Chapter I: The Daily Dealings

Kabuto led him although the forest, through the Snake’s lair, and right up to Orochimaru in his nauseating throne room filled with festering corpses and dried blood splashed across his dilapidated walls. The smell was overpowering even to the boy who’d become a man here, and the boy who grew up here from childhood. It was common sense—most would stay away from a room quite like this as much as possible…

Sasuke knelt down on one knee, looking up from behind his curtain of navy bangs.

“SssSasuke-kun…” Orochimaru hissed from the semi-darkness of the room. Kabuto sauntered across the room to his master, leaning over the back of the reeking chair. He leaned over, pushed the glasses up his nose, and whispered something in Orochimaru’s ear. The man leant his ear to the man to better listen, long, white fingers wrapping around the bespectacled male’s chin.

A slow smile grew across those thin lips, eyeing Sasuke for a fleeting moment before reverting his eyes back to his servant. Sasuke frowned severely, not liking where this was going; he was vaguely aware that Orochimaru was planning to do something with him. But then again, he was also faintly bored with all of this. He sometimes caught himself thinking he would rather be with Naruto than in this Hell hole. Yes…Naruto, the boy he killed years ago. His best friend. Sometimes he would even desire to join him in death. Those times were brief, but still genuinely there.

Sasuke bit back a laugh, he thought that part of him that could feel remorse and sadness was dead…but it seemed those feelings never really left him. They were just buried under years of treachery, hate, and anger. Sasuke snorted mentally, he would rather stay with the hate and anger rather than feel sadness ever again.

Orochimaru cleared his throat, breaking his reverie. He turned back in his seat to face his pet, resting his chin in his palm. “SssSasuke-kun, did you finally kill your brother?” He asked, eyes glittering with revolting hope. Sasuke finally realized why Orochimaru had waited this long. For him to kill his brother. Apparently, now the man thought his body at it’s peak and was preparing to steal it.

The Uchiha boy broke a cold sweat as the revelation came to him in Orochimaru’s all-knowing smile. He suddenly realized that he must get out of here. At all costs. And he also realized he was taking too long to answer. “Y-yes master…” The word was repulsive-sounding on his tongue.

Orochimaru smiled and turned to Kabuto, “Leave us.”

“But Orochimaru-sama…”

“You heard me Kabuto-kun.” Orochimaru answered sharply.

Kabuto turned, walking out, glasses flashing. It was a sign he had things to take care of. With an evil smirk, he headed down the hallway, leading out of the lair. There was business to attend to. As he left from the door, he heard : “So tell me how it was done?”

The dark silluette shifted exasperatedly on his seat on a flat rock. Kabuto pushed up his glasses, folding his arms to his chest, “What do you plan to do now?”

The figure grunted, “Itachi was one of our best, and now we’re missing one of our own. We need to replace him of course.” He stated as it was completely obvious.

Kauto shifted uncomfortably, “You know what’ll happen now, don’t you? Orochimaru will want to use his jutsu now. He’s been impatient lately, and now that Itachi’s dead, he’ll see this as a perfect opportunity. Even Sasuke must see this now.”

“Then get him out of there.”

“But—“
“You know what to do Kabuto, you’re not stupid. Ask Sasuke to join us, let him follow in his brother’s footsteps. “The figure laughed heartily, waving him off, “Go on, before it’s too late. The last thing we need is for Orochimaru to have a new, stronger body.”

Kabuto bowed before taking his leave. After that, he hurried out of the murky cave that was Akatsuki’s lair, not even pausing to spare an overcome-looking Kisame a parting glance. He headed toward Konohakagure; there was still one more thing to take care of…

Making his way to their meeting place, Kabuto was sure to not let anyone see him. He had sent his cohort his hawk, a red ribbon tied to it’s leg to signify important new data. Their meeting place, however was nothing out of the ordinary, and certainly not private by his standards, but hey, it was Konoha, the safest village yet.

Leaning against the metal railing, he looked out to the Hokage Mountain, the ancient faces of past Hokages carved in stone. He sighed, he sure missed Konoha. He’d been rather busy lately, what with watching Sasuke and all. And now this…

“Aahh… So it was you.”

Kabuto turned to face a tall, older man, arms folded across his broad chest and with a jovial expression on his face, “Jiraiya.” Kabuto stated flatly.

He grinned, “Well, it seems you have some new knowledge. Please, share it with me quickly, Naruto, Sakura, and I have only just returned from training abroad.”

Kabuto nodded and leant against the rail, hands resting on it from behind, “Sasuke has succeeded in killing his older brother, Itachi.” He broke the news. Jiraiya’s smile faded, “He has, has he?” He said grimly.

“Yes, and now Akatsuki is after him as well. And to make matters worse, Orochimaru plans to perform his Body-switching jutsu soon.”

Jiraiya strode over, pat Kabuto on the head and smiled wearily down at him. Only now did his true age show through, “You’ve been very patient in all of this, thank you Kabuto; you’ve been a great source.”

Kabuto nodded curtly, and with out saying goodbye, jumped off the railing and off the rooftops, soon disappearing into the tree line. But it will be Sasuke who will be doing the disappearing soon…Kabuto thought.

And as Jiraiya watched him go, he sighed, shoulders slumping, as he heard feet tap down to the ground, jumping from the statue above. “So, Sasuke has finally succeeded…what will he do now?” The old man asked the figure behind him.

The Jounin sighed heavily, “I don’t know. But I wish he would come back.” His voice was heavy with guilt and sadness. “To come back to me.”

Well…there ends another chapter! Sneaky Kabuto, no? Sorry this chapter was mostly Kabu-centric, but it had to be done to proceed with the storyline! There might be Lime in the next chapter, so stick around!

With Love,
Kaz
