noded.

‘So if everything okay now, can we go?’

‘Yeah’ she answered as they stood up.

‘But, about your jutsu...’ she began to ask questions about Shikamaru techniques. He replied as polite as he could, trying to not hurt her feelings anymore. They talked for another fifteen minutes and then continued their journey. Temari didn’t understood exactly how his jutsu might be used apart from stopping enemies, so that she would kill them. But Shikamaru sounded as he knew. However, he wasn’t that keen on revealing his secrets. After this rather short conversation they continued walking in silence. But this time there was no tension in it...
