Chapter 2
2nd chapter
How long the black-haired teen sat there and stared into space he wasn't able to tell, but somehow realization struck him: He had reached the aim of his life.
Strangely enough no feeling of relief, no satisfaction ensued, but...
The boy didn't know how to place this feeling because it wasn't what he had expected.
If he hadn't known it better he would call this uneasy and oppressive feeling guilt.
He felt like crying.
Memories of his childhood swept over him showing him a time when everything had been different.
He almost heard his father’s footsteps on the wooden floor and sensed his presence. He almost smelled his mother’s food again and saw her standing in the kitchen, busy preparing it.
And he remembered his brother carrying him home piggyback and almost felt Itachi's flick on his forehead, as if he had done it only seconds ago.
Sasuke crouched and pressed his hands tightly against his chest, where he sensed the center of this searing pain, desperately hoping that he would be able to mend and stop this black hole, which tried to spread across his whole body, wanting to consume him. His breath was ragged and flat and he felt as if he was suffocating.
Even more pictures of his past flooded the young male's mind, but he'd rather shun these images of blood and death.
As Sasuke started trembling, he kept asking himself over and over again, 'Why?'
Why had his brother committed this massacre? Why had he done that? He’d never understand it.
Would he have been able to prevent it, if he had warned his father that he had had a bad feeling regarding Itachi? Would he have been able to stop his brother, if he had interpreted the signs better? Would he have been able to bring his brother to his senses during the murders? Or would he probably be among the dead? Had it been luck that he had gone home later than usual that day?
Why did Itachi create such a blood bath in the first place?
While his thoughts were running in circles Sasuke became aware that he would do everything imaginable to undo the past. All he had ever wanted was to live a decent life with his family...
But he knew this wish would never be fulfilled.
The raven-haired youth was abruptly interrupted in his thoughts as he sensed known chakra presences nearby.
Instinctively he made sure that is emotionless mask was in place, because he definitely didn't want to show them his real thoughts. He turned his head and with his typically stoic gaze he watched three ninjas slowly approaching him.
The way the pale-blue-haired male in front walked was sluggish and he dragged his feet along. The reason, Sasuke noticed, was the huge sword Samehada, which Suigetsu had wanted to be in possession of for a long time and now finally called his own. It was obvious that the weight of the two oversized blades the Kirigakure-nin wore crosswise on his back was too much for him. However this fact didn't seem to spoil his good mood, because his grin was one of the most sheepish one's the Uchiha had ever seen. Suigetsu's clothes were wet and torn but the skin underneath didn't show a single scratch.
Sasuke let his gaze wander to Team Hebi's other members. Juugo carried Karin on his arms and he looked exhausted and battered. Several wounds on his body testified to the fierceness of the previous fight.
The red-haired girl seemed by far most seriously injured. A heavily bleeding gash on her right thigh was amateurishly bandaged up with some piece of cloth. She appeared very pale and weak and Sasuke put this down to the immense blood loss. He was aware the annoying four-eyes probably wouldn't survive much longer without medical care.
However it didn't really bother him.
"I see you were successful," the blackblue-haired teen greeted the three in a condescending voice when they stood next to him. He wouldn't even stand up for them, it wasn't worth the effort – apart from the fact he wanted to have a rest.
Suigetsu grasped Samehada and drove the sword into the ground where the leader of their squad sat. He knelt down in the grass next to the two brothers and grinned at Sasuke, showing him his triangular teeth. "Did you expect something different?" the pale-haired boy tried to provoke him.
"Hn," the young Uchiha replied indifferent, "I already thought I had to help you, because you took so long."
"Hmph. It was no problem, really! It rather looks like you were the one that needed our support, ‘cause – honestly, Sasuke..." the Hidden Mist ninja replied sneering while he looked him up and down, "...you looked better before. Besides you forbade us to interfere with your fight. You said that we were only allowed to approach you when Karin sensed either your or your brother’s chakra only."
The raven-haired boy raised an eyebrow slightly irritated, but found it unnecessary to reply to this comment. Merely a waste of oxygen in his eyes.
"They... will b-be here... s-soon...“ Karin's voice was shaky and weakend and she spoke so low she was barley heard.
But every member of Team Hebi was aware that the redhead was talking about their persistent persuers they just weren't able to shake off. According to her statement there were eight shinobis, one of them – or rather his kage bunshin – they had already met before.
Instantaneously Sasuke considered the situation in his mind:
He knew it was in vain trying to shake off Naruto. Furthermore the Leaf-Ninjas outnumbered them by far. Let alone that he and his squad weren't really in top condition.
"Running away would be futile. We wouldn't get very far," concluded the 16-year old with a composed voice, "Moreover the group has served its purpose and I don't need you any longer. Saying this I officially break up Team Hebi! You may go. Those ninjas are only interested in me, so they'll probably leave you in peace."
"Well, that's my cue. I'll make myself scarce, since there are five other swords waiting for me," the boy with bluish hair smirked while he stood up. "You know, Sasuke, you aren't thaaaat bad as a leader. Maybe we'll meet again one day, but hopefully without those two." With these words he turned his gaze disparagingly to the girl and the giant man. Then he pulled Samehada of the ground and walked away, barely lifting his feet.
For a little while Sasuke watched Suigetsu approaching the edge of the forest with slow steps.
Then he focused his attention on the remaining members of his just disbanded squad. The young woman had a life-threatening injury, so she wouldn't go anywhere. But even if she wasn't wounded she would probably stick by his side, the Uchiha was sure of that.
'I've had many annoying fan girls, but she's by far the worst,' flashed into his mind. The dark-haired boy had never understood why all those females were attracted to him – it beat him.
"I was never interested in your plans as an avenger, Uchiha Sasuke. However you told me you'd act as my prison to prevent me from killing anyone. So either keep your promise or lock me up again," Juugo explained his decision to the other male.
The sharingan user simply noded as a sign of his agreement.

The cool air of the forest swept pleasantly chilling across the Jinchuuriki's tanned skin. Naruto took a great leap forward as he pushed himself forcefully off the thick branch beneath him.
The other ninjas that were racing through the trees with him had problems to match the speed of the energetic boy.
"We'll be there soon," Kiba growled, who appeared riding on Akamaru's back next to the blonde, "Over there on the clearing."

No, Sasuke won't be angsty till the end, however right now I just think those feelings are normal considering his situation.
So sorry for killing Itachi and Kisame, I like both characters. But Itachi's death was necessary, because the whole idea of the story was born of my thoughts "What if ...?"
And Kisame... I wanted Suigetsu to have Samehada...
