Common Denominator
Chapter two: Heart
Gaara didn’t mind the fact that he was carrying another human, much less physically touching them. Strangely Gaara felt a little more at peace carrying this boy. Gaara ignored the horrified looks from people who knew him and the “Awwws” from those who didn’t. Some of the spectators thought it an odd sight. A teenage boy decked out in all black holding an umbrella over a blond boy who was unconsciously hugging the pale boy looking at peace and quite young for the age of 17 asleep.
Gaara barely felt the rain pouring down on his head. All he could feel was the slight pressure of a chest when the boy inhaled and the… Heartbeat. It was soft and soothing Gaara had never felt this way. Most people were afraid of him. He had a habit of being morbid. Many people thought of him as being morbid, like he had some kind of disease that no one wanted.
His brother and sister claimed to love him, but he was never sure. Not. Once. He had never known his parents. He heard stories from his sister from when he was little, but only broken images were what he received not the whole picture. It seemed his siblings were keeping something from him, something big. Gaara was a little too unfocused at times to piece anything together.
Gaara faced back at the problem at hand. The redhead turned his head enough to see the boy on his back. The sight, if a little unfocused by the angle, took his breath away. The boy was an angel sent to earth. Surely not for Gaara though, Gaara was the angel’s exact opposite. Gaara felt like dirt compared to the boy on his back. Gaara almost couldn’t look away. The boy looked so perfect, with his blond hair and perfect angelic features. The whisker marks just added to his animalistic beauty.
The redhead had decided to take the boy to his and his siblings’ apartment since he had not even a strand of thought to where the boy lived. Gaara was new to the neighborhood, but not the town. He had lived on the other side of town, but it was a bad part, even Gaara detested living there. Gaara had gone to a different school and was now enrolled in the a little less respected Kanoha High School, aka by the ones who go there, K-town’s school for those who were too fucked up or couldn’t afford to go anywhere else.
Gaara let his mind wander while he walked. He still had 9 more blocks to go.

Naruto’s eyes fluttered from time to time catching dips and flashes of the world of the living as he danced between them. He preferred the world of the dead. There he didn’t feel like crap. Naruto was under the impression he was floating on something warm and soft. He hugged his floating pillow tighter. He felt the pillow tense then relax. Naruto dreamt peacefully of redheaded angels with excessive eyeliner.

Gaara somehow managed to get the key out of his back pocket and open the door without waking the blond angel. Though as he tried to set the boy on his bed the boy started to whimper and open his bleary eyes wanting the warmth back that came from their combined body temperature. The boy started to reach out to him like a needy child. Gaara felt something in the general region of his heart. Like Gaara was a puppet and the angel was he puppet master pulling on invisible heart strings.
Gaara laid down facing the boy. Who in turn cuddled closer to the emotionally retarded teen. Gaara smiled truly smiled, it was the first time in his life he could actually remember smiling, Gaara never expected it would be the first of many to come.
For once in his life Gaara felt actually happy…(1)

(1): Why do I write such corny, cliched endings?
So, so? What do you think? Too fluffy? I personally like it. Just a peek into Gaara’s head mostly. Btw, all my stories are UN-BETA’D! How do I get by you ask? By being a grammar/punctuation snob.
