Itachi's Death
Chapter 2: Itachi’s Death
My eyes were slightly heavy as I once again stared out the window of the hospital. It was night time and Sakura had gone home to Naruto, hopefully she was keeping that idiot from drinking rotten milk, then again, rumor had it he had actually learned his lesson the first time. I smirked at that memory, the dumbass actually managed to catch me and tie me up, it was the day I officially started to see him as a worthy rival… until him having to take a dump interrupted our fight. Even though Kakashi had resealed the curse mark and my wounds had fully healed due to my enormous chakra, the nurses, especially Sakura, weren’t willing to let me go home for at least another two days. So here I was stuck to alleviate the annoying kunoichi’s worry for my health.
I lifted my right hand out from under the blankets and concentrated on it, slowly, it began to build up chakra and lightning spread. I closed my fist and the small chidori disappeared in an instant. My limit was now six shots, and my eyes narrowed in wonder at what Kakashi-sensei’s limit was now. Better yet, how many times could the dobe use resengan in one day now? I flinched and grasped the curse mark in pain as it once more attempted to break past the seal. The damn thing was becoming even more bothersome now that it was developed and had to be locked up all over again.
---------------
The cave was dark and dreary, a giant hand was in the center of the chamber with its fingers raised upwards to the heavens, as if it were about to clench into a fist. There were two dead bodies, one of them was Pein. The only sign of life in that dark place was my scattered breath as I lay on the ground, Sakura scouting the area, and Naruto… fighting Itachi.
Naruto back stepped, barely avoiding the punch that my brother sent his way, with how much chakra was in that punch it would have killed him if it had hit. I didn’t have much chakra left so I had to think fast, there was no way Naruto could withstand the barrage that Itachi was sending his way. I began to get up but a heavy push sent my face careening into the dirt again, “Stay down Sasuke-kun, Naruto can handle him, trust me.”
Sakura had grown, she wasn’t just watching anymore, from what I heard she took down a few members of the Akatsuki herself. I gritted my teeth, how was Naruto still stronger than me after all these years? Was he really?
Naruto ducked another punch and I saw the thing I least expected, the idiot was smirking, “You know,” he said, sidestepping another punch, “For the infamous Itachi you’re not very fast.” My brother’s eyes narrowed as he stopped his assault.
“Naruto!” I screamed, “Watch out! Don’t look into his eyes!”
At the time I told myself it was out of habit, but now I realized it was out of pure fear and worry.
Too little too late, Itachi had activated the mangekyo sharingan, and Naruto was on his knees in a second flat. “What was…” he raised his hands and they were shaking.
“Now you see,” said Itachi quietly, “Why you can never beat me. Pein was a weakling; a creature that deserved to die. You have served your purpose, Naruto Uzumaki of the Namikaze clan.”
“Naruto-kun!” I felt the weight on my head lift and saw Sakura dashing towards Itachi, damn, she was letting her emotions decide her actions, that was the worst possible thing in this kind of battle. Before she even reached Itachi he brushed a hand to the side and sent her flying into a nearby tree.
“You already saw her die with my mangekyo, if you let me kill you I might decide to spare her life, Sasuke on the other hand. He’s overdue; he should be more powerful than me by now, so I’m simply going to put him out of his misery.”
“I won’t let you hurt my friends,” mumbled Naruto, “That blow to Sakura-Chan was your last.”
Itachi smirked and Naruto lifted his head, revealing blood red eyes deeper than the sharingan could ever be. Itachi smirked and tried to once again use his illusionary technique, but Naruto didn’t even flinch. “This can’t be,” whispered Itachi.
Naruto charged forward and Itachi was frozen in place, it was as if my brother was simply a practice post to him. Naruto held his collar and I slowly stood on my feet, the curse mark still burning my nerves badly. By the time I got to them Naruto was still mercilessly punching him. Itachi’s face was nearly crushed, and Naruto only stopped when I put my hand on his arm, “He’s mine,” I whispered.
Naruto nodded. The last thing I remembered was slitting Itachi’s throat with a kunai and watching him choke to death on his own blood, a fitting end for such a monster. However, as I had collapsed to the ground, I couldn’t help but wonder, had he left a monster in me to pass on his legacy?

I let my eyes slowly open, and ironically my head was turned towards the window next to my hospital bed again. I sighed, the confined space of the room was getting to me and I had to go take a walk or something to get my bumbling thoughts straightened out. The problem, however, was that Sakura kept insisting I stay in bed. I could’ve jumped out the window without telling her, but that would probably give her a heart attack and leave her wondering if I had left Konoha again. So I did the next best thing, I picked up my remote and flicked on the TV.
“In other news, Uchiha Sasuke has…”

“The Kazekage is joining us today for an interv…”

“The infamous Akatsuki has finally been…”
I turned it off with another sigh, it seems all that the hospital tolerated was news, and since when did Gaara do interviews? My thoughts were still haunting me, and I had no calming mid morning walk to arrange them. So I sat for an hour, thinking, trying to get them straightened out, it wasn’t working.
“Yosh!”
The yell came suddenly and without warning, it was familiar somehow. I looked over the window sill and sure enough, approaching the hospital was Rock Lee and Naruto.
“Finally, after all these years I must see what Sasuke-san looks like, so I can surpass him even more with my burning flame of youth!”
Naruto looked up at my window, a cocky smirk plastered on his face. I returned the favor.
“However! Do not forget that you are one of my eternal rivals as well Naruto!”
Naruto’s smirk disappeared and he turned to Rock Lee, “What were you saying Lee? I kinda missed it,” he said with a grin.
Lee sighed and dropped his head, “Why must you always be so hip?”
“Quit acting like Gai and let’s go!”
I smirked yet again; maybe some things really didn’t change.
