The return

OMG! This didn't turn out like it was supposed too at all!! Sasuke and Naruto decided that what I wanted them to do was absolutely not what they were actually *going* to do. They are so mean to me... snif
I hope you like it! I tried to make it a little funny while still keeping the mood of the first chapter along with some surprises...
Enjoy and review!

*Naruto's pov*

I looked at the gates of Konoha and sighed. I smiled weakly and gathered my courage. I could do this.

Slowly, I walked to the two chuunin in front of the gates, my redhead companion on my heels. The two ninjas I didn’t recognise eyed me warily and once I was close enough asked me my name and what I wanted to do in their village. I was going to answer when I felt a familiar chakra approach us. My mouth clicked shut.

Sasuke was walking to us and I felt myself tense. I knew I would have to see him, but the later the better. Well, too bad, I already knew I had no luck for these kinds of things. He wouldn’t recognise me anyway. His scent was strong in the air, and I felt the urge to run to him and bury my face in his neck and smell him. Jeez, that was certainly the fox part of me speaking. I had the strangest urges sometimes.

“Who is this?” he asked his eyes on mine even if his question was directed at the two chuunin eyeing me warily. I smelled fear and I asked myself for the nth time that day, if it had been wise to hide only 80% of my chakra.

“We don’t know sir, he was going to tell us when you came.”

The three eyed me expectantly and I felt the corners of my mouth curve slightly upwards. If Sasuke couldn’t recognise me I didn’t have to worry for the others. I felt some of the tension leave my body.

“I’m the one you call the red angel, and I’m here on the request of your hockage.” I said, my voice showing none of my emotions and expressing a boredom I was far from feeling. But it was my usual voice now, the one I had been using for the past five years. I couldn’t believe it had been that long since I left the village.

Sasuke looked at me suspiciously and I stared back, suppressing again the urge to rush to him and kiss him until the only expression he wore was a blissful one. Shit. I had only just met him again and all the emotions I thought buried deep within were surfacing. That wasn’t supposed to happen. I was seriously fucked up. He didn’t love me back and I couldn’t afford to be hurt again. It had taken me so much time to get over it; I was NOT going to fall again!

“Follow me.” Not a request, no politeness, just an order, pure Sasuke. I nearly smiled one my sad smiles, god but I had missed the bastard.

We walked through the crowded streets of Konoha and I heard murmurs all around us.

“Is this Him?” , “Have you seen how tall he is?”, “Someone told me he saved Suna from an invasion with just one technique!”, “Who is he really?”, “Who’s with him?”…

I shut them out, ignoring all the noise in my head and took a deep breath. I saw my redhead companion from the corner of my eye and it was enough to calm me. We arrived at the hokage tower and climbed the stairs behind Sasuke. He knocked quickly two times then opened the door motioning us in with a crisp movement of his head.

“Hokage-sama your guest is here.”

“Thank you Uchiha” Sasuke left silently, closing the door behind him and leaving us alone with his Hockage. Which I thought was not an intelligent move considering that he knew nothing of me except that I was powerful.

Tsunade got up and around her desk. Red tensed beside me. She stood one foot in front of me and took in my appearance. The only thing she could see of me was my eyes as the rest of my face was hidden in the hood of my big cloak. She took in my dark blue (nearly purple) eyes and her eyebrows shot down, a deep frown now marring her features. I didn’t need my enhanced smell to know that she was confused by something.

“Is there a problem?” I asked, breaking the pregnant silence I couldn’t stand anymore.

This time her eyebrows shot up and I would have laughed at her expression if all my instincts hadn’t chosen that moment to scream “RUN!!”.

“Naruto?” she murmured, her face a mask of disbelief and sadness.

Uho, busted. I looked at her but didn’t answer. She could take it either way. She looked smaller than I remembered, but that could be because I was a lot taller than before. In fact, she looked extremely tired and I wanted more than anything to hug her but that was not an option.

Red moved slightly in front of me but stilled when I shook my head slightly. Tsunade was still looking at me, uncertainty written all over her face. Then in one swift movement I hadn’t predicted she took me in a crushing hug that blew all the air out of my lungs.

“Oh my god. This is really you. Oh, Naruto you have no idea how we missed you…”

She pulled back from the hug slightly and pushed my hood back and I let her. She looked at my eyes, the whisker marks I no longer had and the long orange-reddish hair framing my face. Letting out a shuddering sigh, she hugged me again and this time I brought my hands to her back and hugged back. I couldn’t hold back any more. I had really missed this.

We stayed like that for a long time before I gently pushed her away.

“What did you need the red angel for?”
She sighed and wiped the tears I had not realised had fallen, off her face.

“Itachi has been spotted near our border by reliable sources. We thought he is dead but apparently the bastard has more than one life… Why aren’t you surprised?”

“I already knew he was alive.”

“How?”

“He crossed my path more than once since I left.”

Tsunade stared at me dumbfounded. I nearly jumped when her fist slammed against the table. The noise was ringing into my sensitive ears. Instead I watched her blankly barely repressing a smile. That was more like the Tsunade I knew.

“And you didn’t kill him?! Na…”

“Don’t call me that.” I smiled at her to make it pass better “Call me red, that’s what they call me now. I didn’t come back to stay baa-chan. You were not even supposed to know it was me.”

She looked at me and I saw the pain in her eyes before she suddenly hit the table again, effectively breaking it in two.

“You didn’t answer my question and we will have to talk about the other matter later, after the Itachi problem is cleared.”

“He gave me a reason not too.”

“What? What are you talking about?”

“You asked why I didn’t kill him. Well, it was because he gave a reason not too.”

“Are you serious?! He killed his entire clan! There’s nothing he could have done to be forgiven for that! You should know that better than anyone else! You lived with Sasuke more than half your life!”

I looked at her but didn’t say anything. Images of the last time I had seen Itachi crossed my mind. Itachi with his wife, Itachi playing with his kids, Itachi trying to protect his family from me once he recognized me, Itachi reluctantly telling me he had been ordered by the hokage to kill his family when he was younger, Itachi…

My hand shot up and I realised I had a death grip around Tsunade’s wrist that were mere centimetres from my face. What?! Did she try to punch me?!

“Gaki! Answer m…!” rang through my ears and I realised it was the words she had been saying before punching me. Now her features were showing her shock. After all she was supposed to be one of the strongest ninja in this village and I had just stopped her without even thinking about it.

“You got stronger…”

No kidding.

“If you asked for the red angel so he could kill Itachi, I’m afraid you chose the wrong person Hokage-sama.”

She stared at me (again!) before shaking her head to clear it and said:
“He killed three shinobi that were patrolling around the village, I can’t let him… The only one strong enough to do something against him now would be Sasuke but he refused the mission.”

This time it was my turn to stare at her in shock. Itachi killed three shinobi? Why would he do that? And more importantly… Sasuke had given up a chance to kill his brother?! What happened while I was gone?! Did he know the truth? Had Itachi talked to him?
Tsunade sighed and slumped in her chair. She seemed exhausted and Naruto felt a pang of guilt.

“Let me think about it. I’ll tell you my decision tomorrow morning.”

Tsunade looked up and I saw a fleck a hope shine in her wary eyes.

“Thank you… You know, that’s not how I had expected our reunion to be. I missed you gaki.”

I smiled then, a sad smile, but at least it was a true one.

“I missed you too, babaa.”

“Why did you leave us, Na… Red?”

I smiled at her and I saw tears gather in her eyes.

“I’m sorry I could not protect you Na… Red.”

After a few minutes, she hugged me lightly then looked up at me.

“I’m proud of what you became, gaki. I’ve already made arrangements for your stay here. You will be staying with Sasuke since he is our Anbu Captain and he has room for you at his place. He needs company! He is even more moody than he was before! Can you imagine that?! Damn brat!”

My ears twitched as I heard someone sputter lightly on the other side of the door. I knew I had only been able to hear that thanks to my improved hearing so I smirked lightly and decided I deserved some fun. Tsunade baachan wanted me to unstuck the bastard, right? Walking soundlessly to the door I opened it in a brusque movement and stared impassively as Sasuke fell face first into the room. I was happy no one could see me laughing my head off in my mind. His embarrassed face and glare was just priceless.

*Sasuke's pov*

I fell hard and face first as the door I was leaning against suddenly disappeared. Still disoriented, the first thing I noticed when looking up from my undignified sprawling on the floor was smirking violet eyes. What the?!

I stood up again and brushed invisible dust from my arms. Uchihas don’t fall indignantly, I did it on purpose so he thinks I’m an idiot. Don’t laugh! It’s the truth. So now he underestimates me. If we have to fight I will have the advantage. Don’t roll your eyes!! I glared at the impassive face of the Nahred guy and then at an openly laughing Tsunade. I fell on purpose so stop *fucking* laughing! I swear if she was not the Hokage and if he was not her guest…

I glared some more before crossing my arms and waiting for the Hokage’s orders while looking out the window. From what I had overheard I would have to baby-sit the angel guy and that didn’t please me. Why me? I was *not* moody. Uchihas are not moody, they are mysterious and calm. And what if I didn’t laugh to jokes or do small talk with my friends? It was nobody’s business but mine. Shut up. I’m not trying to convince myself.

When after 5min I was still waiting for my orders, I looked up at my Kage and was met with an assessing look. Why was she looking at me like that? She must be asking herself what I had overheard. Well, it was not much, thanks to Shizune and her piercing eyes. Tch. But it was enough for me to want to know where my Hokage had met that guy before. They seemed to know each other pretty well and for her to say she was sorry… and she missed him? Questions were spinning in my head but I kept my face as bare as possible while maintaining my glare. She better not comment on my fall or she would have to find another place for her ‘protégé’ to sleep in!

“I am deeply sorry for his behaviour Red-san. I suppose he hasn’t told you his name yet. This is Uchiha Sasuke and he will be your host for the duration of your stay.”

Red? I thought it was Nahred? And would I have introduced myself to that arrogant guy?!”

The Hokage seemed to hesitate a moment before asking (while still ignoring me):
“Is your friend staying too?”

Red guy seemed surprised for a moment and looked around. When he saw the redhead next to him, he smiled and the back of my jaw nearly hit the floor as I realised his face was now uncovered. So much for an Anbu captain and his skills… Red was… He was… breathtaking…

“Mmmh I’m sorry, I forgot to make him dissipate.”

A *poof* vaguely registered in my mind but I was too entranced by the man’s features to know what the noise was. Damn. And the only thing I could see was his face, what would it be if I actually saw all of him? A slap at the back of my head brought me back to reality and helped my mind out of the gutter.

“Uchiha! Stop spacing out!”
“Red was it really a clone? How could you keep it that long?”

Red smiled again and I don’t know why but his smile made me sad, almost nostalgic. What’s with me today? Is this guy using some kind of jutsu on me? Just to be sure, I activated my sharingan and nearly jumped out of my skin at what I saw. This guy had been hiding his chakra! With the chakra level he was showing he was equal to me but when the hidden chakra was added,… it was simply impossible…

Cool violet eyes bore into my sharingan ones and I swear I could separate the color into two different ones; clear blue and blood red. But before I could take the time to reflect on that or see more, another violent punch was delivered on my already abused head. *Ouch*

“You really have to learn some manners you know! If you’re not more polite with our host I’m going to have a talk with your fanclub! Now show him his room so he can have some rest!”

*Naruto's pov*

I followed a fuming Uchiha out of the Hokage tower and a smile came to me naturally. He was so endearing like that. He sure had changed a lot. Even if Tsunade said he was more moody, he wasn’t as inexpressive as before and I wondered who had changed him. Could he have a girlfriend? Was he… married?

Somehow, even after all that time, my heart sank as I imagined Sasuke in the arms of someone else. We walked in silence to the Uchiha compound and I stared in (hidden) shock at what was once a deserted area. Kids were running in the street, adults casually making small talk on doorsteps. The houses had been restored. But what was more of a surprise for me was that I recognized every person on that street except the kids.

Sakura was talking with Ino in front of a flower shop. Shikamaru was lying on a bench watching the sky while a little boy was sleeping on his stomach. Neiji was talking to Kiba, Hinata and Tenten, while eyeing Ino from the corner of his eye.

When Sakura saw Sasuke she ran to us. I let Sasuke walk ahead of me and waited so they could speak alone. I didn’t want to intrude. Okay, that was a lie. I didn’t want them to know I was hearing their conversation. I was curious of the way things had evolved between them.

“Hey Sasuke-san! How was your mission? You only came back this morning right? There’s a dinner at Choji’s restaurant tomorrow night, every one will be there, you have to come!”

I rolled my eyes. Some things never change. Sakura was still asking the bastard out. And I bet that like usual he would refuse…

“If my *guest* is gone by then, I will.” WHAT?

“Your… who is he?”

“Red Angel” I heard Sasuke grunt.

“What?! He came! Ahhhh! If he is still there tomorrow you could bring him along! This is so exciting, I can’t wait to tell Sai about this!”

Sai? What was he to do with anything?

“He’s back from his mission?”

“Yes he came back home yesterday afternoon.”

I saw Sasuke smirk. “Busy night?”

“Sasuke!” Sakura’s cheeks were a lovely shade of red. They were together?! Oh god, what more did I miss?

“I have to get going. My *guest* is waiting.”

“Oh sorry, we’ll chat later then. And Sasuke… he looks hot. Go for it!”

“Sakura….”

“Sorry. But you can’t wait on *him* eternally you know. You deserve happiness too. Bye bye.”

To my surprise she kissed him goodbye (on the cheeks!) and he let her, a small smile gracing his features. I was beginning to feel lost. How could 5 years change people so much? And they all seemed so happy. I guess it was a good thing I left, if this was the result.

*Sasuke's pov*

I lied on my bed and took a deep relaxing breath. It had been a long day. That Red guy was so infuriating! First he looks down at me when he is only a little longer than me, then he makes me loose face in front of the Hokage. He was more than a little confusing to me. I felt attracted to him, and it scared me. The only person I had ever been attracted to before was Naruto. This ninja… he was so different from the Naruto I had known. But at the same time he reminded me of Naruto so much. But not the Naruto every one knew. The Naruto I only saw in bed. The frail, sad but passionate and loving Naruto.

What the hell was I thinking?! Naruto, frail?!

And this Red, his eyes… red and blue… just like when Naruto was so angry that kyuubi… Wait a minute. It was the exact same colors. Why could I only see it with the sharingan?
And why did that guy wear this huge cloak? Was he hidding his body or his identity?

I felt my mind freeze. Then start again reeling. Oh my god, that was not possible! The ridiculously huge amount of chakra. The familiar way Tsunade had addressed him and he had answered back. It was all making sense now… The attraction I felt for him… When Tsunade had called him Nahred, she had in fact started to call him Naruto and stopped in the middle to call him Red.

I bolted out of my bed and ran to the guest room. Naruto! It was Naruto!
