Chapter 2

The next morning, Sakura, Naruto and Sai arrived at the front gates. As usual, Kakashi was late.

“You think he could at least be on time for this.” Sakura said.

“Yeah, we are retrieving Sasuke after all.”

Surprising ten minutes later, Kakashi showed up.

“You’re…. Surprisingly early.” Sakura said.

“Of course I am this is an important mission after all.”

“If you think that then you could have arrived on time.” Naruto muttered.

Kakashi heard Naruto but chose to ignore him.

“Let’s get going.”

The three followed Kakashi out the gates. Usually Sakura and Naruto would have been

talking with Kakashi occasionally making a comment but no one spoke. It was like they

all understood how important this mission was. In Sakura and Naruto’s minds it was the

most important mission they had gone on. It was a mission to get their friend back.

Sakura had a determined look in her eyes.

‘We won’t fail again. We’ll bring you back this time Sasuke-kun.’

It was getting dark so the group stopped to set up camp.


“Naruto, you catch us some dinner. I’ll go get fire wood.” Kakashi said.

Sakura wanted to protest but she said nothing. She had always felt uncomfortable being left alone with Sai. She

watched as the two walked away and turned around when she felt eyes staring at her. She looked confused when she

noticed Sai staring at her.

“Sasuke seems very important to you.” He said.

“Of course he is. He’s my former teammate as well as my friend. I’m going to do whatever is necessary to get him

back.”

Sai didn’t say anything, just continued to stare at her. She looked at him confused again and turned away.

‘Kakashi-sensei, Naruto, please come back soon.’

Sasuke shrugged the girl off of him. She sighed in disappointment and poured him so more tea.

Orochimaru had taken Kabuto and Sasuke to a teahouse for the night.

Sasuke sighed in boredom and turned to look at Kabuto when he heard a giggle. Apparently he had whispered

something naughty in the geisha’s ear. He looked across the table when he heard another giggle. Orochimaru had

pulled a geisha onto his lap.

‘I always thought he was gay. Maybe he’s bi?”

The geisha who had poured him tea, sat quietly next to him. She had given up on trying to make conversation with

him.

‘When can we leave? I’m tired of being around these geishas. They’re so annoying.’

Sasuke cringed as he heard one of the geisha’s high-pitched laughter.

‘Yup, definitely annoying.’

Sakura almost sighed in relief when she saw Naruto and Kakashi come back.

‘Thank god, the silence was unbearable!’

Kakashi made the fire and Naruto began cooking the fish. The delicious aroma wafted through the air and Naruto

almost drooled.

Once the fish was done cooking, the four grabbed a stick and began eating.

“Yum yum, fish in my tummy, fish in my tummy!” Naruto sang.

The other three looked at him, sweat dropping.

“Naruto…” Kakashi began.

“Why are…” Sakura continued.

“You singing?” Sai finished.

Naruto looked at them and gave a big grin.

“Because I feel like it!”

The three fell over anime style. Luckily their fish didn’t get dirty.

They climbed back onto their logs and resumed eating their fish.

“I wish I had brought some Ramen!” Naruto shouted.

“Keep it down.” Sakura ordered.

Naruto crossed his arms, pouting.

“I was just saying I wanted some Ramen.”

“Loud enough for the whole forest to hear. Sakura’s right Naruto, you need to keep it down.” Kakashi said.

“Besides, you’ve already had some fish.” Sakura added.

Naruto continued pouting and Kakashi and Sakura sighed. Even though Naruto had grown older, he was still

immature.

The four chatted quietly, ok Sakura and Naruto chatted quietly with Kakashi and Sai occasionally making a

comment until Kakashi decided it was time to go to bed.

“We have an early day tomorrow. We should get to bed.” He said.

“You mean we have an early day tomorrow. You probably won’t get up until a few hours after we do.” Naruto said.

Kakashi casually picked up a rock and threw it at Naruto’s head.

“OW!”

“Get to bed.”

Naruto turned away, rubbing his head. He grumbled about stupid lazy perverts while he crawled into his tent.

“Good nigh everyone.” Sakura said, crawling into her tent.

“Good night.” They responded.

Sasuke stared up at his ceiling while he lied in bed. The feeling of something big was about to happen wouldn’t

go away. In fact, it got worse.


‘Why am I feeling like this? I wish whatever was going to happen, would just happen so this feeling would go

away!’

He rolled over onto his side and closed his eyes. His eyes quickly popped open as a vision of Sakura filled his

mind.

‘Damn it! Go away! I left you behind. Why do you continue to haunt me ‘

He knew why she continued to haunt him. It was because he loved her and he missed her. He sighed in frustration

and rolled back onto his back. He sighed as he stared at his ceiling.

He closed his eyes again but her face filled his mind. He opened his eyes and turned back onto his side. After

closing his eyes and seeing her face again, Sasuke opened his eyes again.

He continued to toss and turn but he eventually fell asleep but before he did so he had one last thought.

‘I’m sorry…Sakura.’

The next morning Sakura, Naruto, Sai and Kakashi woke up. After eating breakfast, they packed up their stuff and

continued on their mission.

They were close to the Sound Village when they heard a voice.

“It’s the old Squad Seven and with a new member.”

They looked up and saw Sasuke standing on a small cliff.

Sasuke and Sakura’s eyes met. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Naruto spoke.

“We’ve come to take you back!”

“Che, I’d like to see you try.”

Sasuke jumped down from the cliff and landed in front of Naruto. Before he could react, Sasuke punched him in

the face, Naruto stumbled back and Sasuke kicked him in the stomach. Sai ran towards Sasuke but he drew his

Kusanagi, stopping him.

“If you interfere, I won’t hesitate to kill you.” Sasuke said.

Sakura was surprised at how casually Sasuke said that. It was like he was commenting on the weather or something.

‘Sasuke-kun has changed.’

Naruto ran at Sasuke performing his Shadow Clone Jutsu.

Sasuke watched this, with a bored look on his face.

‘To easy.’

Electricity crackled around Sasuke’s body and Sakura, Kakashi and Sai watched in shock.

“Get out of the way Naruto!” Sakura shouted.

However, it was too late and the electricity hit Naruto and all of his shadow clones.

Naruto was knocked unconscious and unfortunately Sai was standing to close and was knocked unconscious as well.

Sakura grabbed a kunai and ran towards Sasuke.

Sasuke stared at her, unsure of what to do.

‘I don’t want to fight her.’

Finally, Sasuke decided to just defend himself.

Sakura’s long hair whipped around as she continued running towards Sasuke. A clashing noise sounded throughout

the air as her kunai hit his sword.

“You’re kunai doesn’t stand a chance against my sword.” Sasuke said.

Sakura knew he was right but still tried to force his weapon out of his hand.

Sasuke suddenly jumped back and turned to face Kakashi.

He quickly dodged the shuriken Kakashi had thrown at him.

Sasuke sheathed his sword and performed hand signs. He had to stop to dodge a kick from Kakashi. He tried to

jump away but Kakashi had managed to grab Sasuke’s leg.

Kakashi let him go when he got shocked.

‘That jutsu again!’

Sasuke quickly performed the hand signs and a blinding light appeared. Kakashi grabbed his eye and Sasuke

quickly appeared behind him. He knocked Kakashi out and his body slumped to the ground.

Sasuke turned to leave but Sakura’s voice stopped him.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“I’m leaving.”

“We’re not done here!”

“Sakura, give it up. You know you don’t stand a chance against me.”

‘Besides, I don’t want to fight you.’

“I’m not as weak as I was before! Fight me!”

Sakura once again ran towards Sasuke and he quickly turned around. He grabbed her hand, stopping her punch.

Sasuke let go of her fist and jumped away.

Sakura looked at him, confused.

“Why won’t you fight me?”

Sasuke looked at Sakura.

‘Because I love you and I don’t want to hurt you.’

Sasuke didn’t say this and just continued to look at Sakura.

“Is it because you think I’m weak?”

Sasuke still didn’t respond and Sakura mistook his silence as a yes.

“I’ll show you I’m not weak!”

Sakura punched the ground and Sasuke’s eyes briefly widened as cracks formed on the ground.

He jumped far enough back and activated his Sharingan.

“At least you’re taking me seriously now.” Sakura said.

Sasuke looked at Sakura thoughtfully.

‘What do I do? Can I escape without hurting her? No, I can’t. She’s already proven that she’ll just come after

me. I’m sorry Sakura; I have no choice but to attack you.’

Sakura’s eyes widened as she saw sadness pass through Sasuke’s eyes. It was gone so quickly that Sakura wasn’t

sure she saw it at all.

‘Why would he look sad? Is it possible he doesn’t want to hurt me? No, that can’t be it; Sasuke-kun doesn’t care

about me.’

Sasuke did hand signs and jumped in the air.

“Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!”

Sakura remembered this jutsu and got out of kunai to deflect the shuriken that would be hidden in there. To her

surprise, there were none.

‘He must have known that I would be expecting it/’

She turned around when she heard a noise but didn’t see anyone there. She turned back around and gasped as she

fell to the ground. She looked up and saw Sasuke standing in front of her. Sasuke had tripped her. He twisted

her wrist; forcing her to release her kunai He lightly placed his foot on her stomach.

“I’ll give you one last chance. Stop trying to fight me.”

Sakura stared at him in defiance.

“No, I’ll bring you back to Konoha if it’s the last thing I do.”

“Suit yourself.” He said, removing his foot.

He allowed Sakura to get back up. She only stared at him.

“Aren’t you going to attack me? What happened to all your tough talk?” Sasuke asked.

“Don’t you miss Konoha?”

Sasuke looked shocked by her question but he quickly recovered.

“Give it up Sakura. I’m not going back with you.”

“That’s not what I asked. Don’t you miss Konoha?” Sakura repeated.

“I broke my ties with the village a long time ago,”

“You’re avoiding my question which makes me think that you do miss Konoha.”

Sasuke didn’t say anything.

“Why won’t you come back home?”

“I need the power Orochimaru can offer me. I have to kill Itachi.”

“You can get stronger in our village! Orochimaru is just using you! He’s going to take over your body!”

“I don’t care as long as I can kill Itachi. Nothing else matters.”

“Don’t be stupid! Do you honestly think he’ll let you kill Itachi? He’ll take over your body before you can do

so.”

Sakura surprised Sasuke by grabbing his wrist.

“He’s going to use your body to kill people! Are you honestly ok with innocent people dying? It may not be your

mind but it will be your body! How can that not bother you? Orochimaru is going to use your body for his sick

purposes! He’ll probably attack Konoha again using your body this time. Whether you admit it or not Konoha is

your home! Are you ok with him possibly attacking it?”

“Shut up.” Sasuke whispered.

He ripped his wrist out of her hand and glared at her.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about! Your family wasn’t massacred! So just SHUT UP!” Sasuke shouted.

Sakura stared at Sasuke in complete shock.

“Go home if you know what’s good for you.” Sasuke said.

He never intended to carry through with the veiled threat but Sakura didn’t have to know that.

“It’s true that I’ll never understand what you're going through, for you’re right, my family wasn’t massacred.

They’re still alive. I do know that you won’t get your revenge by being with Orochimaru. He’ll take over your

body before he allows you to get your revenge. He never intended let you get your revenge. All he cares about is

taking over your body for his twisted purposes.”

Sasuke didn’t want to admit it but Sakura’s words were getting to him.

“Did you know that Orochimaru is weaker than Itachi?” Sakura asked.

Sasuke looked shocked at the news.

“I’m guessing by your expression that you didn’t. You don’t get stronger by fighting for yourself or seeking

power. You get stronger by fighting to protect the people you care about. Do you have someone to protect?”

Sasuke stared into Sakura’s eyes.

‘You. I want to protect you.’

Sasuke knew he had to escape before Sakura’s words completely got to him.

‘And go where? You can’t go back to Orochimaru, he’s weaker than Itachi.’

Sakura had hoped she had gotten to Sasuke and was disappointed when he turned away from her.

Sakura quickly grabbed Sasuke’s wrist.

“Damn it Sasuke, why are you going back to someone who’s weaker than Itachi? Come back home!”

Sasuke turned around, glaring at Sakura, Sharingan activated.

“SHUT UP! I won’t go back to Konoha until I’ve killed Itachi! Why can’t you get that through your thick skull

and leave me alone?!”

“NO! Not until you come back with us!”

“I’m not going!”

“Yes you are!”

“NO!”

Sasuke and Sakura glared at each other. Sometime during their yelling, Sasuke had managed to pull his wrist out

of Sakura’s grasp.

Suddenly he leaned down and roughly kissed Sakura. He pulled her body towards him and plunged his tongue in her

mouth when she gasped in surprise. She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back.

Sasuke softened the kiss and wrapped his arms around her small waist.

Naruto, Sai and Kakashi all groggily awakened. Their eyes widened at what they saw.

‘What the hell?’

I know Kakashi probably wouldn’t be up yet because Sasuke knocked him out the same way he knocked out Sakura.

Even Naruto and Sai might not wake up yet but I wanted all three of them to see the same thing, so yeah. Please
