Chapter II: The Next Morning
I'm back! I wasn't really planning on continuing this, but it was just so cute that it was hard to let it go to waste. This chapter's kind of short, but I felt like this scene deserved to be told and I liked it the way it was. So here you go, on to chapter two!
All of A Sudden
Chapter Two
A strange house. A strange bed. His teacher sleeping right next to him. It’s no wonder why poor Sasuke didn’t sleep very well that night. And when he did wake up, he had a bit of a conundrum to deal with.
Well, I can either lay here and wait for him to wake up, get up and leave, or get up and go wait in the living room … maybe I should have asked yesterday, thought Sasuke. I don’t even know if we have lessons today …
As the young boy laid there pondering his options, he didn’t even notice the gray-haired man’s eyes watching him. Kakashi smiled inwardly at Sasuke’s thinking face, then he stretched and made soft sounds as if he hadn’t already been up for an hour. Sasuke glanced over at him, still undecided on his next move.
“Good morning, Sasuke,” said the currently unmasked man, slowly shuffling out of the blankets. “Did you sleep all right? I know it’s not the best bed, and to top it all off you‘ve never even been here before.”
“Oh - no, I slept fine, thanks,” lied the raven, more out of habit than anything.
However, Kakashi was not naïve enough to be fooled by the thirteen-year-old’s half-attempted lie, but he supposed he should give him credit for trying. He himself slept somewhat awkwardly, worrying about the boy for half the night. Looking at the clock, Kakashi lazily stood up and stretched, the muscles in his back rippling with his movements. He inclined his head towards the kitchen.
“I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling rather peckish this morning,” he said in a ridiculous British accent, trying to lighten the mood. It earned him a heavy stare from the boy before they both started to laugh, slowly migrating towards the kitchen.
Sasuke sat down at the kitchen table and got his first full look around the room. It was quaint, if not boring from a distinct lack of decoration. It was painted a very neutral shade of beige and contained only the essentials, but at least it was well organized. He looked over at Kakashi, who was currently searching through the stainless steel refrigerator.
“Honestly, I’m not much of a breakfast person, but I’m up for pancakes if you are,” said the scarecrow, now rummaging through seemingly random cabinets.
Sasuke shrugged his shoulders and made a noise for his approval, still too tired to really bother talking. Why was he so tired? He looked at the clock for the first time that morning and saw why; it was four o‘clock. Guess neither of them slept well.
“Um, Sensei?” the boy questioned, suddenly remembering. “Do we have training today?”
Kakashi tilted his chin up, looking up at the ceiling and stirring the batter as he thought. “Well, Naruto should be fine by now. Even if he’s not, he’s persistent enough to get by. So, yeah, I suppose we will. Around noontime. That okay with you?” he asked as he turned his attention back to the frying pan on the stove, the freshly poured pancake mix bubbling away.
“Yeah, that’s fine,” replied Sasuke quickly, content to have his answer.
As Kakashi slowly built up a tower of fluffy flapjacks, Sasuke tapped his fingers on the speckled gray counter and tried to act like this was perfectly normal.
They were just two guys eating breakfast really early in the morning .. okay, a teacher and his student having pancakes at four o’clock in the morning. Who happened to be attracted to each other. That wasn’t quite right either. All right, an adult teacher and his young male student having pancakes at a ridiculous hour because neither of them could sleep after … oh God, that actually happened didn’t it?
Sasuke’s palm quickly met his face as it flushed an interesting shade of red. Kakashi felt a surge of guilt.
This was probably a bad idea … I’m not really sure where to go from here. He’s probably pretty confused about the whole thing. Heavens, I’m still not even sure if he is gay. Sure, he didn’t seem too opposed to the idea, but maybe he was too afraid to say anything. But wouldn’t that make it rape?
With that thought, Kakashi’s face paled to a highly contrasting color of the pancakes that he had been ignoring for the last five minutes.
“Eh, Sensei, if you like your pancakes charred, then you should’ve taken that one off a few minutes ago.”
The teacher looked down at the unfortunate shriveled mass that he had created. Now the boy was probably going to ask -
“Is something wrong, Sensei?” Sasuke asked worriedly.
He turned and smiled at Sasuke. “Nope, this is just how I like them. Breakfast’s ready!”
As they sat at the counter side by side about to eat, Sasuke looked over and waited to watch Kakashi take his first bite of the ashen flapjack on the top of his plate. Kakashi glanced at Sasuke, smiled, turned back and tentatively took a chunk of the pancake into his mouth. As he chewed, he turned back to Sasuke and grinned slightly. However, his thoughts did not quite match his face …
I want to throw up. I want to throw up. I want to remove this vile substance from my stomach and drink a bottle of soap. Ick. Gross. Ew.
The things you do for love …
