Letter on the Nighstand
*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*
Shana reached out and slammed her hand down on her alarm clock, nearly breaking it in half. She was reliving what she and Shikamaru shared that night in a dream and she was sure as hell that nothing beeped while they were making love. She stretched out, and reached out for Shikamaru.
He wasn’t there.
She sat up, and searched all around her room as she did when she first heard a floorboard creak from Shikamaru. She didn’t see him. She looked over at her nightstand to see if the kunai she had thrown at him was gone to check to see if it had really happened. It wasn’t in its usual place. Instead it was imbedded in the headboard of her bed, where Shikamaru had thrown it. In its place on the nightstand was a single rose and a note. She picked up the rose and unfolded the note. Her eyes welled with tears as she read what her dear Shikamaru wrote to her.
Dear Shana,
Please do not worry. What we shared last night was not a mere answer to a calling of primal lust. The truth is that I love you. From the moment I laid eyes on you I knew you were the one for me. You’re everything I have ever hoped to find in a woman. You’re more than I ever hoped for. Years ago, I only wanted a simple woman who was neither a beauty nor a hag. But now I feel so lucky to have fallen in love with the most beautiful woman in all the villages. I’m sorry I had to leave you to wake up alone, my love. I have an important mission today, as do you. Please be careful on yours today. I promise, when you come home, I’ll be waiting for you with open arms and love in my heart. I love you, Shana, with every fiber of my being.
