"Fucking Sasuke!" Sai spat out, surprised at his own calm facade breaking way to an angry retort.

He felt his anger swelling, as though at any moment he might burst, but a knocking at his door caught his attention.

Sai turned and faced the door, making his way from the balcony, through the room, and too the door on the other end of the room.

"Who is it?" Sai called out.

"Naruto..."

Sai stopped his approach. Naruto. Was he here to return some of Sasuke's belongings. Oh wait, that's right, he wasn't Sasuke, he was Sai, not some replacement for a deserter asshole.


"What do you want Naruto?" His calm facade had resurfaced. Untouchable.

"I want to apologize..." He heard genuine hurt in the kyubi's voice.

Sai sighed and decided to humor him. He opened the door and welcomed the maverick ninja in. "What do you want to apologize for?" Sai asked, surprised at his own ability to prevent sarcasm from poisoning his voice.

"Look...I...I loved Sasuke...still do I guess...but I d-don't want you to feel used." Naruto's eyes were fixated upon his own shuffling feet. "I didn't use you...it's just...you and Sasuke...I dunno, fuck! Why do my black haired team mates have to be beautiful!?"

Sai presented his fake smile to Naruto, which may have hurt the other more than a scathing look would have. "Oh Naruto, that was nothing..."

The words pierced the blonde's heart.

"Put it out of your mind." Sai quickly turned his back to Naruto, biting his lip and hoping the idiot ninja would leave soon.

No such luck. Warm arms embraced him from the back, taking the silky-black haired ninja off guard. "I'm sorry, I...I want to make it up to you..."

"Through sex?"

"No. I want to take you out too see a movie."

Movies. Sai had to admit, it was a good offer. Sai had always wanted to see a movie, his days of confined training had never allotted the time.

"Don't do this..." He finally uttered.

Naruto looked over the black haired one's shoulder, looking as best he could into the others mahogany eyes.

"...don't feel obligated to me. Don't do this to ease your guilty conscious..."

Naruto grinned wolfishly, grabbing the others ass in his hands. The surprise stunned Sai from the mask he'd put on.

"I'm not doing this because I feel guilty..." Naruto said in his usual comedic tone, grabbing Sai by the hand and guiding him to the door.

"I'm doing this...because we're friends...and I...nothing..." Sai could only watch quietly as Naruto dragged him out of the apartment.

Sai watched as the princess of the movie went on and on about something called a "rainbow chakra." Was this what movies were? He read that they were so much better. His gaze turned itself to the blonde fox-child sitting at his right, drinking soda and eating popcorn, eyes glued to the screen. Was he enjoying the movie? But it was so terrible.

Sai reached over to grab some popcorn from the maverick ninjas tub, but his hand inadvertantly missed and landed onto the blonde's lap.

A deep shade of red crossed his face, Naruto glancing up in complete surprise. Sai pulled his hand away, mind flooded by the images of earlier in the day.

Not again, Sai! His mind screamed. Not again!

As the movie came to it's end, an event Sai could only describe as salvation, he and Naruto made there way from the theatre. There was a silence between them, both too proud to start a conversation. But when the solitude of the alley way came, the normally boistrous ninja found his words.

"I...I had a good time." Naruto began, blue eyes watching the ground, as though unsafe.

"Yeah."

"Sai...I don't want you too replace Sasuke...but I...I want to move on..." Naruto began, covering Sai's elegant hand with his own. "I don't know, when I'm with you, it's like when I'm with Sasuke only...different. I guess that's why I got confused earlier."

"I love you, you fucking idiot!"

A silence stirred between the two, Sai's words seemingly frightened off any other words, or any other signs of life. Hell, germs may not have even lived in the alley way at this point.

"Sai...I..."

"It's okay...look, I don't care if you love me back. Doesn't hurt my feelings any." A damnable lie. "Thanks for taking me out to the movies. See you in training tommorow."

Sai tried to make a quick jump, tried to get out of the alley way as quickly and quietly as possible, but Naruto's powerful grip held him firm.

"Naruto..." Sai pushed the blonde away from him. "I can't...I can't make you stop loving Sasuke...but...don't confuse me with him. Don't make me feel like...like I'm less than he is..." Looking into the blonde ninja's eyes, Sai felt himself falling further into the endless pit. "But..I want to try..."

Naruto smiled, his usual cocky smile replaced by a warm smile. "Alright...let's try..."

Sai sighed and took Naruto's hand as he led the ebony haired boy back to his home.
