Chapter 1 – Love for Konoha

-o-o-o-o-o-

-x-x-x-x-x-

The harsh rays of the sun entered through the windows and made its presence known by landing on my face.

Grunting in irritation, I tried to turn around to get more sleep. But the moment I started to move, pain erupted through my entire body.

Ok, so sleeping in was no longer an option.

Wincing in pain, I forced myself on my back and opened my eyes slowly, seeing that it would be stupid to open them while facing the sun.

I blinked, and blinked again.

‘Where the hell am I?’ I asked myself, staring at the cracks that adorned the ceiling.

‘Wait... those cracks looks familiar...’

It was then I realized that I was in my own room. But I was still confused. Why was my body in pain?

I tried to recall anything that would lead me in this condition but nothing came.

Seeing that it would be pointless to keep on thinking, I got up and padded straight towards the bathroom for a shower. For some strange reason, my body felt sticky.

I was about to undress myself when I realized that I was naked.

‘Strange...’ I wondered since I never sleep nude.

Glancing at my bathroom mirror, I took my time to study myself.

My eyes that were usually filled with ‘energy and happiness’ were now dull and empty, my golden blond hair was not in its usual untamed spikes.

My complexion had gotten pale, no longer having that golden color it once held.

I sighed, wondering if my teammates would notice my appearance.

‘Wait... what am I thinking? Of course they won’t notice. Why would they bother worrying about the dead last anyway?’

The thought was depressing, but I couldn’t help but accept it. Almost everyone in this village hated me and wanted me dead.

‘I am a monster after all...’

Heading towards the shower, my eyes caught something red in the mirror. Turning back, I tried to see what it was and frowned.

At the junction of my neck and shoulder, a deep red bloody bite mark marred my skin.

Looking at it closely, I noticed four deep puncture wounds along the bite marks, making it look as if it was made by someone with fangs.

‘How in the world did this happen? I don’t recall getting bi...-ten... by...’

-Flashback-

I was lying down on my bed face down.

Panting, my face flushed as I stared at the figure hovering behind me.

A feral grin adored the man’s lips as he bent closer to my neck, his long hair leaving ghostly touches on my back and shoulders. His breath tickled my skin, causing me to shudder.

“You’re mine, Naru-chan.” The man whispered in a husky voice. “No one else can touch you for your mind, body, and soul belongs to me and only me.”

I nodded, fearing whatever punishment that might come if I didn’t respond.

“Very good.”

With that, he revealed his fangs and bit me at my neck, marking me as his possession to do as he pleased.

My eyes widened to the size of saucers.

I staggered back until my back reached the bathroom wall. Sliding down until my butt met the floor, I hugged my self tightly.

Everything that had happened last night came to me, the pain, the fear, the humiliation, everything.

‘No wonder my body is in pain, it is all because of last night...’

I don’t know how long I was in that position trying to calm myself.

I know what had happened, how it happened, and why it happened, but I still couldn’t believe that I went through all of it.

Why did I do it?

‘It is because you love this pathetic village.’ a voice suddenly stated in my head, disgust evident as it spoke.

‘Love? I love this village?’

I pondered on the thought.

‘Yes... I do love this village.’

I got up from the floor and padded towards the shower.

‘It’s because that I love this village that I was willing.’

I turned on the knob, not bothering to wait for the water to warm up. Cold water hit my skin, causing me to shiver lightly but I didn’t care.

‘I was willing to let ‘that’ happen to me... because it is for the village.’

Tilting my head upward, I let the now warm water cleanse me.

‘It is for the village... because I love Konoha.’

I finished my shower and got dressed in a pair of hip-hugging black pants, a fitted sleeveless red shirt, and a pair of black arm warmers. Afterwards I headed towards the kitchen for a quick breakfast.

Searching through my cabinets, I took some slices of bread and a bottle of juice.

As I munched through the bread, I let my thoughts wander, thinking about what would happen to my life now.

After the successful retrieval of Uchiha Sasuke, everyone in the village had stopped harassing and displaying their hate towards me.

They no longer sneered and cursed me. They no longer chased me out of stores or sold me spoiled goods.

It was nice; it was as if they accepted the fact that it was I who brought their precious Uchiha back from defecting to Orochimaru.

But what followed next was something that I never expected.

I had no idea how it happened, but someone had spilled the secret about Kyuubi’s existence.

I assumed that I would be scorned and hated further by everyone, including those in my age group and below.

But I assumed wrong...

What happened next was more painful that getting hit, spit at, sneered at, and beaten.

It was more painful than being blamed or punished for something I didn’t do.

Everyone in the village, including those in his age group, no longer acknowledged my existence.

Whenever I wandered around in the village, no one would look at me. Whenever I tried to talk to anyone they would ignore me as if I wasn’t there.

Whenever I tried to approach anyone of my ‘friends’, they would point blank avoid me and leave the premises immediately.

I was glad that the shopkeepers would not completely ignore me whenever I made a purchase. But the thing was that they would only notice me when I was about to pay for the goods.

After the transaction was done, they would resume ignoring me like I wasn’t there.

The treatment hurt... it really did. But I couldn’t help but love Konoha as it was.

I was relieved that a number of people still acknowledged me.

There was Tsunade, Jiraiya, Shizune, and Iruka-sensei. They still accepted me and my existence. They didn’t ignore me nor push me away.

Grateful, I continued to ‘smile’ even from the ‘treatment’ I received from almost everyone.

For deep in my mind, I knew that someday my life would get better...

Someday it will...

My gaze wondered around through my kitchen before it landed on the clock hanged close to the ceiling.

It took me a moment to realize what time it was.

‘Shit! I’m late!’

Gobbling up the rest of the bread and orange juice, I grabbed a white jacket and jumped out of my window.

Nearing my destination, I spotted my teammates from a distance. But a realization made me stop.

I kept my presence hidden as I watched them from afar.

‘These two are no different... so why do I even bother going here?’

Just like everyone, both Sasuke and Sakura no longer acknowledged my existence. They ignored me completely whenever I tried to get their attention.

I even punched Sasuke in the gut once, but he just brushed it off and Sakura didn’t even hit or berated me for hurting her ‘Sasuke-kun’.

A puff of smoke signaled the arrival of our sen- no, their sensei.

“Ohayo!” the masked man greeted, earning him a yell from the pink-haired Kunoichi.

Hatake Kakashi only brushed her off started to look around, searching for something or someone.

“Where’s Naruto?” he asked, making me snort mentally for his display of concern.

My two ‘teammates’ only shrugged in response, making him frown and consequently making me confused.

‘Why did he frown? Why would he even be bothered by my absence? He is one of those who ignored my existence, leaving me on the sidelines as they trained.’

Not wanting to see anymore of his false worry and concern, I left.

I sat quietly on top of the Hokage Mountain and watched over the village.

It was evident that everyone down there was happy with their lives, no worry marred their faces.

A small smile tugged my lips as I continued to watch over them as the sun set.

Konoha’s beauty was really a wonder, and I was certain that there was nothing else like it.

‘A beauty that does not deserve the presence of a demon.’

With that in mind, I guess that the village’s behavior towards me was justifiable. A monster like me would only taint the beauty it had earned for so many years.

I stayed there until it was dark.

The cold evening embraced my form, making me shiver from the cold.

Deeming it time to go back, I stood up and was about to leave when a chakra signature made me stop.

“What are you doing here Hatake-san?” I asked, noticing the frown that graced the silver-haired man’s face.

He stayed silent. But his gaze was fixed on me.

I sighed.

“Of course...” I stated in a weak voice but it was loud enough for him to hear. “I don’t exist... so why would someone bother replying to thin air?”

I turned around and walked past him.

“Besides, I am nothing more but a monster that tainted the purity of Konoha. Acknowledging my existence will be like acknowledging the importance of a speck of dust.”

I continued walking, not bothering to think about the shocked expression on Kakashi’s face.
