Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke: Together Again.
Hey again. Let’s cut to it, shall we?

Chapter Two: Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke: Together Again
He was older now, but his face had definitely remained the same. His blond hair was longer than he had kept it as a child, but his blue eyes definitely twinkled with the same light and defiance that she remembered being his dominant quality. He stood to greet her, grinning and holding out his hand. But when she took it in hers, he enveloped her in a bear hug – which he could do now that he was a good deal taller than she.
“Wow,” she murmured, looking him over and brushing a stray strand of pink hair back behind her left ear. “Naruto! You look…”
“Old?” he asked her.
She smiled, letting her shoulders sag a little in defeat. “Yea,” she laughed, giving him a warm, friendly look. She looked around the bar. “Where is he?” she asked.
“You mean me?”
She turned, gasping. “Oh, Sasuke,” she whispered sadly.
He smiled at her, his eyes glistening with delight at her shocked reaction. He reached up and lightly touched the scar that ran across his face. “Oh, this? It’s nothing.”
“’Nothing,’ my ass!” Naruto cried out behind Sakura. “Effin’ Orochimaru. I swear, I’d beat his ass into the ground if he ever showed his face around here again!”
“What do you mean, Orochimaru did this to you?” Sakura asked Sasuke, gesturing to his wound. “I mean, you left him, didn’t you?”
He shrugged. “Yea… pretty much.”
“He went right back to him after you left, Sakura,” Naruto filled in.
“What!”
“Hey,” Sasuke said, shrugging and closing his eyes, still grinning at her sheepishly. “I’m only human. I had to kill Itachi somehow, and, since I didn’t have it in me to kill ole Naruto here, it seemed Orochimaru was the only option left.”
“Sasuke…” Sakura looked down at the ground.
“Yea, but, hey! Look at you! You’re a big, bad ninja now, and of not one but five villages!” Sasuke beamed at her proudly.
Sakura smiled up at him. These two were like her brothers now, and they were back together. “Kakashi-sensei’s favorite team – together again.”
“At least we’re not all rookies anymore!” Naruto chimed, raising his fist in the air with Sakura. They looked at Sasuke expectantly. He sighed, rolling his eyes, and he thrust his own fist with theirs. “Whatever. You guys are still so lame.”
“Believe it!” (A/N: OMG! Thank God they got rid of that on the American versions of the anime! We couldn’t STAND it!)
They laughed.

Ino looked up at the door when she heard it open and close. Sasuke barely looked up at her as he passed the kitchen.
“Sasuke?” She followed him into the bedroom, careful to be quiet. “Sasuke, where have you been? Tonight was your night to put Usa and Mamoru in bed!” (A/N: Yes, Sailor Moon fans, I KNOW those two names belong to the Japanese versions of Sailor Moon – Usagi/Serena – and Tuxedo Mask – Mamoru/Darien. Please, take into consideration my lack of sleep and knowledge of Japanese names. Thank you)
He shook his head. “I’m so sorry, Ino-chan,” he told her as she sat down next to him on their bed. “Tonight was the first night Naruto and I have seen Sakura in a long time, and we had a few drinks –”
“Sakura!” Ino jumped off the bed and stood, facing Sasuke with her hands on her hips and her head cocked to one side. “Tell me, PLEASE, Sasuke, that you did not sleep with Sakura!”
He smiled gently, as drunk men do, and took her small, pale hand in his. “My wife,” he murmured, stroking her knuckles softly, “I can assure you, with complete and total confidence in my words, that I love you, and I did nothing of the sort with Sakura tonight. We are friends. That is all.”
She still looked doubtful.
He stood and held her close. “You are the mother of my children, and you have been my wife for almost eight years now. You cannot be replaced in my heart – especially not by Sakura, who has been gone ten years. Sakura was not the one to accept my marriage proposal; Sakura was not the woman to bear my daughter and son. You were that woman.” He straightened up to look down into her eyes. “I could not replace you if I wanted to.”
Ino fell into his arms. “Oh, Sasuke.”

Sakura looked around the bar. She was only a little buzzed, even though she had drunk more sake than Naruto and Sasuke put together, and she was now puzzling over where her old flame had disappeared to.
“He went home,” Naruto answered her unasked question. She looked at him. “To his wife and kids,” the knucklehead pressed on.
His words stabbed Sakura in the heart. “Who did he marry?”
Naruto watched his friend warily. “Ino.”
Sakura’s breath caught. She stared down at her drink. “W-when?” she stammered, afraid to ask the question.
“Bordering eight years ago,” he answered, for he was too tipsy to keep his mouth shut. “They started courting pretty much the day after you left.”
“I lost,” she mumbled after a moment's hesitation.
Naruto squinted at her, puzzled. He leaned closer to her. “What was that?”
Sakura, now in tears, threw her drink at the wall. It smashed to pieces. “I lost!” she shrieked. “In my obsession to become so much better than Ino, I left the one thing that I really wanted for myself! And she came and snatched him up!” She suddenly collapsed on the wooden floor of the bar, unconscious.
Naruto stared down at her, then blinked and finished his cup of sake. “Women,” he muttered. “They just can’t hold their sake.”

A/N: Okay, Sak/Sas fans, I know all this looks a little grim, but it’ll get better, I PROMISE! But, hey, this is only my first plot twist of MANY… Hehehe…

Sneak Peak:
Chapter Three: Rules of the Competition: Ino and Sakura Face Off Once Again
They glared at each other. The fight was on, and neither wanted to give up. They had been in this exact same place more than ten years ago, and here they were again. The fight was over before it started; it had been over for eight years, as far as they were concerned. But Sakura wasn’t ready to give up fighting.
She came running, but she wasn’t quick enough; her opponent socked her in the face, knocking her down. The pink-haired ninja of five villages looked down on her.
“Payback,” she started, spitting on the ground, “thy name is Sakura.”
