Chapter 2
Naruto awoke feeling disoriented. 'What's that sound...that scrapping noise?' he wondered, trying to pinpoint its location within his bedroom that seemed unusually dark. At this time of night, when his window gave a clear picture of the full moon that should be at its zenith tonight, it should be a lot brighter than this. When the scrapping became a bit louder and his mind became clearer he figured it was probably that bastard boyfriend of his using his sleeplessness as an excuse to sharpen his weapons again. "Dammit, Teme, your gonna have hell to pay for making me loose sleep," he muttered getting up. He wondered briefly why he wasn't aching still from their exuberant lovemaking, and, telling from the darkness of the room, it was probably still early morning which meant Sasuke had only let him sleep for a couple of hours. 'Stupid bastard. He's gonna get an earful this time,' he grumbled to himself, feeling for the door where he thought it was in the dark and finding himself unwillingly bumping against any number of objects that shouldn't be where he was standing. Finally finding a handle he turned it in triumph only to notice that it lead into a lighted room that was defiantly not his. "What the Hell!" he gasped, looking through the highly decorated room that could only be one of the rooms in the Hokage tower with its vaulted, painted, wooden ceiling and walls. Due to security it was deemed necessary to keep rooms windowless in the Hokage tower to better protect the visiting dignitaries. 'That explains the dark room I just come out of...' he thought, but it didn't explain what he was doing sleeping in the Hokage Tower in the first place. Looking further around the room he finally noticed the source of the scraping sound was Kankurou working on his new puppet, Masho, that looked like a cross between a lion and a man. 'No doubt with hidden traps and weapons hidden within its joints', he thought remembering the Sunanin’s previous puppets.
"Yo, Kankurou..." Naruto grinned in the other boy’s direction in greeting, "Fancy meeting you here..."
The puppeteer looked up from his latest masterpiece to eye Naruto oddly, "Your awfully chipper after rest aren't you?"
The blonde laughed, "Heh... Yes. Well, I could still use a few more hours sleep."
Kankurou laughed at that, "Well, I can't really blame you with what happened yesterday."
'I hope he's not talking about Sasuke...' he blushed thinking to himself of how his boyfriend had boasted about breaking his record last night, but he didn't think the bastard would go around bragging about it. "Eheh... Well, I plan to make a certain someone pay for what they did to me last night."
"What do you mean?" Kankurou looked more angry than the situation warranted, "Did someone try to attack you last night?"
He got up and moved to Naruto's side, leaned in close, and examined the younger nin's face making the other feel uncomfortable with the close proximity of their two faces to each other. "Or was it the demon...?"
Naruto was confused by all the cryptic speaking and talk of demons. 'Maybe Sasuke hadn't said anything to him,' he thought, still somewhat confused why he was sleeping in the Hokage Tower in the first place. "Look..." he smiled companionably in the puppeteer's direction, "My demon’s safe and secure..." he patted his stomach, "and I wasn't attacked. Let’s just forget I said that, since it was just a dream."
Kankurou nodded grudgingly believing his story, "Fine..., but if anything happens tell me?" He smiled, "It’s good to see that your a little less psycho with sleep, but you need to learn to distinguish your dreams from reality little brother." He smirked clapping Naruto on the shoulder, "Why don't you take a shower. I'll tell Temari your up."
"Sure..." the blonde smiled good-naturedly back, "Just tell me where it is in this maze."
The puppeteer laughed, "Man..., a little sleep and you loose all sense of direction." He pointed off to a side door, "It’s just over there. Some of your clothes are inside, so take your time. I'll be back in a little with Temari and breakfast," he waved goodbye to Naruto before exiting the suite’s front door.
Naruto shook his head amusedly at Kankurou's retreating back as he left, wondering why the older shinobi was being so familiar with him all of a sudden. He walked into the bathroom, turned on the shower to get the hot water going, and started removing his clothes. It was then he noticed someone moving near him in the bathroom that was quickly becoming hazy due to the amount of steam coming from the shower. Squinting to get a closer look, not realizing he was moving closer and closer to a mirror, he noticed a face getting closer and clearer to him through the fogged-up room. What Naruto noticed first were a pair of striking aqua eyes, followed by pale as moonlight skin, short, blood-red hair, and an eyebrow-less face sporting a single tattoo that read 'love' in kanji. "Gaara..." he whispered in surprise watching the Kazakage's mouth move but not hearing the words when at this distance they shouldn't have been missed. "I sorry, Gaara. I didn't hear what you said. Can you repeat that?" He moved his arms to emphasize his lack of hearing Gaara when he continued to speak at the same time as Naruto, but nothing was coming out of his mouth that the blonde could hear. Seeing Gaara mirror his every gesture he started to become a little angry. 'What the hell is he thinking?' he wondered. Moving to tap the redhead on the forehead, he rammed not into Gaara but the smooth, glassy surface of a mirror instead. "Wha..." he started, becoming shocked at what he was seeing. It wasn't the Kazekage himself in the bathroom with him at all. Naruto was the Kazekage!
Pausing to take deep breaths with his eyes closed, he counted to ten and reopened his eyes hoping that what he'd just seen was an illusion, but the image however wasn't going away. Naruto gasped in horror realizing that he was in Gaara's body. 'No...' he shook his head thinking that this couldn’t be possible, but then that would explain why Kankurou had called him little brother when he only called the redhead that. There was only one explanation and that was he was now Gaara. He found himself getting dizzy in shock and sat back down to contemplate on what he should do. Like a light bulb had gone off over his head, he realized that this must somehow have something to do with the jutsu Tsunade had performed last night in resealing Shukaku into Gaara like Kyuubi was sealed into Naruto himself so that the redhead could now sleep but still have access to Shukaku’s power.
Having a goal in mind now, he quickly took off the pajamas he had, or rather Gaara had, slept in and looked through the closet in the bathroom for a change of clothes. Most of the clothes were too dark for his tastes, but doubting anything like his own clothes would be in sight he decided to pick out the closest thing to put on that was close to what he usually wore. The outfit he finally decided on was a pair of tan cargo pants, an orange shirt with a blue, swirl pattern on it that he hadn't expected to find hidden amongst the redhead's things, a black sweatshirt of Kankurou's, and a pair of Gaara’s black sandals.
Leaving the bathroom, he noticed both Kankurou and Temari sitting at the low dinning table on pillows setting up their places so that they could begin eating breakfast that consisted of pancakes, toast, sausage, bacon, eggs, hash browns, coffee and tea. The two sand siblings looked up as one to smile in greeting in who they thought was their brother's direction.
"Hey, Gaara... Just in time. Sit down and have some breakfast," Temari grinned companionably while patting at the seat next to her. Naruto wasn't sure that he should accept the invitation since he believed it was better to find Tsunade first, but his stomach growling made the decision for him. He proceeded to sit down at the table on one of the pillow seats and began to fix a plate before he would leave to go find Tsunade.
Both Kankurou and Temari watched in surprise as their little brother began consuming a mass quantity of the breakfast before him like a starved man, which Gaara never did since he tended to not have much of an appetite in the morning and usually only ate some toast and had a cup or two of coffee. Looking at what he was wearing was a shock too, since it resembled something more along the lines of what Uzumaki Naruto would wear more than their brother. "Uhm..., Gaara...?" Temari started uncertainly hoping not to anger him, "Don't you think the Uchiha might become a bit suspicious of your intentions if you wear that?"
Naruto's head rose in mid-bite to stare at the blonde girl oddly. "What do you mean?" he managed to say with his mouth full.
"Well..." she gestured with her hand the length of Naruto's person, "That outfit's more his taste, not yours."
"I don't think it looks too bad on me..." Naruto said looking down at the clothes he'd chosen, "I think I look cute."
Kankurou sighed along with Temari, "Look, little brother, I know you have the hots for the Kyuubi holder, but dressing like him is a little obvious don't you think?"
Naruto, hearing those words, spit out what he had in his mouth in shock (which happened to be egg, which narrowly missed landing on the two sand siblings). "What?!?!” he sputtered in disbelief, "I don't like Naruto that way!"
The puppeteer began to laugh as though it was some huge joke, while Temari only shook her head in concern, "Really, Gaara... I thought you were past the denial stage."
Kankurou tried to speak between laughs,"Hehe...yeah...hahah. You said that you loved him... Hahaha...." Temari slapped the back of Kankurou's head not finding the predicament amusing.
"Look, Gaara, it’s not that we don't think you two wouldn't be great together, but you have to consider that Uchiha... You said it yourself that the bastard was possessive and wouldn't let Naruto-kun go without a fight. And wearing that..." she pointed out the outfit Naruto had chosen to wear as Gaara, "It kind of screams ‘Naruto.’"
"Well, I'll just say I wanted a change of pace..." Naruto grinned, forgetting for a moment that Gaara didn't smile like that. Luckily neither Temari nor Kankurou seemed to notice.
Temari sighed again, "I don't think it would please Hokage-sama if you started a fight in Konoha... You said it yourself that maintaining the alliance to secure peace for Sunagakure is most important. You can always try less expressive ways of gaining Naruto-kun’s attention."
Naruto blushed at Temari's words, having never known that Gaara cared that much about him. "Ok...., I'll go change," he said, smiling slightly at the two as he got up and went back to the bathroom to change again. It had shocked him to hear that someone like Gaara liked him that way, and he found himself unconsciously comparing the redhead and Sasuke in his head. 'No,' he thought, shaking his head to clear his thoughts, 'I can’t think of Gaara that way when I have Sasuke... I love him, not Gaara.' But the doubt in his feelings had been planted; now only time itself would show if such doubts would bare fruit.
Well, that's the end of chapter 2. I will be working on the next chapter of 'The Switch' soon. So I hope you look forward to it and I hope you review since I love hearing what you all think about my stories. Also many thanks to Lady Chimera for all her Beta help. Ja Ne for now.
