I do not own Naruto, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Being Cruel To Be Kind
A/N: Thanks so much for the reviews. I really love reading them. Just so you know, I will not be putting up the next stud in my ANs. I would rather surprise you. Also, I will be doing really odd pairings like with Kisame and others down the road. Yes, I will be doing 3-somes and things like that, but for now, its one-on-one. Ok, I'm off to write more smutty goodness.
Please continue to read and review. A happy muse makes writing a lot easier for me.

There was a time when she would have run to him with open arms and a warm smile. However, that was not the case now, as he soon discovered.
Returning from Orochimaru had been a real eye-opener for Sasuke. He knew that he would have a lot of explaining to do, and did to the hokage, and to the people of Konoha. He explained that he felt that the souls of his murdered family could not rest until their killer, his very own brother, was dead, and so, he needed to be the one to silence them. And he did, with no regrets.
The village of Konoha, surprisingly, had been sympathetic. Of course, Naruto and Kakashi-sensei had a lot to do with that, and after some time, welcomed him home with open arms.
Team seven was reunited, and even had an addition with Sai mixed into the group. At first, it had been unnerving because the artist looked so much like him, but after a while, they managed to find a comfortable medium and worked well together, though the other man had chosen to bestow the nickname 'bastard' onto him.
The only person who did not seem very happy to see him was Sakura. Now, he was still considered to be unapproachable. After all, leopards cannot change their spots, nor would he change his attitude or behavior. But, her demeanor was cold and uncaring, as if she simply stopped caring about him.
He supposed that he deserved it. The day he left Konoha, he had said some pretty harsh words to her, though they were untrue, and then knocked her unconscious so that he could begin his journey. He could still remember those words as if he had spoken them only hours before.
“Please don't leave, Sasuke. We can fight him together, and win.” Sakura said, her green eyes filled with tears as she stared at his back.
Slowly, he turned, his eyes cold. “You want to help me fight him?” He asked, his tone filled with amazement.
When she nodded, he sneered, “You can't even fight for yourself, except against Ino, and everyone knows that she is a better fighter than you. I'd have better luck going off into a fight with a simple village girl at my side. At least she'd be somewhat useful. You have a habit of hiding behind me, Naruto, and even Kakashi-sensei.”
Her mouth dropped open in shock, and she stammered, “B-but I've been doing so well. I've learned these new jutsus and.....”
“And they are a waste of time. Healing jutsus are handy for someone who actually knows what they are doing, but you simply learn the basics, and never fine-tune them. You are always looking for someone else's approval, but know this, you have never had mine.” He snapped.
Large tears began to trail down her cheeks, and for a moment, he paused. But, he had to remember that if he didn't get rid of her, there was a chance that she would follow him and get herself killed. No, it was better this way. Clean. Simple.
“That's right, go ahead and cry. You always cry.” He said, and then sighed. “But, I expected that from Konoha's cry baby.”
She took several deep breaths and softly said, “I thought we were friends, Sasuke.”
Stepping up to her, he reached out and gently tipped up her chin with his fingers. He allowed a condescending smile to grace his lips and softly replied, “I was never your friend. I would never want to be associated with someone as weak as you.”
Before she could say another word, he performed a sleeping jutsu and quickly rendered her unconscious. Catching her in his arms, he picked her up and moved her over to a large tree, and placed her beneath the shade.
His eyes softened, and he brushed the hair out of her eyes, but then stood. He had a job to do, and he needed to get started. Too much time had wasted, already.
It was clear that he had destroyed all ties with her, and he knew that he had to be the one to rebuild them. So, he started to make small gestures, and comments, though none of them seemed to be noticed by her.
Naruto, Sai, and Kakashi-sensei stayed quiet as they watched his attempts, and his failures.
However, he finally got his chance to corner her one evening, at a dingy hotel. Kakashi, Naruto, and Sai quickly claimed one of the two rooms, leaving the other room to him and Sakura.
It was clear to him that she was not thrilled about sharing sleeping quarters with him and shot him a nasty glare as she walked past him and to the stairs.
The old man behind the counter began to laugh and said, “That little lady is a little hellcat, isn't she.”
Naruto began to laugh, as Sai muttered, “More like a hag, if you ask me.”
That little statement, of course, is what started the fight that caused Kakashi-sensei to raise his voice, startling the two men, and anyone else who had ears. As he marched the two fools to their room, he snapped, “Since you want to act like an old married couple, then you can share a bed like an old married couple, too.”
This earned their sensei groans as he smirked. Better them than him. He walked to the door of the room he was sharing with Sakura and quickly let himself in. He saw that she had already claimed a bed, which was by the window, and had turned on the television.
She looked up to see him enter, but then snapped her eyes back down to what she was watching, never saying a word. He moved around the room, taking off his weapons, and sandals. He climbed on his bed and proceeded to watch the program she selected, though soon found it to be boring and stupid.
“Isn't there anything better on?” He asked, his eyes turning towards her.
“No.” She replied, her tone curt and final.
Lifting his eyebrow, he regarded her quietly before saying, “We need to talk, Sakura. We can't keep acting like this towards each other.”
Shrugging a pale shoulder, she said, “We've already talked.”
With his temper beginning to get the better of him, he sat up and swung his legs to the side of the bed, so that he was now facing her.
“Why don't you grow up?” He snapped. “We are not the same people we were four years ago.”
Sakura's eyes slowly slid over to look at him, and before he could even blink, she was on her feet. He could practically feel the anger radiating off of her.
“Grow up?” She snapped. “I have grown up, Sasuke. I am no longer that foolish, little girl who followed you around with adoring eyes. I see you as you truly are, and have no illusions as to who you could be. You're still a traitor, and in my eyes, you will never be anything more.”
Standing up, he noticed that he towered over her. She didn't bother to move back to give him some space, and he had to admit to himself that she had come a long ways since their genin days.
“How did I betray Konoha, Sakura?” He asked, quietly. “Or, are you speaking about my betrayal against you and the idiot?”
Sakura's beautiful face froze, but then she began to laugh. When she finally managed to control her laughter, she asked, “Are you kidding me? You betrayed everyone, and it was only because Naruto and Kakashi-sensei spoke up for you that you were allowed to return. But, you and I both know that it is only a matter of time before you do it again.”
Crossing his arms over his chest, he shrugged. “And if I do, so what? What are you going to do about it?” He demanded.
“I'll do this.” She said, and aimed a punch at his jaw that was so fast that he didn't even see it coming. He landed up against the wall, but managed to stay on his feet. He rubbed his sore jaw and looked up to see her grinning. “And to think that I didn't even use any of my chakra in that punch. Would you care to see what I can do when chakra is involved?”
He pushed off from the wall and slowly approached her. The woman before him was quickly growing agitated and he knew that he was finally making some progress with her, though he wished it wasn't so painful for him. Though, for her, she appeared to be having a good time.
Stopping directly in front of her, he quietly said, “This isn't about my leaving Konoha. This isn't about me betraying anyone in the village. This anger is over what I said to you that day I left, isn't it?”
The grin on Sakura's face fell, as she listened to his words. Her eyes grew big, and she quickly shook her head. “You're crazy. I don't know what you are talking about.” She snapped and turned her back to him and walked over to the large window.
He followed her, not caring about the consequences of such a foolish decision. After all, the most dangerous animals were the ones who felt they were cornered.
“That day, I said many things to you, things that I regret saying because none of them were true.” He said, his tone even. He watched as her shoulders stiffened and she shook her head.
“I am done talking, Sasuke. I want to go to bed.” She said, her tone now weary. She turned to find him directly behind her, and she gritted her teeth. “Please move.”
“No.” He replied. “Not until we work this out. We have to, Sakura, or we will never be able to move on and rebuild.”
Now she was angry. “Rebuild? Rebuild what, Sasuke? What in the hell did we ever have? You told me yourself that you were never my friend, and that all of the hard work that I had done was a waste of time. So, what exactly do we need to rebuild?” She demanded, her eyes dark with anger. It was clear to him from the glassy appearance of her eyes, that she was trying not to cry. Or to show him any weakness.
Looking down at her, he knew that every word he said that day to her was running through her mind, tormenting her with the cruelness and pain. What she didn't know was that every word he had said to her was nothing more than a lie.
“I couldn't let you follow me. I couldn't allow you to endanger yourself because of me.” He explained. “That was why I spoke to you the way I did.”
Lifting an eyebrow, Sakura snorted. “Riiiight.” She sneered. “And I suppose that you told me all of that for my own good, just because you cared.”
He watched as she shook her head. “You are a self-serving prick.” She snapped. “You should have done everyone a favor and stayed gone, Sasuke.”
“Damn it, Sakura.” He fumed. “Do you think that I would have saved you all of those times, or gone out with you and Naruto if I didn't care about either of you? I cared about both of you enough not to involve you in the mess that was between me and Itachi.”
“Yet, you didn't care enough to simply tell me the truth and tell me to stay behind. Instead, you ripped me apart from the inside out, stripping me of all my pride, just so that you could feel better about what you had decided. How noble, you dick.” Sakura spat.
He had heard enough. He reached out and shoved her up against the wall, his body against hers so that she couldn't wriggle away. His dark eyes were dark with his own anger and he said, “I already had people that I had to avenge. I couldn't add your name to that list. I didn't need to lose another loved one to my brother's insanity.”
Sakura's face froze in shock. She had learned to read people, mostly because Tsunade-sensei had explained to her that a good medic could tell when a shinobi was lying when they claimed to be fine. Kakashi-sensei was proof that most shinobi would suffer through their injuries, just so that they could go on another mission. Her instincts were telling her that his words were truthful.
Seeing that she was listening, he internally breathed a sigh of relief, but then continued on. “Itachi was a very sick person. His sharingan had ripped apart his sanity, and in the end, he was nothing more than a rabid animal. I left Konoha, mostly because if he had ever found out that I cared for you and Naruto, then he would have come after you. Sakura, he would have killed you and I wouldn't have been strong enough to stop him.”
Biting her lip, she asked, “So why attack me? You could have simply said to me what you are saying now, and I would have backed off.”
He gave off a soft laugh, though it wasn't harsh. “Whose lying to who, now?” He asked, and leaned forward to gently place his forehead against hers.
“If Itachi was going to come after someone, I would have rather it have been Orochimaru. At least that would be two evils against each other, and I would not have had to worry about intervening. I would have loved to watch them kill each other off. But, if it had been you, and he had taken your life, then there would have been nothing that could have stopped me from losing my own sanity.” He whispered. “You, Naruto, and Kakashi-sensei are my family. And even Sai, who I still am not too sure of, is included in the people whom I would protect. Nothing could have stopped me had it been one of you to die at his hands.”
Twin tears began to slide down Sakura's cheeks, and she watched as he moved closer to her, bringing his lips to her cheeks to kiss her tears away. But, she couldn't stop the small part of her mind from doubting him.
“But, you said that I was weak. You said that I was useless.” She said, as she shook her head. She gasped when his hands grasped hers and gave her hands a gentle squeeze.
“I said anything that I had to in order to make you not follow me.” He replied, and let go of her hands, only to wrap her arms around her soft body.
“But...” She began, but was silenced when he asked, “If I didn't care for you, why do you think that I would have taken the time to use a jutsu on you to make you sleep, rather than to just knock you out? I didn't want to cause you any more pain than necessary. Just as I wouldn't cause you pain, now.”
Sakura wanted to believe him. She was quickly falling victim to the heat of his body and the scent that was uniquely Sasuke. But, before she could ask him another question, he kissed her.
His lips were like velvet. As he kissed her, he pulled her closer, and moved his body so that she were up against the wall.
Inside, he rejoiced when her lips began to follow his lead. When her mouth opened, at his request, he allowed his tongue to enter, and stroked at hers, enticing it to play. The kiss started out soft, but as she grew used to him, her mouth became just as demanding as his, and her tongue played with his.
He felt her attempts to free her arms from his embrace, and moved back slightly for her to lift them up. He groaned when he felt her arms wrap around his neck, pulling him in closer to her. His hands moved down to the backs of her thighs, and he lifted her up, and encouraged her to wrap her legs around his waist.
As he moved towards his bed, he was thankful that she had removed her weapons. He didn't want to have to take time to remove anything else besides her clothing. He wanted to devote all of his time to her and their coupling.
She could not help but lose herself in his arms. She had known that her heart was beginning to melt towards him at his words. But, she wasn't sure if she could trust him.
He could feel her slight hesitance. Breaking the kiss, he looked up into her green eyes and softly said, “One day at a time, Sakura. We have all the time we need, now, and this time, we'll do things right.”
When she nodded, he kissed her again, as he lowered her onto the bed, and followed, pressing his weight against hers.
His hands made fast work of her clothing, and his own. Soon, they were pressed up against each other, skin-to-skin. His mouth moved over her body, coaxing moans and sighs from her, as he learned her.
His hands were gentle, as they pulled her legs apart, and when he dipped his head to her core, she stiffened. He whispered to her, his tone soothing and calm. Little by little, she relaxed and allowed him to have his way.
He looked upon her for the first time, well, the first of many times. Every single inch of her was breath-taking. And, she was all his. He would make sure that she never had any doubt as to his feelings. Only their little group would have the privilege of seeing him as he was, but others would simply get his cold shoulder.
But, the woman beneath him would get something extra. She would get to see him when he was weak, sad, happy. He would give to her what he could not afford when Itachi was alive. She would get him, in every single way. And, he would have her.
He would take every night that they had together, and he would love her. She would be the only woman to ever claim that she had been loved by Uchiha Sasuke. She would also be the only woman who could claim to have his children. If he could not be with her, then there would be no Uchiha heirs. The line would stop with him.
She gasped and cried out his name as he kissed the delicate folds of her sex. His tongue would dart in and out of her body, lapping up the moisture that she produced for him. His name crossed her lips, in breathless whispers, and she swore that each time she said his name, he would squeeze her thigh.
When she came, her hands tightened in his hair, her body stiffening. He mercilessly lapped at her clit, forcing her to fall off that sweet edge that separated her from paradise. But, as her hands lessened their hold, he nuzzled her thigh, and placed sweet kisses upon her hips as he made his way higher.
At her stomach, he paused and then pressed a lingering kiss upon the soft skin that adorned her belly. One day, hopefully, his child would rest within and he would gladly be by her side, waiting.
He moved up, making sure to pay homage to her breasts before settling his body between her thighs. Looking down at her, he opened his mouth to tell her how he felt, to tell her what was in his heart.
“I love you.”
Blinking, he had the stray thought, 'That's my line.' But, a soft smile crossed his lips and he leaned down to touch his lips to hers.
“I know, and though I've never said it, I love you, too.” He said, his dark eyes searching hers.
There was no more need for secrets. No more need to hide emotions or feelings. If they were going to build new bridges, then they had to start with different foundations. This foundation would be the beginning of a good, long life.
Upon hearing his confession, her eyes widened as she felt him beginning to press into her body. Neither of them were virgins, and they both knew it. But, he still took his time, allowing her body to grow used to his girth within her, before pushing forward.
He was patient, and when he had finally come to rest fully within her, he wrapped his arms around her body and began to slowly pump within her. He wanted her to know that for him, this was not fucking. This was not just a lay that when over, they would simply go on their merry way. For him, this was what they needed to heal.
Sakura felt her body tightening with each of his powerful thrusts. However, the sensations were tripled by the knowledge that he actually seemed as if he cared about her. When he hit a sweet spot deep within her core, she cried out, only to have him thrust and hit it over and over.
He heard her cries, and panted with each thrust. To hear such sweet sounds coming from her was driving him insane. He increased the power behind each thrust, and as he did, her cries grew louder.
When her body began to tighten around him, he pulled out of her, earning him a hiss of displeasure. Smiling down at the glaring green eyes, he moved her around so that she were on her hands and knees before him. Sliding back into her body, he moved his own body to cover hers, using his body to keep her from moving.
His hand moved between her legs, and his finger began to twirl over her clit, earning him a mewl of pleasure. Smirking, he moved his lips to her ear and whispered, “Do you like that, baby? Does it feel good?”
Sakura's eyes were closed and she gasped. His voice was rough and laced with lust, and as he spoke to her, the pleasure seemed to intensify.
Finally, she could take no more. The spring in her stomach snapped and her nails dug into the sheets, making small tears as she rode out the wave of her orgasm. As her body strangled his, he allowed himself release, his hot seed rushing into her womb, and bathing her insides.
They collapsed on the bed, breathing hard. It took several moments before he had enough strength to slide out of her and to the side. However, his hold on her only tightened as he pulled her close to his body.
She allowed him to arrange her so that her head was upon his chest. For several long minutes, neither said a word. He relaxed, allowing his fingers to run thorough her hair, as he thought of all of the time he lost with her. Now, he could begin to make up for it.
She lifted her head, and rested her chin on his chest. Her beautiful eyes studied his, but before she could say a word, he said, “Remember, one day at a time. We have the rest of our lives to worry about the 'what ifs'. Let's just concentrate on the 'right nows'.”
Biting her lip, Sakura nodded and put her head back down. Her eyes seemed to have a mind of their own, and slowly began to close. As she began to drift, she smiled and snuggled closer to the man who had been her childhood fantasy. But, he would still need to prove to her that he deserved her loyalty. She would give him a little trust, but he would have to work at gaining her full trust. But, as he said, it would be one day at a time.
He laid there, awake, long after the woman in his arms fell asleep. He was an avenger, now, he was a lover to the woman he had fallen in love with so long ago. He didn't know when it had happened, but he knew, that day so long ago when he had crushed her, that he would die if anything should happen to her.
Now, he had a new chance for a new beginning and he wasn't going to waste a single second of it. Itachi, in his madness, had made an excellent point. Never waste the time you have, for you never know how long you have until it is ripped away.
He had been given a second chance. With Sakura at his side, he would rebuild the Uchiha clan, and his home. With her as his wife, he knew that their lives would be filled with laughter, children, and love.
Finally, the avenger was truly home.
~!~
Three pairs of eyes stared at each other, and slowly moved away from the wall that separated the room that their friends shared.
Taking a big gulp, Naruto timidly asked, “Do you think that they are ok?”
Kakashi nodded and said, “I think that they have worked out their differences. Don't be surprised if they act differently towards each other tomorrow morning.”
Sai cocked his head and asked, “What do you mean, Kakashi-san? What did the hag and bastard do that would make them act differently? From the noises that they were making, it didn't sound like they were doing anything but arguing.”
Kakashi rubbed his forehead, and was about to answer, when Naruto grabbed his precious Icha Icha Paradise, flipped to a page with a pretty graphic picture of a man and woman screwing and snapped, “This is what they were doing, you idiot.”
Sai studied the picture for several moments, but then nodded. “Too bad for you, dickless. Now that bastard is off the market, perhaps the unibrow would be happy to give you a go.” He said.
Naruto turned several different shades of red before leaping off of the bed, and lunging at Sai. But, he was stopped in mid-jump by Kakashi, who simply wanted to get his book back from the irate blonde.
“Sorry, dickless, but I am not into guys. I guess that means that you'll have to go solo. Again.” Sai retorted, then went back to his sketch pad.
Naruto growled at his teammate, but then pouted. It just wasn't fair. Sasuke had Sakura, Kakashi had his book, and Sai had his sketch pad, and what did he have? Nothing. Now even a large bowl of ramen to console himself with. He was miserable, and damn it, he was hungry. Life was just so unfair to him.
Please continue to read and review. A happy muse makes writing a lot easier for me.
