Part 2

Chimera
Part 2
By Mieren

Several months later…

“Mission accepted,” Tsunade sighed. Her eyes were rimmed with black from lack of sleep. Leaf was at war with Sound. They didn’t have the funds to wage war and were hence forced to take any mission requested of them, no matter how ridiculous. Almost in tears, she called in Shizune and sent out the acceptance notice of the newest and thus far highest paying mission sent into Leaf.

“Anko,” she called. The named woman appeared before her instantly. She rattled off a long list of names, ranging from chuunin to sannin. “Bring them here immediately.”

“Yes, Hokage-sama,” the woman said, vanishing in a blast of smoke.

Within a few minutes, the requested individuals stood before her, some filthy from practice, a few rumbled from sleep, one naked and dripping wet from a bath, and one, guess who, sporting a boner. Lee, Ino, Shino, Tenten, Neji, Kiba, Hinata, Chouji, Sasuke, Asuma, Kurenai and Gai stood in the filthy group. Shikamaru, naturally, and Kakashi were the ones barely awake. A very unhappy Sakura was the one wearing only a towel, absolutely soaked. No surprise, Jiraiya was sporting the happy stick.

“You all have one day to prepare for an S-ranked mission,” Tsunade said wearily. “The parameters state that at least one sannin, four jounin and their chuunin students were to attend.”

“That many for one mission?” Jiraiya asked, frankly disbelieving.

“Stone Village has reported a roving demon that their ninja cannot defeat. They have requested that we locate and destroy the creature,” the blond answered with a sigh. “It was last reported to be somewhere in the mountains.”

“Why don’t they send their own ninja to handle it?” Sasuke asked, looking annoyed as always. He didn’t like his training to be interrupted without a good cause.

“Because it has defeated everyone they send for it and even their ANBU refuse to challenge the thing any longer, so they sent for us,” the Hokage sighed again. “Since we are one of the stronger villages and they knew we wouldn’t turn down possible funding in a time of war, they singled us out.”

“And what does ‘this thing’ look like?” Gai asked, beginning to become interested. Trust the green spandex-loving, hyperactive madman to want to take on a creature that an ANBU team couldn’t handle.

“No one has gotten a good look at it. All they know is that it’s big and it’s white and it won’t be happy to see you.”

Shikamaru made a weary noise. “Why do something so troublesome? Let’s just hire Gaara and make him crush it with that Desert Coffin of his. We get paid, he gets a cut of the cash, and we don’t have to tromp around looking for some monster.”

“Gaara is the Kazekage of Sand, idiot,” Ino snapped, slapping him upside the head. “He can’t go tromping around on missions!”

“Why not?” Kiba asked haughtily. “They’re asking for a sannin. How is this that much worse?” Akamaru barked in agreement.

“They also specified that we provide at least one individual with Sharingan and one with Byakugan,” Tsunade further explained. “Any other advanced bloodlines thrown in would bring us a bonus for each.” At that, she looked meaningfully at Shino, Shikamaru and Ino.

“If we catch it, I say we let it loose in Sound,” Sakura said, more than slightly evil after being dragged out of a nice relaxing bath.

“Our orders are to kill it,” Tsunade said wearily. “You’ll all be dispatched at seven in the morning at the front gate. You are dismissed.” The assembled group started to file out when she called one last thing to a certain silver-haired jounin. “And Kakashi, seven means seven, not noon, not three in the afternoon.” Kakashi snorted.

To be continued…
Sorry it’s short. I promise that later bits will be longer. R&R! I’m a real pig about that.

Updated so soon (busy work schedule) because I made a bet on whether or not I'd get a review from one hour to the next. There was another review, so here we go.
